InDesign and Lightroom 5

I have 2 Mac pro laptops. One with OS X 10.6.8 and the other is 10.8.5. I want to purchase Lightroom 5 (LR 4 is currently installed on the 10.6.8) as well as Adobe InDesign. Can I install both programs on either computer? Is this software compatible with either laptop? I would prefer to use only one computer...

You can generally install several versions of an Adobe tool on the same PC. Means, LR4 and LR5 can live side by side.
For MacOS compatibility you please check Adobe's product pages. Backwards compatibility is generally better, so you might want to decide to use the 10.6.8 laptop, unless LR5 requires an OS version higher than this.

I have a PC running Windows XP (yes an antique) with CS3 Photoshop and InDesign and lightroom 2 (yes all antiques). I have acquired a PC running Windows 7 with no programs. I also have a MacBook pro  with full CS5 suite. The programs were already loaded with I got it as a gift. Question 1. If I find serial numbers used to download programs to the old PC, can those CS3 programs be put on the newer PC. Question 2. I really want to put CS5 suite on PC machines. Is that possible? Especially since my MacBook is showing some hard drive problems.

You should be able to get the CS3 programs installed and running on the new pc since CS3 is spec-ed for Windows 7 Service Pack 1.  Downloading the programs does not require a serial number.  You can find them here:  Download CS3 products  but you will need the serial number to activate the programs.  You might be able to find that thru your Adobe account online.
You will not be able to install the CS5 Mac version on a PC and you won't be able to trade it to a PC version either due to it being an older version.  Trades are allowed only for the latest version (CS6)

  • RAW Support in InDesign and Roundtrip to Lightroom

Julianne Kost suggested I suggest this feature when I spoke to her yesterday at PhotoPlus in NYC. I am currently designing wedding albums using InDesign and I like being able to roundtrip to Photoshop and back. But most images in the book are not brought into Photoshop and are instead edited in Lightroom where I tweek some things and then export to overwrite the current file in my layout. This requires me to click on the image, find its file number, search for it in Lightroom, make the edit and then re-export. Doable but time-consuming. If I could simply drag DNG files from LR into my layout and then use LR as the editor, it would make for an incredibly fast workflow. How about it?
Forgive me oh mighty mods but I am going to cross-post this in the Lightroom forum since I'm not sure which one is appropriate.

Rob, my reading of your site is that this plug-in copies settings from raw to jpeg, does it work the other way around as well?
    Rob Cole wrote:
One of the great things about the new 0-based defaults and linear tone curve is:
You can develop the jpegs now, in Lightroom, and then sync the settings to the raws later (e.g. using RawPlusJpeg), and provided you select a matching camera profile, they will look almost the same (white balance won't translate over, but everything else will, more or less). Beware lens corrections applied to the raws might alter the registration of precision local adjustments.
Note: I recommend shooting with ADL off in order for this to work better, and consider turning sharpening off in camera as well, and noise reduction and everything else to whatever extent is possible.

The complete CC has indesign included in it.
Regarding your second question: CC is the advanced version of CS6 with advanced & additional features & functions.
The payment plan for education will suit you the best since you are studying.

  • Best option if I want Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Dreamweaver?

    Hello all,
I am a current university student looking into purchasing the Creative Cloud with my student discount. I'll be doing the month-to-month payment since I can cancel that at any time, and at first I was looking at the Photography Bundle (Photoshop, Lightroom). However I have been using InDesign and Dreamweaver for fun, and am looking into trying out Illustrator. Would you suggest I sign up for the entire Creative Cloud instead of the Photography Bundle? Or should I get the bundle and just buy the other apps individually (month-to-month)? I am not a graphic design student so I don't plan on using the three apps everyday (I will primarily be using Photoshop and Lightroom).
Thank you (in advance) for your advice.

If your subscription allows you to dtop it at any time then go with the whole package until you don't need it.  If your course of study is graphic design then chances are you will be needing more than just Photoshop/Lightroom (photo-based appplications) to get thru it all.

