InDesign 2.0 files open with InDesign CS4.

Hi,
I works with InDesign 2.0 and want upgrade to InDesign CS4. Can I open InDesign 2.0 files with InDesign CS4?
Or need I a conversion tool for the files. which tool is it.

2.0 files will open up fine in CS4, you won't need any special conversion tools. However once you've opened the file in CS4 and changed it you will have to save it as a CS4 file. There is no way you can open that file again in 2.0 unless you have all the versions in between, and even then it would be very messy and time consuming.

No. It happens to any InDesign file. I created a new file in CC14, saved, closed, opened and it had the asterisk.

How change the File Open With list of apps?

In Bridge CS3, how does one edit the list of applications in the File > Open With menu (also available from the contextual menu for any image).
The list contains a number of applications that I would never use to open an image, and I would like to add to it, a new image editor (pixelmator) that does not appear in it. I have looked in the Bridge Help and the Preferences dialog and don't see any option to do this.

OK, I have now learned that Mac OS keeps the list of which apps to open what, in the "launch services database."
This database can be cleaned up and reset which somewhat simplifies the list that is displayed by the Finder OR by Bridge CS3.

Even after rebuilding the launchdb, I find that a large number of apps are "registered" to open JPG files, including Camino, Opera, TextWrangler and others with only a tenuous connection to JPG. I don't understand why this is, and I would still like to find a way to limit the JPG Open-With list to a few graphics programs. But cleaning up the launchdb as described in the linked pages, did get rid of some programs and added some missing ones.

Flash files open with no timeline

I just uprgraded my Mac OS from 10.4 to 10.6. Now some of my Flash files open with no timeline and nothing on the stage. If I try to open a library item it crashes. I tried reinstalling Flash and installing all updates to the OS… no luck. Help!

I was able to open it on an OS 10.3 machine. After deleting the preloader from the stage, the fie works again on a 10.6 machine.

My IDML file saved in Indesign CC won't open in Indesign 6

Hello. I am on trial of Indesign CC, and exported a file to an IDML trying to open it on the school computer since they only have previous versions of Indesign.
When I try to open my file that I worked on at home in Indesign CC, it won't open in Indesign 6.
The pop up message I get is "Cannot open the file xxx.idml." Adobe Indesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application."
The file IS saved as IDML
The file isn't open in another application
I don't know how I can fix this issue. Could anybody help me out? I've tried both .indd and .idml saved under CC, but it refuses to open in prior versions.

Indesign broken link file open performance

We use Indesign CS3 on a windows network with a DFS backend handling data replication.
We recently changed server technology, to take advantage of windows DFS, and that subsequently changed the unc path that is in the links inside of our Indesign documents.
The old server name in the unc is non existant and physically does not exist.
When we would open the Indesign file, even a smal file of 40 meg or so, it would take 20 to 30 minutes to open.
Once we had corrected the links, the file would open fine.
On a whim, I added the old server name back to our DNS and pointed it to another machine internally.
Now the Indesign files, with broken links, now opens in seconds.
It was like Indesign was trying to physically find the old server, couldn't, try again, repeat, repeat, etc...
Is this how Indesign works when verifying the links upon file open?
Just want to make sure that this bandaide will continue to work.

yes - if you have network links and you have active network connection - InDesign will try to find server - but if you disconnect your network - InDesign will recognise that network is offline and will not try to find server

Can we publish swf file made with InDesign in .exe?

I made a SWF file with InDesign. I would like to publish it in .exe? Is it possible?

What version of FlashPro are you using? If you want a self contained app that doesn't load external resources, publish an AIR app, which will work on Windows or OSX. I'm using OSX so I can't really help with .exe projector files, but it looks like the latest version of FlashPro no longer outputs projector files—I think everything is AIR now.
If you really want to go the projector route, I'm guessing Jeffrey Smith's suggestion of finding an older version of Flash Player would be simpler.
So for AIR, set your Publishing target to AIR for Desktop. Then under File>AIR settings:
Output as: Application with runtime embedded
Include files: Add all of your resources—the swf ID generated and it's resource folder
In the Signature tab click New to create a self-signing Certificate (if you were developing commercial software you would need a third party certificate). You can save the certificate anywhere.
When you publish you should find an AIR application file (.app) file in the directory with your .fla

Font in swf file changes with indesign

Hi, I am creating an indesign presentation, and have included a swf movie I created in Flash Professional. The movie contains some text, which appears fine in Flash Pro and fine in the indesign preview tool, but once the indesign file is exported to a swf file itself, the font changes to something different. I have made the text field into a movie symbol in Flash after finding this issue the first time, but this has not corrected it. Is there anyway I can correct this please?

