InDesign 5.0.4 CS 3  (Leopard) Imposing probem

I am trying to print a Booklet and either in normal "Print" or in "Print Booklet" the position of the print is off. I use a EPSON SP 9600. And it did work earlier, but now it's gone. (Unfortunately I cannot recall, if it startd failing with Upgrade to 10.5.5) On an A3+ paper A4- double pages are 4 mm off to the right (everything, marks, images, text). I created my own papersize with 0 mm frame, did not help. I use "defined by driver" and Papersetting: centered" in the Print dialog. Anyone has an idea, where the problem could be? Many Thanks.

Do you have the Titler panel open? If so, try closing it before quitting and see if this prevents the crash on quit. I see that we have an open bug regarding a crash on quit when the Titler panel is open.
If this isn't the issue that you're seeing, please file a bug report.

  • How can I restore proper PDF exports from InDesign CS3 or CS5 in Snow Leopard?

I had no problems exporting PDFs from InDesign CS3 (on a Mac Pro running 10.6.4 Snow Leopard) until this past weekend, when all the fonts appeared bitmapped or thin and raggedy, and the images lost some color depth and contrast. When I copied the InDesign document to my MacBook Pro laptop, also running 10.6.4, the PDF emerged with its original quality. Calls to Adobe support referred me to documents concerning incompatibilities between InDesign and Snow Leopard. One of these documents was several pages long, but I could not print it from the Adobe website to my HP All-In-One Officejet, because one-third of the document was hidden under a white panel. This makes the document impractical for troubleshooting, because I don't have enough screen real estate (even on a 23-inch display) to keep the document open along with all the pages and dialogue boxes needed for reference. Back to phone and chat support, I was advised to upgrade my Creative Suite Premium CS3 to CS5 ($800!!!) and purchase the latest Acrobat Pro upgrade ($200), with no guarantee that this $1,000 cost would actually solve the problem. I did download the trial version of InDesign CS5, and it did NOT solve the problem. I'm also concerned that the problem did not exist until last weekend. Prior to that, my CS3 and Snow Leopard combination worked just fine. I then checked the forums and was dismayed at the variety of problems associated with PDF files, for which there seems to be no general fix. Meanwhile, I have hundreds of ads I'm supposed to be preparing and emailing as PDF proofs to businesses around the country. I have two books of 120 and 256 pages that need to be submitted to printers in PDF format with all kinds of fonts and image files belonging to my clients. The last time I submitted a book to a printer via email, the job went perfectly. This time, and next, it's obvious I won't be able to send PDFs at all! If that's the case, my 27-year-old directory business will be unable to absorb the expenses necessary to start all over with new computers and software, and I will be out of business. Period. So-- does anyone have a way to fix this? I would surely be grateful.

I'm on a local network, built on Apple's Airport Extreme. but I'm the only computer user on it. I use it for transferring files between the desktop computer (Apple Mac Pro) and laptop (Apple MacBook Pro) and, occasionally, to print from the laptop to a Xerox Phaser printer.
About a year ago, I added an Apple Airport Express to the network, allowing me to play iTunes music from the laptop through a Panasonic BluRay player connected to a home theatre sound system. No problems of this nature appeared with that installation.
About four months ago, we connected a DirecTV satellite receiver system to the D-Link router that carries wired network service from the desktop computer to the Xerox printer. The satellite TV system includes a series of modems that allows DVR recordings to be accessed and played from any of the TVs in the house. (As you would now perceive, I run my publishing business from my home). However, this set-up has been functioning for about four months, and I did not encounter the PDF problem until last weekend.
    Now -- about the fonts.
Because of the many ads that I publish from various sponsors, it is possible that different versions of the same fonts have invaded my system. In the "missing font" alerts I get, InDesign frequently is seeking TT or T1 versions, which I replace with Adobe fonts when possible. Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium included a fairly large collection, which it keeps in one folder.  The Apple OS also includes a bunch in a separate font management folder; and there are carry-over fonts that came with the business when I acquired it 10 years ago. Some of those fonts may go back 25 years to the book's inception. However, in the past several years, I have generally rebuilt all the ads that appear in my publications, substituting newer versions of fonts. Hence, the preflight program has been able to locate and include all the necessary fonts in the packages that go to the printers.
Once again, I have been able to export good PDF files for all the varieties of ads and books included in my system, until last weekend. One of the documents is built entirely with Helvetica Narrow, for which I have only one version.. Another document consists mainly of Times, and there are 3 or 4 versions of that font in the system; but the version contained in the document has not changed from when it exported properly.
So... I guess the complexities involved in the network and/or fonts could be part of the problem, as you suggest, but golly -- I hope not. The last thing I want to do is disrupt and rebuild the network or font collections. The font situation especially would set back production for months if not years, because so many individual ads and off-site clients would be involved in the process.
I'm sorry if I provided more details than you expected. I didn't mean to take so much of your time.
    Thank you.

