Indesign Acting Stange

Having reinstalled twice my InDesign Suite 5.  My InDesign no longer allows me to "cut" text or move text or elements with my mouse.  They will move with the arrow keys. Copy command stopped working also.  Everything else seems fine.  No viruses found either.  All other software runs fine. Any ideas or settings that could cause this effect?

Try the steps detailed in this link here.

  • Our Mac is Acting Stange

    Computer: PowerMac G5
    OS: 10.4.11
Our Mac has been acting really strange since yesterday afternoon.
Sometimes the Dock Stays up when I take the cursor off of it, and other times it won't come up. I had to kill Dock and restart it today just to get it to come up.
The Finder is acting weird too. Yesterday, the windows would open with the top above the menu bar. That seems to be fixed for now that I trashed the Finder preference file (/Users/**/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist).
Then, this morning, my mom gets on the computer for a few minutes to visit her favorite forum (which she's been going to for years). No big deal. So she puts the computer to sleep and walks away. A few minutes later, the fan inside the computer tower revs up and starts blowing full blast. At this point, my mom tries to turn the computer back on, but it was frozen and unresponsive. So she held the main power button on the tower until it turned completely off, then turned it back on. Everything appeared normal during the boot up, but when the desktop came up, the System Preferences app was open.
Any ideas of what this is?

    Great news Scotty, thanks!
    You might consider getting Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
It'll be availble if you ever need it, or maybe use it every month or two to help prevent future problems... once you really need it, you can't install it!

  • Bios acting stange

    HI
For the last few days I've been noticing some really strange things with my
Neo FSR2 board. I've had lots of craches lately and notice the system temp
is around 50c at load and 45c idle(never went over 41c before) and CPUz
reports my CPU core as ClawHammer but it's a NewCastle (allways did report
it as NewCastle). And no, I did not switch CPU
!Untill now it has been working perfeclty and 100% stable!
Could I have some virus in my Bios or something? or could a clean bios flash help?
*I did read the temps in Bios mode*
*Edit: Forgot to ad CPU temp, ranging from 36-44c (lower then systemp )

    Hi!
It was awile since I made this post and I have replaced my PSU since that for a TurboCool510 (see sig) and it worked just fine for awile untill now
when suddenly my comp just died and the power led was flashing, even a few secs after unplugging the power cable.
I managed to start it up again with no problems and ran it for a few mins then it died again.    ..... I unplugged the ATX cable and AGAIN, that brown
on pin 1, 2 and 11 on my new PSU just like with my old one.. I read in the manual that those pins are all for 3.3V and I'm pretty sure now that something
on my mobo is Frelled, but what?
I will upgrade to a 939 PCI-Xpress board (not likely one from MSI I'm afraid) later on but then I need not only a mobo but allso a new CPU and a graphics card and I can't afford that atm.
    *Edit*
One thing I noticed today when I got home from work and started it up was the onboard LAN would not work and that it kept frezing for a seckond over
and over just as if it was under heavy load. I plugged in my old Realtek 10/100 card and dissabled onboard LAN and Audio and got it to work. I'm not sure
how stable it is at this point.

  • Adobe InDesign CS4 Stops Working - Windows 7 Ultimate

I have a new computer with 8g of Ram running Windows 7 Ultimate, with an Intel i7 860 2.8 and everything has been working fine until an hour ago and now everytime I open InDesign and start working on a file, I get the error message that Windows has to close InDesign that it is not working properly.
I went ahead and made sure I had the latest updates, I removed the Preference file, rebooted and I am still having this same problem.
I also get a message when I start InDesign and Illustrator that I have to restart FMCore.exe has been stopped. Please start it form the Windows Control Panel for Universal Type Client and then relaunch Adobe InDesign CS4. I click OK and InDesign opens. I cannot find anywhere to start the FMCore.exe. I think it applies to a Mac computer.
Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. I may trying reinstalling InDesign CS4 but I am not sure if I should do so.
    All the best,
    Aleda Downs

    Hi Peter:
I think the crash may be related to this file. When I opened another file and moved around InDesign acted fine. It appears that is crashes with this one file that I have been working on all day.
Any suggestions before I do a system restore, as to how to repair a file? The file keeps opening, but when I try to access a menu item or navigate to a different page, that is when I get the error. On the other file, I did everything and not a problem. I think it might be this file.
    Any thoughts?
    All the best,
    Aleda

  • Changing colour on tiff´s in InDesign

    Hi
In doing some changes to a layout of a frontpage, originally made around 2002 with Pagemaker, - and later changed with InDesign.
In the layout a typefont was used, that doesn´t exist digitally, so the Letraset-sheets were scanned to tiff, and some steps were taken in Adobe Type Manager or Photoshop. Now all the letters appear in ID as .icml. Where two or more of the same letter is used, it´s icml2, icml3 a.s.o.
I need to put in some additional letters.
I´ve skanned these with exactly the same settings as those in the first layout, saved them as TIFFs, opened them in Photoshop as bitmaps, added a transparent layer, saved as TIFF, keeping the transparency,
    and that´s were I am.
When I insert the TIFF´s into InDesign, for some reason I cannot -
    1) change the color from black to what I want
    2) scale the letter
and the TIFF, when inserted into InDesign, acts strangely. When I move it, a yellow frame is moved, and the letter stays where it is.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Do I need to use The Bridge?

You can't apply a color to a transparent grayscale or bitmap—has to be flattened.
You have to direct select the image (white selection arrow), sounds like you are selecting the holding frame and not the image,

Also, none of the 61 lines of error messages mention anything about the system used. Should we be guessing? Okay ... is it .. an Atari ST 520?

  • InDesign "has stopped working"

Hi there! I've had creative suite 5 for a few years now, which includes inDesign cs5.5 and I've been using the program fine this entire time. I downloaded the newest trial version of InDesign, which is Creative Cloud now because a friend wanted me to proofread a document she created that my cs5.5 couldn't open. Anyways, after I read it, I uninstalled the trial version(inDesign CC) since I already had inDesign cs5.5 but now my original version won't start up at all. I have to get this going ASAP and I've searched everywhere, as well as re-installed inDesign CC again to see if maybe the two programs accidentally overlapped each other or something. This isn't making sense to me, how could the installing of CC upset my Cs5.5?? Can someone please help! All I get is a "Has stopped working" and windows is searching for a solution blah blah. Is my only option to completely reinstall my Creative Suite?

Most probably, yes. Reason: The suites shares components which have been overwritten by the CC version. They are intended to coexist, but problems like this can occur and are not rare.
Alternatively you may try this first: change to another user on your PC and try to start there. It might help to fix it for you as user. Or copy the preferences files to a backup location, delete the original one, start again so Indesign acts like starting the first time, including registration of all plugins, and if it works again, write back the prefs file.

  • Why does snaps pro not work with mountain lion?

I spent a lot money purchasing the pro addition only to be told that it won't work with mountain lion due to Apple's written something into the code that does not permit me to make videos with it. I even tried ot make a video of Indesign acting up so i could send it to Adobe support and it wouldn't allow me to. Is this the resaon it suddenly doesn't work anymore? Are there plans to fix mountian lion to allow me to use my software? Alternatively,, does Apple have something that does screen captures of videos?

this is the repsonse form Ambrosia: (Not sure I understand it)
As far as Snapz Pro X 2 functionality, some major backend Digital Rights Management changes enacted by Apple may be what is preventing you from recording movies you were previously able to record using our software. Basically, our program can no longer access videos before the DRM protections are enabled, unfortunately we have no control over these changes. Please see the following FAQ:http://www.ambrosiasw.com/support/faqs/products/snapz-pro-x /Why-does-the-content-of-my-capture-display-as-a-checkerboard
BTW I am current on the latgest version.
Does anybody know how to work around my problem? I need to be able to record videos on my computer.

  • IPad in reboot loop

After installing latest OS upgrade, system have been acting stange - latest problem was Messages would not send - so I have had to reboot multiple times.  Each time it took a very long time (have not had this problem with my iPhone 4S), and now it appears to be stuck in a loop and will not complete.  Working with iPad 2.

Took my iPad to an Apple Store and they wiped it and started a restore from an iCloud backup, which is still running almost 24 hours later - not the best solution, but I at least had the backup.  They said the fact that I had ran the upgrade over WiiFii may have caused a corruption, which makes sense, but is not a good response - the install should account for such things.

