Increasing partition size for Windows 7 Ultimate in a clean install

I am running XP on a 32GB partition through bootcamp. I'm using OS 10.5.8 for my MacPro.
I wanted to do a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate (upgrade) in a larger partition than before, probably a new one.
I have about 400GB of available space for this and wanted to know if it was possible before starting out. I ran out of space with 32GB for XP and figure a good 100GB partition would be safe with all the updates etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I believe you have to go back to the original mac partition and start from there. Just like it was a new set up of boot camp.

  • Increasing partition size for windows

can i increase the size of my windows partition with bootcamp?
i installed windows at first just so that i can use some of the program and files that runs on windows. And i thought since i was going to format that partition in the FAT way then i can access files on OS X. But after the installation of windows i realize that i'd have to go to OS X and drag that file into the windows partition and then restart in windows to use them. And now it's too late (or not if you guys tell me that i can increase its size) because i've only gave the windows partition 5 GBs of capacity and after installation only 1.7 GBs is left free. What if i want to watch a movie i downloaded that is 2 GB in size? i can't possibly drag that into my windows partition after i downloaded it with OS X because it will be too big for it. What can i do now?

  • Appropriate partition size for windows 7?

i just bought windows 7 and want to install it on my mac pro that i recently bought. i was wondering what's an appropriate partition size for windows 7 and if it matters whether i install the 32 bit or the 64 bit? i'm mainly using it for a game (league of legends) if that makes an difference. thank you for your time.
    -Nikko

If you have more than 4GB of RAM or are planning on some time in the future to install more than 4GB of RAM use the 64 bit version. The 32 bit version can not address more than 4GB. Windows programs are now 64 bit. Your computer is 64 bit. 64 bit Windows runs 32 bit Windows programs. So there is no reason to install 32 bit Windows.
Windows 7 requires a lot of space. Then you need space for any data you create. I think that at a minimum you need 50GB plus data. I would opt for larger rather than smaller so the minimum I would partition is 100GB. If you conserve space now by making a small partition it is likely you will fill up that space quickly. You'll then wish you had made a larger partition initially. Search this forum, there are several questions on how to make a Boot Camp partition larger.

  • What is the maximum partition size for windows on 128GB MBA?

I want to use Windows 7 as my primary OS on my 128GB MBA. How big can I make my windows partition? Is there anything special I need to do?

    You have two options.
    1. Put OSX on an external drive - OS X: Installing OS X on an external volume - Apple Support and make your internal disk to be fully Windows.
    2. Use minimal OSX size between 16-32G, and the remainder for Windows.

  • Recommended Boot Camp Partition Size for Windows XP

    All,
What size is recommended for a Windows XP Boot Camp Partition? 100Gb? 50Gb?
Main use is to run a few programs that are not available for Mac. Most everything else will be transferred over.
    Thanks

Depending on the programs you want to install, you can get by with very little. I have virtual XP systems that live within 8GB virtual disks. If you've got the drive space, go for ~30GB. I've found that to be a nice size for running Windows 7 within, and thus you likely won't have to mess with re-partitioning should you update the OS in the future.

  • Max GPT partition size for Windows 2008R2

Is the max partition size 256tb -64K? for 64k stripe size?? What is the max?

    Hi Jared,
From Windows Server 2003 SP1, Windows XP x64 edition, and later versions, the maximum raw partition of
18 exabytes can be supported. (Windows file systems currently are limited to 256 terabytes each.)
GPT disks support partitions of up to 18 exabytes (EBs) in size and up to 128 partitions per disk.

  • Expanding Partition Size for Windows

I used Bootcamp to set up a partition on my computer for Windows, and spent some time tweaking... and then found that I was nearly out of space when selecting a 40GB partition. So as much as it pained me to do so, I deleted the partition, and then tried to start all over. But now, on that screen of the Bootcamp setup, it won't allow me to specify a partition larger than 44GB, and as you can see from the screen shot below, I have plenty of excess capacity on my computer (after deleting several things, emptying my trash and rebooting).
Any ideas on why I won't "slide" any further?

I'm afraid not. The easy way is to make a bootable backup of your hard drive. Boot from the backup, erase the internal drive, then restore the backup from the backup drive. The tool for that is Disk Utility.
Clone the internal drive to an external backup drive.
Boot from the Recovery HD on the newly made clone.
    Erase the internal drive.
Restore the clone to the internal drive.
Clone Yosemite, Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
             button.
         2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
    Boot Using OPTION key:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
          "OPTION" key.
      3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
      4. Select the disk icon of the external drive's Recovery HD.
      5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.
When the Utility Menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the OS X volume on the internal drive from the sidebar list, click on the Erase tab in Disk Utility's main window, set the format to Mac OS Extended, Journaled and click on the Erase button.
    Restore the clone
         1. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         2. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         3. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         4. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         5. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Source means the external backup drive. Destination means the internal startup drive.

  • How to increase page size for balance file upload in Workspace.

    Hi All,
Please suggest how to increase page size for balance file upload in shared Workspace pages.
    Thanks,

A word of caution is in order regarding changing from facing to non-facing and back again. If you have overridden master page items, you'll get a second, non-overridden copy on all the even-number pages when that half of the master page is re-applied. This applies to master text frames which override automatically when text flows into them as well as to objects you manually override. I think you'll find this particular technique also only works for master text frames, whereas the Layout Adjustment should work in all situations where frames snap to guides.

How can i increase the size of window to full size...

You need to install the "kernel-devel" and "kernel-headers" packages and then choose "Install Virtualbox Guest additions" from the Virtualbox menu, while logged in as root, in order to install the appropriate video driver that will allow you to resize the screen.

  • Partition size for Leopard

I am in the process of planning a new internal hard drive for my iMac G5 and am hoping for some advice. It will be a dual boot Tiger/Leopard partitioned 1TB drive (already purchased). I would like to maximize space in my third partition for non-sensitive files (music, photos, 40 hours and growing of home video) while leaving adequate space on the boot partitions to run the OS comfortably.
Any suggestions for partition sizes for Leopard and Tiger?
    - Shawn

I read yesterday that a new Firewire standard is to be announced in October raising throughput to that seen on eSata drives. So maybe the new crop of external drives that will hit the market will make some of this issue disappear.
I am about to rebuild my Mac (500gb drive, Intel Core duo) and was thinking only three partitions would be necessary (OS X, BOOTCAMP / WinXP and DATA). I have an external video scratch disk for FCE.
However I am unsure how to ensure my USR folders are mapped to the DATA partition so that the 50GB is only for OS X and the applications. I have noticed the Library \ Application Support folder can get quite large depending on the apps installed.
Is there some sort of white paper or thread that gives advice on this?
    Thanks
    Eric

    Hi,
Do you have WebEx Productivity plugin installed on the  machine? I can reproduce this problem after exiting Jabber, creating a  One-click meeting from Outlook and restarting Jabber. Please provide  further information to help me open a defect.
    - What was the version of Jabber on this machine prior to 9.1.0?
    - What is the version of the WebEx productivity tool plugin (if it is installed)?
    - Is there a particular sequence that you can follow to reproduce it everytime?

  • ITunes 11.2.2 for Windows x64 will not successfully install.  Removed prior iTunes, and still will not install. 10.7 installs just fine, but constantly asks to upgrade to 11.2.2.  Any Thoughts?

iTunes 11.2.2 for Windows x64 will not successfully install.  Removed prior iTunes, and still will not install. 10.7 installs just fine, but constantly asks to upgrade to 11.2.2.  Any Thoughts?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if one component won't install normally.
If needs be, the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility (MS Installer "Fixit") may be able to help force through the installation.
