InDesign 3.0.1 - Invalid serial number

I'm trying to install InDesign 3.0.1 on my laptop (my desktop has it, I use it all of the time, but its about to die). I'm trying to install it on my laptop, but I am getting an invalid Serial Number error, and its not letting me proceed. HELP! This is legit software, yes I know its old, but how do I install if it won't accept the serial number?

First make sure you are using the serial number for the software and not for some other element.
To locate the serial number:

Acrobat 8 3D "invalid serial number" message

I'm getting the message, "You have entered an invalid serial number. Please reinstall Adobe Acrobat 8 professional and enter in a valid serial number when asked."
However, the fixes on the Adobe forums for this problem state that it occurs due to Creative Suite 3 (CS3) installations, but I haven't had the CS3 installed on this Windows XP SP2 machine.
I only have standalone InDesign CS3 installed, not the suite. I had the beta standalone IDCS3 installed, and uninstalled it before installing the shipping version.
I had the shipping version of FrameMaker 8 standalone installed. I uninstalled it before installing the beta Technical Communications Suite (TCS). I uninstalled it, restarted Windows XP SP2, then installed the shipping version of TCS, registered it, and authorized it.
With the exception of Acrobat 8 3D, the TCS applications run fine.
I've tried repairing the Acrobat 8 3D component of TCS, and also tried updating to 8.1.1, but no change in the message.
I've only found solutions for the invalid license error that relate to CS3, not TCS.
Before I uninstall TCS, which takes over an hour, and then run the CS3 cleanup script at level 2 - the Adobe knowledgebase recommendation, I'd like to know if this procedure has been successful for anyone who has had the problem, but hadn't installed CS3. I don't want to find out that running the CS3 cleanup script level 2 causes damage because the suite isn't and wasn't installed.
Has anyone done this?

If only the bug lists would honor these brave souls by naming the bug discovery after them, as well as identifying them with prosaic bug-database numbers<G>. Your solution was very helpful. Here are some notes that may be helpful to others. I'm also reporting this to the beta program. * Removing TCS with Add/Remove Programs didn't fix it. In addition, somehow, although TCS was removed from the application list in A/R, it seemed to be on my system, even after restarting the computer and Windows! I could launch some of the applications, but because it seemed so uncertain, I didn't want to stop at this point and pray nothing would go wrong later. * I ran Microsoft Install Repair Utility, which seemed not to do much. * I rebooted and reinstalled TCS, but had the same problem with Acrobat 3D, so I figured the cleaning wasn't complete. So I uninstalled it, then ran Microsoft Install Repair again, after which... * I copied a bunch of settings files and third-party scripts and plug-ins from Programs/Application Support/Adobe, and my User/Application Support/Adobe folders for the installed ID CS3, and also zipped the whole installation to preserve any information I might need to recover or information about where things need to go in the directory tree, before uninstalling InDesign CS3 and InCopy CS3. Then I ran the Adobe clean-up script level 2, which ran the Microsoft utility. Just to be "extra careful," I ran the Microsoft utility separately; This time it proposed to remove itself! Must be something to do with having nothing left to clean up? Removing it results in the Adobe cleanup script level 2 reporting that the utility isn't installed, needs to be, and quits. Circles within circles - confusing in its helpful way, or helpful in its confusing way. * I ran the Adobe CS3 Clean Up Script level 2, in the preview mode, to see what it planned to do. It proposed to remove InDesign and InCopy CS3 directories, so I removed them before proceeding. * Finally, ran the CS3 clean up script level 2 for real, rebooted, installed TCS, gave the serial number, and was back in business...almost. - Applications launched OK, including Acrobat 8 3D, but, attempting to save a FM document as PDF displayed an error that Distiller couldn't run because Acrobat 8 3D wasn't activated (even though the TCS activation was working for all apps in the suite). While I was doing another slow burn because this was a reprise of one of the problems that sent me on this Odyssey hours and days earlier, Lo! and Behold!, Distiller launched, then Acrobat opened to display the PDF. I'm guessing that Acrobat 8 wasn't *running* at the time I did Save As PDF, so the error was an error in detecting Acrobat. Man! * I was going to leave out the part where I mistakenly entered the beta-test serial number when launching the new TCS installation, which was accepted and worked up to the point that the validator closed the application! The only solution was to uninstall, run MS utility for good luck, pray, and reinstall, which was successful. I provided the correct serial number, and am back in business. This is pilot error, but it reveals a bug that should be fixed - the application should not give a green check mark (valid serial) indicator to a timed-out serial number. The serial should be invalid if it is invalid. Another bug is that the option to activate the suite by checking an application in the final screen should not provide check boxes for the three applications - the check boxes should be radio buttons. Checking multiple applications opens each checked application and prompts for validation. Very confusing!!! Hoping that this helps others stay out of trouble, or that this helps them find solutions. How many digits are in the serial number you are trying to use?

