Increase sound volume above 150% without loosing synchronization

I would like to increase the sound volume substantially above 150%. There have been some suggestions to this topic (extract sound and work with sound studio or audacity).
When I do this I loose synchronization of audio and video. Does anyone know a way to increase sound substantially without loosing synchronization?

It doesn't necessarily produce any distortion ..it all depends on how loud - or quiet - the sound was to start with.
In Audacity & Sound Studio you can see if there's going to be any distortion as you raise the sound level: if the tops & bottoms of the visible waveform get chopped off ("clipped", in techno-speak) as the waveform grows larger, then you'll hear distortion.
If there's no clipping, and the waveforms keep their original shape - but just become larger - then there'll be no distortion ..bigger doesn't necessarily mean distorted, unmanageable or unbearable.
It's not necessarily VERY LOUD EITHER! ..If the original audio was just the hum of air through a swan's wings as it flew by, that might be almost inaudible on your sound track. By raising the audio level, say, 500% it may become noticeable.
That'd also raise the level of everything else by 500%, too, but if it was a still day, that might be just a slight background hiss. You could filter out the general hiss, and just leave the thrum of the swan flying by..
In this bit of audio..
..raising the levels by 500% would certainly distort (by clipping; chopping off the edges) the loudest regions, but the quietest sections are unlikely to become distorted.
If all the sound is as low as the quiet sections above, then there's unlikely to be any distortion after boosting it.

  • Increasing sound volume with amixer

    Hi,
I know, I can set the sound volume with something like this:
    > amixer set Master 10
But is it also possible to relattivly set the sound? Can I somehow in example increase the volume by 10%?
I want to set keyboard shortcuts for turning volume up and down!
    Thanks!
    Nathan

    Read "man amixer":
    set or sset <SCONTROL> <PARAMETER> ...
Sets the simple mixer control contents. The parameter can be the
volume either as a percentage from 0% to 100% with %  suffix,  a
dB  gain  with  dB  suffix  (like -12.5dB), or an exact hardware
value.  The dB gain can be used only for the mixer elements with
available  dB  information.   When plus(+) or minus(-) letter is
appended after volume value, the volume is incremented or decre-
mented from the current value, respectively.
For keyboard shortcuts, use e.g. xbindkeys or xhotkeys or keytouch.

  • Increasing sound volume for entire iTunes library

Hey peeps, this might sound like a stupid question to ask, but here goes...
I regularly amend the volume of individual albums by selecting all the desired songs in iTunes and turning the sound volume up in Options.
I want to amend the sound limit of every single song in my iTunes library to +100%. Is there an easy way to do this without cmd+ clicking each song? I have over 12,000 songs. I want to know if there is anyway this can be done in Preferences, or if there is a way to scroll and select songs quickly!
Many thanks to anyone with any ideas!

Click on the first song in your library to highlight it then go to Edit>Select All. Right click on the selection and choose Get Info to access the Options tab for the whole selection.

  • N95 8GB: Increase sound volume by steps of 1

    Hi,
in a very silent environment it is not possible to listen to any kind of music on the N95, because a volume level of 10% is just to much. I would like to request the possibility to increase the volume level by steps of 1 instead of 10.
    Cheers,
    --videoschabe

    Sorry to hear that.
It was bound to happen sometime that someone was going to find a way to abuse the rating system.
EDIT: On the topic. One minor thing. The 20 step volume only works when headphones are connected, in speaker mode, bluetooth or others it's back to 10 step.

  • How to increase sound volume in symbian S60 9.1 ?

I have a problem, sound during calls on my mobile phone is low, even on MAX volume. It's ok in silent enviroment, but at street, coffee shop, bars, in some cases even when in car volume it just to low.
I have Nokia E61i and this didn't happen with my last cellphone (Nokia N73) so my conclusion is that volume can be tuned up somehow.
Is there any program to increase it or hack/patch of some kind?
I don't need to increase strength of EXTERNAL speeker, just one used for calls.
    Thank you for assistence.

Well recived my e61i today and the volume in the earpice is a dissapointment i mean its just enough meybe on the highest setting but that brings a distorted sound also i notice the sound is shallow ... did not expect that as i remeber my e61 (not an i model) had much better sound from the earpiece ...
recently lotsa nokias suffer this , 8800 scirocco was a disaster the new 6300 also now this one cmooon guys !

  • Increasing sound volume

My iMac is two months old and the volume settings are too low, although maxed out with F12 key. Being hard of hearing I wonder if there is a way of increasing volume without going to an external speaker. Is there a way to modify the hardware?

I think your best bet is to purchase a separate audio system that plugs into the audio output jack on your iMac. Some of these are relatively cheap and will provide a great deal more volume than the built-in system of the iMac. They are available at Apple stores or the big box stores such as Best Buy.

  • Why such sorry sound quality on iTunes? On some of my purchases the sound level is suppressed on the audio. On others the volume is so low that if I have it set for another song and a new one starts I have to increase the volume to hear it.

There is so much distortion on some of the music I have to play it with QuickTime to get a "clean" track.
What can be done to get a consistent volume level or is this another typical Apple product that you have to take what you get and be happy because it's not a Microsoft product?

If that's the best you can do why don't you get on another forum?

  • Sudden increase in sound volume.

This strange thing just started today.
All of sudden with nothing touching the keyboard the sound volume will increase to maximum!
This happens several times an hour with just FireFox opened and running.
I did a "repair disk permissions" and even tried a different Apple keyboard but it continues to occur.
    any suggestions?

