Incredible 2 ...Screen & Buttons Unresponsive...Cant Factory Reset...what now?

This is a replaecment phone Ive had for 32 days.  It wasnt dropped and had no water damage.  SImply stopped functioning.  The 4 bottom buttons wont work, he screen barely recognizes touch.  It wont factory reset, and to top it all off, my Settings App "is no longer installed" on my phone.  **bleep** could have happened?  This is some weird **bleep** and its maddening, seeing as how it woeked one moment and the next...nothing.  Any advice?   Will the insurance company or Verizon replace this?  What a racket...

Try resetting with this method...
Press the Power buttonfor 3 - 5 seconds.
Select Power off.
If the device isn't responding proceed with step 3.
Remove / replace the battery.
Press and hold the Volume down key then press and hold the Power buttonfor 3 to 5 seconds.
When the HBOOT screen appears, release the Volume down key.
Press the Volume key to select FACTORY RESET then press the Power button.
This boot process takes several moments. If the device hangs or freezes, remove / replace the battery.
Perform Initial Activation / Setup.

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If basic troubleshooting does not resolve the issue, take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

The iPhone has a feature called "Activation Lock" described here:

Without that Apple ID, you will not be able to use that iPhone.

  • Backed up with 10.3, did a factory reset and now it comes up as 10.2 and I can't restore

I was on 10.3 with by Q10 but it the other day it wasn't connected to my provider. I did a back up and then and factory reset. Now my phone is cleared with 10.2., When i do a restore with bb link it won't let me because my phone has to have 10.3. I called Rogers ( my carrier ) and they said that 10.3 it's being offered right now due to some issues BB was having. When i run a software update on my phone or via link it says it's up to date with 10.2.
I lost all my text messages, settings, media, apps...
I have my contacts and calendar syned with outlook but not being able to restore the other stuff is very annoying..
    any help?

    Hi,
as far as I understand the situation is as follwos:
    1) You had 10.3 on your Q10 and ran the backup
    2) Now you did a wipe and the Q10 is back to 10.2
    3) You can not restore the data becuase it was backed up as 10.3 and the device is on 10.2
    4) It does not provide you the possibility to update to 10.3
From what I know, Blackberry detected an issue with one of the latest versions of 10.3 and therefore stopped the deployment. During the next days they should release the updated version adn deploy it globally. Then I assume your Q10 will prompt you for update again.
I had the same with a Z30 I recently received as my business mobile...I wondered why I was unable to update to 10.3 a this was released some weeks ago. But then i read about the issues and that they put 10.3 for the "old" devices on hold. 2 days ago I received 10.3 for the Z30. Therfore I am confident that it will be available for your Q10 soon (always depends on BB and the carriers)

  • IPad2 screen not responding, doing factory reset, but....

My iPad2 was not responding to touch.  I tried to 'reset it by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for a least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.'.  That did not work. Next step: Tried to do a factory reset by hooking it up to my Windows laptop using Itunes.  Unfortunately, it needed me to answer questions using the iPad2 ..... which is not responding to touch.   So I guess I now have a friendly iPad2 that is dedicated to greeting  me in 6 different languages.
Any suggestions would be most  welcome.
    Thanks.

    Hi melindamay,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your iPad 2 is not responding to touch, and you've already tried resetting it and restoring with iTunes.
If you're not able to restore the iPad using iTunes, you may want to try restoring the device while it is in recovery mode:
To put your device into recovery mode, follow these steps:
Turn off your device and leave it off.
Plug in your device's USB cable to a computer with iTunes.
Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
When you see this screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 again.
When your device is connected, iTunes will open. You'll see a message saying that iTunes has detected an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in recovery mode.
Use iTunes to restore your device. Restoring in recovery mode will erase your device. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you might be able to restore from your backup.
You can find these steps here:
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Additionally, the support article If the screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond to touch suggests contacting Apple or an Authorized Service Provider if your touchscreen is unresponsive and the device can't be restored:
If your touchscreen still doesn't respond like it should, contact Apple Support or take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.
    Best Regards,

  • On screen buttons unresponsive

Suddenly since last night On screen buttons started behaving abruptly. They arent responsive and have to tap them multiple times before getting some response. But rest of the screen response is doing perfect. Yesterday morning I performed a factory reset from safe mode. I installed the inbuilt avast antivirus and just whatsapp and es explorer. This is the first time i installed that avast. But for the whole day phone didnt gave any issue. I dont want to send my phone to xperia center as they will flash it to the buggy lollipop which I dotn want to.

I'd suggest that you do a PC Companion phone repair, this will do a clean installation of the latest firmware and will also wipe your internal memory. It will solve such software glitches better than factory reset.
Open PC companion -> Support zone -> Phone/tablet software update -> Repair my phone/tablet (blue link style). Follow the steps given, do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable.