Acrobat XI Invalid Serial Number After Failed Install

Hello,
We currently have Adobe Acrobat XI on an enterprise license. I went to install this on 3 of our Windows 7 tablets. Prior to my attempt, I removed Adobe Reader XI which is what I always do. After that I started the installer on the machine and entered the key just fine. All 3 tablets got stuck around 96-97% and failed with an error 1935. I then followed the instructions located here:

Following a reboot, I tried to install again and now I am receiving the "Invalid Serial Number" error when trying to click "Next" on the installer. It won't even let me choose install trial and go. The next button does nothing when selecting trial. I tried running the offical Adobe Acrobat Cleaner and the Adobe CS6 cleaner (since Acrobat XI is part of CS6 technically). Both programs found items to delete but following a reboot I'm still receiving the same error. I also have other XI enterprise serials available and none of them work. I have a feeling something happened on the tablets that is causing the installer to think it's the wrong version or type for those serial numbers.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Invalid serial number error message when installing Acrobat 7

I have my original software CD and serial number but understand that I need to use the downloaded program because Adobe no longer supports the activation code required for installing from the disc. I was under the impression that I was to use the original serial number. This is what I used when reinstalling my CS2 Photoshop in the same circumstances.
I downloaded 22001904.exe and ran it but when it gets to the serial number I receive invalid serial number message no matter how I enter the number. I even tried cutting and pasting from my Adobe profile, since I have registered the program w/ Adobe previously along with other Adobe programs.
Can you advise me how to proceed?

no, use the serial number listed on the page where you downloaded acrobat 7, not your acrobat serial number

When I restored my new computer from the time machine, the software was transfer to the new machine, in the past when double clicking the icon it would come up and ask for the serial numbers. This time was the same with the exception of:
I did not enter an invalid serial number, I tried all the numbers I have. But none of them worked.
I will try to install from discs.

Photoshop CS2- Invalid Serial Number

I am installing my Adobe Photoshop CS2 on Windows Vista.
When I try to install the program after entering my serial number that is on the CD case,
the program states "Invalid Serial Number."
Customer Service gave me new serial numbers to attempt at fixing this issue and those numbers still yielded an "Invalid Serial Number" error.
Tech Support had me create new accounts with admin rights on my laptop (which didn't work) and then gave me a link
about the issue that had nothing to do with me since I have no VCOM software on my laptop (so that too was bogus).
I requested to speak to a manager where the agent diverted with giving me solutions that did not work also in which
he had me use this registry cleaner software and it still didn't work (I didn't have previous adobe software on my computer,
so it wasn't a surprise that it didn't work)
So... Does anyone know how I can install my program on my laptop without getting an Invalid Serial Number error?????

I've only had similar happen once, when I upgraded AI over about 3-4 versions. My S/N was from the first PC release, and the internal database in the upgrade did not recognize the format, or the S/N. In that case, a 5 min. call to C/S resulted in a number to enter from Adobe, and then it took my S/N fine.
Obviously, you've gone that route, and it's not working. Seems that things have changed with C/S, but I am talking over a decade ago. Are you talking to C/S (Customer Service), or T/S (Technical Service)? For "sales" related things, I have found that C/S is the better. I am assuming that they are still separate departments, though both might well be in India.
Now, one question, you say that C/S told you to run on one machine with "administrative rights." Did you try as an Administrator? These are similar, but there can be differences.
Wish I had something else to offer.

Adobe Photoshop cs4 extended invalid serial number

I just bought adobe photoshop cs4 extended from a large retail computer store.I had the trial version of photoshop cs4 extended.I uninstalled the trial version and installed from dvd.I got a Invalid serial number error.I am sure there was a software configuration problem .The reason ,the disk needs to verfy that you have the original disk,If that happens ,After installation ,Just delete this file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe PCD\cache\cache.db This is the location where it installed the serial . After deleteing it will create a new cache.db file and store the serial there that goes with that disk . When you open PS cs4 it will ask to enter serial again.Just enter the serial again that came with box ..I guess this would work also with adobe photoshop cs4

I encountered the same problem with Photoshop CS5 - I had the trial version installed, and now bought the extended version, but it keeps saying the license key is invalid. I did unistall, ran the cleanup tool, but it is still not working. Any help is appreciated.

I've recently got a new computer and decided to reinstall my old wacom bamboo drawing tablet that came Photoshop elements 8. Setting up the tablet was no problem but when i try do download the program it just says invalid serial number. I've tried the code on the back of the tablet multiple times but it never worked. Photoshop Elements "Invalid Serial Number"

I recently did a Windows 8 refresh, which uninstalled my Photoshop and Premiere Elements. Now, when I download using the Adobe Download Assisstant and try to enter the serial number displayed in my account under products, it says Invalid Serial Number, this is not a valid serial number, please go back and reenter your number. I don't have a box or CD, because Photoshop and Premiere came preinstalled on my computer. HELP!

I've checked the details on your account and from the looks of it you are using the wrong installer. As in your case Elements was preinstalled on your system, I would request you to reach out to the hardware manufacturer and request them to provide you a copy of the software.

If the serial number is from Adobe website then all you need to do is to copy and paste it in your PSE so that there isn't any error in copying the serial number and inserting it manually in PSE.

Installing new Retail version of Photoshop Elements, receive Invalid Serial Number

I purchased a new Box retail version of Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements 12 and before installing I am asked for the Serial Number. I enter it from the box but I get a message that says it is invalid serial number. How can that be if that is what is on the Box.

Hi Everyone,
I was able to solve it myself and in way should have provided more information. I was installing the software under the local Admin which in my Domain does not have internet access through our Proxy.
Once I logged on with my Domain Admin and tried to install the software, it worked with out problems. I was not aware that the computer needed access to the Internet to verify the Serial Number.
