Increasing the iCal client timeout time?
Is there a way to increase iCal's time-out period?
We've got a Mac Mini serving out about 2600 events though an iCal calendar and while we've got about 10 users on it currently, we'd like to add another 50 users although we'll probably have to upgrade to a different piece of hardware first. In the mean time there's about 20 users we'd like in total to be using the iCal calendar. If we could increase the timeout period to say five minutes we could ensure that people would be able to use it for the time being.
Hi,
Please post this question in the ODI forum:

Problem with entries from the ical client/server
Hi together,
I have the problem that my events are not longer visible in the ical-client of my assistant and I also can not see the events from her. Also I can not see this/my entries on the other clients (iphone, ipad).
When I add an entry to my calendar on mac Book an then I look the the calendar in the wiki (to have a look on the server local) I can not see my calendar-entries there. So they are not written down. But why?
In the log I find a lot of this entries:
127.0.0.1 - "user as xxb" 08/Nov/2010:10:11:58 +0200 "REPORT(CalDAV:calendar-query) /calendars/_uids_/wiki-xxb/calendar/ HTTP/1.1" 207 65 "https://www.xxxx.ch/groups/xxb/" "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; de; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 Firefox/3.6.12" i=8012 t=131.9 or=1 responses=0

Does someone have an idea what the problem may be?
It worked fine till the begin of last week - I can not remember to change something in this time.
Thanks

How to increase the iCal Alert Popup BOX height?
I would like to be able to increase iCal's Alert popup box to show more than two concurrent alert notifications at one time. Ideally, this popup box would dynamically size itself to the number of active alert notifications up to the available screen space. A second less elegant solution would be to enable the user to resize the iCal Alert popup box manually. A third even less elegant solution would be to statically redefine a new default height in terms of either active alert notifications or pixels. Anything would be better than the limitations currently in place...
Here is an example of three concurrent alerts. In this case, the user must scroll down within the iCal Alert popup box to see Alert #3.Hi
It's not at all possible.
If you want to use a textbox with muliple line items... you need to use Text Edit control. If you want to use that click on the following link for clear information:

Increasing the wifi range of time capsule
Hello friends,
I have a 2 TB time capsule. Can I increse the wi fi range more. How can it be done.
Best regards
MohanThe Transmit Power of the Time Capsule is already set at 100%.....which is the maximum power allowed by law.....so it is not possible to increase the power.
You might want to to take a look at an AirPort Express, or AirPort Extreme to repeat and "extend" the wireless network that the Time Capsule is broadcasting. -
How do I configure the ssh client timeout?
Hello,
I have X Server 10.4 setup and it seems any ssh session from a client gets timed out by the server in about 5 min or less. Can anyone point me to how I can configure this to last longer?
Thanks for any help.
Cheers,
-Brian
Mac OS X (10.4.9)Edit the file /etc/sshd_config on the server and look for the lines:
<pre class=command>#ClientAliveInterval 0
#ClientAliveCountMax 3</pre>
The ClientAliveInterval is how frequently, in seconds, the ssh server sends a keepalive check if the connection is idle. Setting it to something like 60 will ping the line once per minute.
The ClientAliveCountMax states how many keepalives can be missed before the connection is dropped. A setting of 3 (with the above set to 60) means that if there's no response within 3 minutes the connection will drop.
You can uncomment and tune these settings to find the appropriate level of timeouts for your connection. -
How to increase the request timeout value in Oracle 10g web container
Hi,
Iam using Oracle10g Application server .
For long running backend process my JSP page is getting re-submitted after 3 mins.
How do i avoid this ?
Is there a way to increase the http request timeout interval.
If so where do i change the timeout interval.
In IIS web server I can change the timeout interval.
Thanks
Sridhar.Hi,
If you mean to increase the request timeout i.e the time when a request is submitted to the server and the response is sent by the server it can be done in httpd.conf file located in $OracleHome/Apache/Apache/conf directory.
The attribute to be used for setting timeout is "Timeout". By default teh value is 600 seconds i.e 5 minutes.
After making these changes , run command dcmctl updateConfig -ct OHS and restart the HTTP Server. Please note these commands need to be run only if the httpd.conf changes are done through text editor.
Hope this helps.

