InDesign 2.x Unexpectedly Quits During Startup

I've seen postings for this and similar problems going back several years. Have tried the various fixes. None seem to work.
I've got InDesign 2.02 installed on  a Mac PowerBook G4 running Mac OS X v10.4.11. It's a small screen, 1GHz model with 768 MBytes RAM.  I usually work hooked into a 1600 x 1200 pixel monitor.
Last year I had problems with InDesign quitting when I tried to save a file being worked on. It was a pain, but I remember somehow working around the problem. Maybe exported file. Don't recall what the work around was.
I just recently tried using InDesign again. Similar to some other postings, when InDesign is started up, it quits during the splash screen statement "Executing startup services ...".
Is anyone still having this problem or know of a solution?:-(

Hmm... Maybe it's the same issue that affected CS/CS2: they started crashing after installing Acrobat 8.2 or 8.2.1.
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/534/cpsid_53468.html
A while ago, the fix was to restore some stuff in the 'Application Support' folder (Acrobat was mucking something up in a shared area, and that caused InDesign CS/CS2 to crash on startup), but apparently, there is now an Acrobat 8.2.2 to fix the issue. If you have Acrobat 8.2 or 8.2.1, it could be the same issue.

What is the fix for Internet Explorer unexpectedly quiting upon startup. I've tried restarting my eMac but get the same message upon startup. Thanks!

    Hello Bob,
    Welcome To Apple Discussions!
I've had this problem but on OS9, the only fix i found was to uninstall and reinstall. Look here at Mactopia website for downloads.

  • InDesign CS2 keeps unexpectedly quitting. Running Mac OS 10.5.8

Please Help! In calling customer support, this is where I am directed. The problem has been slowly coming on... when I open a document, after working on it awhile, InDesign will "Unexpectedly Quit". Now, I cannot even get a document to open before it becomes a flash in the pan of "Unexpectedly Quit" world. Any help would be appreciated.

    maggy,
I run CS4 on Win XP and I just had the same thing, unexpectedly quit.
I just re-set the preferences, restart ID and as fast as you can, hit Command-Option-Shift-Control on your keyboard to do this. It works for me!
Then if no joy look further here in this forum.

  • IPhoto unexpectedly quit during library rebuild

Last night, I did a clean install of OSX on my G4. Once I got all the updates in order, I reinstalled iLife '04 and then put those updates in place as well. I had been having problems with iPhoto previously. So, I decided not to just copy the library over, but rather rebuild it. Well, I have gone through the process twice, and as it is nearing completion (after 3 hours), iPhoto unexpectedly quits. The first time it did this, I could open the "rebuilt" library, but when shutting iPhoto down, it would beachball for over 30 seconds. When I open the original library and close down, it only takes a couple of seconds. Could I be having a problem with the fact that the original is on one drive and I am rebuilding to a different drive? Or is it just that there is something so terribly messed up in the original library that iPhoto is crashing as a result on the rebuild?

I now just trying to get iPhoto to quit crashing. The library is on my main drive now (an external since the internals no longer work).
iPhoto is consistently locking up during slide shows. Has been for the last two weeks. The SD card issue, well, I don't really know just now. I have not tried since the clean install was completed the other night.
I am thinking that there is something terribly wrong to which all of these issues could all be tied. I am just trying to give as much information as possible.
I am not really sure right now what is not necessary that I have tried? When one thing does not solve the problem, trial and error methodology is istituted until a solution is found. I am just hoping there is a suggestion I might have missed.

  • Fcp6 unexpectedly quit on startup!!!

I had hard time to install FCP 6 because Logic studio and FCP had some crash.
Now I solved the problem and installed FCP 6.
    but,,,
I can't launch FCP 6 cause unexpected quit occurs everytime...
I think it has somthing to do with my Sound Source Plug-ins such as NI Instruments.
do you guys have any idea???
    i need some help~!!
    Thanks!

try backing up, then trashing your FCP preferences with FCP Rescue (from http://fcprescue.andersholck.com)
if FCP will launch after you've trashed the prefs then you're good to go
failing that try creating a new user account in your OSX System Preference >> Accounts pane
then log in to that new account and see if FCP will launch there ... or whether you get the same trouble
if you still have trouble then it does seem to be a problem with incomaptible AU plugs stalling the FCP launch
in that case you need to find out which one(s) id doing it by good old trial and error.
    post back with your findings

  • Photoshop unexpectedly quits on startup

Hi all, I am really hoping someone can give me some insight into this problem.
I installed the 10.4.5 update a few days ago, and just today went to open Photoshop CS and it wouldn't open. Just gave me the "unexpectedly quit" message. I chucked the preference files, and still nothing, so I reinstalled the entire Adobe Creative Suite, along with a few restarts and permissions repairs along the way.
I am running an 800 MHz Power PC G4 iMac.
If there's any more information I can give anyone for help, please let me know! I am at a total loss.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Had the same problem for months (on PS CS2 and PS7). Tried absolutely everything and nothing worked - was completely losing hope. Finally, today I found the following forum item at Adobe (no support articles suggest this). Seems a simple "tilde" is the source of all the problems. I never thought it would work - BUT IT DID!!!

    Now, back to Photoshop work.

  • Why does Encore CS6 quit during startup and how can I get it to stop?

I am using Encore CS6 on Mac OSX 10.9.1. After spending all afternoon purchasing, researching and downloading the newest Encore (because CS5 would no longer burn anything on the new operating system), every time I open Encore, it unexpectedly quits. There is no error message, it loads Encore to the point where you can see all the Encore windows, and before asking whether you are opening an existing project or starting a new project, the program quits. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Encore is not supported on that OS, and may not work http://www.adobe.com/products/encore/faq.html

  • Help! Final Cut Pro unexpectedly quits during export.