Hi, apologies.. Ok..Sound Enhancer->Open iTunes->then go to Preferences->then go to Playback->then check Sound Enhancer.
Sound settings->System Preferences->Sounds->check the settings are to your requirements..
Have you Repaired Permissions..Applications->Utilities->Disk Utility->Highlite Main MacHD->ensure the First Aid box is highlited then click Repair Permissions..if repairs are listed rerun Repair Permissions.
SMC (system management control) -- Turn Off computer, unplug ALL peripherals except k/b & mouse,
disconnect power cable from power source..Then reconnect to power & reboot, I would once again Repair Permissions..if all is good Turn Off computer & reconnect your other peripherals, reboot....L

  • How can I increase the volume of my text alerts without increasing call volume??

The alerts that are pre-programed on my phone for text alerts are very quiet.  When I turn the volume up so that I can hear them then my call volume is embarrassingly loud.  I have tried to get new tones in the store but they all seem to download to my ringtone - not text tones.  I have even purchased (from the Verizon store) tones that are for texts, but again, they download into my call ringtones.  Any suggestions would be great since I am a big texter and am getting very frustrated because of missing so many.

        @Halon,
I know how you feel! Text messaging is my main means of communication so I use it all the time. I definitely don't want you missing any important text messages because you can't hear the alert.
Keep in mind that the volume level will increase or decrease the same for both calls and text alerts. You may notice that the ring tones options for the text messages are not as loud as the ones for calls. Unfortunately, there is no way to increase the volume for the text alerts without increasing the volume for the call alerts as well.
One thing you can try is turning in the Vibrate mode so the phone vibrates also when you receive a text messages. Visit http://vz.to/1aflRJ0 for steps.
Keep me posted if you need further assistance.

  • When watching movies on my iPad with headphones (they're Bose so good quality) on an airplane I can barely hear the sound with everything turned up--any suggestions to increase sound level outside of normal volume adjustments?  thanks for the help

When watching a movie on my iPad 2 with headphones (they're Bose so good quality) on a plane I can barely hear even with volume at highest level--any suggestions on how to increase sound level outside of normal settings-sound level even lower when using a splitter--thanks

Same problem with all headphones and earbuds--just checked settings and Volume Limit was already off--starting to think it's a volume system flaw tied to videos and related sound.   No problem getting plenty of sound volume for music, only videos.

  • Inadequate sound volume on MacBook

I may be expecting too much from my MacBook, but I'd like to be able to enjoy the music in my iTunes library without having to sit directly in front of it. I go to Apple button>System Preferences>Sound where I set the sound level for maximum, but that doesn't help as much as I would like. Is there another way to increase the sound volume? By the way, I had no such problem with my iMac, which I'm missing more and more.

A similar trick is in iTunes, Show Equalizer, click
pre-amp on and move the slider to max.
Though I would basically agree with JSwerdy's post
above. I do not find it necessary to use the
equalizer setting, and I find it necessary to
sometimes turn down the volume on occasional web
pages that play sound. I don't want high volume, low
quality sound. If I want to listen to music for long
periods, I use headphones or stream wirelessly to my
stereo, and there's no lack of signal quality at all
then. I did have the benefit of hands-on comparison
at an Apple Store before purchasing, and the speaker
sound volume/quality was an obvious difference
between the MacBook and MacBook Pro. Unless there are
    significant differences among individual MacBooks....
This is the first time that I've ever heard that there's a difference in the sound quality of a MacBook and a MacBook Pro. The salesmen said the main difference was the graphic stuff. They didn't even hint at a sound difference.

  • I have an alias of one of my external hard drives in my trash. When I click on "show original" all my external H D 's and my Mac hard drive show up. How do I delete this icon from the trash without loosing all my files?

I have an alias of one of my external hard drives in my trash. When I tried to delete it, it showed that I was deleting 80,000 files and counting. I stopped the delete process and when I clicked on "show original" all my external H.D.'s and my Mac hard drive show up. How do I delete this alias from the trash without loosing all my files? When I tried to drag it back to the desk top, it just made a duplicate and remained in the trash. When I turned off the external H.D., the trash was then empty. Tried rebooting the computer and then turning the external hard drive back on and the alias shows up in the trash again. Much help appreciated.
    Rich

In Finder's Menu, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes". (no quotes)
Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1 or 2 if there are no real files in them, and reboot.
    If it does contain data...

  • Whilst playing a selection from a CD I've put in my CD drive, I select Controls and then wish to increase the volume.  It tells me to Press Control and then Up.  Where is the Up button please ?  Thank you.

My question is how do I increase the volume when playing a CD in iTunes.  The volume slide is at full, but when I press Controls, it tells me to press Control and UP.  Where is the UP on my PC or is it on the screen ??
    Thank you.

It means the UP arrow on your keyboard. Depending on your keyboard, it is usually located on the right hand side of the keyboard, either with the numbers keys or below the Enter (Return) key.
However, Control/Up will simply attempt to move the slider in your iTunes programme further up. If the slider is already at the top, then those keys will have no effect, since the iTunes volume is already at maximum. Perhaps your computer's volume controls need adjusting.
In Windows XP, I believe (if I recall correctly) that the volume control is in Start/Accessories/ and either Volume or Mixer. In Windows 7, it's in Start/Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Adjust Sytem Volume.

Have you checked the volume button? It might be physically stuck. To determine whether a hardware repair is needed, you need to follow these steps:
    1. Try doing a hard reset:
Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/wake button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears.
After that: test the device to see whether the issue is solved.
    2. If the issue is not solved, you should backup the device and restore it as new.
    In that case, use: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup.
If the issue persists after restoring as new, you should offer the device for service.
If you get specific error messages/codes in iTunes when updating/restoring, check this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694 for causes and solutions
    Good luck
