Increasing Allowable Scratch Disk Space

Hi Gang
I was a bit surprised when I noticed the remaining Free Space of a new Scratch Disk Assigment
http://www.locationstudio.net/FreeSpace-2.jpg
So then I guess I need to increase the Allowable Space since I really have 900 Gigs?

Deleting FCP Preferences:
Open a Finder window. Set the view mode to columns:
Click the house icon that has your name next to it.
Click the folder "Library" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Preferences" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Final Cut Pro User Data" in the next column.
Move the files "Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs", "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" and "Final Cut Pro Prof Cache" to the Trash and empty it.
When you have a stable set of preference files, download [Preference Manager|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] to back them up. If you have further problems, the backup can be recalled and you can continue working.

  • Scratch Disk Space Error Message!!!

In Final Cut Pro HD no matter what I set the scratch disks to be (either my internal drive, or two external drives) the message is always the same and for no reason! It reads "Render Error: Insufficient disk space. Free up space with the Render Manager and retry?" After I see this I have increased the amount of room available on the scratch disks to maximum capacity, deleted my other render files, and etc. I don't know what options I have left. I would really appreciate some help. Thanks.

Try creating a new sequence and copying over a few NON GRAPHIC files and see if the problem appears. If not the start bringing in graphics one at a time till you get the problem again.
Make sure that your graphics are RGB and not CMYK.

  • Need to Increase mount point disk space

    Hello,
I do not know whether this is the appropriate forum to post my question.
I need to increase the mount /u01 disk space . I would like to club two mounts and make one File system to a make a bigger one. I do have 2 filesystems mounted on 2 disks as following.
Filesystem kbytes used avail capacity Mounted on
    /dev/dsk/c1t4d0s0 2012390 9 1952010 1% /u01
    /dev/dsk/c1t14d0s0 2012390 9 1952010 1% /u09
Is there any way that I can merge these two into one filesystem to make a 4 GB filesystem of /u01 ?
    Thanks

    Hi
You have to install a package called Solaris DiskSuite where there is a utility called growfs which can grow your file systems that is it can add more space to your existing file system. Which OS do u have . If you have solaris 7 you have to install it from sun early access CD..If it is already installed , then you have to follow the procedure as given below.
The following example expands a nonmetadevice slice for the /u01 file system. In this example, the existing slice, /dev/dsk/c1t4d0s0, is converted to a metadevice so additional slices can be concatenated.
    # metainit -f d1 2 1 c1t4d0s0 1 c1t4d0s1
    # umount /u01
(Edit the /etc/vfstab file to change the entry for /u01
to the newly defined metadevice, d1.)
    # mount /u01
    # growfs -M /u01 /dev/md/rdsk/d1

  • The problem with scratch disk space.

I have been using Priemere products for over ten years now and have run into a problem recently using Premiere Pro that surprised me.  I was editting a project last week that required me to reuse a lengthy clip several times.  I would set a different in/out point with each use because the clip was not broken up into separate pieces when it was captured.  This is the first time that I have had to do this with such a long clip so I never encountered this problem before.  After saving a considerable amount of different versions of the same clip, I received a notice that the hard drive that I was saving the project in was full.
When I checked the project file I found that with each use of the long clip, Premiere would save the entire clip under the preview files sub-folder.  This meant that in no time at all I had compiled a total of 35 gig of video files from a single 1.2 gig original.  I determined after the fact that I could have redefined a different in/out point on the same original clip without having to reinsert it each time.  This would have resulted in a much smaller preview file size.
I have two questions.  First, is there some way for me to easily back out all of the duplicate clips from the project window of Premiere so that the preview sub-folder size decreases?  Second, will Premiere always duplicate every clip that I select for the timeline in the scratch disk file?  This seems like a tremendous waste of space even though it is suppose to improve realtime preview.  I always thought that the project file just recorded the locations of the clips and when and where to use them.  Maybe I have been wrong all of these years or maybe Adobe Premiere has become more demanding over the years.  Either way, some clarification on these points would be greatly appreciated.

Consider a single clip that may contain 45 minutes of video.  I wanted to use numerous segments from within that large clip in my video.  So, I imported the same clip into the project window of Premiere for each segment that I wan't to use.  Each time I imported the file I would set a different in/out point on it and drag that to my Timeline.  After about the 10th import, Windows informed me that I had exceeded the storage capacity of the hard drive that my scratch disk was on.  I have done numerous videos with both static and video images in the past and have never run into this problem.  That was the nature of my inquiry.