  • InDesign CC 2013 Trial Link - Snow Leopard

    Hi there
I want to trial InDesign CC but have a Mac running Snow Leopard. Is there a link somewhere to download a trial for the pre-2014 version?
I don't want to upgrade my OS at the moment but might want to sign-up for CC for my student work.
    Many thanks!

    Hi
I had a pal who ran it just a few months ago on Snow Leopard so thought it might be the update that would cause it not to?
Has anyone else ran it on SL?
Such a pain to have to upgrade my OS!!
    Thanks,

  • InDesign CS5 lag slow on Snow Leopard 10.6

I am reaching the end of patience with this one and starting to wish i'd not paid for a CS5 upgrade.
I installed under Mac OS 10.5 originally, did all updates and had font and other deathly slow issues in Photoshop.
In the end, I enacted a TOTAL system maintenance routine and upgraded to System 10.6 in order to try and get round probs with CS5.
I since have ditched all prefs, reset all caches, cleared all logs, done total font checks and removed a couple of corrupt ones, repaired disk permissions etc etc etc....  Photoshop 'appears' to work ok, although saving and saving to web can be sluggish (pizza wheel waiting for it....)
InDesign CS5 is now taxing my productivity. I thought it was my Wacom Intuous 3 tablet, but find the issue (at the mo as I've not noticed anything significant yet in Illustrator or Photoshop) only occurs with InDesign CS5.
The issue is the glitchy interface - stepped or delayed movements of objects across the page, selecting menu dialogue boxes can take a second when i click on a value, slightly steppy movements make selecting the tiny up and down arrows on some menus very tricky to be accurate.  PLUS saving and saving PDFs in particular as well as PLACE images CMD-D can be deathly slow.  It used to be almost instaneous, slowed only by the hard drive firing up. Now i try to do things and have to wait on many actions. It's doing my head in!  This is NOT PRODUCTIVE.
In InDesign i have tried turning off Live Redraw, dropping display quality to fast (makes working almost impossible as i need to see what i'm doing), and disabled the Preflight option that is on by default, and i'm sure other options too i've seen on forums.  But no better.
I have a Quad Core 3Ghz Intel Mac with 14Gb RAM, and an NIVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT graphics card.
IS this APPLE or ADOBE issue?  How on earth can i get my speedy productivity back so i can move around the screen smoothly, save and place quickly, and select menu dialogues without waiting for it to react..... HELP!

