InDesign 5.5 crashes - won't launch in 10.8.2

InDesign CS 5.5 will not launch in Mountain Lion  10.8.2- is there a solution?

I'd suggest coming back to edit your contact info out of your post. I mean, next time I spot rivers or ugly rag right in the Merc I for sure am going to call you directly and inform you of same.
No, but seriously, you probably don't want to get random phone calls from the Internet, do you?
Also, your doubt is well-founded; probably that uninstall/reinstall was entirely unnecessary. If Peter can't help you sort this I'd be perfectly happy to make a housecall. You've certainly published enough I, Anonymous submitted by my friends to merit some free desktop support.
Edit: Not fast enough to post faster than Mr. Spier, as usual.

  • ITunes crashed won't launch

After using Norton Utilities 8.0 my iTunes crashed and won't launch. Already ran Apple disk utility and repaired disk permissions. The following was in the iTunes.crash.log:
    Command: iTunes
    Path: /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes
    Version: ??? (???)
    PID: 355
    Thread: Unknown
    Link (dyld) error:

I backuped all music on a DVD, how do I fix or restore iTunes? Thanks / Joe

I tried installing Mac OSX, saving my settings and it did not bring iTunes back. The installer never asked for the 2nd disk. Do I need to throw the iTunes that crashed in the trash and then reinstall OSX?? Thanks / Joe

  • InDesign keeps crashing- won't launch or open files

My CS5 InDesign for mac keeps crashing. All the other programs run fine, but when I try to launch InDesign it says that it quit unexpectedly & offers to send a report to Apple. I can't open my files either. It used to work fine & I can't think of anything that would've effected it. How can I get it to work again?

Also, when I follow the path to InDesign SavedData:Macintosh: Hard Drive/Users/<USER>/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign/<Version #>/<Language>/ (Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used), when I get to <version#> there are only 2 folders: 7.5 & 8.0, so I don't even have a 7.0 folder. Is it supposed to be like that since I have CS5?
Within these folders however I do have InDesign Recovery File folder & both of them (in each version) have RecoveryData in them, so is that what I have to delete?... or do I rename it & should I also make copies of these first & store them somewhere else?

  • InDesign CS5 "unexpectedly quit" - won't launch

    Aloha,
I'm running OS X 10.8.4 with CS5.  About a month ago I moved my creative suite from an older computer to a new one.  I have been able to run Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreameweaver and Lightroom without issue, but when I try to launch InDesign I get a "InDesign unexpectedly quit" error message.
I've tried everything I can think of and everything I've found in these forums but nothing seems to be working.  Has anyone else run into this, and if so how were you able to fix this issue?  Thank you!

That's what I thought too, but I am having a tough time with that.  I downloaded cs5 as an upgrade to cs3.  The hard drive that I kept the backup install files on won't mount and my new computer doesn't have an optical drive to load a CD backup.
So I found where I could download just the InDesign install but when I launch that its giving me an error saying "Installer failed to initialize.  Please download Adobe Supprot Advisor to detect the problem." Which I did.
And When I launch the Support Advisor, it says "Inspection could not identify any issues."  Can you think of any work arounds?

  • IOS7 iTunes crashes / won't launch

I went to browse the iTunes Store today. When I launched the app I saw a brief glimpse of the search tab in the app followed by the entire screen being occupied by a stretched-to-fit iTunes logo. Then crash! Launched again; same thing - crash!
iTunes finally launched after about 5-6 tries. I closed the all and re-launched - crash again! Another 4-5 tries later the app launched again.
The last item I viewed in iTunes was an album I was linked to from Facebook. Then before that I was searching an artist.
I'm not sure what caused this big but it is annoying. If it keeps happening I'll restart my phone. I don't know what else I can do.

I probably shouldn't have marked as a question. I know about hard resetting the phone and it's something I will try if needed.
There is something wrong in iOS7 that needs fixed. Hopefully this isn't something that happens often.