Thanks. I'm going to have to find out the process behind that as I'm not sure how to do it - exporting the flash animation as a swf file is also creating a swz file that I assumed was all the text info needed, but it doesnt seem to help in this matter. In the mean time I have done the text parts in Photoshop, simplified the layers and then imported them as png images, and that has seemed to fix the issue.

Files opening in bridge cs4, not cs5

I have all my graphics types associated with bridge, but they open in cs4, and changing the association (in open with...) does nothing.
Maybe I should just uninstall bridge cs4?

Afraid that I might be called a smartypants I still suggest a different approach.
Personally I want my .psd-files to open in eg. Photoshop if I double click them from within Windows Explorer. Same with .indd/ai opening in InDesign or Illustrator.
Therefore I've made a .reg file that contains this:

This gives me the possibility to right click a folder, sadly not a specific file, and have it "open"/previewed/organized in Bridge.
Naturally this doesn't help your current issue with Bridge CS4 opening instead of CS5.
Just wanted to give you a possible workaround.
If everything else fails contacting Adobe Support could be an option...

How do I prevent InDesign CS4files trying to open in InDesign CC?

Subscribed to CC for a month for a project, and the FAQ assured me that I could run it alongside the existing CS4 on my Mac, it wouldn't delete or interfere with it. Well, it may not delete, but every CS4 document I have is now set to automatically open with the CC version, so if I fail to notice they'll end up in a later version of InDesign, and after my sub ends I won't even be able to open them and save back down to IDML to get them back into CS4. (I freelance, and at the moment I am really not sure of keeping up with these apps since it all went cloudy.)
I can do "open with" for that document, of course, but if I try to set documents in their information panel to "do this for all documents of this type", it just WON'T! They all pop back to CC, including the one I have the info panel open on. Which I can only assume is Adobe messing with the finder function, because that has never failed for me before.
And even when I have done a Save As and SEEN in the format drop down that it says CS4, the icon for that new document still comes up black and when I look at the info panel, lo and behold THAT new document is set to open automatically in CC.
Do I have to reset every document (hundreds) manually in the info panel, one by one, to get them to ignore this temporary visitor to my Mac?
Or is there actually some better, faster, mass effect way to prevent this happening? I'd appreciate any help. (Or a secondhand copy of cloud-free CS6!)

If you're going to mess with the registry
- create a restore point http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ie/windows7/create-a-restore-point
- backup the registry http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/back-up-registry
I absolutely plead with all my heart - don't start changing registry entries unless you know what you're doing - or ask your IT department to take a look.
If you don't have an IT department, then source a good professional that can make these changes.
If any way unsure - then under any circumstances, - do not mess with the registry.

Raw files open with adjustments..

I am having trouble with RAW files in Lightroom, and also camera RAW.
When I import a RAW file into Lightroom (i have the current version, 3.5) Lightroom adds adjustments to the file, for example in the basic section of the develop module exposure will be set to 0.25, recovery will be at 100, contrast 54 etc...
I have tried shooting on different cameras and I do not have the problem. I have put the same RAW files into another computer with Lightroom and it works fine. Just seems to be a wierd combination of my camera and my computer.
Everything was working fine, and I recently purchased a new camera, and still everything was fine. Then one day it started adding adjustments to the RAW image automatically. And the same when I open a file in camera RAW..
Any recomendations on what to do/how to solve the issue??!

In LR Develop module go to Develop tab>Set Default Settings...>click Restore Default Adobe Settings. This will put you back to square one in LR
In ACR at the right end of the Basic panel header is a little triangle. Click on this and at the bottom of the dropdown list click on "Reset Camera Raw Defaults".

P.S. In each case you will need to open a file from the camera giving you the problem then reset with the file open. This goes for both LR and ACR.

Jar files opening with RAR, WHA????????

Ok, I was trying to Hic get a great java3d platform game (brutal file manager) to load.
I tried again, exept now, the jars open with winrar!
I found my main class problem, I extracted all the files with the class, but it does me no good because I CANT EXECUTE IT!
How can I execute these again?

So you apparently changed Window's file associations to have java.exe open .jar files? Right?
How are you trying to start the game - what is the command you use? Do the game instructions tell you how to start it?
The error message "Cannot find the main class, program will now exit..." means that the jar is not intended to be an executable jar and is without a main class file. It could be caused by a mis-configuration of the game, also. . .
More definite information iis needed.
