InD CS6 doc won't print or export to PDF

Hi, I'm having a problem with my document:
304 pages
Using master frames and master page items (page numbers and running heads, about 25 master spreads in all)
6 or so pages suddenly had an enormous pasteboard and the text on these pages disappeared (but did not reflow onto the next available page)
I deleted these affected pages, the text automatically reflowed and I added in new pages at the end of the doc to accommodate the overset text.
I also deleted the master pages that were assigned to the 6 affected pages and recreated them
The Indesign doc looks "fixed" but won't print or PDF. The error message is here:
I sent the file to a colleague and it appeared to work fine on her computer.
I also copied all the text that was in linked text frames (about 280 pages worth) and copied it into a new document. The new document also has master text frames but no other master page items. The new doc also won't print or PDF.
Sending the file to my colleague is a work-around that will do for today but I need the file to behave before I send it to the printer.
Any help?
Thanks!

Yup, tried that
I have found a bit of a work around: I PDF'd the first half with no problem, then I tried to PDF the second half - this failed.
Then I PDF'd chapter by chapter until I found that chapter 12 was giving the error message, so I copied and pasted the chapter into a new document and PDF'd that.
The I combined the PDFs into one document in Acrobat.
It's a solution of sorts but still doesn't completely solve the problem of the original working file.
Thanks for the help! Happy holidays!

  • Indesign CS6 8.0.1. crashes when exporting a PDF

I am having a problem with Indesign CS6 8.0.1. When exporting a PDF Indesign crashes everytime. Here is the crash report http://pastebin.com/qYu9cWwP
    I am on a mac running 10.7.5
This happens with every file I try to export every time.

I don't know what it means, but the crashed thread is making the same call: 511 com.adobe.InDesign.Print            0x17bf6703 GetPlugIn + 497427 more than 500 times. Are you exporting to PDF, or printing?

  • Font is smaller when I print or export to PDF

    Dear all,
I have a strange problem when I try to print or export to pdf my .pages document.
I use FontAwesome.otf in order to have some nice icons but when I print the document this icons are smaller then the document.
I also try to make them bigger but they get reduce anyway.
    Screenshot from the pages document
Screenshot from the printed or exported pdf
Any suggestion is more then welcome, thank you!

To install fontawesome you simply download the kit from this link. Once you unzipped the file you will find the .otf font inside the folder 'font'. Then simply drag and drop the font inside your fontbook.
To insert an icon in pages you simply copy and paste it from the cheatsheet. Remember to change the font to FontAwesome in the Format > Text panel otherwise you would not see the character.
    Hope it helps!

Whenever I print or export to PDF a document with superscripts or subscripts, it deletes them.
I'm doing a chemistry degree so as you can imagine, there are a lot of missing superscripts or subscripts through my text!
I just tried updating my iWork suite to newest version but the problem still persists.

This bug has been around probably since the beginning of Pages 5. Here's one such thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5854946.
With regard to using MathType with tables in Pages 5+, there's another Pages bug that affects that. Please read our 2 articles about using MathType with Pages (and Keynote, and Numbers):

  • Adobe docs won't print grayscale boxes 15% on HP5550 color laserjet

HP support says it's an Adobe issue because the printer WILL PRINT 5% grey if you print a pdf from Preview
    • Firmware and drivers have been updated.
    • We can print Word docs with 5% grey boxes but we cannot print INDD, Illustrator or PDFs with 5% grey boxes.
    • We work in INDD 3 and INDD 4.
    • The greys printed fine on our old HP8550N Color laserjet printer.
Does ANYONE know how to fix this?
This makes NO sense to me...all of our publications have light grey sidebars that are dropping out when we print.

My copy of Word is ancient, but as Anne Marie suggests I don't think there is a CMYK or Grayscale space in Word. Also, ID doesn't have a grayscale space, there's RGB, CMYK, and Lab—you can spec 0|0|0|15 CMYK but not 15% grayscale. So you could imitate Word and work with RGB colors in ID, or you could export your PDF to an RGB destination space, which would convert CMYK black values to RGB.

  • Some items on page won't print - even as a pdf!