  • R2400 Paper Size Settings in InDesign and Illustrator - Leopard 10.5.2

Since upgrading to Leopard 10.52 from Tiger 10.4.11, the "Paper Size" settings (in InDesign CS3) and the "Media Size" settings in Illustrator CS3 show some funky designations. That is, all the paper sizes have some cryptic appendages. For example, the 13x19 paper sizes are being displayed as follows:
    SuperB(13x19in)(EPSON_3)
    SuperB(13x19in)(EPSON_11)
    SuperB(13x19in)(EPSON_12)
    SuperB(13x19in)(EPSON_13)
    SuperB(13x19in)(EPSON_31)
    SuperB(13x19in)(EPSON_32)
    SuperB(13x19in)(EPSON_33)
However, when I click on the "Page Setup..." button, the paper sizes for 13x19 are displayed correctly:
    Super B (13x19 in)
Super B (13x19 in) (Sheet Feeder - Borderless)
Super B (13x19 in) (Roll Paper)
Super B (13x19 in) (Roll Paper - Borderless)
    Super B (13x19 in) (Manual - Roll)
    Super B (13x19 in) (Manual - RollBorderless))
Super B (13x19 in) (Manual -Front)
If I first select the needed paper size within the "Page Setup..." button and then come back out to select the Paper/Media Size outside the "Page Setup..." button, in some cases, the selected driver has changed according to what *might* be the equivalent to what was selected inside the "Page Setup..." button, but in some cases the selected driver outside the "Page Setup..." button does not change.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, which is the latest version for 10.5.2. I'm not sure what's going on here, but this issue is only occurring with InDesign and Illustrator (CS3) -- not in Photoshop CS3, Lightroom CS3, Word 2004, Excel 2004, or Apple Mail. It seems like it's only an issue for InDesign and Illustrator because they have the separate the "Page Setup..." function?
Any ideas on what's going on?

    Hi, Ian --
No problem joining in, as I experienced color issues with InDesign CS3 in Tiger, before upgrading to Leopard. While my prints are not showing as much disparity as yours seem to be, the output of a file of mine containing only color swatches that was originally created in InDesign CS2 does not match the output of the same file printed from InDesign CS3. The InDesign CS2-created file was printing out off-colored and muddy looking when printed from InDesign CS3 -- very bad.
As you can read from the link below, however, when I created a new InDesign CS3 file and set up the very same color percentages for the swatches, the output from that file was MUCH better, although it is slightly darker and a little too vivid. While it's a very close match, it still does not accurately represent the true values of those color swatches.
This info may not help your situation. I hope you'll at least get some much improved results very soon.

    Hi,
No it's the same Photoshop .Photography program is just a temporary promotion pack with Photoshop and Lightroom  and it can end anytime .So you can buy Indesign and photography to have Indesign,Photoshop and Lightroom .

  • Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom print discrepancies

    Hello,
I am having an issue with printing from Lightroom.  I have a profile for my printer/driver/inkset that I have used successfully with Photoshop.  When I print an image in Lightroom with the "profile manages" using this profile with the same driver, the image is dark.  the exact same image exported from Lightroom to Photoshop prints beautifully with the same driver/paper/inkset.
I have double and triple-checked my driver and lightroom print settings but cannot find anything that appears out of whack.  I use a saved pre-set to ensure that my printer driver settings are identical each time.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    thank you,
    George Pappas

Thanks for the additional information, Andre.  Your symptions seem to point to the same underlying cause of the problem that I have experienced even though your particulars are different.
I have been quiet on this issue becuase I have been involved in a "deep dive" through the problem with Adobe Technical support and by trying to make sense of the other causes/effects/workarounds found by members of the Lightroom and other forums.  For now, I do not have a solution yet, but hope to have more tangible information and a solution to post within a couple of weeks.
I have been through four tech support interactions with Adobe and one from Canon.  Unfortunately, these calls were less than satisfactory.  While the people on the phone were nice, there very unhelpful and primarily engaged in "pass the buck" behavior by claiming the problem was somewhere else.  The last support call with Adobe lasted 40 minutes with a very nice fellow who gave me USELESS feedback and directed me to a knowledgebase article that had nothing to do with my real problem.
Let me be clear, I am a 20+ year software industry veteran and understand the complexities of this stuff.  It is obvious that Adobe and Canon cannot put fully qualifed (and expensive) people on the first point-of-contact for support issues.  However, they should have a reasonable escalation procedure that routes a  problem of appropriate complexity to a highly qualifed person after a reasonable number of support attempts are unsuccessful in solving the issue.  So far, this has not happened and is very frustrating to me.
Here is what I know of the underlying cause of the issue thus far.  It appears to be caused by the interaction between Lightroom, the operating system's color management, and the printer driver.  In essence, each of us are getting prints that are "double" or "triple" color managed even though we are trying to select one color managment workflow for our output.
Photoshop/InDesign and other adobe applications use their own color management engine called ACE.  Lightroom does things differently and uses the computer's operating system CM functions.  I believe this why my prints continue to look good when printed out of Photoshop yet look lousy (too dark) when printed from Lightroom.  Lightroom is making assumptions when it sends a print data stream to a printer driver that doesn't yield the same result becuase each operating system performs color management tasks somewhat differently and print drivers from Canon/Epson/HP also do not use the operating systems CM functions the same way.  For Mac users, if you add the printing engine architecture change from of Mac O/S 10.4 to Mac O/S 10.5 you throw an additional level of change into the equation which is not helpful.
So, where does that leave all of us who have this problem?  I believe that for a given print driver/profile/operating system, Adobe will need to provide us with a workaround that will result in quality prints.  To do this means that someone in Adobe who has the knowledge has to put together a specific recipe of options that work for the major printer manufacturers/OS's/printers.  The long run solution will, unfortunately, occur over time as Adobe modifies how Lightroom makes certain assumptions when it sends print data streams to printer drivers and printer manufacturers will update their printer drivers to be more bulletproof regarding operating system color managment differences.
Sorry for the long-winded message.  Unfortunately, this is one of those seemingly simple problems that has a lot of underlying complexity and does not yield a "one size fits all" solution.  I will keep this group updated on what I learn as I work with Adobe.
    Best,
    George

