Increase in SPAM web form submissions

Hi,
I'm noticing a trend of increased SPAM web form submissions across most of our BC sites. This has got particularly bad in the past week or so. All SPAM submissions follow a very similar theme. The text is complete 'gobbledygook' basically! The forms being used don't have any description fields where long descriptions or links can be entered so I struggle to see why this is happening.
What I want to know is:
- is this something other BC partners are noticing, particularly recently
- are your SPAM submissions similar to what I have shown below
- what can we do to reduce these other than using CAPTCHA on all forms?
- we exclusively use BC but I would be interested to know if the BC platform is particularly bad for SPAM submissions or is this something all sites are suffering from nowadays?
- any other light you could shed on this issue or advice you could impart would be much appreciated

We are experiencing a high volume of spam since changing our web forms on our newly redesigned site. The objective of the site design was to make it quick and easy for clients to get a quick quote thus asking for only a few fields to be completed. Adding a captcha form would actually detract from the purpose of the form.
We have implemented the honey pot field which seems to have made little to no difference in volume (this seems to be the case for this fix across many other users of BC). The problem is with our spam is quite unusual whereby we are not getting any specific info from them really making it hard to detect if it is spam or real. See example;

Why will my web form submit but my fillable form not submit with the same data in both?

i have developed a form in formscentral. When I trest it as a web form, it submits all the data to my attached fromscentral response form. I copy and paste the same data into tjhe fillable pdf form I generate from the distribute forms option with a submit buttion, and the form will not submit. It gives an "unable to connect to server" error.
When I try an empty form. it will submit. When I delete data from text fields. I will eventually reach a pint where the form will submit.
Is there a file size limit on the fillable pdf for submission to the formscentral response form?

Sorry for not being clear.
There is a system limit of 10000 characters in a multiline text field. Say you designed a form where a multiline text field has a limit of 20 characters. The following text will submit without error in the HTML form but will fail in the PDF form:

In the HTML form there is a total of 20 characters in the field value, 19 digits and a linefeed character representing the newline. In the PDF form there is a total of 21 characters in the field value, 19 digits, a carriage return, and a linefeed.

Web form submit to external email address

I am trying to submit web form to email on external email server.
I have followed the following: however - I get email message as the Administrator that this email address does not exist in the system. Is it even possible to route to external email server?? Am I missing something?

Note: The email address that will be receiving the form submission must exist in either your sites CRM (customer database) or be a admin/email user of the site.
If the email address being used to receive these form submissions does not exist as a site user or in the CRM, then the email will not be sent. A notification will be sent to the partner of the site advising them of this requirement.
&Subject=This+is+email+subject - The subject of the email. Make sure you separate each word in the subject with the + (plus) sign.
&EmailFrom=[email protected] - The from email address. Replace [email protected] with the email address you want to use for the submission.
&PageID=/DestinationPage.html - The URL of the landing page presented to the visitor after the web form has been submitted.

Web form spam continued . . .

HI, I have tried adding a hidden field to my web form to help reduce spam. I am not sure what I tried will work and do I need to and how do I add some code to specify do not process form if this field is filled in?

I cannot see how anything you've said or done so far will help reduce web-form spam. Assuming you wish to prevent someone from maliciously submitting a form 10000 times to your site, then you have to use a CAPTCHA.
There is no easy, 1-2-3 way to add CAPTCHA to your application. However, some ways are easier than others. I would recommend Raymond Camden's Quick and dirty CAPTCHA Guide - for ColdFusion 8. It uses Coldfusion 8's in-built CAPTCHA functionality, and is relatively easy to adopt.

Web form spam

Hi I am a novice CF dude. I have a web registration form that gets bogus registrations and I am trying get my users to type in a word to help limit spam. I am not sure how to do this and google and the forums do not show any cf examples.
I have tried various versions of the following

Add logic to Submit button in web form

We have created a form from scratch in FormsCentral. It has a fair bit of logic associated with questions in the application form.
Some of the logic leads to the end result that an applicant should not be able to submit the form.
The issue is, that as a web form - no matter how much logic we put up front to determine whether the applicant should continue flling out the form OR whether they can or cannot submit a form - the only option to get them out of the form (apart from Warning text "you cannot complete this submission online, please contact our call centre'.. sort of thing OR hoping that they press back on their browser OR click on another page in the website) is the appearance of the action buttons BACK and SUBMIT buttons.
This results in a partially filled out response appearing in the response table and/or the email notification etc.. causing extra work for receiver - as they need to ensure teh applicant is aware that the form submission does not constitue a successful submission.
Any options for us here in FormsCentral? (can we apply logic to the Submit button to Not Submit?)
(or is it only something that can be solved through scripting logic into buttons on an Acrobat form?)