I am a bit of a newbie on Indesign (much better on Photoshop) and this phenomenom is driving me nuts.  It has never happened before.
I have a two page CMYK document.
Some of the graphics and some of the text (modified with basic feather, transparency and angle) steadfastly refuses to print, either to our laser printer or even to pdf.
One page prints perfect, the other only partially prints.  Both have images and text.
    Any thoughts?

That should not have solved a problem of objects not printing, so there's something else going on. Was this restricted to a single document, or happening with many files? If one doc, see Remove minor corruption by exporting, if many, see Replace Your Preferences

  • Disable printing when exporting to PDF from Indesign

Hi  I need to create a T&C form which will be emailed out to clients, the sales team have requested that this should be readable but not printable as a PDF in a small step in saving the environment. I actually achieved this last week and now for the life of me cannot work out how to do it again. Would anyone be able to help?  Many thanks, Claire
NB: unchecking the 'Print Layer' in the Layer Options box does not work, sadly neither does ticking the 'Nonprinting' option in the Attributes window. I have a feeling it was something in the export dialog box but definitely not a security ermissions option as the PDF I created last week doesn't require a password and yet won't print.

If you're hoping to prevent a PDF document from printing with sneak-around backdoors, you'll be disappointed.
Anyone who breaks an expensive scanner platen glass by placing or dropping a CRT monitor on it, when following Eugene's illustrated example, might be permanently dissuaded. Making a screen shot with the computer's own tools, or a camera's phone is easier and safer.
If your hope is simply to always prompt the user to reconsider killing trees needlessly, it may be possible to intercept a print request made from the Acrobat display software in use at the time (Acrobat, Reader, Web browser window, Mac Preview, etc.) and display an alert to think about printing before proceeding. If this kind of print request can't be intercepted, you could consider creating a button in the document labeled "Print," but which displays an alert and gives the option to proceed or cancel. Perhaps there a script solution for what you need.
If your hope is to make it as difficult as possible for someone to print a PDF, consider converting text to outlines and/or incorporating a patterned background behind text, to disable easy Optical Character Recognition, and to "contaminate" graphics. However, a clever Photoshop user might be able to minimize the graphic pattern.
NOTE: Enabling Acrobat's security to disable screen readers does not disable the ability to select and highlight on-screen text, but it does prevent copying the text to the clipboard.

  • Indesign ME CS6: Punctuation marks change direction when exporting to PDF

When exporting to PDF (for press) -  some punctuation marks (! & ") beahve as if they're "left -> right" (in the PDF only!) instead of "right->left" - as they appear in the open file.

If I understand this correctly, then before you opened a PC-sourced INDD, this never happened? And now it happens with all new files? Was that PC-sourced InDesign file from an English non-ME install of ID?
If doing so is not a big deal for you, I would almost want to suggest the "Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure" approach coined by Sigourney Weaver's character in Aliens. I.e. something happened to your ME install by simply opening up a non-ME file, and clearing prefs didn't fix it, so I'd be ready to uninstall, run the Adobe Clean tool, and reinstall.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
I hope that I'm wrong, and that there is some kind of preference that can be tweaked to get this to work correctly. I'd start by removing Font Explorer X entirely. It's also worth trying to make a new user in OS X and seeing if a fresh user experiences the same issue.

  • InDesign docs won't print on Epson CX 6600

Interesting problem. Computer is a "basketball" iMac 17" LCD G4 with OSX 10.3.9. Tried to print to an Epson CX6600 multifunction printer/scanner/copier, after the CX5200 died. Sending the 6600 any doc done in InDesign stalls to "Jobs Stopped" after spooling to the printer.
The 6600 prints fine from most every other app on my computer (MSWord, Internet browsers, Appleworks, PDFs, etc.) It even prints fine from the other parts of the Adobe CS suite, such as Photoshop, but not InDesign or Illustrator. All my InDesign docs printed fine on the previous CX5200, which was plug & play from the moment we brought it home. The same InDesign docs also print fine on our workhorse B/W HP printers, but we need to print in color now. We have added nothing new in the way of fonts, etc. Plus we've run Printer Setup Repair and other fix programs to insure all permissions were OK. One place on the Adobe site says it is basically a known problem with Illustrator and In Design on this Epson and several other models, and all they offer for the "fix" is to "make sure you print from the Adobe pull down file menu". Does that come under "duh?" or am I seriously missing something? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks
Also, Any suggestions on a good trouble-free color printer? Perhaps laser this time? Tried a Xerox 6120 and had nothing but continuous problems. Xerox tried but was of little or no help, but they did replace three of them before we threw in the towel. Thanks again!

