Increase the wireless range of the TC ?

What is the best way to increase the range of our TC ?

1. Mount it high, away from walls, away from large metal objects and away from other RF sources.
2. Buy an Apple Express and extend it with that.

I bought the Airport Extreme because I thought it would increase the range of the WiFi signal in my house. I have a DSL modem (also Wifi) and there are parts of the house that do not seem to have a strong Wifi signal. The Airport Extreme does not seem to be increasing my Wifi signal strength? Any thoughts on what I could be doing wrong? I am able to connect to it, etc. Just thought the strength would be better.

The broadcast power of all wireless routers and devices is limited by law.....and all manufacturers run their routers full blast.....so the relative signal strength of wireless routers from one manufacturer to another will tend to be remarkably similar.....despite the fancy advertising claims.
You may want to consider adding another AirPort Extreme to "extend" the signal strength in your home. If you decide to do this, the "extending" Extreme would normally need to be located at a point that is approximately half the distance from your "main" AirPort Extreme and the general area that needs more wireless coverage.

  • Increasing the wifi range of time capsule

    Hello friends,
I have a 2 TB time capsule. Can I increse the wi fi range more. How can it be done.
    Best regards
    Mohan

The Transmit Power of the Time Capsule is already set at 100%.....which is the maximum power allowed by law.....so it is not possible to increase the power.
You might want to to take a look at an AirPort Express, or AirPort Extreme to repeat and "extend" the wireless network that the Time Capsule is broadcasting.

  • Equium A100: How can I increase the WLan range

    Hi,
I have an Equium A100 and wondered if I can increase the wi-fi range with any form of add on or accessory ??
I have to balance my notebook on the windowsill of my flat to pick up my nearest "hot spot".
    Any ideas ??
    Thanks.

    Hi
You can increase the WLan range and the performance but you will need an additional Wlan antenna.
For example like this [external Wireless USB Adapter|http://www.wirelessnetworkproducts.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1624]
On [this page |http://www.wirelessnetworkproducts.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=21 ] you can find also some tips and useful explanation about stronger WLan range:

Hi, I have a Powermac with Mavericks and a recently purchased iPhone 5S. I just  switched from Verizon with unlimited downloads to limited of 500mb per month, so I purchased a Powerlink Outdoor Plus which is supposed to increase the network range for over 1 mile. I am still getting the same distance range with my iPhone with the Verizon router. I was wondering if I need to make adjustments in the Network Settings. Does anyone know about this particular subject?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

Okay, I'll admit I don't know much about your configuration. A standard cellular package for a cellphone means you get your signal from a tower somewhere.  It won't have anything to do with a router which will be a WiFi connection from a router.  If you're talking about that, the Powerlink appears to be a directional antenna.  You should get better transmission/reception in the direction it is pointed, but likely worse in other directions than if you were using an omnidirectional antenna.  I presume you have it all hooked up correctly so the router is actually using the Powerlink antenna.
By the way, those distance ratings are always exaggerated.  Maybe you'd get 1 mile if there was only dry air between you and the antenna and no trees, buildings, etc., and that would probably be just barely getting a signal.  You should see improvement but don't go to a coffeeshop 1 mile away in a city and expect to see your router.  We have a directional antenna on the roof of our house that looks like a satellite dish and I barely pick up the wireless service node a block away (with apartment buildings in between).  Thre may also be a difference between using it to send a signal and receiving a signal.  You might even need two, one at each end, to get 1 mile.

  • RE1000 - Increase the range

I bought this extender to increase the range of my Linksys E3000. What a disappointment! The performance decreased with the extender: it dropped from 10+ Mbps to 1-2 Mbps. When I was close to my router than the extender, my laptop and all other wireless devices kept connecting to the extender instead of the router.

The RE1000 is meant to extend the range of an 802.11n network. While the device has the ability to extend the signal for a traditional 802.11g router, still it is not recommended. The reason for this is because the RE1000 is built to extend 2.4 Ghz 802.11n signals which use MIMO as well as other advanced technologies, if attempting to extend a G network you will not achieve the desired performance because it is not optimized to extend standard 802.11G signals.
Remember that the RE1000 will only extend the 2.4Ghz frequency. Meaning that if you have a router that is dualband you can only use an extender on the 2.4Ghz channel. The 5 Ghz channel does not currently have an Extender available for it. Since some dual band routers have the ability to select which frequency you want activated. Always make sure 2.4 Ghz is enabled if you are having troubles configuring.
When possible remember to use the Setup Utility and make sure the RE1000 is close to the router when first setting it up. The utility will test your network performance for you.
Remember to quickly get to the RE1000 after it has been setup, you can click on Computer > Network > then look in network infrastructure to see the RE1000. Double Clicking will launch the setup page.
Lastly and most importantly, remember that in order to get the best performance from an RE1000 you need to place the extender in an area where you still have at least 50% signal strength to your router when you place it in the final location where the RE1000 will be used. To configure the RE1000 you will need to login to the UI after you have put the RE1000 in the final location to verify the signal strength below is a reminder about signal bars and what they mean as a reminder
For ALL configurations you should have between 2-3 bars of signal at the very least. If you have less we will need to move the RE1000 closer to the router. You can also check the status on the status page of the RE1000 as well. On the status page it measures both Signal Strength and Signal Quality. If either set of bars is red you must move the RE1000 closer to the Router.

