Indesign 2014 CC, epub3-file Ipad good, but in Adobe Digital Editions bad
From Indesign I generated an epub3-file with the latest release CC 2014. The resulting ebook is splendid on an iPad . However, to my surprise the performance in Adobe Digital Editions is very poor. The text appears far to big on the screen and can not be reduced in ADE. Is this a problem of ADE or of Indesign? Those anyone knows a solution to tackle this?
In the meantime try Readium for Chrome…
Or a Mac with OSX 9 and the iBooks app with that.

Mid November I purchased an iMac Lion and downloaded Adobe Digital editions for Macs. The download went smoothly but I cannot get the ebooks from my library to open in Adobe Digital Editions. I still have my Dell PC and can (and unfortunately still have to) download the ebooks into ADE and from there to iTunes and onto my iPad. I've uninstalled and reinstalled ADE and it doesn't appear to be the problem. The downloaded ascm books appear to be in the top right corner of the toolbar but just will not open in ADE. ADE is supposed to open automatically with the book download, and does on the PC, but not on the iMac. I've even tried dragging and dropping the files into ADE but nothing works. Does anyone have the solution? Thank you.
macbook Pro
OS X Yosemite
files are saved on my desktop and also on a external back up drive .
printer is working fine .. all my ai files open as long as i open with Adobe illustrator C (17.1) and not the newest update see screen shot below -
downloaded Adobe Digital Editions 4, and registered computer, verified email and then downloaded e-book from retailer, but the acmsfile does not want to open.
This is very frustratingSince Re-activation as suggested by the link above is not working for you, Can you please confirm the following:
The OperatorURL is reachable. ( you can find the operatorURL from the acsm file by opening it in notepad, etc)
And Book is still available on the book-store for purchase.
(If any of first two are not available, you might have to talk to distributor for next action item to get the book. Since you will have record of purchasing the book, (in my opinion) they should provide you the new token for downloading the book)
And please confirm this that you used the same userID for downloading that you used when you first fulfilled/downloaded the book.
(If it is the case, then you have to use the correct userID)
I hope it helps. -
Hi my name is Catherine I have downloaded digital editions and a book to my PC but wish to read this on an iPad. I have downloaded Digital Editions on the iPad and don't know how to authorize it. Will the book automatically download onto the iPad once tihis is done and I open my account on the iPad?
YOu can also use Bluefire Reader for reading books that need an Adobe ID. There are several ways to transfer a book to your iPad. One way is to email the acsm file, open the email on the iPad, and "Open in ... ". Another way is to use an app like Dropbox. The third way is to connect your iPad to your computer, open iTunes, select the iPad, and under Settings select Apps. Scroll down to the File Sharing apps, select the app you want the book on, on the right select Add, navigate to where the book is on your computer, and select it. Open the app on your iPad and it should load.

I exported a pdf file to word but i can't edit
I exported a pdf file to word but i can't edit. What am I doing wrong?
Hi hc69,
You're most likely doing nothing wrong! For starters, please try triple-clicking in the text that you want to edit in Word.
If that doesn't work, it may be that the PDF was created from a scanned page, and that OCR (optical character recognition) wasn't performed on that PDF to convert the scanned/image text to selectable/editable text. OCR is enabled by default when you convert via the ExportPDF website, but can be disabled in Reader. Please see How to disable Optical Character Recognition (O... | Adobe Community to make sure OCR is enabled.
Let's start there. If neither of those solutions work, we can take it from there.
Best,

how do i open acsm file on my windows pc? i downloaded adobe digital edition, but it says error, check valuation?
thanks in advanceI'm wondering if that is similar to the issue I've encountered before, where the file association for acsm is not to ADE but a certificate file. If you could try right clicking on the acsm and 'open with' and search for ADE and make sure 'always open with this' is check marked, that may, I repeat may, help.
If you've already done this, I don't know what to say, that's just what I've seen. -
I downloaded adobe digital editions on my ipad but cant access my library (from my pc)

