InDesign 5.5 Crash

Question

When exporting an InDesign 5.5 file to EPUB, the system crashes because of the presence of embedded fonts, or so we are told. This same file exports beautifully in InDesign 5, but ID 5 will not execute cross-links, which is the reason to move ID 5.5. Well done Adobe. Anybody got a fix for the crashing problem?

Everyone in the thread gets all replies, so there's no need to duplicate
information. I can't advise much what to do with your Windows crash
reports, but it should be possible to look at them with a bit more
detail and gain some insight. At least you can on the Mac.
Just to be clear, Stix Hart suggested you export to IDML and open the IDML.
You did that export prior to the EPUB export, correct?
It sounds like JOHN HANDY LET PLAIN may be to blame. Does the problem
change if you remove the use of that font? Have you confirmed the font
is not corrupted and that your license for the font permits embedding?
Adobe's EPUB support was entirely rewritten in CS5.5. It's not
surprising that diffrent things cause it problems than CS5.0. Since
it's young feature in a highly emerging market, I'm sure they are
paying close attention to it, so there's probably reasonable hope for
a fix for these problems in a maintenance release of CS5.5. But of
course you'll need to report the problem.
Best thing to do is find proper reproducible test case (ideally a small
one, like a degenerate short document) and then contact Adobe Support with
it. If you don't have adobe support, then use http://adobe.com/go/wish.
But if changing the font doesn't work or the font is essential to you,
evidently it's back to CS5.0.