When i give vmstat i see that 16 processes are swapped out.
When i tried to install top he gives me "pkgadd: ERROR: unable to determine current run-state"

As I can't view the WebCVS right now, I am not sure. But many iptables modules moved to Xtables, which has to be enabled for iptables, ip6tables and arptables. If you forget to enable Xtables (or just copy the old .config file from the old kernel) you will end up without iptables support.
In that case, Xtables should be enabled in the stock kernel (which is what Neodreams is using).
I have same problem with Shorewall Firewall:

I don't have other problems except boot is slower but it doesn't bother me

  • Indesign CS6 acting strange at times

I am not loving Indesign CS6. Not because of it's functionality but because it acts strangely. When I quit it, sometimes it takes forever to quit and you start wondering if it is going to, sometimes it says it's closed but the tabbed windows still remain in view only grayed out with the beachball spinning. Eventually it goes away but it is disturbing. anyone know why?
Another thing is that when I change a font size, it will look like it changed but still have the after image of the previous size. Irritating.
One more, and I've had this problem for all of the last versions since I think cs4. When I try to replace a pdf with a current version, (unless I have restarted my computer since the last time I created it,) it tells me that I don't haver permisson or that file may be in use. I end up going to the pdf and trashing it physically. Not very efficient.
I know there are 3 issues but I've only had it for a couple of months at best.
The first issue is the most disturbing.
Mountain Lion 10.8.2, 8 gb memory, processor 3.06 ghz intel

Again, please remove your auto-signature when replying by email.
Let's try a couple of diagnostic experiments, please.
First, create a new user account onthe mac and log in with that and tell us if there is a change in behavior in ID.
Second, try starting in with extensions disabled by holding down the Shift key while booting the Mac. Does that make a difference?
Do you run any sort of utilities -- anti-virus, Mac Keeper, etc.?

My InDesign CS5 has recently been acting up, its missing the toolbar (and yes it checked all the tabs and so on). My question is with uninstalling the program and then re-installing it solve my problems? Its been acting up in other ways as well such as I can"t use shortcuts anymore and the tabs on the top seem to be missing some normally present features. What should I do as a senior in college with a design show coming up I really need my InDesign CS5. Thanks in advance

    Try replacing your preferences.

Same for Edit menu - but it jumps to Window and Layout jumps to Help
Odd behvior and I find a reason why I don't NEED to do what I want in InDesign so I move on.  I am about to do that again - since what I need to do is simple enough.
Bottom line is that I have yet to successfully use InDesign on my Windows 8 laptop.
    Any advice is welcome.
    Thanks!!

A bit more detail about the failure.
I open Id - create a new doc.  That works - so at that point the File->New behaves as expected.
From there on the File Edit and Layout menus behave badly.
Again - I find it odd that I can use Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat and Premier without a hitch.  What is happening with InDesign.
So - back to Illustrator for my simple project.

  • InDesign CS6 text frames acting wonky

I started a brand new document. Some text has been copy/pasted from CS4 documents or Word but all of it is acting weird. If the text frame is less than 7.4375 in wide, then it breaks and reflows at odd points and I can't seem to get the frame to end where I want it to.
I don't know where to look to fix whatever setting is doing this.
Above: Text frame at margin width less than size noted above. but when the frame is extended to the margin height, it breaks the text and doesn't keep it where I want.
Below: Text frame at 7.4375 in wide. It will break at different places and show all that's supposed to be in the frame

First, show non-printing characters so you can look for non-breaking spaces. Next check for a long string of text to which No Break has been applied (if you make the frame narrow and the text goes into overset, it's easiest to find these problems by looking at the first bit of text past the overset indicator in the Story Editor). The next possibility, which would be reinforced by large changes in where the text goes into overset whenyou adjust the frame heith only slightly, is that there are keep options applied that prevent ID from fitting all of the required text into the remaining space in the frame.

  • Funny acting indesign cs3 files.

    Hi
I am using Indesign cs3 on  win xp. Recently when I started saving my Indesign files, they are saved with an photoshop icon. Therefore when I double click on the PS icon the computer opens photoshop but does not open the file. It is showing that it is a indd file and I can open it by first launching Indesign and opening it with the Indesign program. That way it opens fine. Has anyone else had this program? Can anyone help?

You need to set indesign as the default program to open files with .indd extension. Various ways to do it but I think you will find one easier than I can tell you, maybe start by right-clicking on an indesign file... then 'open with' etc