  • Final cut pro 6.0.5 crash - won't launch

    hey everyone,
i'm new to this forum, been looking through the posts to see if i could find some answers but i haven't had any luck. i recently did a software update on my machine, noticed there was a pro application support for final cut studio. i went ahead and downloaded and it all installed successfully (that was on monday). i went to try and use the program today but final cut launches, but it doesn't show the splash page, then takes a second before the "light indicator" below the icon disappears and the message says "final has unexpectedly quit", and then gives you the option to ignore, see the report and relaunch. i hit relaunch but still the same result. has anyone else had this problem?
here's another question, when i did the pro application support update, i'm not sure if i had the previous application support update installed on the machine, i usually try and avoid doing the updates in fear of causing issues (like this). could that be the cause? i just thought i'd throw that out there.
any help will be much appreciated! thanks in advance.
    rodel

I had a similar problem. I installed FCP Studio 2 with all newest updates and suddenly all my "Pro"apps crashed during launch including Logic Studio and Logic Express (an older version). The crashlog said for any app:
    "Symbol not found: _NSLocaleIdentifier
    Referenced from: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ProKit.framework/Versions/A/ProKit
    Expected in: /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreFoundation.framework/Versions/A/CoreFoundation".
Repairing permissions had no effect. So I re-installed the latest "ProAppRuntime.pkg" (dated 2008-01-22) with Pacifist because the Apple installer said something about a javascript error in the package. Now everything works fine again.

  • Indesign CS5 won't launch on new MB Pro 10.8

After migrating Creative Suite 5 Premium from Mac OS X 10.6.8 to new Macbook Pro 10.8.5 Indesign won't launch while all other components do. I've posted the crash report at http://pastebin.com/JrVw4Sm4. Can anyone help with this problem?
I've already browsed the forum but didn't really got a clue how to sort it out. The original software was downloaded from adobe.subscribenet.com three years ago and doesn't seem to be available anymore for reinstallation. Product keys are in place...
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks for your replies.
    @Ankit:
Tried and removed the SING Datastore but still doesn't work.
    @Salah
    Updating also didn't work.
    @Bob
I would have tried new installation but unfortunately don't have access to the original media installed from an electronic download. All I want to do is moving all applications from an old 13" MB Pro 10.6.8 to a new 10.8.5 and make sure they run within the new system before cleaning up the old one. Any idea what the specific problem is with InDesign since all other applications are running smoothly?

  • InDesign CS5 won't launch - missing plug-ins

InDesign CS5 won’t launch on Windows 7. I get the following error messages:
    Cannot load the LINKS.RPLN plug-in
Cannot load the FONT USAGE DIALOG.RPLN plug-in
Cannot load the XMEDIA UI.RPLN plug-in
After these error messages InDesign crashes.
Do I need to reinstall the plug-ins?
If yes, how do I do that?

I couldn't find a repair option so tried to reinstall InDesign as you've suggested. This doesen't seem to work either, as I received the following installation error:

Have a  problem with Lightroom 5.4.  Since the program crashed yesterday it won't launch, it comes up with the message "Lightroom encountered an error when reading its preview cache and needs to quit".  "  Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem next time it launches".  Except that it doesn't, I keep getting the same message and the program closes.  Does anyone know what I  can do to repair it?  Can't back up, can't do anything.

There are dozens of threads in this forum that describe the fix

    Hi,
Install the v10.6.6 combo update available here. It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.6.6. The combo includes fixes that were not included in the original update.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1349
Restart your Mac and try the MAS again.
You can download apps directly from the MAS once you have it running.
Considering the TM backup took so long, make sure there's enough space on your Mac startup disk.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.*

  • IPhoto 11 won't launch and crashes every time I try to rebuild the library. Urgh.

iPhoto 11 won't launch- it's another case of an infinite skinny wheel. I've tried rebuilding the library numerous times, each time it takes about a day and each time it crashes near the end. This is just ridiculous. Any tips folks?
APPLE if you can hear me... shouldn't you be testing this stuff prior to release? I know you do but I mean, like REALLY testing it? This is my second iPhoto upgrade disaster. The last time I lost my entire library, had to spend £80 on recovery software that recovered not only most of my photos, but every image cached on my machine. So then I had the fun of sorting through literally thousands of images...
And I only got the upgrade becasue my iPhone is refusing to sync, freezing on the iPhoto bit. Gah.

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Dreamweaver CC won't launch - Mac OS 10.8.5 - No Crash Logs Created

Dreamweaver CC won't launch at all on my machine anymore.  All the other Adobe CC applications work just fine.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled all my CC applications and done it again for good measure.  I've uninstalled all my fonts and reinstalled the normal Mountain Lion fonts and the fonts installed with the Adobe CC apps.
Creative Cloud desktop is installed. It has update Dreamweaver to version 13.0.0.6391.  I'm aware that there is a version 13.1 out there, but Creative Cloud tells me I'm up-to-date and I have no more requests.
When launching Dreamweaver, It bounces in my dock for a brief second, then disappears.  No crash log is created. The Console app shows the following entry after a number of attempts to launch Dreamweaver:
