Indesign & Acrobat printing problem

for some strange reason I have started getting an error when trying to print from Adobe Indesign and Acrobat. the error is 'Opening Raster File Failed'. this problem only started last week. I have not updated or changed anything on the programs or my system. I tried re-adding the printer and that did not help. neither did restarting my computer. I can still print from Preview or Photoshop but not from Acrobat or Indesign.
any ideas?

Yes, post your question in an Adobe discussion group, and not an Apple group.

I teach in a Mac computer Lab (mac OS X) and InDesign CS2 is a huge headache for me; my students can't print their work half the time. I read online a lot of member posts about InDesign CS2 printing problems. Would a CS3 upgrade help?

CS3 upgrades are no longer available now that CS4 is out!
Perhaps if you described your particular problems, members of this forum could assist you. Note however, that CS2 was not supported on MacOS X 10.5 (Leopard).

    Hi,
The HP Deskjet 845c is actually no longer supported on Mac OS X since version 10.6:

You may try installing the 3rd party HPIJS drivers which seems to support the 845c.
Be sure to install any of the 3 required download prior adding the printer:

  • Indesign & PDF printing problems

    Hello!
I have a paper to be printed out on a Laser Printer (600-1200)
It is a black and white document.
The problem is that the results are very different, when you print directly from Indesign CS3, (which is the Indesign Document), & PDF. The simple document to printed out contains editable text + object graphics.
When you print the document DIRECTLY from InDesign CS3, on the black and white laser printer, the result is nice and smooth color plates.
BUT, when I export the document to a PDF, and print out on the same printer, everything is rasterized (dots).
The settings in export to PDF is high quality, and I also tried selecting quality 2. (which is said to be the best for laser printers.
In the print directly from InDesign CS3, it is the program's own settings, but if I print out as PDF its the printer settings.
Someone who knows what the problem might be, why so different kind of printouts?
Grateful for tips and solution to the mystery!

You haven't said what printer this is. It makes a difference if it is Postscript, and what the settings are in your preferences for handling of Black when printing directly from ID.
To be sure you get solid black text when you export, make sure there is no color profile conversion, or that you have selected preserve numbers.
    >When you print the document DIRECTLY from InDesign CS3, on the black and white laser printer, the result is nice and smooth color plates.
You lost me here. What color plates? You said this was a B&W document.

  • Acrobat printing problems (solved)

    Hi Folk
I'm getting on well with Arch apart from one problem, I can not print from Acrobat reader, it accepts the command and does precisely nothing, the jobs are appearing in cups but not being printed, I can print from Open Office and test print from cups but no cooperation with acrobat,  anyone have any ideas? thanks

I don't know what DE are you using. In my case, I use xfce and when acroread starts with his stupidity I just change the print command to 'xfprint'. That forces acroread to redirect the print job to xfce's printing frontend, and problem solved.
Now, if you're using kde, I guess there is something named 'kdeprint', 'kprint' or similar. For gnome, I've no idea.
    I hope this helps.
p.s. Sometimes, cups takes his time to print. When its taking too long I purge cups' temp files and restart the daemon.

  • Acrobat printing problems in Yosemite

I am having problems printing since I installed Yosemite (I am now on 10.10).  I am using Acrobat reader 10.1.12.  The printing is slow or it just stops after a few lines on the page.  The printer (HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g tells me it has printed 100% but it hasn't.  It does not have problems with other applications e.g. Excel, but I do get the same problem if I try to print the document from Preview.

Would you believe it, it has started to behave itself!!  Suddenly!!  I did not change a thing.  I am convinced there is a gremlin in the system who doesn't like being complained about.  I will monitor this gremlin and resubmit this as a question if it starts again.  Sorry to trouble you.

  • InDesign CS3 + Printing Problem

I have a very simple problem, but am not sure how to solve it. If I ever print more than one copy than anything, InDesign flattens the document that many times before it prints. If I want 100 copies, I must wait for InDesign to flatten and process my brochure 100 times, and THEN it will print. I know there must be something I'm overlooking. Any advice?

You could try creating a PDF and printing that. Might be a bit faster
especially if you flatten the PDF.

  • CS2 on Mac, InDesign/Acrobat: Printing 2-sided pdf's on digital printer

A small printer client of mine is using an Oce CM4521 color printer to print 2-sided business cards 10-up with crops all around. The second side is not aligning with the first, because, I think, the pdf-making function in InDesign is cropping the pdfs to the artwork, thus creating a right-left offset from one side to the other. I am stupid about many things, and this could be one of them. There may be an extremely simple solution I am not seeing.
Yes, I'll be upgrading to CS4 soon. Any other suggestions out there? Thanks.

