Incredible is Locked Up

My HTC Incredible is locked up.  I was on the internet downloading some information when the screen froze.  The phone won't do anything.  What can I do to fix this?  How can I shut it down?

Thanks for your help!  I was able to get the battery out and reset my phone.  Seems to be working fine now.  Thanks again!

  • HTC Incredible phone locked up

I'm having all kinds of problems with my HTC Incredible phone but I'll be happy if someone could tell me how to restart my phone.  There was a update for Verizon App. icon, so I let it update, now it goes from this red eye picture to HTC quietly brilliant screen, then this screen with random words all over it. When I hold down the power button, nothing happens, wont shut off, wont restart nothing.

The screens you're describing are what I see when I restart: The Quietly Brilliant screen, the Droid eye, then the Droid words all over it ... this is the final screen until it boots up on its own. Are you saying it's not progressing past the Droid words screen? You're not touching the power button then, are you?
Try pulling the battery. Once you put it back in, let it start up on its own and see what happens. It takes a minute or two, so be patient. Post back and let me know what happens.

  • System Lock-ups. What can be wrong?

On to more serious issues.. .
I am experiencing system lock-ups on the brand spanking new computer I just buildt.(Yeah, yeah.. . Anti-static and all other thinkable precautions were taken.. .)
Needless to say it's annoying the hell out of me. I can't work and I can't play with a situation like this.. .
The system just hangs and the only solution is to press the reset button.
This usually happens in games or when scrolling a window. Less frequently it also happens when doing nothing. It only seems like it's getting worse - more frequent that is.
Are there any known issues with TwinMos RAM and nForce2?
The RAM and CPU are running on the same clock. The error persists when running the RAM at it's native clock too.
I'm running Catalyst 4.11 and Bios Information says 113-95702-100.
The BIOS of the MB has not been flashed by me - as out-of-the-box.
    Nvidia drivers version 5.10.
No overclocking of any sort of any device.
I will be running the full monty in Memtest x86 over night, but the RAM DIMM is spanking new and has been handeled with the utmost caution. The first five tests returned nothing wrong.
Another peculiar hick-up is that sometimes after the lock-up and after I've pressed the reset button the BIOS seems to take forever to detect the IDE devices. If I power off and on again, the IDE detection happens in a snap. Very, very strange.. .
Edit: I have a sneaking suspicion that it gets worse until I power off/on - after that it will take a longer time for the error to return. I haven't verified this empirically, but I have a hunch.. .
I really hope there's someone with helpful insight to this problem out there!
    Thank you for your time.

Woops. Seems like I don't have access rights to the last link.
It seems like downflashing to B30 is the only way to go for me as I'm having *major* stability issues, even with no overclocking.
Heck - I even had to reset and reboot the machine when trying to write this post just now!
I must say I've never experienced such outrageous instability with any of my other MSI MBs before.. . Not from any other make for that matter. This is just incredible.
I'll flash it tomorrow (if I can find a damned floppy somewhere). For now I really have to work.
    Fingers crossed!
    Thanks again for great input!