thanks for the heads-up Peter.  Id not have thought to deactivate Adobe stuff first.
I've ordered a new WD Caviar Black (larger cache than i have on current drive) so a slight upgrade of drive, and as you say, a preserved backup.  I dont have any spare bays in my Mac as i've filled them with other drives used for backups and other stuff, so i may need to buy an external case for the SATA i'm taking out.  No matter, it will be sorted this weekend.
thanks all for help. fingers crossed this rather drastic step works!
Glad I thought of it. However, if you're keeping the drive, and don't have other installations, you can keep the backup drive installations active if you'll have a use for them if you boot from that drive. With your slow performance issues, you'll probably not want to use InDesign on that drive, but perhaps you'd want to use some other rarely-used apps from that drive. Yes, space, the final frontier.
OWC has USB drive adapters that work with many types of drives, including SATA, for about $30. They're open gizmos - no enclosure, no power supply, no fan, etc. They also have notebook-sized (2.5") drives up to 1TB  with USB portable enclosures under $200, less for smaller.
Consider an extra empty drive for use with Time Machine, as an ongoing automatic backup. It's very comforting. An alternative or supplement is yet another drive that you use with Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper, inexpensive shareware, that make complete and/or incremental backups, on demand or on schedule. I use Time Machine to back up a Time Capsule drive - wired or wirelessly - and CarbonCopy Cloner to back up to a portable USB drive that's Velcro'd onto the top case of my MacBook Pro.
Oh, and for suspenders to go with my two belts, or maybe that's a belt to go with my two suspenders, I also use Carbonite online backup - wirelessly or wired, about $5/month for unlimited storage. Their gotcha is that data is kept while it's on your drive, and then they delete it from your storage 30 days after you delete it from your drive. I had tried other online storage - Mozy, and some others, but at that time, about a year ago, they didn't work reliably. Probably better now. Not sure if they keep data after you delete it from your drive, or for how long after you delete it. I think also that some online storers define "unlimited" differently.

  • IDCS3 on Leopard: Quick Apply crashes InDesign every time

I haven't been able to use Quick Apply in ages, and I really miss it. InDesign crashes instantaneously every time I try to access Quick Apply. Deleting my preferences doesn't fix it. Changing the keyboard shortcut from command-return doesn't fix it. Selecting Quick Apply from the Edit menu instead of using the keyboard crashes too.
Quick Apply works fine in InDesign CS2 running on the same Leopard system.
Any ideas? I'm really reluctant to reinstall, and honestly I don't really expect that to fix it.
InDesign CS3, 5.0.2, OS X Leopard (10.5.2, all updates applied).

No problem here with Quick Apply. OS 10.5.2, IDCS3 5.02.
Since I've removed version cue and disabled default Folder for InDesign my crash problems have (almost) gone away

  • Does InDesign CS2 work with Snow Leopard

I know, I know, I should be using CS4 but a client insists on sticking with CS2 and files made in newer versions aren't compatible with CS2.
So, can anyone tell me if InDesign CS2 will work with Snow Leopard? It's only InDesign I'm worried about - I have current versions of Photoshop etc.
    Thanks
    Phil

InDesign 4.0.5 is causing me real problems on Snow Leopard, and I'm considering rolling back to Leopard (which worked fine) unless there is a fix to this soon. As well as the disappearing text display problem that others have mentioned, InDesign is very hit and miss when it comes to exporting PDFs - often hanging during the process and then crashing. Error message is posted below. For me, this makes CS2 unusable, but I have a number of ongoing projects that have to remain in this format!

  • Setting Default Indesign program with multiple versions installed Snow Leopard

    Hi,
when having 2 versions of Indesign installed (CS4 and CS5), Snow Leopard uses CS5 as the default application to open INDD files.
Typically if you want to set a particular program as the default program, you right-click on the file, go to "get Info", then "open with" and pick the applications from the pulldown menu and then click right below it "Change All". Typically now that program has become the default program. This has worked all the time except in this case. When trying to set Indesign CS4 as the default program for all INDD files (use CS4 99% of the time and all INDD files on the system were created using CS4) it will not let me use the "change all" button. It automatically goes back to CS5. I want Indesign CS4 to be the default program.
    Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Change file associations manually or have this freebie jewel do it for you. Most likely CS5 will take over again. Otherwise you can go fish on http://hints.macworld.com/ for another way.

