Independent Dual Mice on iMac

Hi,
I'm setting up my home project studio for a session tomorrow involving one other person. I want to be able for both of us to have independent control over my imac with a trackpad and a usb mouse (although any combination of two controllers will work for me: two trackpads, two usb mice, one of each. As long as we have full and separate control over a single DAW program. The ability for one person to adjust plugins/sound design and another to automate/level would make production faster and the creative process seemless while working with another person in digital audio!
I recently ran into WunderWork's TeamPlayer3 software for Windows (http://www.dicolab.com/). Is there anything like this developed for OSX? DualOSX is the only one I know of and this is a known scam, although this is exactly what I'm going for...
Also, are their any alternative technical setups I can do as well? My friend and I both own own macbooks, so is there anyway to get the desired effect, two independent mice controls/inputs in a single program, on OSX 10.8.4? This would be like using two computers slaved to one master OSX (My imac).
Anyways, I'm excited to hear your creative suggestions. If it can't be done I would like to know why so I might be able to figure out a solution myself. Thanks in advance!

Here's I final the solution along with Apple's official position on the issue:
I took the iMac to the Apple store, and we plugged an Apple 24" (which uses a Display port, not a dvi or vga). It worked perfectly fine. I explain that the issue was real to the Apple Genius, who told me that they are not allowed to test with non-Apple hardware.
At home, I still have the issue. Interestingly, pluging in the display (along with the mini Display-Port to dvi adaptor) cause the issue even when the display if OFF (physically OFF, not even in energy saving mode).
One friend suggested I reboot in 64 bit mode and give a try. Still same issue...
Finally, I decided to follow an advice from a friend and buy a mini display-port to VGA and give it a try. conclusion: with VGA, the issue is GONE!
I'm happy that the issue is solved, but I had to pay big bucks (these adaptors are a massive tax on the iMac, specially if/when you are forced to buy two!). I don't think that's fair and believe the issue needs to be resolved by Apple sooner rather later rather than being completely dismissed/ignored.

Setting up independant dual-head configuration in the usual way?

I'm preparing to set up a dual monitor system pretty soon using an ATI Radeon card. I went through the wiki and read what the ATI page has to say:

The problem is that it gives no indication of what the usual way is. I vaguely have an idea that I might need xinerama, but couldn't find a wiki page on that either... I've also tried googling with limited results.
Is anyone able to let me know of a good resource for this?

I'm using a radeon 6870 with kde and in my case I was able to set up my dual screens using Settings > System Settings > Hardware > Display and Monitor > Size & Orientation, clicking Save as Default once I had things set up the way I wanted made the settings permanent

If you still have a use for it it's definately worth it. You can upgrade the ram to a maximum of 6GB and run the current Yosemite OS. I'm not sure what "airport" is, and I have no idea what a router is supposed to accomplish. I got a "smartphone" (not an iPhone, an android) and at a "Smartphone class" at the senior center I was told I need a router.

For the router I suggest you consider one of the three Apple AirPort Base Stations, not only because it will be easier to get help with using them on this website, but they are generally regarded as the most reliable wireless routers. Technical support directly from Apple is free for the first 90 days.
Slightly cheaper alternatives exist. I have tried other manufacturer's wireless routers, and I don't recommend them.

Having a problem with built in mic in iMac

It seems my built in mic is not working on my iMac 2.7 GHz with Intel Core 15.
I am running OS X 10.9.3
The first option under Audio Devices is
"Built-in Microphone" which is set at 2 in/ 0 out, 44100.0 Hz and 2ch-24 bit Integer
Master volume is all the way to the right, Value = 1 and dB = 12. Mute and Thru are unchecked.
The second option is
"Built-in Input" which is set at 2 in/ 0 out, 48000.0Hz and 2ch-32bit Float, Hardware rate Converter is set to Automatic. Master slider is unavailable, sliders 1 & 2 are all the way to the right both with Value = 1 and dB = 12. Mute and Thru are unchecked.
The speakers are working fine. I noticed the microphone issue when trying to use Facetime, iMovie and GarageBand. During Facetime, I can hear my caller, but they cannot hear me. In GarageBand, I am unable to record vocals. In iMovie, I am unable to record any voiceovers.
I have tried plugging in an iRig mic as well, but it does not work on the iMac, but works fine on my iPad Air.
Can someone Please help me resolve this issue. I am sort of a newbie to Apple desktops. I have googled until I am blue in the face, and everything suggested has not worked for me. Apple support has no answers and I am at a loss. I am begging! ! !