So I assume that the original modem stays installed with the coaxial cable and the Exrtreme is in addition to that.
    Yes, that is correct.
Did you have the instructions that came with your Airport Extreme?  Are you sure you have it setup properly?  Here is the setup guide:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/airportextreme_802.11n_userguide.pdf
Ensure you have everything setup properly.  Once you do this and if you are still having trouble, follow Star's instructions.

  • Is it Possible to Increase the Range of Bluetooth Peripherals?

Now that we have airplay on Mountain Lion I would really like to be able to use my mouse and keyboard at my TV which is about 25 ft away from the imac.
Is it possible using some sort of relay to increase the Blutooth range of my mouse and keyboard?
    Thanks.

    Hello:
The effective range of Bluetooth devices is about 30 feet (10 Meters).  That is affected by obstructions (walls, etc).
In answer to your question, I do not know of any way to increase the range.  By definition, Bluetooth devices are short range.

oh i already did that. Im working on my imac and looking into this on my macbook. Was able to reproduce the issue again by trying to open TM. Locked out the finder again and had to restart. I checked the serial number and it was an early 2009 purchase with no coverage.
If you bought a Mac and got AppleCare with it, within 2 years of buying the TC, the TC is covered, too.
I have to admit that this $500 unit was the first to apparently junk out. The western digital that had my main data on that is my daily external that I store about 2TB of data on is still perfect and the new technology TM appears to already be cashed. Love the computers, not to big of a fan on the externals of the apple TV's. No life expectancy. Neither here nor there.
suggestions before I either get this looked at or scrap the HD on it and move forward.?
Reset the TC. See [Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ|http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728].
Try a "full reset" of Time Machine, per #A4 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum).
If all else fails, take it to your local Apple Store or Authorized Repair location, they may be able to determine whether the disk is dead.
If it is, they might replace the TC for you. If not, they won't repair it, but if the electronics are ok, you can replace the HD yourself, if you want to. See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2542983

  • Can I run a cat5 cable to a 4 port hub from a cisco router then connect one of the hub's output ports to an airport express to 'extend' my wireless range?

Can I run a cat5 cable to a 4 port hub from a cisco router then connect one of the hub's output ports to an airport express to 'extend' my wireless range?
    Flow would be
Cable modem---->cisco e2000 wifi router (This is broadcasting wifi but not strong enough)---->4 port hub ---->airport express (to extend the wifi in another part of house)
    thanks!

Yes, you can do this as you stated. In essence you will want to configure both routers for roaming network. Please check out the following Apple Support article that describes this type of network. Although this article uses two or more AirPorts, it can be done with just about any manufacturer's router.

  • Increasing the date range in generic search

    Hello,
Is there an easy way to increase the date range in generic search to more than 1 year (the last year option in the dropdown)?
    Our release is ecommerce 7.

Check if the BAPI is able to give results for more than a year. If thats possible, add new select options to the jsp of the search view.

  • I want to increase the range of the current that my program can measure.

I have NI-DAQ 6024E and CB-68LP connector.I'm using pins 68 & 67 for input current that is to be measured. It somehow reads 20 mA when it's 200 and 30 mA when it's 300!! Also please tell me how can I increase the current range that can be read by this program and hardware as it currently reads upto 500 mA and I need to read upto 1 A.

Hi Mark, basically if I connect the terminals of my valve to ACH0 and ACH8,then it'll be a parallel connection. Here surely I'll get the voltage to read and i can divide by my resistance to calculate the current, but I dont want to do that. That is possible even with a regular calculator. Here I have a program that reads current directly but somehow I'm not able to read proper current. And my valve is a current controlled device so the more current I pass through it, more does it open. Now with the attached program,I want to know how to exactly wire my valve with the CB-68LP connector so that I can read the current. Please also suggest me how exactly to put the resistance in the circuit.