  • InDesign CS3 & Leopard - Continual crashing all the time!

3 months ago (Jan 2008) when Adobe released update 5.0.2 to InDesign CS3, the release notes read:-
"This update does not address recently identified issues running Adobe InDesign CS3 on Mac OS
X Leopard (v10.5.1). Known issues include the following:
    • Users are unable to hide InDesign CS3 using the cmd+h keyboard shortcut.
    • InDesign CS3 may unexpectedly quit when using the Place, Save, Save As or Export
commands using either the OS or Adobe dialog boxes.
Unfortunately, there are no workarounds for these known issues. Adobe and Apple are working
closely to provide fixes. Initial testing indicates that these fixes should be provided through an
update to Mac OS X Leopard. Consequently, it is not part of the InDesign CS3 5.0.2 update.
No public schedule for these fixes is available at this time, but both companies understand their
urgency and are working to address this."
It's just as bad (if not worse) in 10.5.2. 3 months and no solution. No word from Apple, even though my work G5 is submitting several crash reports per day to both Adobe and Apple.
If anyone from Apple reads these lists, could they confirm they are going to fix this, or do I revert to Tiger, trash Leopard completely.
    <post edited by host>

Hey, I've also been having the same issues with InDesign CS3 since installing Leopard on my iMac G5 PPC... have reinstalled said OS and software 4 times now... but still getting crashes and the dreaded 'serious error...InDesign is shutting down...' warnings when relinking, replacing and exporting (sometimes when saving too) in ID.
It seems there are so many of us having these problems, so at least it isn't user/machine-specific (unless I need more RAM..). However, one of the support guys at Apple (UK) gave me another helpful (temporary) fix, which works until they fix it PROPERLY. I tried working from the Desktop and cutting/pasting everything into a new file, but this one works better:
Quit ID, go to your User (the house symbol)>Library>Caches>Adobe InDesign>Version 5>'InDesign Saved Data' and add '.old' onto this file or just drag it to the Desktop.
Then go to Library>Preferences>Adobe InDesign>Version 5>'InDesign Defaults' and add '.old' onto that file as well or drag it to the Desktop.
Then restart ID and you'll notice your preferences are back to default (i.e. picas instead of mm/inches etc.) and no more crashes - until you start changing the prefs again....
The other tip was that the account you work from has become corrupted, but I found the above fix works for a while. Hope that's helped, but like the rest of you, this problem is wasting valuable working time and needs sorting ASAP.

  • Indesign CS3 - Leopard Printing to Xerox 7000ap

I don't know if this is a bug with Indesign but I've recently got Leopard and when I print to our Xerox 7000 the first page always prints ok but the rest of the pages seem to rotate and print off the page (2 or more page document)!
I can print from Quark 6.5, Acrobat and Mac Os 10.5 print options with no problems.
I have tried a range of Xerox 7000 print drivers and they all have the same problem.
Now we also have a Xerox 6060 and 250 which prints correctly from Indesign CS3.
So the problem is only in Indesign CS3 printing a multi-page document to a Xerox 7000ap.

I went round and round over this one. In the print dialog window under setup...instead of using a standard page size, Tabloid for instance, define a custom size of 11x17. Spreads printed for me just fine after this. I couldn't believe after months of printing spreads one at a time it finally hit me.

  • InDesign tries, but doesn't open files on server.

When using a finder window to open CS3 and CS4 InDesign files from our server, I get the opening effect but not the open file.  I'm using Snow Leopard on a Mac. Double-clicking will not work, dragging the file into the application icon will not work, only the File > Open menu does the trick and opens the file. Note: double-clicking and dragging into the app icon does work for local files. Any fixes for the server file issue? Thanks!

i have this problem too at random, i click on the indesign cs4 file in the snow leopard finder, indesign actually makes that temporary whatever it is in the finder but the layout pages don't open. my workaround is to quit indesign and start again and this usually works. but i am wondering if there is any other solution? when the file doesn't open it doesn't help to try to open it through the file menu. so i just quit and start again. (this may be a feature of indesign since sometimes at random the font sizing buttons don't work.)