Dual Monitor with iMac?

I have a iMac from early 2009 and wanted to use it as an external monitor for my laptop which has Windows 8.1 as it's OS. So my question is without using any software such as Synergy, Air Display, etc is there anyway I can make the iMac an external monitor for my laptop. I also have boot camp set up with Windows 7 as it's OS and I'm not sure if that's any help or not making this dual monitor setup work.
I was going to buy a mini displayport to VGA adapter (iMac (Early 2009) - Technical Specifications says: "Mini DisplayPort output port with support for DVI, VGA, and dual-link DVI via adapter," so I am assuming I cannot use HDMI) and use that to connect my laptop and the iMac together. And so I was wondering if that'll work out if I'm on windows partition in boot camp or not.

Using external mic with iMac 27 i7 under bootcamp with Windows 7

I've recently got myself an iMac 27" with the i7 upgrade. I'm running Windows 7 Professional 32bit for gaming (Snow Leopard for everything else). I have a headset with two 3.5mm plugs, one for the headphones, one for the mic. I can't get the mic to work (headphones work fine though). I plug it into the line in port (as it's the only other port when the headphones are plugged in) but this doesn't work.
Does anyone know how to get this to work?
I read somewhere that the headphone port on the iMac is a "triband" port, so would work with the headphones provided with the iphone that have 3 bands on it (stereo sound and mic) or something similar...

Two things to try, first make sure your Win7 disk is spotlessly clean, my superdrive regularly spits out even slight smudges. then if that doesn't clear it up here is a maintenance tip with the reset:
As old as your iMac is, have you cleaned out the dust? Dust buildup can lead to over heating issues. Remove any and all things plugged into it including the power cord, Remove the RAM access grille. Vacuum all openings starting with the RAM access area (air intake). Vacuum all ports and plugs, DVD slot and the opening across the top of the rear of the body. Blow compressed air through all your openings and vacuum again to remove any dust you loosend. Reinstall the RAM grille. Plug in the keyboard and mouse if not blue tooth. Insert power cord...
You are now in a perfect position to do a

Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.

Problem with dual screen (24" imac 2006 ver)

hi
i've got a 24" intel imac (2006 ver) and i've connected it using apple's mini-dvi => vga adapter to my 2nd 22" lcd monitor, a samsung 2232GW, which is set to 1680 x 1050.
however, the samsung lcd displays (when i'm using as dual screen) is quite blur and double imaged. quality is readable but very irritating. i'm also using the same monitor for my ps3 (uses the DVI side) and have no problem with any visual aspect. I've tried playing around with the settings like resolution and calibration and tuning but didn't help at all.
anyone might have any ideas and enlighten me on this issue?

Did you get any resolution to your question? I have the Samsung monitor almost like yours, and I posted two seconds ago. I think I have a similar problem. I had been using my Samsung with my PC, and just switched to Mac. I loved my Samsung, but now ,for the first time using as a second. Hooked up to mini dvi to dvi, and reported a glow, or tinge coming around any window that I may place on the Samsung.Also, when Ilook at the background around the window I can see that the resolution is not perfect and is breaking up a little. Did you try VGA? and did it help? Curious to know

New Dual Monitor Setup; iMac 21.5

I finally have my new dual monitor set up for my iMac after asking a while back.
I ended up getting a Lenovo monitor because thats the best deal they had. It matches pretty good, seems a little cheap but it works and works well for what I am going to be using it for.
The colors are a little off and yellowish but I am going to wait to give any kind of a review until its used for a month or so. That will give it some time to "break in".