  • I am trying to uninstall and reinstall InDesign and a box shows up saying there is a file open, and I can't find it to close it. Before that, InDesign wouldn't open at all.

I was trying to open InDesign and it wouldn't open at all. So I tried to uninstall it, intending to reinstall it to see if that would fix the problem. A box popped up saying a file was open, but I couldn't find the file to close it. What else can I try?

I just uninstalled it and am waiting for it to reinstall. I sincerely hope that I have not lost everything that I worked on so hard. Now that mobile me is gone, I have not been able to go between devices to transfer things. I was merely trying to take a document I had worked on and open it in pages, but it said my version was too old. When I updated, it wouldn't load. Now I cannot do anything. I hope that the reinstall fixes it without losing everything. Please advise!!! Yes, I am in panic mode.

  • Adobe Creative Suite Design CS6 - PhotoShop, InDesign and Illustrator immediately shuts down after startup

I'm troubleshooting for a customer who have Adobe Creative Suite Design CS6.
His programs suddenly wont start, they launches and starts to read plug-ins and open up a workspace, but then without warning/error it shuts down. no log, error message or anything...
It's the same for PhotoShop, InDesign and Illustrator both in 32 bit and 64.
He is running the suit on a Hp EliteBook 8560p with Windows 7 Pro x64 sp1.
He also have had a Wacom Bamboo CTE 650 penpad installed before.
This is what I've done so far:
    * Uninstall the whole suit and reinstalled it again (Done this 3-4 times, manually deleted regestry-files, used CClean and other cleaning tools)
    * Deleted the wacom-drivers with controlpanel tool, Windows driver Clean tool, CClean and manually deleted registry-keys and files.
    * Uninstall Anti-Virus software and replaced it with another, inactivated AV and Windows Firewall.
    * Deleted register-files for the suits and "reregister" them again.
    * Full patch both for windows and adobe softwares.
    * Reboot between each step
    Any suggestions?
I have to add that adobe support for this $2000 software really sucks...
    Thanks!

    Problem solved!
I went through all the folders associated with adobe cs6 and renamed them (one by one) so they would be recreated.
I did this before but seems like I missed this specific one.
Anyway, when I renamed the folder "SLCache" in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ and then ran the applications one by one as administrator I was prompted to enter a serial-key again and log in to my Adobe-ID.

Is Adobe Bridge included in my Creative Cloud Subscription. I have the Photoshop and Lightroom subscription for Mac

Addendum: I can find this on Adobe's Acrobat DC FAQ page:
Can I get Document Cloud services if I’m an active Creative Cloud Member?
Yes. Many Creative Cloud plans include Acrobat Pro DC with Document Cloud services. Explore Creative Cloud plans.
However, if I follow the link to Creative Cloud plans, there is nothing to tell me whether Acrobat Proc DC is included in any of the plans. My plan is a yearly individual at $49.99/month.

  • Keywords in Adobe Bridge CC and Lightroom 5 not working

I recently upgraded to Adobe CC. We use Bridge and Lightroom regularly to tether while shooting, batch process and search for images. I have noticed that files I have keyworded in Bridge will randomly lose the keywords attributed with them. When we shoot tethered to lightroom we will keyword as we shoot but those keywords do not show up in Bridge. This is a huge issue for us. We have thousands of images and plan on using bridge as a tool for our designers and marketing team to search seamlessly for photos based on keywords. If they are randomly disappearing or not carrying through from Lightroom to Bridge it becomes completely unmanageable and completely out of our hands. And a completely useless tool. Any suggestions?

Keyword list in Adobe system, bridge and lightroom, need standardizing. That's what I feel.

  • Do I need a 64 bit processor on my Mac Pro to run CS6 and Lightroom 4?

I would like to install Adobe CS6 and Lightroom 4 on my 2008 Mac Pro but may not have the right processor to run it.  I know I will have to upgrade my OS X 10.5.8 to at least OS X 10.6.8.  The system requirements specify a Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support.  I have a Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor.  Does this mean my Mac will not run this software at all or slowly at best?  Will I only be able to use this software if I buy a new computer?
