Increased heating in a Short time after updating my GT60 0NC from Win7 to Win8

Hi
I recently updated my GT60 ONC to windows 8 x64 and have been using it for almost 3 weeks now. My laptop seems to get heated up without even using the Dedicated Nvidia Graphics. Previously when using Windows 7 x64, I never had this problem, but now i have to switch on the Cooler boost fan to reduce the temp.. not even sure of the normal fan is running..I am guessing this could be due to some driver issues.. But not sure.. I would be grateful and glad if some one could help me with this..

Solaris 10, amd64, JVM crash at short time after startup

Hi All,
I have an application which allocate 10G of memory for his Heap, run on 4 dual core amd64 CPUs, 16G RAM machine and crash in 98% of the cases at short time after startup. This is a customer machine.
I have a similar machine for tests with only 2 dual core amd64 CPU and 12G RAM and I don't experience any crashes running application with similar configuration, similar version of JDK and similar input data.
I have tried with different GC algorithms, but we obtain crashes sonner or later. I rare cases when application manage to start seems that CMS offer the greatest performance.
There is a bug in JVM? Knows anybody an workaround for this?

I created a small test which somehow emulate the real application and I obtain the same results: on test machine run without any issues on live machine it crashes all the time.
What can be the cause?

I've experienced the same crash problem for my application in a Sun Fire x4600 M2..
My application which allocates 50G of memory for his Heap, runs on 8 quad core amd64 CPUs, 64G RAM machine and crash in 98% of the cases at short time after startup.
If I run my application on a different machine, for example a Sun Fire 280R with 2 CPUs UltraSPARC-III+ 1.2Ghz 8MB, there are no crashes.
I think the problem is related to the AMD 64 bits CPU architecture.
I filed a bug to the Sun Bug DB with ID 1415527, but it hasn't been published yet.
I cannot understand why, since it seems to be a problem common also to other users.

If the RAM and HDD have been ruled out, then it is either a motherboard or CPU issue, and would require service to repair.

I RESOLVED THE ISSUE. I uninstalled the converter. Re installed after a cold boot.
The sites that would not load properly: I did a ixquick search of the titles that wouldn't download and found them at another location. They then downloaded perfectly. from the new location

First use JPanel not Panel.
Panel panels[]=new Panel[4];becomes
JPanel panels[]=new JPanel[4];Then refactor your code so that you use arrays correctly:
panels=new Panel();
panels.setLayout(new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.LEFT));becomes
panels=new JPanel();
panels[i].setLayout(new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.LEFT));
I did the above changes to your code and it worked fine.

Try re-adding your printer in System Preferences/Print & Fax. Not sure what type of printer you have, but if it was old and relying on an Appletalk connection, Snow Leopard dropped that support.

Choppy, distorted audio on Portege Z930 after updating from Win7 to Win8 64

Just wanted to share an info with you which cost me some time to work out, regarding the audio playback on a Portege Z930.
When I got my brand new Z930-14L, it was running Win7.
I tested everything like you do when you get a new machine and it all worked fine - including audio playback.
When I updated to Win8-64 from the CDs that came with the computer, still everything seemed to work fine and I had not changed any driver or setup.
However, after a couple of minutes, the audio playback detoriated. It got choppy, distorted, interrupted, stuttering and I was shocked.
Funnily, as soon as I turned my attention to the computer again, playback was OK again - though no screensaver had come up and no power save mode came up in such short time. I knew it was no hardware issue (because it worked under Win7), it was not a driver issue (because the first 5 minutes the sound was immaculate), it was not a ground loop (as many have suggested) because that sounds differently.
Thanks to another forum, I found out that it is actually the combination of Windows Defender, Win8-64 Pro and the audio driver that causes this. If the device is idle for some minutes, Defender thinks its a good idea to use the idle time to scan the SSD drive - causing inteference with the audio playback. Of course, you cannot simply disable or switch off the central antivirus process, which would kinda ruin the whole point. :-)
_So I installed Kaspersky suite on the machine (which automatically disables the Windows Defender) and the issue was gone!_ This is probably the only time that installing an antivirus suite FIXES an issue. :-)
BTW, this is probably not limited to this particular antivirus product, just play a bit with Defender.

really helpful. Cannot understand why Microsoft were pushing me to update from poorly performing windows 8 to complete nuisance windows 8.1. My hardly earned money were spent on a product that causes me massive headache.

Network conflicts after updating BB Desktop Software from v.5.0 to v5.0.1

After updating the Blackberry Desktop Software from v5.0.0 to v5.0.1. Using the automatic updating tool, my computer starts loosing connection to the network every 1 hour. I'm using Windows XP.
My company's technical assistance can only resolve the the problem by reinstalling the PC, but when I reinstall the software it happens again.
Can anyone help me?

Doing some more troubleshooting after my post above as I saw a couple of entries referencing Stop Light keep popping up in the log of the Console. I removed Stoplight and Cocoa Gesture (for good meausre) and RDC 2.0.1 started working. I think it is Stop Light which causes RDC stop working, but I don't have to time right now to put Cocoa Gesture back to confirm that. I might if I have the time or post here if you have Stop Light installed as well and removing it resolved the RDC issue for you.

we have updated cisco prime infrastructure from 1.3 to 2.0. When we now import a floor plan (autocad-file, dwg-format), the background from finally image, that is show in prime, is black. Previous imported floor planes has a white background. We also tried to import a previous imported floor plan again, the background is now black. Is there a possibilty to change the background to white? Thanks

Look no further, these issues are related to know bugs. It seems that autocad files have multiple issues with PI 2.0, Only feasible way is to convert them to JPGs and import them. Lets hope these will get fixed to the level they where at PI 1.3.

On PI 2.0 when we try to import autoCAD .dwg file to map, the map appears in black background.

use 3rd party tool like Draftsight or AutoCAD Trueview to change the file to .jpg and import again to PI, after that the map appear in white background in PI 2.0.

Sounds like your phone was hacked to be used with your carrier. There's no way to get it to activate without a SIM from the ORIGINAL carrier
