Indesign 2.0 Jpeg distortion problem.

I was running Indesign version 2.0 happily for many years.  My hard drive crashed, reloaded software onto new machine.  Problems started when I tried to place a jpeg (from my scanned image library – I can place photographs ok) .  First it was cannotParseError.  We seem to have fixed this by downloading the Indesign 2.1 upgrade.  I can now place a jpeg however it the image is very pixalated with the last 1cm or so as it should be.  I can open the images in photoshop and the are perfect. Previous to the hard drive crash images were placed ok.  Help to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Export indesign pages as jpegs?

I can't seem to export my indesign files as jpegs in CC. I am able to export pdf's and eps files, but not jpegs or png files. There is no error message or warning, the dialogue box comes up as normal, but the files never export. Has anyone else had this problem? I have never had an issue in earlier versions of Indesign. Any help is much appreciated!

It's working for me, and I don't remember this being reported here before.
I'd suggest starting by restoring your InDesign preferences:

  • Indesign.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.

After formatting my hard drive and reinstalling InDesign CS3, I am not able to open the program.
When I click the shortcut to start the program, it starts to load for about 10-15 seconds, then freezes and gives me this error message:

I tried reinstalling over the first installation. Then I downloaded the latest updates (Ver. 5.0.4)
Then I rebooted the computer. Same problem. Rebooted two more times. Same problem.
Uninstalled the program. Reinstalled. Rebooted. Same error msg. Installed update to Ver 5.9.4, same error msg.
    Rebooted again, same error msg.
    What's next? I am at a loss.

  • An error occur indesign.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I am having trouble with adobe indesign CS5. Each time I opened my document an error occur indesign.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. It got send report and don't send report to Microsoft. I have already used google web as a help and nothing came up. I have already tried to uninstall and re-install it but still same issue occured. Other Adobe products such as Adobe Dreanweaver CS5 and Adobe Flash CS5 work fine.I would greatly appreciated if you can walk me through. Thanks.

Windows error reports are too vague to help us much. Did you get an error number?
Is this happening now every time you start ID? That would likely mean the recovery data is damaged. You can find the InDesign Recovery folder in your user profile. This folder is probably hidden, so you'll need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden and system files, then look in the same directory as the location of InDesign Defaults, which you can find for your version of Windows in the information in this link: Replace Your Preferences
Once you find the InDesign Recovery folder, either rename or empty it, then ID should start normally. If you file crashes again when you try to open it from the file menu please tell us as much information as you can.

  • Export InDesign pages in jpeg, then rename the jpeg automatically.

How to rename separated jpeg files automatically ?
Exemple of my InDesign document :
    Page 1 :
         Product #26356
    Page 2 :
         Product #920009
    Page 3 :
       Product #910573
I need to export them in jpeg after for a technical reason. But, how to rename the jpg with the product #, without writing them one by one ?

I think a script would suit you best.
You could InDesign apply the Product code via the Text Variables.
And I think a clever scripter could use that variable to name your jpgs.
There is the Batch Convert script http://www.kahrel.plus.com/indesign/batch_convert.html
It's free - and it will convert your InDesign documents to JPEG.
But there is the additional "Run Script" and I think it might be possible to do it somehow.

  • Convert to jpeg ouput problem

When I convert eps to jpeg the output document has a checkerboard in all blank areas. I am new, it's probabaly easy, but help anyways. Thanks!

Thanks! It was a transparency issue. Just need to select properly when "saving as".

It helps to be more descriptive when you post and tell us exactly what you are doing.
That being said, I guess that you are going to file>save for web & devices. The checkerboard that you are seeing simply means that those areas are transparent.

  • Jpeg converstion problem

    Hi,
I opened up a JPEG, and obtained the pixel information using BufferedImage.getRGB(). Then I converted the pixel information in 32 bit integers.
Then I wrote a class to read the string of bits and convert them into an array of integers (to turn into the equivalent JPEG image). I did a comparison of the two arrays (the one originally obtained from the 1st image and the one that I got from the string to turn into the second image. They were identical.
Then using the second array and the JPEG encoder class, I created a JPEG, no problems. The two images look very similar, but they are different. the second image seems to have a different color range than the first. I assumed that if the pixel arrays were identical, I would get a JPEG that looked like my source. Am I miss understanding something?
Basically I need to obtain the bit information from the JPEG (0s and 1s). Is there some way I can obtain bit information for the entire JPEG?
    Thanks,
    Jacob

As long as your photo is small enough, it should go through Yahoo mail.
    How large is your JPEG?
JPEGs directly from cameras are usually too large to e-mail without resizing.
BTW, is this a Photoshop Elements or Premiere Elements question? You are on the Premiere Elements forum.

    JoBautista,
you still have the option (before your warranty expires) of purchasing an AppleCare Protection Plan, which will provide an additional two years of coverage. Once your warranty expires, you will no longer have the option of purchasing AppleCare.

  • A non-solution to the static distortion problem

I don't know if there's any chance of the following "solution" having value to anyone else but I'll submit it to be filed in the "For What It's Worth" folder.
First, by way of preamble, I've upgraded iTunes a number of times now (going back to v. 4.6.0.15) and this is the first time I have had any sort of issue - the static/distortion problem that is presently being much-discussed in these forums.
Following the leads in the early threads on this topic, I played a handful of song files with QuickTime and confirmed that everything sounded fine with that player.
I went back to iTunes and the problem remained, although it struck me that it wasn't as severe as it had been.
I continued playing songs, hoping for some sort of insight into what had gone wrong when it slowly dawned on me that the static/distortion had ended ... and I hadn't done anything - changed settings or anything else - except simply play songs.
iTunes has been playing for a couple of hours now with no further sign of the problem.
One final point of information, I'm guessing it was after having played in the area of 10-15 songs when the problem seems to have solved itself.