It seems to be related to your printer, maybe it doesn't have a Postscript emulator. Test print a pdf to it.
Have you updated your printer drivers, Apple regularly has new downloads in its software support pages, and also been to Canon's website to see if there are any reported issues?

  • Photoshop CS6 Cloud won't print?

Hello, I've been using photoshop for over 10 years now. I just signed up for the latest cloud version and created my first file and I can't get it to print. The first time I go to the file menu the print option is available but when I click on it, nothing happens. If I look in the file menu a second time, the print option is greyed out.
I can close the file and re-open and the exact same thing happens. I've also tried closing Photoshop altogether and it's the same story.
I'm on Windows XP by the way. Anyone else having this problem?

It's not recognizing a default printer. Go into your control panel to your printers option and set Adobe PDF as the default. Try opening Photoshop and see if opens a dialog box. You can go back and set your regular printer as default if that works. For some reason it just doesn't see it. I've had that problem with both CS5 and 6

  • Indesign CS6 for windows 7 crashes when exporting interactive PDF (Print PDFs fine)

Any advice guys this is driving me nuts - was working up until a few weeks ago and after system rebuild from crash no longer working?

Hi Guys, thanks for the advice. I am assuming you disable and extension through the Extension Manager? The problem is its not listed under indesign - when I select Indesign and look at all the plugins they are all authored by adobe? Extensis is listed under my About Plugins Directory and seems to be working fine. I did find a comment on a blog somewhere about checking, unchecking or toggling the 'create tagged PDF' checkbox which occasionally works. Indesign often completes the PDF file then crashes and after I have force quit Indesign the PDF works fine once the OS has unlocked it from being written. Any other ideas? I have re installed indesign and suitcase - no luck. Its couldn't be an Acrobat Problem could it? Its seems to write the PDF and then hang for a while, then say it cannot save "filename".
    Thanks again for your time

  • InDesign CS6 keeps crashing when trying to export to PDF

I never had an issue with this before, but now my InDesign is crashing every time I try to export to a PDF. The document is 22 pages long. I updated an older version that I had no problem with exporting to a PDF. Now I can't even take the older InDesign doc and make into a PDF. It just keeps quitting every time I try to export it. What could have triggered this issue and how can I fix it?

  • GRC 10 Print Version -Export to PDF in User Interface

    Hi Experts ,
There is a functionality for getting pdf files generated for most of the reports in GRC 10 user interface elements .but in all the screens while generating the pdf via print version we are getting communication failure  as follows :
Print Version Communication Failure : RFC Destination SALV_WD_EXPORT_PDF does not exist.
What could be the reason, export to MS excel worked fine . We are on NW 7.02 SP08 and GRC SP05.
    Cheers ,
    Dev. Parab

    Dear Parab,
This is a general requirement. The reason why you are getting the communication failure error  is because the print version for generating ABAP ALV is not set-up.
The flow is : The system (GRC here)uses the RFC connection SALV_WD_EXPORT_PDF to call a portal service >the portal service uses Adobe Document Services>the system uses RFC to return the PDF document to the WD ABAP ALV
    and displays the document.
For your NW version and SP level , please implement SNOTE  1413938 - WD ABAP ALV -creating print version.
The  Web Service Destination for Adobe Document Services (in SAP NetWeaver
Administrator) needs to be set-up as explained in note.
Also see  IMG > SAP Netweaver >AS> Setup Printing for Web Dynpro ABAP ALV .

  • Safari won't save or export a pdf file which otherwise displays correctly.

I can download a pdf item (form) and safari displays it correctly. however, if I try to save it or export it as a pdf, the resultant file is empty. Chrome works just fine. This is not unique to just one downloaded pdf file.

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
              Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
              Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.