  • HTC Incredible reboot fix that works and does NOT require hard reset

Like many of you unfortunate souls out there I have had my HTC Incredible go into a rebooting loop over the last month or so. The following recounts some observations and and a solution which appears to work.
First off, my son and I both have the same phone and software versions and apps. He does NOT get email on his phone because he does not want to. I do. His phone has NEVER rebooted. Mine has done so numerous times. My business partner also has the identical phone and software version, lives within 200 yards of me,  and uses the email and has had numerous reboots and has gotten them even sooner than I saw them at first. My partner and I have set up email attachments and downloads to go to the SD card. So much for background info. Here is what I did to fix the problem followed by some other observations:
Open up the case of the phone and remove the battery
Remove the SD card from the phone.
Put it into an adapter that allows you to access files directly on your computer. In my case this was a Windows PC running Windows 7.
Mount the SD card in your computer and open up the browser to see the files on the SD card.
Look for a folder called ".Mail"
If your phone is like mine you will see hundreds of files, some of zero length. This was even though I had deleted most of the emails I received on my phone.
Proceed to directly delete any of the zero length files. For that matter, you may have other files like jpg's laying around of uncertain origin. I got rid of these and other strange files that seemed attached to no documents at all.
Remove the SD card and reinsert into your phone. Put the battery back in and the cover on then restart the phone. Your phone should run properly and you should not see any negative consequences from the files you deleted previously.
Some other observations relevant to this solution that bolsters my theory that this problem has something to do with the email application and also a problem with file system corruption on the SD card as a consequence of it.
I had previously seen the email application put some mail from a different account I was using into my main account. The files could not be deleted and even trying to do so would cause the mail app to force close.
My son has never seen the problem despite being in the same environment with the same phone and software. Relevant difference to me was that he was NOT using email and I was.
The email app clearly has bugs if it is leaving behind hundreds of files even if you delete the emails. Why? As a software engineer my first instinct would be to look to see if the file system locks were properly synchronized when the email app is writing to the flash file system. I am not conversant in Android OS programming nor the app code itself so this is speculative on my part. I would also look for a timeout on reboots if file system enumerations take too long. Lots of files on a system might trigger a premature timeout and reboot. Once again, this is speculative on my part but I sure wish I had the code to debug this myself.
These issues seem to coincide with a rapid rise in network traffic most likely because of the iPad 2/iPhone support by Verizon. I wonder if this additional traffic load on the network is opening up timing holes in the software because of backoff and retry intervals for certain apps. Once again I suspect the email app especially because it is vulnerable to network traffic issues as it tries to get email account updates.
I could be wrong about my theory as to why the problem is happening. My solution seems to work. As far as pulling the battery and putting it near your AC in the car, that did NOT work for me at all. Leaving the phone out of its protective case also had no effect. Only screwing with the files on the SD card mattered.
    I hope this helps.

This problem has been seen for MONTHS now by people besides myself. My business partner is about to put a bullet in his phone because this has been happening for far longer than mine. I have little confidence in a fix anytime soon because this problem has been persistent for some time and there is a lot of denial in the field by Verizon. Verizon has to depend on HTC and Google besides themselves for fixes. How much would you like to wager on how this business relationship is working out? The first step in any solution is for a company to take some responsibility for it and so far no company has.

  • My humble opinion about Droid X vs Droid Incredible

I had a chance to try out a Droid Incredibile for three days. I prefer the Droid X for several reasons:
On the X I can place any phone contact on any screen and use either a widget or an apps. With the Incredible you are limited to "favorites" only and limited to nine. I see no way to set up another "favorite" on another screen..
You are limited to what widgets you can set up on your Incredible. It must be a completely blank screen or else such widgets as FM radio will not go on.
Sadly, the Incredible does not have Swype, which I use all the time on my X.
You can not set up vibration only for notifications.  You can only wake up your Incredible by tapping the power button, with the Droid, you can also tap the home button to wake it up.
Finally, On the X, if you are on the very left screen and wish to go to the very right screen, you swipe and tap on the three buttons and your there. On the Incredible, you must swipe the whole way.
None of these are very big deals, I grant you. But they are minor irritants
Oh, don't get me wrong, there are things I wish the X could do like the Incredible. For example, the lock bar is so much easier on the Incredible to open up. The manner in which you delete a widget/apps from the screen is so much more easier on the Incredible than on the X.
As far as bars, and this IS a big deal. With the X I get 3g and four bars at home. with the Incredible, I get 3g and only two bars. Gladly, it doesn't interfere with calling or talking.

You can place shortcuts on any screen to about anything, including a contact. You don't have to use the Favorites widget.
Only a few widgets are full screen size. Some of them offer two different sizes.
You can get the Swype beta for Incredible.
Vibration only for notifications: Goto Volume in Sound Settings and turn the volume all the way down for notifications. Make sure the Vibrate option is on.
Wake up button: Correct, and I like that way. The "home button" or any other front button is too easily pressed while in a holdster or pocket.
Moving to another screen: Pinch zoom any home screen to see minature versions of all screens to pick from.
Besides the above, is there anything else you like better on the X? How does the camera and camcorder operation compare? And the resulting photos/video? Does the size of the screen really make a difference? I'm asking because I just got the Incredible, but have 30 days to switch to the X if I want.

