Increase shared memory by IGD (intel HD)
when will the shared memory for intel HD graphics processor can be increase more than 256MB? some motherboard with some brand can assign until 1GB of RAM to the integrated graphic. future BIOS development should focus on this matter.
thank you

Quote from: azuan on 07-October-13, 10:32:54
the reason i asked is because the 'manual allocation' in the bios menu only limited to 256MB only.
The BIOS has no control over the video memory.
That 64/128/256 MB value is a legacy and it means the reserved system RAM for GPU.
Most of the GPUs don't need more than 64MB to operate properly.
But it's better to give them 128 or 256MB.
Why?
The "plug & play" (automatic allocation) mechanism was never a perfect one.
Two devices sharing the same I/O addressing space might lead to conflicts and system crashes.
You don't want another device to share system RAM with your GPU.
For this reason it's much better to "lock" that RAM area and to reserve it for the GPU.
Coming back to video memory, that will be allocated much later (after the OS is loaded) by the GPU.
Intel Dynamic Video Memory Technology is used for that.
Depending on the GPU, installed system RAM and application demand, up to 1.7 GB system RAM can be reserved as video memory.
Edited:
http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-029090.htm
Up to 1.7GB usable video memory for HD 2000, 3000, 4000 and 4600 (all the Gen 2/Gen 3/Gen 4 Intel processors).

I need to increase shared memory. In 10.10 is use /etc/sysctl.conf with a line kern.sysv.shmmax=16777216 and this works. Also in 10.9. But in 10.10.1 shared memory can no longer be increased from the default 4194304 by this means.
The question is simple: how in 10.10.1 does one increase kern.sysv.shmmax in a way that survives a re-bootI have the same problem on my windows 2003 server but the
thing is that I have not been able to get the same error on any
other machine including a windows 2003 I installed on VMWare on the
same machine. I have narrowed down to where in the encoder this
happens. The encoder uses page file backed file maps to register
session information. The call to MapViewOfFileEx method of the
Win32 API fails with the "access denied" error. Whatever it is,
it's due to some defect in the Windows installation I have because
I do not get that message on any other windows installation even
the ones I do with the same windows CD !
I am still trying to find out what the defect might be but I
thought you should know it's got nothing to do with you Windows
make and model...it happens for me on 2k3 and for you on XP...so
you should looke elsewhere.. -
I've not found the option to increase shared memory of intel hd graphics card in BIOS
Hi! I don't find that option. I have the 2.08 version, but the 3.01 is out there. The graphics performance is not very well now. Is there a way to increase this memory to 256 mb or more? Thanks in advance
hi freinn,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
This is on Auto by default.
The amount of memory shared to your graphics is dependent on how much RAM you have. Also even if you max out the RAM capacity there will no big jump on the shared memory just few MBs will be added
The Manual is not available even if there is an updated BIOS.
Even if a Manual option is available still you can only share the same maximum as the one on Auto. Not a big jump.
i hate to say it but that's how it will be
Hope this helps
Cheers!

XP Pro shared memory size of Intel GM45 on L305-S5905
The laptop's Vista Home Premium was recently replaced with XP SP3.
All is well, with one smaller (1GB) issue.
I am fairly certain (not 100%) i had changed the shared memory in Vista to 128MB (i only do basic 2D desktop stuff, nothing that would need more memory), however in XP all i can see is in Video settings is on Adapter tab it shows 1024MB for the graphics card, which would explain why the XP booting with Physical Address Extension only shows 2.87GB free out of the 4GB total.
Does anyone know where intel is hiding the ability to change the shared memory size, i don't seem to get nowhere with googling around for it. I would certainly rather have the memory available for applications than waste it on doing nothing.
I am looking at the intel driver since there is no option to set memory size in BIOS either.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Danielwindows xp are seeing only 3 G of Ram memory...vista can see a lot more of ram ....i intal window Xp on my laptop and have the same probleme...a instal vista ultimatum end now i can use all the memery...i search a lot of forum and the sead theat xp cand see up to 4 G of ram...but it's nat true......and the video driver is configuretet to use 1760MB the maximum video card memory...i'm looking for a program to change the memoory of the video card..but tiil now i didn'f find anyfing...