  • Phone underwent recovery mode/factory reset. Now my iPhone 5 will not accept my Apple ID to reactivate.

My phone went under recovery mode after a quick dip in some water today, after plugging it in and doing a factory reset, it went to the 'Hello, hola, bonjour' screen. When asked to enter my Apple ID & password to activate my phone, it said the email was incorrect. I've called Apple & they said it was the corresponding email. I've used the same Apple ID to sign into everything; iTunes, iCloud online, Facetime on my MacBook Air. I even used it to sign in to ask this question .. It's just my phone that won't accept my Apple ID. Any help would be fantastic, it's really frustrating knowing the one device I use the most is now out of service for no good reason at all.
Also, when plugged into my laptop, error 2005 & 9 came up.

Okay pal, so why are you posting here?
I didn't 'dump' it into anything, it fell
    and?
You did write, "no good reason at all".
Intentional or not, electronics going into water is not a good thing.
Then to top it off, it gets plugged in and turned on is surely one of the dumbest things I have seen in a long time.
If there was a "Doofus" or a "Really?button, I'd click it an infinite amount of times.
    Thanks for the laugh!
    Good luck!

  • Macbook Air Factory Reset failed - now it's No Entry

    I tried the instructions here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17324315?searchText=How%20do%20I%20factory %20reset%20my%20Macbook%20Air?#17324315
with one change, in that I opted for an encrypted partition. That is to say, I booted with cmd-R, erased the old Lion partition, created a new one (journaled, encrypted), then opted to install Lion. The download of additional components took about 2.5 hrs before reboot. I wasn't paying full attention, but I had the impression that the reboot took place before the progress meter reached the end. You should also know that my Internet connection is USDPA. Copper doesn't stretch far enough in these parts.
The reason for doing this was a combination of two factors. First, my MacBook Air was full, yet finding anything that was deletable had become almost impossible (can you tell I'm really a Windows user yet?) The second was that I'd recently installed some Randomly Downloaded Software so I could watch a movie over DLNA. It was hogging the CPU even when not in use and I couldn't figure out how to get rid of it. Other than the reasons stated, the machine was in full working order. At that point, Factory Reset just seemed the sensible option.
Arrgh, why did I do that? Why did I try the factory reset? After 20 years working in IT, I knew it was going to give me grief, but I did it anyway.
After the reboot, a No Entry sign and the 'turning daisy wheel' appeared. I figured the machine must be continuing with the install, so I left it overnight. But in the morning, it was still the same. I powered it down and back up - same. So, I came here.
    What did I do wrong?
And how do I fix it? (As I type, I am trying again, which involves another mega-download over a mobile data connection, though since I'm repeating exactly the same steps, it's hard to see how it can turn out any different...)

If you haven’t already done so, back up the computer if you have anything you want to save. If in doubt, back up anyway. You are about to lose everything - your configuration o email, any saved passwords or data. Everything. Backing up with TimeMachine (or using a cloning program such as SuperDuper! will let you restore your data and configurations after the OS reset.)
    1. Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the Mac OS X Utilities window appears.
    2. Select Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities window and click on the Continue button.
    3. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
    5. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
    6. Quit DU and return to the Mac OS X Utilities window.
    7. Select Reinstall Yosemite and click on the Install button.
    8. When complete restart the computer.

  • I just updated to iOS 8 on my iPad 2 and got an error then factory reset! Now I cannot see my Purchased Apps

I just updated to iOS 8 on my iPad 2 and due to a unforeseen error on iTunes I had to do factory reset. I was using my friend's iMac iTunes to download and update, instead of OTA. Now I'm unable to see my previously purchased apps (some even discontinued that I was hanging on to as they still kind of worked)... Even after I logged into App store on my iPad (tried restoring iCloud and iTunes but no luck, somehow there isn't any backup)! I checked my App Store updates/purchases and see nothing. A forum suggested I try buying it anyway and it will say I already have it and not double charge, but I don't want to take that chance as most of these apps are over $4. I have receipts for all my purchases. Please help!

When you do an update via a computer's iTunes the update process will backup the device (a backup doesn't contain the actual apps, just their content/settings), wipe the device, install the update, and then restore the backup - the restore would look to pick up your apps, music, films etc from the iTunes library.
You've tried logging out (tap on your id at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app) and back in and seeing if they then show in the Purchased tab, and you could also check to see if the apps are hidden from Purchased : iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases.
If an app is no longer in the store then you won't be able to redownload it. You haven't got copies of your apps in your own computer's iTunes library and/or on your backup of your downloads/library ?