Thanks Bob. This may solve it. The last setting on that option was "bounding box" which may have colored the output saved to pdf. Does that setting govern how the doc is cropped during the MAKING of the pdf, and not just the PLACING? (I'm not able to test if it does or not, I believe. I may be wrong). Thanks again.

  • Acrobat printing problem

We have just upgraded to the Acrobat X and are having an issue with printing. A font is printing differently from Acrobat 9 to Acrobat X. As you can see below the acrobat 9 printout looks fine but the X version is filling in on the A's especially?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are the fonts that are being used embedded in the PDF? Are both vector graphics or bitmaps? What application was used to create the PDF and what versions of software?

    Hi, Lila -
First, try increasing the Preferred memory allocation for the program (Acrobat or Acrobat Reader) - adding 50% to the original Preferred amount would be a good starting point.
Article #18278 - Assigning More Memory to an Application
Also increase the Preferred memory allocation for the applicable printing software. This can include PrintMonitor, Desktop PrintMonitor, and items like Epson Monitor 3, all of which can be found in the Extensions folder in System Folder; and the desktop printer icon provided desktop printing is active. Doubling the original Preferred amount for those items is a good starting point.
I've found that it is easier to print a PDF as an image rather than as a Postscript file. To make that setting when using LaserWriter 8 as the printing software, open the document you wish to print. Select Print from the File menu; in the Print dialog screen, select Acrobat from the pulldown menu in the upper left (it's the lower of the two pulldown menus, it usually displays "General"). In the middle of the new screen locate "Printing Method:" - select "Print as image" in that pulldown menu.

  • Adobe Acrobat and InDesign documents print once only

    Hi,
Printing a 100 page 25 sheet imposed 8.5 x 14 Adobe Acrobat document is limited to only one copy. At the end of the first copy printing; printer stops and requests letter-size paper, for drawer one,
printer default is set for 8.5 x 14 and first print ran from drawer 2.
Older CS 2 imposed files, printed from IDCS2 still print multiple copies on HP 4200 duplex. The new Adobe work flow for page imposition yields a pdf file to be printed from Adobe Acrobat.
OS is 10.5.8 iMac duo core intel.
Work flow is Adobe InDesign CS5 book > flight test clear > .pdf > open with Acrobat 9.3.2 > impose with Quite Imposing > save imposed pdf > prints only one at a time
then printer stops and asks for different paper size in different drawer.
Specifically : Prints one copy means 25 sheets duplex is completed perfectly, starting the next set of 25 sheets (one document copy) is when the printer stops and asks for different paper from different drawer.
note : Evidence points to the printing control panel of CS 5.
Older imposed Adobe InDesign CS2 document opened by InDesign CS5 also will only print one document copy of 25 sheets±. Attempting to over-ride the Adobe InDesign CS5 panel for printing by selecting four copies there does not help. In other words, printing an old InDesign file from InDesign CS5 yields the same problem as printing a new InDesign CS5 imposed, saved as pdf and printed from Adobe Acrobat 9.3
Adobe forums report similar unsolved printing problems with InDesign CS4. I'm going to post this in Snow Lepord as well since my laptop has 10.6.
    Suggestions ?
    Garrett

    Hi kostby,
I'm sure you completely answered my question, I only checked helpful because my own thick skull is blocking a full appreciation of your brilliant insight.
Sadly, I'm away from my printer for another couple of weeks, even so, this shouldn't stop me from understanding what you are saying a little better.
I downloaded and went through the file from HP and it looks to me like the obvious default HP position is one copy. Am I clear in assuming from this, and your explanation, that the CS5 software engineer has overridden my command to print four ? I am making this assumption because the default is for long edge binding and I select short-edge legal-size duplex with legal size being my default size for the printer. Thus, the change in paper size and drawer location remains a mystery.
I often print four to five copies because that is a convenient stack for my aging cutter, any number greater than one is nice because I can avoid being in the room with the printer and breathing ink dust.
I am not sure how to send the print job to a file so I can open it with BBEdit and inspect the specific commands, this is very interesting to me. Though I'm at this point without the full skill set to master using this great knowledge. Also, over the years, I've found that I don't fully retain lessons once learned but rarely used, but that's a different and perhaps personal problem.
    Thank you very much,
    Garrett