It is real easy to select different Profiles and/or create new Color Profiles for your Displays.
Just go to: Apple > System Preferences > Displays > select the Color tab on the display preference panel for Lenovo display and uncheck the box " ☐ Show profiles for this display only" then
1. Select a different profile such as (Adobe RGB, Generic RGB, iMac, etc.)
2. Calibrate and save a custom Profile to the list. > http://www.computer-darkroom.com/colorsync-display/colorsync_1.htm
3. Sweet use any profile in the list, if you don't like it then switch back or create another.
In my case I could be happy with using the Generic RGB Profile and then lowering the brightness a notch or two, but prefer to use (W2253 Calibrated 3) which was my third attempt of 5 creating some new profiles for my LG.

Which dual monitor for iMac 21.5" 2010?

I've had my iMac 21.5" 2010 model for a while now, but now I would like another monitor.
It must be:
-Around 21.5"
-Preffibly LED back lit
-Black and/or aluminium
-Connect to my iMac
Do any of you have any suggestions for good dual monitors. Currently I'm not looking at the Cinema displays.

Back in the mid 90s I had a 17" display that I thought was heaven but as DTP and graphics software became more powerful I decided I needed a second display but when I went looking I found my display had been discontinued. The second display was also 17" but it was about 5 inches taller. I liked it better but I found it disconcerting that they weren't vertically aligned. A couple old college text books solved the problem.
More recently I received a nice HD LCD display from my wife when she upgraded and it was maybe an inch shorter than my iMac. That didn't bother me at all. The display itself is 2" larger than my iMac and that didn't bother me either. I sometimes connect my notebook to the LCD and then the size difference does bother me so I only use mirroring with the notebook.
If the height difference bugs you, cheap out with a few books or go the classier route with a little shelf to raise the LCD. Or, find a display that has an adjustable height.

Not directly, since there's no "video in" port. However, you could try using ScreenRecycler, which uses the VNC protocol to extend another Mac's desktop virtually (across the network).

Hook-up Two USB mics to iMac

Is there any easy way to hook two USB microphones into an iMac through USB ports? Particularly if you're an idiot?

just plug them in but using them at the same time is another matter

all can be used by the system but only 1 at the time
if you want support for more then one then I believe you have to depend on the music recording app supporting it

I use LE 9.0 and a Presonus Firestudio Project and would like to know whether what kind of performance improvements I will see between the two options I am considering. I use a lot of plugins, and an external Firewire 800 drive for recording. Obviously with the Mini, I will have to buy an optical drive as well. I already have two monitors, keyboard and mouse.

External Mic for iMac G4/800

Is it possible to attach an external mic/headset combo on an iMac G4/800 (M8535ll/A). If so where is the mic input? Thanks, Ken.

and do not see an audio input mini-jack. If that model does not have one, you can add one using a USB device, such as the iMic from Griffin

However, you may want to contact Griffin to see if it will work with 10.3.x (as stated in your profile) and with USB 1.1 (the older slower type on that iMac model). The product description says 10.4 or later, but that may be for the included recording application, and not for the device itself. This product has been around since Mac OS X 10.3.

Dual 800 vs Imac. Performance. Upgrade?

I have a Powermac G4 dual 800 loaded with RAM and 3 huge HDs and the WEAK LINK is a 15" monitor. I use the Adobe CS2 suite and Macromedia Studio 8 as well as the ilife stuff and Toast. I am in desperate need of more screen real estate with all the palettes and toolbars I use. I want to buy a 20'' or 23' display but it would also cause me to spend at least 200-250 to upgrade the graphics card. So I'm lookin at 1000-1300 just for a new display. Seems like a lot $ince I can get a 20" imac for nearly the same. Ive had this g4 quicksilver for a while and its still awesome but besides the screen size a "lil" speedboost would be nice. So...
1. If I buy a G5 Imac am I kind of throwing money away when I can "buy for the future" with a core duo?
2. If I buy the Intel Imac 20" will my adobe and macromedia apps run better under Rosetta than a G4 Dual 800. Or Will I be stuck with practically unusable(like virtual PC slow) software. Any experiences?
3. Should I buy the G5 Imac 20" and let the Intel Core Duo work out the kinks for another year and enjoy better adobe/macromedia performance.
I know these are common questions right now but I was curious about real world performance compared to a G4 dual 800.

John, welcome, this personal, but I like your original idea. I plan to get the display sooner and the new computer later, depending on what happens. As of now, that's my plan.