InDesign CS5.5 EPUB export not showing cover image in Adobe Digital Editions
I have a document that I am trying to ensure is reflecting the cover image prior to uploading to several EPUB sites like google and Barnes and Noble. I am using Adobe Digital Editions, Calibre, Firefox (EPUBReader) to do the troubleshooting on the document. Calibre shows the cover image Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) does not. Are their any known problems with ADE not reflecting the cover image that I need to be aware of before I continue working on this?
The ADE help says the following:
"Once the items are in your library, there are two ways to view the content of any bookshelf. You can view thumbnails of your items. The thumbnail is the cover page of the item (or just the first page if it doesn't have a cover page). In this view, you see the set of thumbnails and some information about each item (author, title). You can also sort the order in which the items are shown by author, title, date created, number of pages, and so forth."
Here is basic informaiton. I have a cover page in my export to EPUB but ADE will only show the first page. Again Calibre shows the cover page.
CS 5.5
The project is a book (indb) composed of multiple documents (indd)
Exporting as book as an EPUB
On general tab I am "Use existing image"
I am rasterizing the first image in Indesign via the "Object - Object export options" but I am not selecting that option when on the general tab of the Export to EPUB options. I am chosing a file from my disk. I thought that maybe the file name was too long but I changed the image to "cover.jpg" and reexported it but it still does not work.
Here are the contents of the content.opf file with all the pointers. I have updated the file as I believe you can tell with guides, creation date, etc....
It passes the SIGIL check.
The image name is Democracy in Business Dust Jacket 300dpi.jpg. It is 300 dpi and 1650 x 2550. I could also cut in the one that I did for cover.jpg but it only replaces the file name.

I have also been trying to get this cover image to display on PC for NOOK but it appears that everyone is having hits problem too. I have followed some trouble shooting guides and renamed the jpg image, Democracy in Business Dust Jacket 300dpi.jpg to cover.jpg but that doesn't seem to work either for NOOK.
Any help you can give would be appreciated. I am new to InDesign (I know you probably hate hearing that, but I have gotten so close to being done overcoming all the new user hurdles). I think this is my last one before uploading to the appropriate sites - PS. I got the cover page to show up on the Kindle but not Adobe's own product.
Thanks
Peter E. Greulichebookjunkie, I have just used InDesign to publish two very short "books" (.99 cent variety) and started this thread with the first question. Look to Bob for the expert advice. This is neophyte advice from someone moving from publishing a full book using Word to EPUB/Kindle and now using InDesign to publish to EPUB/Kindle.
First ADE is useless. I say this out of frustration of trying to use it to troubleshoot problems and it has so many problems in displaying an EPUB that you spend a lot of time troubleshooting ADE issues rather than EPUB problems. The problems are not limited to but won't display a cover page properly, text wrapping is iffy, Drop caps a problem, bringing over supported items like drop caps, all small caps, etc.... are also issues as best I can tell. Humble opinion is delete off your desktop. I use the following to troubleshoot my EPUB's/Kindle books on my Windows platform; Calibre, Barnes and Noble's Nook for PC and iPhone iTunes for EPUB (Sigil to look for errors); and for Kindle, Kindle previewer and Kindle for the PC. Even after doing this, I just today saw my book a buyer's Android "Reader" and the pictures did not display at all. So it is publish once and test everywhere! Unfortunately, you just can't test all the possible devices and iterations of readers. (I am from IBM and we couldn't do it, so how publishers are supposed to figure it out is beyond me!)
On the absolutely great news end, you will see a lot of problems about placing images on the iPad with a lot of workarounds. They apparently (Apple) have fixed this as my two publications show images nicely now on both the iPhone and iPad with the iTunes bookshelf/reader. They were "microdots" when viewed previously. I did nothing to fix it and was just not going to publish to the iPAd and just tested them a few weeks ago and they display perfectly. So Apple has fixed the problem. If it looks good on the Nook for PC, it should look good on the iPAD/iPhone now as best I can tell.
Cheers

How do I install Adobe digital editions on my iPad?
How do I install Adobe digital editions on my iPad?
I have an IPad Air 2, iOS 8.1.2. I ordered some ebooks that required the download of Adobe Digital Editions. I select the supplied link to the Adobe site, select download, and I am given the option of windows or Mac OS. I wandered through the site and even googled an iOS version with no luck. I thought maybe the Mac OS version might be universal to apple products so I downloaded it and tried to open it in One Note, One Drive, and Google My Drive with no luck. The .dmg file is not recognized. So, I'm back to looking for an iOS version. Is there one?You can find an iPad version of Adobe Digital Editions in the app store on the iPad. I was able to download it and install it tonight. I followed the instructions in the included User's Guide to copy a book that I had first downloaded to my Mac over to DropBox. From the DropBox app on the iPad, I opened the book with ADE successfully. You might also look at the BlueFire reader; I've seen that recommended a number of places. I was just able to open the same book from DropBox in BlueFire. For both ADE and BlueFire, you will have to authorize your iPad to Adobe with an Adobe ID and pw. Good luck.

