Independent Mouse in Hyper V w/ Windows 8.1

Hi,
I am trying to run a windows automation tool on my VM while I am working on the local computer. The automation tool needs to control take control of the mouse. However, the mouse in Hyper V is actually shared between the two windows (local and VM) instead
of being independent of one another. Is there a way to have two independent mouses? Say when the mouse goes into the VM window, it controls it but when it leaves the window, the mouse remains in the VM window. Or could the mouse/keyboard controls be turned
off?

Hi AGhúis,
Thank you for your suggestion! I think I got it to work. For the benefit of those who might face the same issue as I, I am able to run Chrome Remote Desktop and click the exe to run the automation file. Since Chrome Remote Desktop doesn't share the mouse,
the program seems to run fine. Also, the VM window can be closed and running in the background while the automation takes place. I think this is the most promising workflow I have right now.
Thank you for everyone's response! If anybody else has a better suggestion, please don't hesitate to let me know. Thank you.

  • APPLE mouse & keyboard not working with Windows (Bootcamp)

I installed Leopard and Windows XP on my Mac Pro. The installation went very smoothly. Only problem I have is that my Apple wireless keyboard and mouse do not work on Windows (frozen) although they work fine on Leopard. I tried a Logitech wireless trackball and it works fine on both Windows and Leopard. Any suggestion?

Thanks. I upgraded from Tiger and downloaded Bootcamp from Leopard Installation disc ( I did not have a beta version ). I then installed Windows XP SP2 ( brand new, just bought for that purpose ). Wonder if Mac wireless keyboard and mouse are compatible with Window. Everything else work beyond my expectation.

    thanks

Previously it has been blocked to install Windows Server in the VM and then add the Hyper-V Role.
However, it has always been possible to install Hyper-V Server inside a VM. (the free Hyper-V Server SKU)
The Hyper-V Server VM is fully manageable, but it cannot start any VMs.

I have tweaked the RAM and the # of Virtual Procs and nothing seems to consistently fix it.  Specifically I've disabled dynamic memory, set the RAM to 8GB and the number of procs to

  • Cannot enable hyper-v in windows 8.1(EFI from bootcamp)

    Hi Guys,
I wonder whether anybody has the same issue as me.
Use boot camp assistant to follow the instruction to install windows 8.1 and failed at last step said windows cannot write into boot configuration data something
Find one remediation solution to delete the partition created by boot camp and create it from disk utitlity. everything went smooth and get windows 8.1 installed(Bios), can even enable the hyper-v without any issue
Find another thread talking about EFI boot. So try it with the way(need use gdisk to do some patching and finally need recreate bcd record). windows 8.1 installed without any issue, not sure whether it is EFI boot. But I cannot enable hyper v anymore. after tick the option in windows features and it restart twice and nothing happen. The hyper-v option still remain in windows feature.
Anybody has the similar issue and provide your valuable advice? Thanks a lot.
BTW, the hardware is rMBP 15", i7 2.3GHZ, 16G RAM and 512G SSD

    Hi TeddyIsSam
Encountered the same problem on my 27" iMac Mid-2010 (CPU i5-2500s)
I tried for hours/days and could not enable Hyper-V.
If i enabled hyper-v, windows would boot to black screen and could not be repaired without disabling hyper-v.
Found the problem. installing bootcamp from USB with always use latest EFI boot and hyper-v doesnt like it - at least on my old iMac.
Installing windows with old bootcamp style - BIOS emulation (or whatever apple call it) works OK.
non-EFI (or old bootcamp) is when you get 1-2 second of cursor flash in the top left before windows boots.
Unfortunately, i had removed my super drive DVD from iMac... so i could only install bootcamp from USB and this requires EFI boot only.
To remedy this, i used this process which was very, very time consuming, costs $ for winclone and not for beginners
    http://huguesval.com/blog/2012/02/installing-windows-7-on-a-mac-without-superdri ve-with-virtualbox/
However, i can confirm i can now happily run hyper-v with Windows 8.1. great performance. It boots in old non-EFI mode which doesnt seem to have any downside? except the 1-2 cursor flash and i had to manually install latest graphics drivers from ATI as bootcamp drivers we buggy.
Hope this saves someone a lot of time!!!
im assuming later generation Macs happily run hyper-v with latest EFI.

  • Installing Hyper-V on Windows 7

    Hi!
I installed Hyper-V on Windows 7, but when I try to connect to local host, the follow message appears:
"Hyper-V has not been installed on computer localhost""
    Someone can help me?
    Regards

    Hello,
There is a solution, you 'll still be able to run a virtual machine on Windows 7. You've got to first create a Virtual Hard disk (vhd) then install Windows Server 2008R2 on it by WIM2VHD. Create a boot entry by bcdedit. Then you have your new environment
    where you can install hyper-V!
    Bye, Sébastien
Please explain how you can run Hyper-V in Windows 7 if you install Server 2008 R2 in a VHD.  The Server 2008 R@ VHD is a separate environment on the HDD.  When you boot the Server 2008 R2 VHD you are not running Windows 7.
    Read the information found @
http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/129475-boot-windows-7-from-vhd-an-amazing-concept/ about booting from VHD.  Your method of creating the Server 2008 R2 VHD will not work.  Server 2008 R@ must be installed to its own separate VHD the same as with
    the Windows 7 VHD.