This couldn't have happened at a worse time. I'm desperate to make a deadline and every time I try export using final cut pro OR compressor the program will unexpectedly quit in the middle of it. It usually happens within 10 minutes of a 40 minute export. I'm just doing a standard quicktime export of an 80 minute long movie. It was working fine only a few days ago. Anyone have any ideas what this might be? We've tried all the normal things, restarting, using final cut rescue, etc.
Not sure what else to say. We are in a huge time crunch and we can't even get it off of the computer and on to another one.
If you need any more info please ask.

Hey thanks for your help! Yes I have tried exporting a self contained movie but everytime it just quits on me. I've tried about 15 times so far. if it is a corrupt render file is there something I can do about that? Ive been trying to render it to the full render in final cut as well before an export but after about 5 minutes final cut quits. So now it quits when I render AND when I export. So ive been going through and rendering 3 minutes at a time, maybe that will help. I dunno.
    thank you again,
    Adam

  • IPhoto unexpectedly quitting during photo import...

it's crazy. I've been using iPhoto or 800 years, I migrate my settings + photos from my 12" Powerbook into my new MacBook Pro with iLife 08... after a few successful import sessions with my Canon Elph (business as usual!) all of a sudden I'm getting "unexpectedly quit" and I can't import. What the heck?
    This happen to anyone?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    start with the basics:
    1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • Failure to fully export pdf from InDesign CS2 (application unexpectedly quits)

I found a TechNote detailing such an issue when you save or export a PDF after the Adobe application has been left idle for several days. However, when I tried both suggested solutions, I was unable to fix the problem. Some say it may be that I have a corrupt file, but the file saves normally and shows no signs of error.
When I try to export a file as a PDF file from InDesign CS2, I don't get an error message when I save the file. I only receive an error message when I try to open the resulting PDF file which has not been fully processed.
The error message I see is as follows:
    * Exporting a PDF file from InDesign CS2: The file appears to save without error, but when I open the file with Acrobat I see the error "Acrobat could not open '[file name]' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF."
Thus, I tried solution 1: upgrading my Mac to Mac OS X v10.5. That didn't work.
Then I tried solution 2: save the file, and then restart the application. That also did not work.
The TechNote goes into further detail, explaining:
"When you save or export PDF files from Photoshop CS2, Acrobat 7, Illustrator CS2, or InDesign CS2, the application must reference the TemporaryItems file located in /tmp/501. Prior to Mac OS X.v10.4, Mac OS X regularly deleted files in the /tmp folder that had not been used or modified within a certain period (approximately two or three days). If an Adobe application is running but unused for several days, Mac OS X prior to version v10.4, would delete the TemporaryItems file. When you save or export a file as PDF, the Adobe application attempts to reference the no-longer existing TemporaryItems file which results in errors or faulty PDF creation.
When you restarting the Adobe application and then save or export a PDF, the application rebuilds the TemporaryItems file."
Does anyone have any other suggestions for a solution to my query?

Similar to you, I've just posted the following in the InDesign section:
Problems writing pdf from InDesign CS2
Hello everyone, I've just gone and bought myself a new 2.4ghz iMac and done all of the updates for Tiger so I'm now running 10.4.11. InDesign CS2 is version 4.0.5.
I have a simple A4 document with 3 placed images which is an updated version of many done previously. I've never had any trouble writing pdf's from them before until tonight on my new Mac. It seems to get about half way through and InDesign quits.
If I print to a pdf file then it's okay, but a bit long winded when you get used to exporting from InDesign.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Trev

  • Unexpected quit from startup

I have had logic for a while but have not used it much but it has always worked fine. Today I was using it and everything was ok and then I quit out and returned about a half hour later and tried to open it up and It just wont start. Every time I open it up, seems to be going fine but right when the logic interface pops up, the application immediately quits unexpectedly. Then I get the option to ignore, report, or relaunch but the relaunch does the same exact thing. I've tried to open it probably a hundred times since and It isn't working.

    What version of Logic?

  • IPhone APPs keep quitting during startup

I have several Apps on my iPhone which, after using once, will quit and return to the home screen upon startup. Has anyone else had this problem?
I have already tried removing and reinstalling the App, which will work once and then quit every time after that until I reinstall it.
    Any Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

  • Aperture unexpectedly quitting on startup

    Hi All,
Just tried to open Aperture for the first time this new year and it keeps quitting after about ten second in without me having done anything. I then get the "Aperture quit unexpectedly" message.
This is the first time I've used it this new year, everything was working fine yesterday. Could it be something to do with the year rolling over from 2013 to 2014???? Anyone else experiencing this as of today?
    Regards,
    Dave.

Could it be something to do with the year rolling over from 2013 to 2014???? Anyone else experiencing this as of today?
I don't think so, Dave. There is nothing special about this years number.
my Aperture survived the New Year's celebrations and relaunched just fine this morning.
What else changed between the years? Did you install any updates or import new images?
Is there an error log with the error message?
Then post the first 50 lines, please.
    Happy New Year!

  • 10.4.6 - Adobe InDesign 2.0.2 quits during launch

Since the OS X 10.4.6 update, Adobe InDesign 2.0.2 crashes on launch. It seems to be crashing while scanning for plug-ins, which occurs early in the application launch process...Any ideas? I've repaired permissions and run Tiger Cache Cleaner...Perhaps the InDesign Plug-ins need to be reinstalled...
I'm still testing, but all other Adobe applications are launching just fine, though I have had to reinstall a few others, including iGlasses (for iSight) and Flip4Mac WMV, which stopped working from within Safari.

Mine is doing the exact same thing. This is an Apple problem not an Adobe problem. Now I have work due and and can't open InDesign. Can you say screwed? I can