  • Mac OS 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard)

What is the lowest version of InDesign that will run on Snow Leopard?

CS3 should be fine but why are you asking? The only version for sale through legitimate channels is CS5.
If you already have CS3 or later and are thinking of buying a new computer you should be fine. If you're already running InDesign on an earlier version of OSX and thinking of upgrading, I would suggest you plan on doing a clean install.

  • Need help with Snow Leopard compatibility issue

We have a new iMac in (with Snow Leopard) and have loaded all our programs. Due to budgets, we have not made the jump to CS4 and are still on CS3 (waiting for 5). We work in an InDesign/InCopy workflow.
In launching InDesign on the MAc with Snow Leopard, we have noticed that the assignment folders are nonexistant and within the program you can't even open an assignment window. When you reopen on a system without Snow Leopard, the individual assignments are there, but the program states it can't find the main assignment, so it's cancelling out the assignments if opened on the Snow Leopard unit.
Does anyone have any info on compatibility issues with Indesign CS3 and Snow Leopard? My tech guy found nothing on this before we ordered the new system.

First things first. CS5 was announced today and preorders are being accepted.
I believe if you upgrade to CS4 you'll get a free copy of CS5. This is important because if you're upgrading a suite, tiered pricing makes CS3 to CS4 $200 less than waiting til CS5 comes out.
That out of the way, is everyone fully patched to CS3 5.0.4? Is Snow Leopard fully updated to 10.6.3? Do you have full read/write permission on the server?

  • Buying previous versions of indesign

    Hi
I am a home user of Quark and would very much like to start using indesign, however my imac running Snow Leopard is not compatible. My question is... is there any way of buying a previous version of Indesign that does run on my platform?
Thanks a million for your help

If you don't want to invest the $700 for the perpetual license, you can also get the cloud subscription, which lets you choose any version starting with CS6. There's a single app plan for $20 per month.
How old is your iMac? Mid 2007 and newer will take Lion 10.7.5, which will let you run ID CC.

  • Adobe CS3  & Leopard (Mac OS X v. 10.5) updates yet?

I was curious if the updates for CS3 have been made available yet, so we can upgrade to Leopard? I know the other applications were supposed to be updated in December & the last one was supposed to be Acrobat this month (January), but haven't heard any news on any of them.

In terms of various problems seen in using InDesign and other CS3 applications under "Leopard," there are problems that Apple has put off fixing until MacOS 10.5.3 (no date yet for release), others "deferred" until the next major MacOS X release (presumably MacOS 10.6) whenever that is, and even other problems still "under investigation" by Apple.

  • PostScript to PDF Problem :(

Ok, this is driving me nuts. First of all, I'm using InDesign CS4 on
Mac OSX Snow Leopard: before this upgrade, I was able to create a PDF
using the indesign function Print Booklet. Now I can't and I don't
know why. Using Google I found people having similar problem and I
tried some alternative steps like exporting a .ps from my indd file,
then using distiller to generate a PDF - ok, good, seems a solution -
but the problem was when I open my PDF, there are not spreads, just
pages! I tried to check Spreads under indesign print options but I
can't do that! And I couldn't find a solution over Distiller either...
Please, I need some help to solve this!
    Thanks a lot guys!
    Juan

Thank you Peter. This is cos snow leopard update?
Let see if Adobe can fix this asap!

Much discuseed, here and elsewhere. See for example http://indesignsecrets.com/acrobats-adobe-pdf-printer-replaced-in-snow-leopard.php

You may need to use a script to impose instead of Print Booklet, then export the PDF. You can look at http://pdsassoc.com/downloads/Buildbooklet.zip and http://products.carlsenenterprises.com/