  • How to install hyper-v on windows 8 ?

How to install hyper-v on windows 8 ?
I want to install virtual PC but after some research I came to know that windows 8 no longer support virtual pc and it has been replaced by something called hyper-v.
    I just bought a Windows 8 laptop.
I tried looking into windows on / off features (in control panel) and there is NO hyper-V.
I know why I don't have hyper-V because after doing some research it seems like it is only available on windows 8 PRO.
    Here is comparison chart:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_8_editions#Comparison_chart
I have Widows 8 on my laptop (NOT Windows PRO).
Now in this situation, how to install hyper-v on my laptop ?
Also, will I be able to run windows 7 virtually on my windows 8 laptop using hyper-v just like virtual pc ? like switching in windows between OS ? If I cannot do this and hyper-v does not work like virtual PC then I don;t think hyper-v will be useful to
me at all and i don't wanna figure it out if it is not useful in any way ?

    Hi jeffcarter,
To enable the Windows 8 Client Hyper-V feature, our computer needs to meet the following requirements:
    1. Hardware supports Second Level Address Translation (SLAT)
    2. 64-bit Windows 8 Pro or Enterprise.
    3. 4 GB or above of RAM.
Therefore, it seems that your computer cannot install Hyper-V. Also, Windows Virtual PC cannot be run on Windows 8. Thanks for your understanding.
In addition, regarding how to configure your BIOS to enable Intel VT-X, you can refer to your motherboard’s operating manual or query the vendor support for help.

  • Hyper-V on Windows 8.1 is messing with MAC address when sharing my Wifi card

    Hello,
I'm using Hyper-V on Windows 8.1 to build a complete SharePoint Development environment.
All of my VM are following this scheme:
a "local" private network shared between the host and all VM, using a static IP address plan (192.168.10.0/24)
a RJ45 external network, attached to my physical ethernet card. This network uses DHCP protocol
a WIFI external network, attached to my wireless network card. This network also use DHCP protocol
When plugged on the ethernet card, I have no issue. Both the host and the guest OSes are getting a valid IP address.
However, when I try to connect on the wireless card, I get some weird errors. Actually, my guest OS are getting the same IP address than the host. This issue an IP address conflict.
Someone else got the same kind of behavior : Windows 8.1
Hyper-V : IP address conflict on Guest OS
I've checked my MAC address plan, and it seems correct.
Using WireShark (a tool I'm not used to I admit), I can see that all DHCP request of the guest os, are sending the host MAC address, and not the guest' one.
Does anyone have an answer to this weird behavior?
    Thanks,
    steve

    Hi Steve,
Please try the following step and then retry ipconfig /renew in your VM :
    1. Configure the WI-FI router to assign a static IP address to the host’s wireless network adapter(the IP should not be in DHCP Pool).
    2. On the host, configure the wireless network adapter to use a static IP address. The IP address will be the same address configured in step 1.
    3. Using Hyper-V Manager, create an external network switch that is bound to the host’s wireless network adapter
    Hope this helps

    Hi Elton,
First of all, thanks for your effort.
I will try your suggestion, but even if it works, it won't solve the actual root the issue.
Moreover, it is only relevant if I can control every wireless network I'm connecting to. What about if I travel and I connect with a customer wireless network? what about an hotel wireless network?
As I said, wireshark shows me DHCP requests using the wrong IP address. I strongly believe there's a bug somewhere between the wireless card driver and Hyper-v Mac-Bridge service.

  • Magic Mouse won't work in Windows 7 anymore

    Hey there,
I've got an iMac running OS X 10.6.8 and Windows 7 via Boot Camp. I just updated a bunch of the Apple stuff on Windows -- iTunes, Quicktime, "boot camp" (I assume that meant drivers and such), and whatnot. Now my Magic Mouse won't work in Windows 7. It was fine before, so I assume the update screwed something up. Help? I know nothing of retrieving old drivers and stuff like that.

I have a microsoft bluetooth notebook mouse 5000 that works well in mac osx but when I go to windows 7 in bootcamp it reports that the bluetooth hid device driver is not working and the mouse won't work.
I can get it to detect the mouse and try to load the driver but then it says that the driver installation did not work.
In device manager the bluetooth hid device has a warning icon next to it and it says that the device is not working.
When I try to use my magic mouse in windows the same error happens and it says that the hid bluetooth device driver is not working.
Both mice work fine in mac osx and the microsoft mouse was working ok in windows until last week.
Since then, my son installed a couple of games in the windows side and the mouse started acting up the following day.
Any advice would be very appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi!
I suffered this problem time and time again, I kept on pairing/un-pairing/re-pairing etc. and then for no reason at all it suddenly worked. What happened I do not know. Be patient. First off use a wired keyboard and wireless mouse and if that works stay with it for a while. Then try both wireless. I found my mouse was more temperamental than the keyboard. You may have to try wireless keyboard and wired mouse (USB into the computer direct).
Good luck let me know how it goes.