  • Scratch disk space is full error

I'm using Elements 6 on a 10 year old iMac.  Great results until recently receiving message stating "Scratch disk (or startup disk) is full.  Remove files to make more room.  I get that and manual and iMac help only say this can be done, but doesn't tell me how.
Message title was edited by: Brett N

Plug the drive in and when it shows up on your desktop, drag things (photos, documents) to it. When you're sure the files got copied, then you can delete the originals from your main drive.
Incidentally, just FYI, you can't back up PSE that way at all. If you ever need to reinstall you will need to run the installer. Trying to migrate PSE only creates problems, since the installer strews stuff all over your hard drive, in a lot of places you and the migration assistant wouldn't think to look.

  • Scratch disk space?

So, how big a drive do I need to buy to dedicateas a scratch disk for my
Adobe apps these days..if I get them. Mac Pro 2.8GHz Quad Core running
    Leopard.
    inez

They are so cheap these days no need to scrimp. I have a 500Gb scratch disk - overkill for sure but 500Gigs doesn't cost much.
Certain PS commands take up to 5 times the file size to execute - Image Size being a common one. This info is a bit old but it might guide you.

  • Increasing Disk Space on VMware ISE

    hi,
i would like to increase the disk space for Vmware based cisco ise to 600gb.
Increasing the raw disk space is fine on VMware, but how will the ISE or Linux OS modify the partition to recognise the extra disk space
    thank

Refreshing an old thread, but I was faced with this recently.
If you're prepared to roll up your sleeves with Linux, I've figured out a procedure. In my case I couldn't rehost the license since it's an NFR version - and yes Tarik is correct a restore doesn't bring in the license.
    Some instructions here.

  • How do I clear up space on my scratch disk?

I'm borrowing a friend's Macbook laptop so i'm less familiar with how Macs use hard drive space..
Basically the drive is nearly full and I frequently get warnings about this that because it's full, I cannot work in Photoshop or perform certain other functions until space is cleared.
I've saved tons of files from the HD to an external drive, deleted them and emptied the trash, as well as frequently purge my temporary Photoshop files. However these seem to be very temporary fixes and as I continue to work in Photoshop I keep getting warnings about the scratch disk being full despite that I haven't added nearly as many files as I've deleted. It doesn't make sense.
I'm on a time constraint and it's not my computer so I can't get a bigger hard drive or anything.
Is there ANYTHING else I can do to clear up scratch disk space??

Probably worth running something like Disc Inventory X so you can see exactly what's taking up the space - could be some files you weren't aware of still lurking around.

  • Can't capture due to a lack of disk space...except the disk is empty!

Using 5.1.4, I'm attempting to capture some DV footage to an external hard drive with about 60gb free. For some reason, once FCP has captured 2 gigs worth of footage, it stops and claims there isn't enough space on the disk.
My system settings show that the minimum allowable scratch disc space is 2 gigs, so I don't understand why FCP is acting as if 58 gigs of free space equals zero gigs of free space.

Nope, you're going to have to move all of the data off of the drive before you reformat or you'll loose it. In Disk Utility, choose the "Erase" tab at the top of the screen and then choose "Mac OS Extended" or Mac OS Extended (journaled) from the drop down menu for Volume Format, the Click on the "Erase" button. After it's done just copy your data back onto the drive and you're all set.

  • RAPTOR 74GB Boot & PS Scratch Disk?

    Hi,
    I've just bought a 74GB Raptor and a Maxtor MaXLine III 300GB.
My intention is to use the RAPTOR as the boot drive for my applications and the Maxtor as the main storage for all my files. The internal 250GB stock drive will be moved to an enclosure and used as a backup.
    1. How effective would the RAPTOR be as both a boot drive AND scratch disk for Photoshop ?
    2. I know that as a drive fills up the efficiency declines. Would partioning the RAPTOR be an option. Perhaps 10-15GBs for the scratch disk?
    3. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on one of these?
    http://www.cooldrives.com/sata-to-firewire-enclosure-aluminum.html
I live in Ireland and Cool Drives don't ship internationally. I've scoured the web without luck. Any SATA to firewire enclosures that I've found that are available to me arethree times the price of the Cool Drive.
    Quad   Mac OS X (10.4.2)   2.5GB RAM