Adding groups to delegate in ical client
I've got iCal server working but would really like to be able to delegate to a group instead of adding 30 odd names in one at a time.
I have the groups working correctly for AFP with Workgroup manager. Was hoping iCal server would just use these groups to delegate in iCal client but obviously not since they don't appear when I type them in.
So do I need to setup groups in a global address book for this to work? Where does the iCal client try to read its delegates from?
Discussed here:
http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=1&eotf= 1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fsupport.osxplain.de%2Fcontent%2F4%2F1%2Fde%2Fgruppenkontakte.ht ml&sl=de&tl=en

Been having a dabble but scared I'm going to break something!Hi-
Were you able to delegate to a group via the command line? I've been trying and although the command goes through, the resource or location does not show up in an individual user's iCal account under the delegation tab. I too want to avoid adding 40+ users manually!
Thanks,

Ical client setup with 10.6 server
I have iCal server up and running on my 10.6 server and everything seems to be working right. however I have set the server side up to use ssl and have opened those ports on my firewall which works. My problem is that after setting up a user I send out the welcome email and that has the configure my mac link. Which was done before I change the iCal server settings to use ssl. And now every time I go in and manually set the server settings to use ssl on the client side and quit and reopen ical another account is added without the ssl settings. How do i get it to stop automatically adding an account to iCal?
This looks like a bug in the iCal client. I, too, have had problems with delegated calendars and end users mistaking events for being missing, not updated or incorrect only because their local copy was not synced with the true copy on the server. The refresh rate on delegated calendars can be changed with the "Refresh calendars: [ Every 1 minute ]" preference. You can verify this by right-clicking or control-clicking on the delegated calendar and choosing "Show CalDAV Queue." This brings up a queue of activity with the iCal Server. You'll note at the top that it mentions "Refresh every 1 minute."
The problem, of course, is if you quit iCal and recheck the "Show CalDAV Queue" on the delegated calendar, the refresh interval has reverted to some long interval like 300 or 900 minutes. This is a bug, for sure. For now, you can tell your clients not to quit iCal or to refresh manually or reset the refresh interval whenever they restart iCal/their computer, etc. -
Hi,
I'm trying to set a timeout on my web service client. But its not working. Your tutorials do not seem to address this.
I am using weblogic 10.3.2, with Java 1.6.
============
Properties propSys = System.getProperties();
propSys.put( "weblogic.webservice.UseWebLogicURLStreamHandler", "true" );
Stub stub = (Stub)portObject;
BindingInfo bindingInfo = (weblogic.webservice.binding.BindingInfo)stub._getProperty("weblogic.webservice.bindinginfo");
bindingInfo.setTimeout(1);
Iterator itr = stub._getPropertyNames();
while (itr.hasNext()){
Object element = itr.next();
log("\n properties that can be set: "+element);
stub._setProperty("weblogic.webservice.rpc.timeoutsecs","1");
===========
I've also tried setting the transaction-timeout and the remove-client-timeout in the weblogic-ear-jar.xml.
===========
<weblogic-ejb-jar>
<weblogic-enterprise-bean>
<ejb-name>ExternalEntryEJB</ejb-name>
<transaction-descriptor>
<trans-timeout-seconds>1</trans-timeout-seconds>
</transaction-descriptor>
<enable-call-by-reference>True</enable-call-by-reference>
<jndi-name>ExternalEntry</jndi-name>
<remote-client-timeout>1</remote-client-timeout>
</weblogic-enterprise-bean>
<weblogic-enterprise-bean>
<ejb-name>InternalEJB</ejb-name>
<local-jndi-name>Internal</local-jndi-name>
<enable-call-by-reference>True</enable-call-by-reference>
<remote-client-timeout>1</remote-client-timeout>
<transaction-descriptor>
<trans-timeout-seconds>1</trans-timeout-seconds>
</transaction-descriptor>
</weblogic-enterprise-bean>
</weblogic-ejb-jar>
===========
in case it matters, I am using weblogic.ant.taskdefs.webservices.clientgen.ClientGenTask as the clientgen task in my build.xml
============
<clientgen autotype="False" ear="${dist}/${app.earname}" warName="${servlet.warname}" packageName="MyPackage.webservices.client"
keepgenerated="False" useServerTypes="True" clientJar="${dist}/MyAppClient.jar">
<classpath refid="build.classpath.builddir"/>
</clientgen>
============
I am testing by putting a Thread.sleep(75000) in the method which is called in the internal EJB. But the method runs to completion and returns the reply object after 90 seconds or so (it normally takes about 12 seconds), but does not timeout.
I've been told that because it is a web services client, the remote-client-timeout will be ineffective. I've also been told that because the EJBs run in the same JVM, the transaction-timeout will be ineffective. Is this so?