In a web form it is not possible as you found with skip logic, and there isn't a way I can think to accomplish that.
In PDF you could edit the script on the submit button - very carefully so as not to break submit when the form has been filled out correctly, and test it well after editing. Here is some information on editing a FormsCentral PDF: http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-3661

I'm trying to modify the appearance of the search box, the search button, and the submit button for web forms by modifying the CSS on Stylesheets. None of the tags I'm using (e.g. .webform .cat_button) seem to be working. What are the correct tags for those three elements?

InfoPath web forms from sharepoint 365 submission - question about copying senders on submit

I have set up a few InfoPath web forms. I tested including an email field when the submit is processed it will also send a copy to the email address entered in that field. I am just seeing if there are any options available for the user to
be able to open the file after the attachment is saved from the email if they don't have InfoPath on their machine? any way for them to save as a word doc, pdf etc?

As I understand, you want to know the attachment sent with the InfoPath form email can be saved as other file types.
The attachment sent with the InfoPath form email will stored as XML files.
If there is no InfoPath installed, we can export the XML data to Excel, Access or PDF.

Outlook pops out on form submit

I am making a form on Dreamweaver CC and I want to integrate that form in a Muse website and when I click submit, a window from Outlook pops out to send an e-mail to the recieptient e-mail.
I already read here but I don't know if I can integrate a PHP script with Adobe Muse files on my server. Would they enter in conflict or that's fine?

Mailto: links on form submit are not reliable for several reasons.
Most web mail users do not have Outlook or similar e-mail clients installed on their system. When they click your submit button, nothing will happen.
Mailto: links do not hide your e-mail address from harvesters and spam bots.
Your form is not secure from spam bots and hackers.
AFAIK, Muse does not support server-side scripting. But that shouldn't preclude you from using a contact form with a separate form-to-email processing script. You point your HTML form to the script using the action attribute.

Which script depends on your server. Ask your hosting provider if they have scripts you can use. If they don't, find out which server-side languages your hosting plan supports -- php, asp.net, coldfusion, perl, etc...
This will narrow your search form appropriate scripts you can use.

Hi Dave Blubaugh,
To expand further on what I mentioned in my previous post; when a web form is created within the admin console, the 'Anti-bot Fraud Protection' module is now included by default. This module is not used to verify Credit Cards - what this module does is create a hidden input field (i.e. a honeypot) for that form. Therefore, if this hidden field is populated, an error will be returned. This is due to the fact that spam bots usually populate all fields as sometimes they cannot differentiate between whether a field is hidden or not - it is used as a preventive measure to reduce spam.
Now the confusion here is that the error returned is “ERROR: An error occurred while processing credit card”. This is because the feature was originally introduced for the online shop. As mentioned in my previous post, there is a bug logged where we have requested to update this error message to something more generic as this module is now used across all web forms. I suspect this update will be rolled out with our next release, however at the moment this is not something I can guarantee.
There have also been reports of this error being triggered randomly, yet this is not something we can replicate. Please note that if you use a tool to auto-populate the web form’s fields, this will populate the hidden ‘honeypot’ field causing the error to be thrown. If you do believe that the error message is being thrown incorrectly, I will need you to submit a case directly to support so we can investigate this.

To answer your questions directly, yes, the 'Anti-bot Fraud Protection' module does render the {module_ccsecurity} module tag. When the form is viewed live, that module tag then renders the ‘honeypot’ field.
The module tag {module_error} itself cannot be modified. But you can modify the layout this tag resides in as well as the template assigned to this layout. Therefore, effectively you can assign a different template to this layout that does not include the breadcrumbs module. You can modify this layout via Site Manager > System Pages > General.

Is it possible to see who has saved progress on a web form, but not submitted?

We are using FormsCentral for our application process, and we are allowing applicants to save forms. Is it possible to see who has started a web form, and saved it, but hasn't submitted yet? Maybe by cc'ing the email notificiation they get to an admin?
We'd like to see who is working on the applications, and also to send them a reminder that they need to complete and submit the form by the deadline.

How do I use the vector web forms??

I'm new to using vector graphics and need to know how to go about using these web forms using Illistrator to make it functional on a web site. I tried opening it with the Illustrator, Fireworks, but not sure how to get the white fields to actually work like a text field. Hotpot will only link to another page which I don't want. I want the user to be able to enter their email address or whatever info is required then be able to submit. Please help!

That graphic is for making a wireframe/design. It cannot offer any real form functionality.
To create a form with that appearance, you will need to wrestle with HTML, CSS, and your choice of scripting languages to process the input.
