Incremental backup freezes / won't work

I have got a problem with the backup-function. After making a (time-consuming) full back-up, I'd like to make a incremental backup. The first steps are the same. At a certain moment, i get the opportunity to choose the incremental one. Therefore i locate the .tly file. When i want to proceed, PSE11 freezes.
Is this a common problem, and (more interesting) is there a way to solve this?
Catalogue contains a 42.000 photo 's.
System: E8400 with 4GB RAM
backup-medium: external drive, connected with e-sata
OS: Windows 7

Don’t use the same folder, make a new one. Once you have a full back up you can make incremental back ups but you need to follow a set routine. It’s not very intuitive.
Start by creating a new folder or label a new CD/DVD Disk - it’s best to use dates e.g. “PSE11 incr backup 20120610”
Press Ctrl+B and check Incremental, then click Next
Highlight your drive containing the last backup and click the bottom Browse button (previous back up file) then navigate to the TLY file and click open.
Click the Browse button above and navigate to your new folder “PSE11 inc backup 20120610”
Click Done.
If your full backup originally contained 500 images, the incremental backup will only contain changes since the last backup e.g. files B000501.jpg, B000502.jpg etc
If you ever have to do a complete restore you start with the TLY file from the latest incremental backup. The program automatically recognizes the number of incremental steps and you will be prompted to insert a disc or navigate to the appropriate drive.
Incremental backup’s are obviously much quicker to write to disk but I recommend that you periodically perform another  full backup and delete any earlier backups.

  • HTC DNA Backup Assistant won't work since 1/1/13

HELP!  No matter what we've done - hard reset and GOT A BRAND NEW HTC DNA - still backup assistant won't work since 1/1/13.  This is NOT anything to do with Facebook.
This all started with that same 1/1/13 error that so many of you got.  The tech also had me clear the contact storage.  That worked for the error.  But since then I don't have contacts.  I have talked to at least 7 Verizon techs, one HTC tech, then spent 2.5 hours in the Verizon store today.  Ended up with a brand new HTC DNA (mine was only one week old) for free.. and we immediately tried to sync to Backup ASsistant and it still won't work on the new phone.  I have 521 contacts stored online in My Verizon Backup Assistant and they will not, no matter what we try, sync to my phone.  So frustrated.  Anyone else experiencing this?
    ~Tami

After all my hell- after so many calls and trips to Verizon...as well as getting a new phone..... guess what FINALLY worked:
    http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-faqs/10144-migrating-contacts-phone-backup-assistant-google-contacts.html
Now I finally see ALL my contacts in "people" when I select my phone icon and people.  But now I'm trying to test it out by composing a new text message and all these people aren't showing up there.  Does it just take a lot of time!?!?  Since I did import 524 contacts from BUA to Google?... will it just take time for these contacts to be available for me to text!?!?  HELP.. (again).

  • Ipod touch g2 - backup freezes but sync works

I bought a new g2 touch, I have several screens filled (4/5) so it'd be long to list all of them. It was restored a few days ago for unrelated, so I'd rather not do this right away.. But I've rebooted/reset everything and tried another cable/port to make sure. When I sync it goes pretty slow but when it goes to the backup stage or "processing backup" - pre-screen it freezes completely. I can cancell it and sync later without backup but obviously I want a backup.
I've removed all backup data in itunes and tried again but nada.. I understand some apps like facebook would cause it to go slow but this is 10-15mins and no progress. I've also deleted sync data (not sure if good idea. but already done).
I can return it within next 5-6 days or try restore but I wanna make sure I've exausted all my options first. I'd really appreciate some ideas asap
    Thank you,
    Geo

long story short. I guess my problem is solved... But ****, it takes too long to sync what amounts to maybee 200mb of actual data (cause tunes/movies/podcasts aren't synced automatically). pain in the butt to be honest, I wish this was a faster process even after you start actually using programs

  • Phone works for a bit, upon restart, phone freezes, won't work for hours.

    Hi All,
First off, let me say that I switched from Verizon to Cingular just to get the iPhone...thats how much I love Apple.
I brought the phone home from UPS and activated it without any hitch, went right through, began working perfectly...I was so happy. Then I turned the device off entirely by holding down the sleep button for a few seconds and then sliding to power off.
Then I powered it back on. It showed the home icons, and no matter what icons I tapped, nothing happened, the home button did nothing, and the signal in the upper left said "Searching..." I get 4 bars here from what I had seen before. Then I reset the phone with the Home + Sleep buttons and it reset, came back to the home screen, and again, no icons I clicked on worked...it stayed at the home screen.
I plugged it in, iTunes opened, recognized the phone, said 'Syncing', and did nothing whatsoever. It sat there for 15 minutes, never synced. I clicked cancel. Then I did a restore. It powered off the phone, turned it back on, and successfully restored the phone.
It was just like before...said "Searching" and none of the buttons, Calendar, iPod, anything were clickable. Nothing happens.
So I called Apple. The guy sounded clueless, sugessting what I had already tried, and then said hmmm...sounds like it needs repair. Needless to say the closest Apple store is 5 hours away and they can't get me a new one til Monday or Tuesday of next week.
So I left the phone in the box for a few hours, turned it back on for laughs, and it began working perfectly again. I synced it, used it for about 15 minutes, and turned it off. Turned it back on, and began saying 'Searching...' like before and it froze up--no pushable buttons.
So I left it for a few hours.
That gets to tonight, I turn it back on, its usable again.
I don't know what the deal is or if there is anything I can do or if anyone is having the same issues. My brother has one, it works flawlessly. It's so frustrating to switch carriers, pay $640 for something that does this.
Any help at this point would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking time to read this and reply.
    Nick

Just noticed...I had always waited a couple hours...but it seems the minimum time before it will let me use the phone isn't a couple hours, but 15 minutes. If I turn it on before that time has passed, the buttons/icons don't work and it says 'Searching...'.
If I wait until 15 minutes has passed, then it works fine. Until I restart/turn it off. Then the freezing and the 15 minute wait start.