  • Is there a way to put a lock on an airbook

Is there is a way to put a laptop lock on a macbook air 13 inch?

There's nothing to prevent ANY theft from a determined thief.  As a friend who installs security will testify.
Encypt private data ON the macbook
secondly buy theft/ accident / loss insurance which is very cheap
If you want real security get a Zero Haliburton case and a tungsten carbine lock for same.  Nothing short of incredible brute force will get it open.
They do make professional laptop cases that CANNOT BE cut, cannot be torched, cannot be hammered into.
Made of kevlar, stainless mesh and laminate, but those cases cost $2500

  • Clock problems Incredible 2

my HTC Droid Incredible 2 has developed clock problems this past week.
-when I tap the clock part of the clock and weather widget nothing happens.
-tapping on the weather part of the clock and weather widget works like it should.
-the lock screen shows that my alarm is set for my weekday alarm, but the alarm never goes off.
-when I open the app drawer there is no clock or alarm clock icon.
-when I press the search icon on the Home screen and type C the only applications shown are Calculator & Calendar.
Anybody have any idea what is going on and how I can get the clock / alarm clock function to work again?
    Thanks,
    Gary

my HTC Droid Incredible 2 has developed clock problems AGAIN.

    I tried your suggestion:
-when I go to settings>applications>manage applications>clock the button to forceclose, clear data, clear cache are all grayed out and can't be pushed.
    Is this a known problem?
Is there any date when it might be fixed?
Is there any less drastic way to solve this problem besides a factory reset?
The factory reset worked, but I really don't want to continually have to do that.
    Thanks,

  • Locking "Buttons"

Love my Droid Incredible, the only issue I have is when taking/viewing photos. Is there a way to lock the "buttons" so they don't get touched? It's hard not to press the volume button or touch the menu buttons when handling the phone, kicking me out of the camera program.
    Thanks!

I agree with dabubbakin, I have a case on my device as well and it shields my buttons on the side of device, so I won't accidentally press the wrong button, but if you would not like to purchase the case, then you can always look in the Android Market to see if there is an app that fits your needs. Hope this helps!

  • HTC Incredible 4g LTE

Excuse me, but where is the discussion forum for the HTC Droid Incredible 4g LTE?  I upgraded to this phone back in June.  Is there no one buying this phone?  I know there's basically no community development on it, because the ******** at Verizon Wireless re-locked the bootloader, even though they initially allowed it to be unlocked.  What gives?  Does no one care about this phone?
I feel like Verizon Wireless has a severe lemon on their hands with this phone.  Granted, spec-wise, it's not that horrible, but there are definitely issues with this handset.  Where the heck is the community for this phone?  I feel very alone having chosen this phone as my upgrade to the original HTC Incredible...

  • HTC Incredible Reboot Problem - Must All Be In My Mind

Took my malfunctioning HTC Incredible to V-Experience Store for return.  It had previously been declared DOA by Verizon Customer Service and identified as part of a bad batch of HTC I's on the market.....
Store Rep tried his hardest to (1) tell me that my malfunction / constant rebooting is all due to the apps I downloaded from the Market (2) the Verizon Customer Service reps don't really know what they are talking about and are too quick to declare a phone DOA (3) there are no bad Incredibles out there - just bad apps and users that don't manage them correctly.
Wow!  Never thought that the 5-8 reboots a day which then locks out my touch screen was ultimately my fault.  Also didn't realize  that the HTC Incredible has no reboot problem that couldn't be solved by resetting it and (based on the Rep's logic), never loading another app on the phone.
A couple of points - Verizon needs to figure out the message regarding the well documented HTC I reboot problem and stay on it.  Second - Every time I step into a Verizon Experience store my opinion of Verizon drops.

I hear you man I am on my FOURTH Incredible.  The onyl positive is that I have not had a reboot in 3 days which is a record for me.

  • Decision - Fascinate vs Incredible

    Hello All,
I need some help making a decision.....
I currently have an Eris and while I loved it when I first got it in Nov 09 I can no longer say that I do...
It's been repIaced once and I won't bore you with all the issues I have with this phone...
I am due for an upgrade and cannot decide between the Fascinate or the Incredible.
A friend has the Epic with Sprint (their version of Fascinate) and it was pretty sweet and considering the issues I am having with my Eris I am not feeling the warm and fuzzies from HTC.
Any and all feedback would be very much appreciated..
    Thanks!!