    I did a 'Google'.
"You can assign scratch disk(s) in the Preferences: Plug-Ins & Scratch Disks screen. It’s possible to assign up to four hard disks, or partitions, and Photoshop will see them as one large storage space for the temporary file. Photoshop supports up to 64EB (an exabyte [EB] is equal to 1 billion gigabytes) of scratch-disk space—more than sufficient for most needs!
Regardless of the number of hard disks you assign, make sure the minimum size is three to five times the RAM allocated to Photoshop. Furthermore, the hard drive should be fast, and if it’s partitioned, the first partition should be assigned. Do not assign removable media, such as a Zip drive, or a network drive as a scratch disk. If you assign dedicated partitions that do not store any other files, de-fragging should not be required."
So I've decided to create a partion on my 300GB Maxtor of 20GB. The max RAM that PS can use is 4GB so 5 times that is 20GB. I currently habe 2.5 B RAM which I will increase to 4.5GB in the near furure. The Maxtor has had good reviews for it's speed so that fulfils the other criteria. Ideally I'd like to use a 36GB Raptor as a scratch disk and I may well do that sometime in the future using a PCI card. My only concern about them is that they affect SLEEP. But that's something I'll think about in 6 months time or so. In the meantime I'll back up religiously to the old 250GB stock drive. I had partitions on my old G4 and they never gave me a problem. In fact they got me out of trouble a few times. So 1 partition doesn't concern me to much.
I'm not a pro photographer but I am a keen amateur who does a little bit here and there for money. Mostly I just want an optimized system at a reasonable cost. The Quad will be my computer for the 4 years at least so I want to ensure that it has all it needs to keep me and it happy.
Thanks to you all for your advice. You can't put a price on your support.

  • There is no enough disk space

I am faced another problem when I was creating VM. Around 80%, it paused and the error was "there is not enough space".
I have at least 127 GB available in my hard drive disk. Also, when I tried to create VHD, it allowed me only dynamic, not fixed.
it says you don't have enough disk space when I try to create fixed vhd. What is going on?

I think there is more going on in the system (as a whole) than you are aware of.
Page files, RAM save state files, media save locations, it all adds up.
This is one of those things that it is extremely difficult to help with through the passage of time and the use of a keyboard and text.  Experience and eyeballs could probably give a reason in minutes.  But we don't have the luxury here.
A VHD must grow if it is dynamic.  If you create checkpoints, those increase your used disk space. there are many, many possibilities.
You have to investigate and pay careful attention to the various places you are looking.
From your other thread I would already venture that you have multiple physical drive partitions, multiple VHDs, failed attempts at various things, etc.

  • IBooks Author versions eating disk space

    Hello
running iBooks Author Version 2.2 on Yosemite 10.10.3
It seems that the automatic saving does not save only the changes to the project, but the whole project every time.
On a big project that consumes GBs of disk space.
In earlier versions of iBooks Author you were able to delete non used versions from within the App:
Why is iBooks Author using up my scratch disk space?
I found out where the versions are saved (in a hidden folder where you have no privilegies).
I gave myself the privilegies needed and deleted 1 of the earlier versions...
    Not a good idea...
If i go to File -> Revert (maybe bad translation from German) the App hangs an blocks the whole system...
Has anybody found a solution to recover disk space used by iBooks Author versioning?

Your computer but....are  you working on a network at the school or in your home with  your own  net connection?
Networks have exclusions set  by the IT department to prevent misuse.
A book exported to PDF , should  show teh  book content , albeit, slighty different to what your see in iBA or iBooks when previewed.  Again, it  if you are on a network, there may be issues.
Run a text with a default template saved from iBA and see what the result  is.

    Hi Andrey,
You need to reorganize whole tablespace, not only tables in order to reclaim the free space to the OS.
The prerequisite for online reorganization is:
    Oracle 9.2 database or higher.
The prerequisite for online conversion of the LONG-fields into LOB-fields:
    Oracle 10g database or higher.
Online conversion is supported for SAP kernel 7.00 or higher. For SAP kernel 6.40,
it is supported only in a restricted manner (see "Caution" in point III). Conversion is
not supported for SAP systems with a kernel lower than 6.40.
Check the note 646681 - Reorganizing tables with BRSPACE

  • Laptop users: Any recommendations for a scratch disk for Illustrator CC?

