Indd file crashed and never opened in cs6
I worked at last night and when i was designing the last page,
ID suddenly broken and I got a window error message.'Objectmodel.dll' error...
but i didn't worried about it, bcz i saved file safely a hour ago before error comes out,
so opened it, surely, ID asked about auto recovery, but i canceled,....
and...
i was surprised bcz even though it was saved a hour ago, it also crashed!
Auto recovery file is also samely crashed....
I tried many things such as installing new cs6 at my sister's computer, and cs6 on my another computer of my company,
and I found another indd file is smoothly opened, and ID is so normal...
but only this file never open again... constantly loading indicator moving....
this situation is started when it loads 36p (all pages 41p)
bcz this file loading is not finished, I can't open this file in every computer that i have..
so I found a way to place all pages on new file on this forum, but i can't , bcz it never open!
I have Macbook air, and also i tried to open it, but in my Macbook,
i installed CC version, so I also can't open it in Macbook...
somebody help me..!
Is there any way to delete from 36p? (bcz i think this page have some ploblem maybe)
or.. another way to fix it?
It sounds like the file is damaged from the crash if it won't open on another computer, but you can try the blind-open export to .idml script here: Adobe Community: InDesign 6 is crashing when attempting to open a particular document. All others are opening OK.

Accidentally changed cache location and the app crashes and never opens
I recently changed the cache location to an external usb and whenever I try to open the app t crashes and gives me an error pop up. I cant change the cache location back to default since I can never open the app, feels like a catch22 situation. A simple reinstallation didn't seem to work. Any suggestions?
Hello: Wait you changed the cache location folder for the spotify desktop spotify app, or changed the location for a system wide cache location? If you did a system wide cache move your probable going to run into all kinds of isssues. Would not it be a smart idea to plug in the USB device that was used in the change of cache location, and then try to launch spotify and see if it loads correct and finds the hacked moved new cache location? What about trying to retrace your steps in how you changed the default cache location, and just reverse the process to move the cache location back to it's default location, using the terminal system folder linking process, and then try to see if spotify will launch properly? I mean your on a Mac is your HD that small? I thought that was one of Apples selling points, larger memory run abilities, and larger HD space for their systems? Does not Mac have something called Time Machine, have your tried that route to fix the lost Cache location folder?

CS5.5 file crashes Flash on opening
Hi,
I've got an iMac and a MacBook Pro both running 10.6.8 and Flash CS5.5.
I've built some files on the iMac using Flash CS5.5, but when I try and open them on the MB Pro the file crashes Flash on opening. The problem for me right now is the iMac is at my office and I'm offsite using the MB Pro. I tried re-installing Flash CS5.5 but that didn't fix the problem. Is there anything I can do to try and debug or figure out why this is happening. Other files and new files are fine in CS5.5 on the MB Pro, just this specific file that I need to work on :-) is crashing.
I'm pasting the Crash Report in here with the hope that someone from Adobe can understand what's going on and tell me the problem / fix for it. It's looking like I'm going to have to leave the site and go back to my office, which is a pain and looks kind of un-professional in my opinion.

1 libSystThanks! I sent some files.
I'm thinking it's related to a font embedded and used dynamically from the Library. I rebuilt one of the .flas a layer at a time and I'm sure it's the embeded font (in the library). There are 2 test .flas 1 with the embedded font and 1 without.
Oddly enough, 1 of the times I was testing a layer at a time the file opened without crashing and then the other 2 real .flas also opened without crashing, but when I quit Flash and tried to open them a again I got the same crash issue and the files wouldn't open.
I haven't tried yet, but I'm going to see if it crashes using a different font. The font is one of Adobe's and used as branded element in the design so I can't really change it for production use, but it would be worth it to test.
Thanks,
Dave -
Virus has changed all the office file format and cant open those file
Hello
Recently I attacked by some new virus which is changed my all the office document files and added a extra extension after the office file extension. If I manually change the infected file extension to orginal file format and try open it shows error message.
Although having System Center Endpoint Protection how could it would be the affected by the virus ?
Now please suggest me how to recover the those files to orginal file format or recover MS office file???
ThanksHi,
Anti-virus solutions are necessary to protect your system but it can never be a 100% secure.
Once Office files are damaged by the viruses, we can't guarantee the files can still be recovered.
Anyway, you can still try the "Open and Repair" feature in Word to repair the file.
Take Word 2013 for example, click FILE -> Open -> Browse to the file location -> Select the document -> Find the "Open" button, click the "Open and Repair" button from the drop list. Check if this can repair the document.

Every time I open a New File from the File Menu and I open it all of my desktop items are in it. What's up with that?
This is configured in Finder preferences under the General icon. You can make some changes to that behavior.

Does any one know how to attach a document from your mail, while you are already in your e-mail, meaning not having to look for your file first and then open the e-mail.
Luis
Good question - and one that a lot of (business) people would like solved!
Your question prompted me to do some research, and I found this workaround posted by Scott Grossberg:
His solution actually addresses a second problem too - how to attach a document when replying to an email message. In your case you may not need to consider the "reply" aspect - but if not right now, it'll come in useful someday!
I've pasted it verbatim - if it works for you (it does for me) then all credit goes to Scott for solving the problem. There's just one thing I'd add to his solution: you will probably want to rename the message, as by default Goodreader gives it the Subject line: Mail with GoodReader attachments.
THE GOODREADER OPTION
1. CREATE the document you want to send.
2. SAVE it to GoodReader (this will require you to buy and install the app).
3. Go to your email and OPEN the email thread to which you want to Reply and attach your file.
4. COMPOSE your Reply.
5. DOUBLE TAP the message.
6. TAP SELECT ALL. This will copy the entire email thread.
7. OPEN GOODREADER on the iPad and go to the file you want to send as part of your Reply.
8. At the bottom of the GoodReader screen you will see an EXPORT icon (it looks like a rectangle with an arrow pointing to the right).
9. TAP the Export button.
10. TAP EMAIL FILE. Depending on your needs, tap either SEND FILE “AS IS” or “FLATTEN ANNOTATIONS.” This will open a compose message screen with the chosen document already attached.
11. TAP in the body of the email screen. TAP PASTE. This will place your composed Reply and the prior email thread into the message.
12. ENTER the Recipients’ names in the TO: field of your message.
13. SEND your email Reply.
The modified version (= when composing a new message rather than a reply):
1 Make sure that the doc you want to attach is saved in GoodReader
2 In the message you are composing, double tap, select all, and then copy.
3 Open GoodReader and select the file you want to attach
4 Select the export button at the bottom of screen
5 Select e-mail file
6 Position cursor in body of the email message, tap and paste. You may want to delete the "sent from GoodReader" text that precedes the attachment.
7 Rename your message (as by default it will be Mail with GoodReader attachments)
8 Add the recipient's address in the To field.
Hope this helps! All thanks to Scott for this workaround. -

For 2 days, firefox just "loads" and never opens. Intermittent.
OK> Yesterday, and today, from time to time, when I try to open Firefox, including Facebook, it just loads and never opens.
This was shortly after I clicked on the new version which Firefox suggested I download. You are experiencing a firefox [[Firefox hangs|hang]]. This could be caused by hyperthreading:
# Right-click the shortcut icon you use to start Firefox.
# Select Properties.
# Select the Compatibility icon.
# Select Run this program in compatibility mode.
# In the drop-down for compatibility mode, select Windows 98/Windows ME.
# Click OK.
# Restart Firefox to see if the hanging has gone away.
This also could be caused by a messy profile. Try running firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] and let us know if that helps. -

Keeping ones .indd files nice and clean
Hi,
I'm curious if there's a way to tell if ones .indd files contain any redundant files from previous imports?
Like in Flash, if I import, say an image, into a .fla file and then delete it again, it's still going to be in the .fla's Library. So over time many people's .fla files tend to blow up in size without them really knowing why. Can anything similar happen in InDesign?
Flash also has a "Save and Compact" function which really seem to trim one's files by a longshot. Does InDesign have anything similar to that as well?
Thanks guys!Allow me to rephrase that one paragraph:
Like in Flash, if I import, say an image, into a .fla file and then delete it from the screen, it's still going to be in the Library. So unless the user explicitly knows about this and goes into the Library to delete this image - it's just going to remain in the file and take up space. Now, I haven't seen anything equivalent of Flash' Library in InDesign, but nevertheless though, can something similar happen in InDesign?
[Jongware] wrote:
Although entirely unrelated, InDesign works more or less the same. While working a document, the program does a 'micro-save' of your edits every few operations -- for example, switching to another page. This way you haven't lost much if the program crashes (apparently they noticed this during development ...). ID can save the edits fast because it only has to append the latest updates to end of the existing file.
To clear the micro-saves from any file, open it as usual and do a Save As.
That is good to know. -
Files/images will not "open with" CS6?
Just in the last two or three weeks, I cannot right click and open images/documents with any of my CS6 products anymore. I have 2 folders: Program Files and Program Files (x86) on my Local Disk. Program Files does not have all the CS6 folders. Program Files (x86) DOES have all the CS6 folders PLUS several CS5 and 5.1 folders.
I would appreciate some suggestions.
Thanks,

Why can't I preview indd files within InDesign's open file dialog box?
Hello all,
It is bad enough that Adobe doesn't add a plugin to preview any Adobe source file within Windows Explorer (well, except for PDF but I think Microsoft did that).
But I find it ridiculous that I cannot preview .indd source files inside InDesign's Open File dialog box. It just states, "No preview available". I am sure this failure is tied into what Windows can preview... still, not a good excuse!
This is also the same problem in both Illustrator and Photoshop.... neither Adobe program can preview their own file format!
WHY? OR How can I correct this?
[UPDATE: SageThumbs | SourceForge.net seems to partially work on many Photoshop files (works reasonably well as long as I limit the file size to 70mb), it doesn't seem to work on Illustrator files (despite the claim), and it doesn't work on InDesign.]
Still, the question remains, why isn't Adobe taking responsibility for this?I think you all misunderstood.
I am referring to opening files *within* the Adobe software. Example: Inside InDesign, I click File > Open... I see a list of my .indd files and to the right is a window with the words, "Select a file to preview." If I select an .indd file, I think it is reasonable to assume that I will see a preview of the .indd file... but NO, I just see the message, "No preview available."
In my opinion, this is a failing of Adobe!
> Use bridge
Why would I want to open a separate program just to see thumbnails? Sure Bridge has its uses when I want to look at a lot of different images but I am only talking about quickly seeing a thumbnail before I open a single file within either InDesign, Photoshop, or Illustrator.
Q. If Bridge can render thumbnails, why on Earth would Adobe not place the preview code into the open file dialog of each program?