  • How do incremental backups work in Photoshop Elements?

I'm trying to figure out INCREMENTAL backups in Photoshop Elements.  I've performed an INITIAL backup on a Seagate Backup Plus external drive.  Now when I try to perform an INCREMENTAL backup to the same folder, I get this warning:  "! A backup already exists in that folder, do you want to overwrite it?"  When I say no, it won't let me save the INCREMENTAL back up in the same folder.  Is "yes" the correct answer?  If so, please explain how this works.  I want to make sure I don't lose anything in the initial backup.

Once you have a full backup you can make incremental backups in future which will be much quicker.

  • My front Facing camera just won't work It freezes everytime

My front Facing camera just won't work It freezes everytime

Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke.  If that's the case, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • Time Machine won't do incremental backups after I restored my computer

I am using a macbook (2010 version) and operating Lion.  I had a problem with my Macbook where it wouldn't log on, even in safe mode, so I restored it using Timemachine.  Now that everything is back up and running well I want to keep backing up.  But Time Machine now says that there is not eneough space on the backup disk as it wants to back up the whole computer alongside the exisitng back up.  In short it will no longer do incremental backups on top of what has already been backed up.  I don't want to wipe my backup disk for fear that something might go wrong again and I may want to go back to a version earlier than the one I restored.  Is there anyway of getting round this problem?  It seems like a fairly serious problem.
    I would appreciate any help.

When you erased the disk, it got a new UUID (Universally Unique IDentifier), which is treated like a different drive, and Time Machine will back it up in it's entirety.
Did you do a full system restore, starting from the Recovery HD?  If so, that should have left a "trail" so Time Machine should have automatically "associated" the restored disk with the existing backups.
If you did it "piecemeal," though, via the "Star Wars" display, it won't (that doesn't leave the trail for TM to figure out what happened).
You might be able to get it to do the association manually.  See #B6 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
But Linc is right;  you apparently need a larger TM drive.  See #1 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

Well, yes, data does get corrupted sometimes.
The trick is finding what data.
By 'cleaned' are you therefor meaning that the drive has been erased and the system re-installed?
Because that's the quickest way to deal with such a situation.
Back up the system first of course,
Add back 3rd party apps one at a time in case one of them is causing the problem.

Okay, we'll try the technique from the following post. Be sure to be logged in to your usual user account when doing so. (Otherwise you'll be editing the wrong set of HKEY_CURRENT_USER keys.)
Re: How do I turn off the compatibility mode for ITunes.
Does that clear up the compatibility message?

A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure.

Script does everything perfect except for the backup not being incremental/differential - it just creates a different folder each iteration that it puts the backup into.
I would appreciate if someone could go through and let me know what we might be doing wrong - why we are not able to get this job to be incremental/differential.
    Thanks in advance.

Hre are all of the options for Windows Backup:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee706670.aspx
If you can find an incremental backup naywhere in the options then I will admit I have missed something.
The old Windows Backup, pre-2008, could do incremental backups.  The newer backup system is minimal and serves different purposes.
The question about how to use a subsystem of Windows is NOT a scripting question.  It is a "how-to" for a Windows component.
If you do not understand the scrip tyou posted then I recommend finding someone with sufficient understanding of Windows and the new backup Cmdlets to help you top understand how they work.
Here is the Microsoft description of Windows Server Backup:
Windows Server Backup consists of a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in, command-line tools, and Windows PowerShell cmdlets that provide a complete solution for your day-to-day backup and recovery needs. You can use Windows Server Backup to back
up a full server (all volumes), selected volumes, the system state, or specific files or folders—and to create a backup that you can use for bare metal recovery. You can recover volumes, folders, files, certain applications, and the system state. And, in case
of disasters like hard disk failures, you can perform a bare metal recovery. (To do this, you will need a backup of the full server or just the volumes that contain operating system files, and the Windows Recovery Environment—this will restore your complete
system onto your old system or a new hard disk.)
You can use Windows Server Backup to create and manage backups for the local computer or a remote computer. And, you can schedule backups to run automatically.
Windows Server Backup is intended for use by everyone who needs a basic backup solution—from small business to large enterprises—but is even suited for smaller organizations or individuals who are not IT professionals.
It specifically states that only a full server or selected file, device backup is possible.  There is no statement of incremental backup.  Windows Server backup is intended for server recovery.
    If you type "help Set-WBVssBackupOptions
-full" you will see that there are only two options "full" and "copy".
Please post your issues in the WS2008 or the WS2012 forum to get more information on how the Windows Server backup service works.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • IMac G5 iSight freezes on startup - CDs won't work

    Hi everyone.
My iMac G5 iSight is freezing up on startup. It was running slowly and erratically, so I restarted it - ever since it has failed to start up.
It gets though the basic hardware check and gets to a point where there is the big apple logo and the circular pulsing thing that suggests it is loading - however it never gets any further.
I tried loading with a CD holding the c key -but that won't work. The CD drive revs up, but it gets stuck at the same location.
I've zapped the PRAM several times (twice each). No effect.
I've disconnected the keyboard and all peripherals.
I've removed the memory module I added 2 years ago.
So, I'm stuck. It doesn't look like complete hardware failure - or it wouldn't get as far is it does.
Is there any other way to force a reset of some kind that will allow me to boot from a CD?
    Thanks in Advance.

Check the Repair extension programs and look for your number. Whether you qualify also depends on how old your computer is. The extension cuts off three years after the original purchase date, but they have been known to make exceptions.