ACSM files cause Adobe Digital Editions to crash
So, I've been reading these forums trying to find an answer, but I haven't read about someone with the same problem. (If you know of a discussion where a solution was already posted, please link me if possible.) So, I decided to post this issue and see if anyone has some ideas about what to do.
I'm running OS 10.6.8 and the most recent Adobe Digital Editions. ADE can open/download some acsm files perfectly fine. However, for many, the application unexpectedly quits as soon as I try to open the acsm file. I know it's not the file, since I can send the file to someone else who uses the same computer and ADE version, and he can open the acsm just fine. I also know it's probably not ADE itself or my connection/firewall/etc., since I can open/download other acsm files perfectly fine. However, there seems to be a large number of acsm files that simply won't work for me and cause ADE to quit unexpectedly. Like I said, these same files work for someone else running the same version of ADE. Where should I look for the problem? These are not public library books. I do research at a graduate school, and these are ebooks that my school has paid for (the tech people there have been unable to help me). The person I sent the acsm files to test is not part of the institution, and yet he can still open the acsm files that I downloaded but can't open. So, I don't think it has to do with authorization either.
Does anyone have some trobleshooting suggestions beyond what I've just enumerated? Yes, I have uninstalled it and redownloaded it several times, along with essentially every other suggestion I've read on the forums, and still, many acsm files simply cause ADE to unexpectedly quit. If someone really wants, I can paste the entire error message that's given when it unexpectedly quits.
Thanks for any help.I have the 4.0.3 version and when i open the ACSM I get the "fulfilling license" window and then it crashes. i have uninstalled, reinstalled, authorized & deauthorized ADE. I tried to use my Overdrive account ID to authorize ADE, but when i downloaded a book, i got an error message so i deauthorized and authorized under my ADE. i have a mac with OX SY Yosemite version 10.10.2 .

Adobe Digital Editions workaround for iPad
Hi all. There are numerous posts regarding this but I thought I'd throw out another. After searching for a couple days on how to read an eBook that I purchased through Kobo that required adobe digital editions, I found this website explaining how to read the URLLink.acsm file on my iPad.
Go to this site and follow the directions. Took all of 5 mins to set things up and now I can read the books on my iPad. It was pretty easy.
http://libraryfit.wordpress.com/2010/10/12/books-downloaded-to-adobe-digital-editions-can- be-transferred-to-ipad-iphone-ipod-touch-as-well-as-android-devices/
Hope this helps.
Enjoy! To clarify, you're not reading any URLlink.ascm file. That file is just a
pointer to the ebook/epublication, and contains some additional information
about the epub file it points to. Other ereader software can handle them as
well as ADE, and some of those, such as the ones Jim Lester mentions, work
with the Android OS, while ADE does not....

Does the ipad support adobe digital editions?
I would like to publish my book as a digital edition for iPad. However, the book is a PDF which comes out beautifully on Adobe Digital Editions, and I can not find any information about whether ADE is compatible with the iPad or iPhone. This leads me to believe it isn't. Kindle does not support PDF, either. Can't ADE just be downloaded to iPad or iPhone and then just used to when a book is purchased in a PDF?
Any info. will be greatly appreciate. No, there isn't anything on the ipad that can display these files and I'm not aware that adobe has given any indication that there will be. There are many other pdf readers, but they can't open ADE files.

I have updated my adobe digital editions but application not recognizing it, can't open epub book
What Adobe Digital app on your iPad? If you are talking about a third-party app (like Bluefire Reader) you need to connect your iPad to your computer, open iTunes, select the iPad, and select Apps in the Sidebar. Scroll down to the File Sharing section, select the app you plan on using, select Add (bottom right), navigate to where the book is on your computer, select the book and sync your iPad.

Epub export indesign launches 'itunes store' not Adobe Digital Editions 2.0
How can I set Indesign to launch Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 as my default epub preview reader?
Mr Fox sir! I am trying to make a book for nook sir! Not an ipad, that would not do sir!Dear Ellis,
I have been using paragraph returns for the spacing but I will try adding the Space before/Space After feature to see if that works better.
I'm taking my text from other word processing documents and shortening/breaking the paragraphs into smaller units for easier reading in ePub. It's easy and natural for me to hit a paragraph return where I want to break and form a new paragraph, and then insert a forced line break -- but I can try your suggestions.
I was just wondering why the system worked for me when reading on the iPod but Adobe Digital Reader did not seem to recognize the forced line break at all and only recognized the paragraph return if it was inserted AFTER the forced line break and not BEFORE it. Inserting the paragraph return AFTER the forced line break makes everything work on both units.

Imovie locks up/crashes every time I drop a film clip into the project
Almost every time that I drop in a film clip to my current project, iMovie locks up and crashes producing a long readout for Apple. I've made plenty of projects, but this one is due by Friday. I have to keep waiting to close it and go back in. Ever