  • Indesign printing problem

when trying to print either an indesign document or PDF we are getting errors either 'printing error: the adobe print engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem' or for a PDF - 'cannot print, there are no pages selected' we are using printer drivers RPCS Printer DriverVersion7.60 for Ricoh Alicio C2000 digital printer
and are trying to print an A3 double sided full colour booklet. This was working fine (for two years), but since upgrading to CS4 have had problems printing IND docs but if saved as PDF was okay - Ricoh had had other problems with CS4 doing this. Now neither will print - not sure if since an update has been downloaded?
further to this after hours of searching knowledge base and trying many things:
I have fixed any font problems - not that I think they were problems. I can sometimes print it once from the PDF but then if I reprint multiples it doesnt work. Change drivers and same thing, one print only. Now not even that will work again now. have tried shortening the file name, that allowed me to get my single copies for awhile but now nothing.  I have downloaded the new CS4 updates today - no fix. My printer company said they'd had other customers with a similar problem and it was an Acrobat Reader problem- have downloaded the latest update, no fix.
I took the file to my printer company and they could print it okay - which to me said it was a driver problem but they say no its an Adobe problem because I can print other documents.
this is not happening with all docs - just this one file (any version or change of it) - this is a file (catalouge) that has been used and updated for the last two years and now since CS4 is starting to cause problems. We have contacted support - they directed me to a knowledge base article which I had already worked through. We will try again and document what happens at each stage but if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.. please note that we are not professionals and do not understand much of the backend stuff and techno speak.
    arrggh please help
    MissM

further to my last question, it seems it is not just this one document. A Black and white document (PDF) (which had been printing okay right before) is now doing the same thing when trying to print as a booklet - cannot print, no pages selected. BUT if i do just duplex but not booklet both work?
is this sounding more like a driver problem?

  • Printing problems with InDesign CS3 running on OS 10.6

I recently upgrade my old G4 Mac (OS 10.4) to a new Mac Mini running OS 10.6.6. I am still running CS3 and have encountered only one problem. When I print multiple copies documents from InDesign that contain several layers, each copy is processed separately, so that it can take several minutes just to send the print job to the printer if I'm printing over 20 copies. Then once the print job is processed the printer pauses between every copy, which is tripling the printing time. If I print a simpler document with only one or two layers it processes all the copies at once, as it should. I am printing on an Okidata 6150 color laser printer.
I never had this problem on my old computer. I'm wondering if this is one of the "unsupported" bugs of running CS3 on Snow Leopard. I want to make sure that this is a problem unique to running CS3 with Snow Leopard before I go ahead and upgrade to CS4 or CS5.
computer: Mac Mini core 2 duo 2.4 ghz processors, 4 gb RAM, printer: Okidata 6150 DN color laser printer.

    Hi again Peter
It is version 5.0.4.  I updated it when I newly installed it a week ago in my new computer, and then again updated it just yesterday.
I might mention that before I got my new computer, I was running Mac OS 4.11, and was using InDesign 3.0.  I had bought InDesign CS3 about a year ago, but hadn't gotten around to using it since version 3.0 had been working fine, and I was used to it.  Then, when I got my new computer, I decided it was time to use the newer version.  However, while using InDesign 3.0 with the old Mac OS 4.11, a printing problem popped up there, too, a few months ago... and it also involved printing problems with Adobe Reader.  I contacted Adobe, and they sent me a patch which fixed it.  I will contact Adobe again if need be, although I thought I'd start here first to see if it was a common enough problem that someone might be able to provide a free and routine answer.

I neglected to ask what version of indesign CS3 you are using. I also
notice that Mac OSX 10.6.4 has just been released. It actually
addresses some CS3-specific issues, though they seem to be related to
launching the apps, not printing. It may be worth trying to update,
    nonetheless.

  • Printing problem with Epson R290 Illustrator and inDesign

I am running CS2 on Leopard and have recently purchased an Epson R290. The first time I used it with Illustrator and InDesign it worked fine but now whenever I print anything it prints a tiny version (about a sixth of the real size) of the design in the top left corner of the page. It does this both with new documents and old ones that used to print ok.

Since I posted the message about this problem I have discovered that it can be worked around by choosing a higher quality print. ie if you choose plain paper when printing from Illustrator or InDesign the printer prints a reduced size image but if you choose Ink jet mat or glossy the print comes out fine. I don't have this problem with Photoshop but that may be that I always print high quality from that application. I don't use Appleworks Draw so don't know whether this solves the problem for that application but iWork documents print ok.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro Printing Problem

I have a problem with printing in Acrobat 9 Professional. I am printing to a Canon imageRunner C3220 color laser printer, using PS3 driver. My OS is Windows XP Pro x64 2003 SP2.
Only the first page of multipage PDFs will print. I have checked Acrobat print settings as well as the printer's settings, and all seems to be correct. I sent a sample document to a co-worker and she printed it using Reader without a problem. The majority of the documents I create eventually become PDFs. This would be a serious problem if there is no solution.
Acrobat 8 worked fine. Any help would be appreciated.

    Chuck,
I just went to the Canon website. For your printer, some of the printer
boards use Adobe PS3 and some of the printer boards use emulation. Can
you check to see which you have?