    Hello everyone.
I have been reading into scratch disks and their use with Illustrator, Photoshop, etc. It seems most of the discussions have been about desktop systems though. I am currently using just a 13" late 2013 Macbook Pro w/retina. 256GB SSD and 8GB of RAM.
I actually have a new 1 TB external USB 3.0 WD drive, but I believe it's a 5400rpm and might not be fast enough to be used as a scratch disk? If not, I was thinking of either getting a 7200rpm USB 3.0 external drive, or a USB 3.0 external SSD. Perhaps something like these?
Amazon.com: U32 Shadow™ 240GB External USB 3.0 Portable Solid State Hard Drive SSD: Computers & Accessories
Amazon.com: HGST Touro Mobile Pro 1TB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive, Black (0S03559): Computers &
Illustrator CC is currently just set to use my startup disk as the scratch disk. I don't believe I have run into any problems yet, that might have involved Illustrator needing more than my 8GB ram, and needing to use the scratch disk, but I am not totally sure, and I just want to get one setup anyways, for future use. I am also looking into using this with some light Photoshop use in the future also.
Those of you who use a laptop for Illustrator and other Adobe programs, what do you use for your scratch disk?
Also, where does Illustrator store these scratch disk temp files on a Mac? I have not been able to find any useful information through Google searching so far. Mostly just stuff related to Photoshop scratch disks. I would like to check the location these files are supposed to be stored to see if there's anything taking up HD space that I could take back, and also as a guide to see how much scratch disk space I should look into getting.
    Thanks!!!

Yes, you could do it. Remember to follow licensing restrictions. Here's an article on how to import after installing the operating system:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25773
Keep around locked in your office an external Firewire hard drive with partitions formatted for both Intel and PowerPC Macs containing all the applications and the operating systems and default user documents you want to keep. These can serve as the basis for the migration assistent import.

  • 20gb of Disk Space Vanishes? On it's own?

Hi guys, I'm a long time mac user and have never seen anything like this.
I run a 2.53gz MBP 5,1. with 4gb of ram and 320gb HD. I have the drive partitioned with a 60gb NTFS bootcamp partition for WindowsXP that I use with Parallels 4. I use Time Machine to backup to a 2tb WD drive.
So, I've been running the machine all day long with approximately 24.5gb of disk space. I left my desk around 6:00 today and I just came back to find a low disk space error and saw that I only had 1.8gb left, and watched it drip down to 1.5, 1.3 and 1.1gb right in front of my eyes without doing anything at all! I rebooted and now the computer has been sitting steady at 5.7gb. I looked through my timemachine archive to earlier in the day and the last update was right after I left (with 24.5gb of disk space left) the next update is inexplicably at 1.7gb. I did get info on all the main folders in my root directory (Applications, Library, System & Users) and the identical folders now and there is almost no difference whatsoever in folder size! Yet, when you look at the bottom of the window in the time machine reference from a few hours earlier it says 24.5gb available, and then go back to the "now" window it says 5.7gb available...
I'm totally baffled. approximately 19gb of disk space just completely vanished and I can't account for the change or the increase in used disk space anywhere.
The only recent update was the Security Update 2010-001 that was issued on the 19th.
I have tried to restart. Reset the PRAM. Checked the SMART status using Disk Utility. Everything checks out.
The only thing I could possibly point to is an issue with Bootcamp and the NTFS drive. However I was not running bootcamp or parallels when this happened.
Time Machine was stuck at "Calculating Changes... (15%)" when I came back and the Time Machine drive is nearly full...but I don't think this should matter.
Also Time Machine hasn't completed a full backup since the drive was at it's original 24.5gb. I'm wondering if it got stuck when doing a backup and somehow is confused between what is backed up and what isn't and there is disk space being "held" somewhere by time machine somehow.
Any suggestions on what happened to the mystery 19gb?

The two swap files sound OK, you will always have at least one of approximately 60MBs. The sleepimage is also normal: it will be about the size of the RAM you have, and contains the content of your actual RAM. The point being that if you put your computer into hibernate, or for a laptop the battery runs out of juice, when the machine is again brought back into action it can resume from where it was when things were stopped. So that is normal.
It sounds like perhaps a run-away log file could be responsible. You might take a look in
    /private/var/log
Arrange by size and see what you've got. My biggest one is the folder for DiagnosticMessages, at 5MBs. Everything else is in the KB range.
If that doesn't turn up the culprit you can use the Terminal commands.