Hi,
In Oracle Linux 6.3, I have changed my default /dev/shm using
mount -t tmpfs shmfs -o size=3g /dev/shm
And this worked. However I am trying to make the change permanent so I have changed my /etc/fstab entry to be
tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs size=3g 0 0
However this has not worked. When I reboot my server /dev/shm returns to its original value
Any ideas of how to make the change persist ?
thanks,
JimI cannot say what you are trying to accomplish is reasonable, but to the following may solve your problem with the fixed size of POSIX shared memory.

how will i increase the shared memory of the graphic card of macbook pro 13-inch, early 2011 from 4gb memory?
The current version of Mavericks is 10.9.4. To update yours download and install OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo).
You can upgrade RAM to the maximum your model will support. That would be:
Maximum Memory
16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)
Memory Slots
2 - 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
About OS X Memory Management and Usage
Using Activity Monitor to read System Memory & determine how much RAM is used
OS X Mavericks- About Activity Monitor
Adding RAM only makes it possible to run more programs concurrently. It doesn't speed up the computer nor make games run faster. What it can do is prevent the system from having to use disk-based VM when it runs out of RAM because you are trying to run too many applications concurrently or using applications that are extremely RAM dependent. It will improve the performance of applications that run mostly in RAM or when loading programs. -
Will increasing the memory from 4Gb to 8Gb make a big difference to the speed of my Intel Core Duo 2 Mac mini?
Well, technically no, CPU will remain the same speed. But having 8 gig will give you some room for memory hungry apps and run better with multiple apps.
Adding a SSD drive will give a second life to your macmini. I did mine a few weeks ago (240 gb SSD ) and also went from 2 to 4 gig ram. It's like having a new computer!
Good luck! -
Increasing shared VRAM on a GMA X3100
I have a white Macbook with the GMA X3100 graphics chipset (I think it is Santa Rosa). The system profiler says I have 144MB of VRAM. I have 2GB of RAM installed. My questing is, since the VRAM is shared memory from the system RAM, would I be able to get more shared VRAM to the GPU if I upgrade to 4GB? Or, even better, is there any way to allocate more of my current memory to share with the GPU? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
From http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3246:
GMA X3100
The GMA X3100 allocates a base amount of 144 MB for video and boot processes at startup. For example, a MacBook (Late 2007) with 1 GB of RAM installed has 880 MB of memory available to Mac OS X and applications (1024-144=880).
Products with the Intel GMA X3100 include:
* MacBook (Late 2007)
* MacBook (Early 2008)
* MacBook (Late 2008)
* MacBook Air (Early 2008)
Note: Depending on the application or task being accomplished, Mac OS X may make additional main memory available to the graphics processor for texture use beyond the base amount mentioned above. The most common types of applications that request more system memory to be used as graphics memory are 3D and graphics-intense applications. Using an extended desktop or mirrored desktop may also increase the amount of system memory used as graphics memory. For example, the GMA 950 would allocate 80 MB, resulting in 432 MB of available memory (512-80=432). Likewise, the GMA X3100 would allocate 160 MB, resulting in 864 MB of available memory (1024-160=864). -
Is, or, will there be any option to increase the amount of shared memory used for the graphics from 64 to 128?
Not right now
Even on intel web sites it clearly stated that intel GMA 950 can use up to 224 Mb of shared memory, apple lock it down to 64, because they shipped MacBook with only 512 Mb.
Even for 512 Mb installed, the MacBook and the OS is kinda have need for more memory, could you imagine if apple unlock it, there will be more issue posted in this forum regarding system freeze because unsufficient memory (50% used by graphic card).
Maybe they will release the unlock or third party programmer or intel will do, but use it with precaution that atleast 1 Gb is installed in your MacBook. -
G500 BIOS sucks Increase Shared Ram
System:
Lenovo G500
windows 8.1 64-bit
1TB
8GB ram
intel hd graphic 4000
SO heres the deal->
Intel Hd 4000 is capable of running new games with low specs. It does not have a dedicated video ram. But that can be done by increasing the shared memory from system ram in BIOS. Heres the sad part BIOS doesnt support this. Other manufacture like dell, hp , asus have given this option in BIOS to increase shared graphic memory from 64mb 128mb 256mb.
Lenovo please upgrade BIOSIntel HD Graphics are not meant to be game changers - It is good for business (Office Software) and streaming video (presentations), and watching movies (DVD, Netflix). Simple games - Mahjong, Card Games and similar software will run without issues, FPS and RPG and the like will suffer greatly not matter if you assign 256mb or 2gb of memory to it.
When Intel gets into the dedicated graphics cards it will be the same deal as they believe most notebook users are business people not gamers.
Either way you dish it up - go with a dedicated card for better game play. Even AMD's APU is better at gaming than Intel's HD line up.
Cheers. -
Disp+work stop because of shared memory?
Hello Gurus, I have an SAP server that will not start. It was running previously, but after a parameter update and an instance restart, I cannot get the dispatcher running.
System is Windows 2012 Server, MSSQL 2008 R2, 16 Core 132 GB RAM.
I believe it is related to shared memory overlapping somehow, but I am not sure how to resolve or investigate. I have had issues previously with memory overlap halting SAP servers with Diagnostics Agents, but this server is not currently running any DAA. It is running SAPRouter and some SAP Web Dispatcher instances.
I will include my trace files below:

I dont know if it is a good thing i copy an init.ora file to initCHUCKY.ora and now database is using it I have just changed some values in it like control files dbname ... that were pointing to another database maybe this is why i dont manage to get this database runing.
Now i am stucked I dunno what to do
racle@debian:~$ tnsping chucky

/home/oracle/u01/app/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/network/admin/sqlnet.ora
Used TNSNAMES adapter to resolve the alias
Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = debian)(PORT = 1521))) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED) (SERVICE_NAME = CHUCKY)) (HS = OK))
OK (0 msec)
I am so new to it as i understand the listener is working if i beliave what reports tnsping
As I understand the database is started
SQL> startup
ORACLE instance started.

Variable Size 62916852 bytes

Database mounted.
Database opened.
As Inunderstand it is listeneing on 1521
netstat -anp | grep 1521

unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 43990 11521/su
I made a tcpdump i saw the data is comong on localhost port 1521
Synthese I think the listener is runing, the database too, it is making a listen on 1521 port , when I try to connect data arrives on the right interface.
But I can't login by
sqlplus scott/tiger@CHUCKY
qlplus SCOTT/tiger@CHUCKY

I dunno what is this fuckin shared memoryThis fuckin shared memory is how oracle does interprocess communication. When you connect to Oracle, you have to connect to this area. If you tell it the wrong area, it won't find it. You can see the areas with the ipcs command on the server. Since you can connect locally, but can't connect remotely, there is something wrong with how you told Oracle to connect remotely. Remotely can be on the same host if you have an @ in the connect string.

env | grep ORACLE
ORACLE_SID=CHUCKY
ORACLE_BASE=/home/oracle
ORACLE_HOME=/home/oracle/u01/app/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/
seems like my variables are good.
Well I dunno what to do I didn't think getting a simple login locally over tcp/ip would be so difficult, I am afraid of what will happen after this will work :) As it should be one of the easiest things on oracle what about the hardest :)Well, first try removing the trailing slash from ORACLE_HOME everywhere, including if you have it in the listener.ora. Then compare the tnsnames.ora ORACLE_HOME with your environment ORACLE_HOME. In fact, if you have a listener.ora, try renaming it to something else and restarting the listener.
That error is normally due to a bad ORACLE_HOME or ORACLE_SID. Since your tnsping works, that indicates the ORACLE_HOME is good. But all that tells you is that the listener responds. Other causes may be inadequate processes in init.ora or case issues with the sid, or just generally not following the installation instructions. But are there installation instructions for debian?
With multiple databases on one host, some kernel parameters may need to be increased. -
Is XML Publisher causing shared memory problem..?
Hi Experts,
Since this week, many of the Requisition/PO are erroring out with the below errors or similar to these errors:
- ORA-04031: unable to allocate 15504 bytes of shared memorny ("sharedpool","PO_REQAPPROVAL_INIT1APPS","PL/SQL MPCODE","BAMIMA: Bam Buffer")
ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called.
-Error Name WFENG_COMMIT_INSIDE
3146: Commit happened in activity/function
'CREATE_AND_APPROVE_DOC:LAUNCH_PO_APPROVAL/PO_AUTOCREATE_DOC.LAUNCH_PO_APPROVAL'
Process Error: ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called
Few days back we were getting heap memory error for one of the XML Publisher report.
I heard that XML Publisher requires lot of memory for sources/features,So I want to know whether XML Publisher can be one of the cause for memory problem to occur or this shared memory is not related with XML Publisher sources at all.
Please advice.
Many thanks..
Suman
Edited by: suman.g on 25-Nov-2009 04:03Hi Robert,
Thanks for your quick reply...
Apps version: 11.5.10.2
database version: 9.2.0.8.0
As I am a beginner in this so dont know much about this.. Can you please guide me on this.
DBAs has increased the shared memory and problem has resolved but here I am more concrened whether the XML Publisher was or can be one od the cause for shared memory problem. Is there any way to check that or this occurs randomly and we can not check this.
Please advice something.