Hi, I currently got a new Droid and I understand your dilemma.  I knew I didn't want the Incredible for me the choice was between the X and the Fascinate.  I chose the X and I am very happy with that choice.  First and foremost the differences between the size of the 2 devices you contemplating is huge.  You should definitely go to a store and hold them.  The camera on the Fascinate is only a 5mp while the Incredible has an 8mp, but the screen on the Fascinate is huge.  I went with the X to get both an 8mp camera and the larger screen.  Also, if you do go to the store to check out the Fascinate you will want to play around with it a little.  While it is customizable it has a lock with Bing as the default search engine and you will need to download the Google navigator app as it does not come stock on the phone.
I chose the Droid 2 for my husband, which is also a Motorola phone, because he needs a physical keyboard.  We are both coming from BlackBerry and we both love our phones.  My niece has the Incredible and side by side hers is still awesome

  • Incredible 2 touchscreen issues make phone unusable

The usability of my touchscreen is very intermittent.  Sometimes it's unresponsive along one side or other, sometimes both sides.  Now the home button rarely works and often the entire screen freezes up so that I have to lock and unlock my phone, sometimes repeatedly to get anything to work.  Sometimes the phone does these "phantom" touches and opens the camera and takes pictures, types words and numbers for me while I try to text, declines calls, etc.  I can't boot my phone into safe mode, even though I hold the volume down button once the HTC screen comes up after a reboot.  The phone just boots as normal.  I've already done a factory reset and it didn't fix the issue.
My phone is in great shape, not a scratch (or screen protector) on it.  My account is due in about a month for a device upgrade, but the only reason I'd consider upgrading the device is because of this issue. '
<rant>I don't want a bigger phone so that leaves the Incredible LTE or RazrM.  Really, I'd like to keep this phone until the trend to bigger and bigger phones reverses and people see the simplicity in letting your phone be a phone in an sleek form factor and not going to the phablet world. </rant>

        Hey AJS_OR!
We accept rants in all shapes and sizes around here so I'm extremely glad you posted. Based on your description of the issues at hand, it seems like there are quite a few things going on. Getting your phone into safe mode would be our best bet so as to isolate the issue to the device or potentially an application. May I ask if you tried this directly after running a factory reset (I noted that you said it won't process properly the first time you tried)? If you can try one final reset and then safe mode before loading your information this may help http://vz.to/ruJiUa .
Also, does your device have an extended warranty through insurance? If necessary, we'd love to get you a replacement before your upgrade comes up. And speaking of upgrade, if you're not too awful fond of large phones, you can view all our devices and their specifications at http://bit.ly/nD0WuY .

  • Droid Incredible Power button

This has probably asked before. If it has then I apologize. I have the Droid Incredible. It is by far the best phone I have ever had. This is the second HTC phone I have owned. My question is, is there any way to NOT have to push the power button on the top of the phone top get the phone to wake up. This is, simply put, a pain the the derriere. All I want to do is one of these options. Touch the screen, touch a menu button or the optical button. I do not want to touch the power button or the volume control buttons. I have looked on Phandroid forums and tried a variety of screen lock features, but all they do is address the screen swipe. They don't address the power button issue. Can someone help?

@walkinaz08, check out these two applications in the market...
    Proximity Screen Off
    https://market.android.com/details?id=com.itsme4ucz.screenoff&feature=search_result
    Tap Tap App
    https://market.android.com/details?id=net.maicas.android.wsleep&feature=search_result
Both seem to use the proximity sensor instead of a power button. I personally have not tried them, but think that this is what you are looking for...
    Hope this helps!

  • Incredible 2 won't power off

When I hold down the Power/Lock button the Incredible, the screen goes blank, but I do not get the option to Power Off the phone. Am I missing a setting somewhere?
    Thanks.
(New to Incredible 2 but previous owner of T-Moble's G2).

OK, now I found the solution: I actually have to first Unlock the phone before holding down the power button. I guess I find it counterintutive that I can't just Power Off directly when the phone hasn't been used for awhile.