Thanks,
WalterCan you change the clientgen task to weblogic.wsee.tools.anttasks.ClientGenTask this is for jax-rpc 1.1.
<taskdef name="clientgen"
classname="weblogic.wsee.tools.anttasks.ClientGenTask" />
((Stub)port)._setProperty(weblogic.wsee.transport.connection.timeout,2);
((Stub)port)._setProperty(weblogic.wsee.transport.read.timeoutt,2);
Hope that helps. -
iCal (Client) version with 10.6.2, intermittently loses "Refresh Frequency"
10.6.2 SLS with 1.5 mo. new MacPro tower with 4 Cores (just bought)
3GB RAM
Network Homes
Network Calendars (only, no published things, no busysync, all Apple Champagne)
iCal Server enable
Solid, fast network homes, logins quick, kick-*** OD implementation, very few beach balls, though they grow when I get all 12 delegates refreshing calendars every minute.
Push turned off (it doesn't work as advertised, in my tests)
Set iCal client to refresh each minute
12 Read/Write Delegates for each of 13 workstations. (so, we're really expecting a lot, but not a lot, like in, we expect Exchange/Outlook robustness -- on open standards woo hoo)
But yeah, the main symptom is that the ical client loses it mind (at some as yet undetermined interval) and stops refreshing. And the formerly trusting Calendar user, misses a meeting, because the change the delegate made to their calender didn't refresh and the Calendar user shows up an hour late, or misses the event entirely. That won't work.
OK. back to what I've tried. (I haven't tried, but am considering it, moving to PHD)
I have turned off PUSH. I hope that returns some server processing cycles.
I have ( and this fixes it temporarily ) set their refresh frequency to manual. Close Prefs. Open Prefs, set back to 1 Minute. Close prefs. And that holds for a day (?) two days (?) I haven't gotten that far yet. I did that last night. And it saved me from having to remove and add the network calendar account. So, my remedy is down to about 40 seconds and 10 mouse clicks. Still annoying, and should work properly.
Apple Enterprise support is being awesome. They send me the engineering capture tool and I am awaiting the symptom return. Then I run that app and it gobbles up lots of logs on an affected client workstation and the server. So, wish me luck, and send any thoughts or ideas along.This looks like a bug in the iCal client. I, too, have had problems with delegated calendars and end users mistaking events for being missing, not updated or incorrect only because their local copy was not synced with the true copy on the server. Best way to increase hard drive space on Time Capsule?
Quick questions for those of you who've increased the storage on your Time Capsules:
1. Did you swap out the internal hard drive or did you add a USB external hard drive?
2. For those that added a USB external hard drive, what are the drawbacks? I've read some threads saying their external hard drive is flaky and they need to power cycle the TC to get their hard drive visible on their Macs.
Here's my situation: I have two Macs backing up to a 500GB TC and I only have 13GB free. I want to increase the hard drive space and am toying with these two options:
1. Swap out the internal hard drive to 1TB and have both Macs back up the new hard drive.
2. Add a 1TB external USB hard drive and have one Mac back up to that drive while the other Mac continues to back up to the internal 500GB drive.
FYI, I'm proficient with building PCs so I have no issues swapping the internal hard drive if that's the best option. It's just that adding an external hard drive is a lot easier.Based on the how-to articles I've read, it seems like you could remove the rubber pad without destroying it (if one is careful in removing it). That said, I think I'm going to just buy an external HDD and attach it to the TC. dchao99's comment about using an external HDD with his AEBS without issue helps alleviate some of the concerns I had with that option.
I was toying with buying a Drobo to attach to the TC but I'm pretty sure I'm just gonna get an external HDD like a Western Digital MyBook or something similar. -
WebLogic Builder remote-client-timeout

ICal Server 10.6 + AD users + iCal Client = Booo
New 10.6.1 server installation (new dual quad xserve). DNS is dialed in forward and back. Wikis work great. As do web-based calendars for AD users. But whenever I try to use the iCal client to connect to the calendar I get login errors. 10.5 clients say "Your password was rejected..." 10.6 gives a similar error.
I don't understand why the calendar works via the "MyPage" but not via iCal clients.
Can someone give me a direction to look?I have the same problem, just not with the same setup. Server is 10.5.8, authentication is done via Open Directory. If I enable Kerberos it works, but digest authentication doesn't. In what may be related, I can't sign into the webmail with any users either... same "Incorrect password" message.

Simple iCal client/server configuration guide?
Is there a simple guide somewhere which explains how to setup the iCal client once your iCal Server is up and running?