I'll also add that I've since re-enabled the options I originally changed to "fix" my problem. I'm no longer getting the distortion, even with the options I changed.
I'm not sure what's going on.. I guess I'm just glad my music is back to normal and that I can browse the Internet AND listen to music!

  • Distortion problems with new iPod Classic

    Hello:
I recently purchased a 160GB iPod Classic to replace a 2-year-old 60GB iPod. I had no problems updating the new one; about a zillion tracks went in very smoothly in about a half-hour. But I have noticed a couple of problems:
First, I always listen to my iPod at work on a Klipsch dock, and even though I keep it set at a fairly low volume (all of the content is classical music), I'm getting crackling and distortion in random spots in music. It doesn't seem to matter if the music was downloaded from iTunes or imported from a CD. It's definitely not the dock, because I tried the old iPod on it and it worked as well as it always did.
Second, when I select a playlist and start playback, I notice that more often than not, the first second or two of music is cut off. I have to press the back arrow on the iPod, and then playback is correct.
That is a minor annoyance, but the the distortion problem is far more serious. I never had either problem on the old iPod, and I was wondering if anyone has experienced similar problems with the iPod Classic. I'd HATE to think I'd have to trash 40GB of music and start all over importing CDs.
Thanks for any input you can give me.

thanks for the suggestion but it did not work.
The iPod came up asking for the password (WEP key) and i entered it. It showed connected with the router but Safari does not work and when i check the DHCP entries in see the following
    IP: 169.254.202.45
    Sub: 255.255.0.0
This means that the connection was made but the router DHCP server did not assign an IP address to the iPod.
This exact problem i have encoutered so far in my office, a cofeeshop and a car dealership. In all cases the wirelles was based on an older linksys router and except in the case of my office the other two were unsecured networks.
I believe it has something to do with the firmware on those linksys routers causing a problem specificaly to iPods and i would guess iPhones too since they have the same OS.
I'm open to any suggestions but i've tried all the ones posted in this and other forums so far with no luck.
When i assign a static IP, the iPod again connects, the router log indicates outgoing traffic from that IP but there is no incomming traffic.

  • Jpeg encoding with imageio - pink distortion problem

Hello, I am using the imageio classes to scale down jpg images (for thumbnails) and write them to a file. On most images, everything works perfectly. On some images, however, the resulting thumbnail image has a strange pink coloration to the whole picture. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this would happen? The code I am using is below. I am having the same problem with jpegs.
The strange thing is that this only happends with the same exact code on OS X, while it never happens on any windows machine.
I have tried using the the ImageIO classes, and a class I got off of this board a while back; however when using this class on an OS X machine, encoding takes a really long time and gives the pink distortion.

  • Jpeg rendering problem

Hi there I have a problem I hope someone can help me with.
Im running INDesign Server and producing jpegs and pdfs through the soap interface.
With some images when they are imported into the IDD template and exported out again as JPEGs they seem to lose the middle of the image. It like somebody has cut half the image out with a pair of scissors. When exported as PDF there is no problem. I was wondering if anybody has experienced this problem and can offer tips.
I don't understand why some JPGs have the problem but others dont.

i have the same issue- i see you had this issue in 2008, can you tell me if you figured it out, i also posted a question but I don't have too much hope of getting it answered...

  • How to fix InDesign CS5 install/program-opening problems the "right" way?

After my second install of CS5 Design Premium, I was still having all sorts of problems with opening programs. InDesign was especially troublesome and I posted my woes at the bottom of this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/661059?tstart=0
John Hawkinson (presumably an Adobe employee) kindly replied suggested I start a new thread so he could help me debug properly. So while the iron is hot...I'm ready...let's debug. Can it be done in an hour?
    Other comments from John H.:
"You should realize that removing the welcome screen plugin is not  supported and can come back to bite you later on. It would be better to  fix it properly. Probably by reinstalling InDesign."

After about a minute though, the program opened, welcome screen and all...
Oh dear. Well, then I guess it's not stuck.
So, we know it's not specific to your customizations from CS3 or otherwise, since it doens't affect your new user. So it's either something about InDesign's installation on your machine, or something about your machine in general.
I forgot to ask: Do you have any font management software installed? Have you tried disabling it? That has been the source of a variety of problems... One of the things InDesign does at startup is enumerate all the fonts on your system. Do you have a really large number?
How about any plugins for InDesign or other software that modifies its behavior?
I am mostly out of ideas. Your Sample Process output is not very informative to me. It looks like it is in the midst of calls to the operating system (all the CF* stuff is Apple's CoreFoundation code), rather than inside InDesign's code itself. Which could implicate...the operating system's font subsystem, graphics subsystem, or, well, almost anything.
I'm afraid I'm almost out of ideas. It would seem pointless to suggest you replace your preferences, since you started out with a clean user account.
You can certainly de-install CS5 and run the CS5 Cleaner Tool and then reinstall. No promises that it would work, though, it might just be a waste of your time
If you're feeling really exciting, the only other thing (other than the above) that I would try would be to go the Activity Monitor, and choose View > Send Signal to Process and choose Abort (SIGABRT). That will force InDesign to crash. The crash report may be a bit more insightful than the call graph from the Sample Process. Though it'll be frozen at an instant in time, so it might not reflect what's going on during the bulk of the rainbow-wheeling. Anyhow, the relevant section is the "Thread 0 Crashed: " portion and the lines that follow until Thread 1.
I suppose it might be possible to instrument the CoreFoundation calls with dtrace. That's definitely not something I've done and it's probably easier to take out the WelcomeScreen plugin and soldier on. Hopefully something along the way will help before you get that far.
And of course, you can open an official support case with Adobe...
