Indesign and multi threaded cpu support??????????

When the indesign will finally support multi-core processors?????? It is tragic that adobe dont have any support for multi-core cpu and that this products cost thousends $$$$$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only premiere and some photoshop function support multi-core cpu.

If you are good freelancer you can get money spent on CS back in a month. So I would not call this software expensive. What concerns multi threaded cpu support I believe that programming tools as well as operating systems need to evolve. I am sure that we will get better support in this matter in close future.

    I agree. This is mad. It's 2011 and still no multi-core support. I have a requirement to OCR scanned PDF documents. I get about 100,000 PDFs per month. I hate looking at my Resource Manager and only seeing 1 out of 24 cores being used. What a waste!!!!
    What are you doing about this adobe? It's 2011 and your software is so far behind in this area. Am I missing something. Is there another tool you have that I just don't know about?

  • Memory leaks and multi threading issues in managed client.

    In our company we use a lot of Oracle, and after the release of the managed provider we migrated all applications to it. First the  things were very impressive : the new client was faster, but after some days applications that uses 100MB with old client goes to 1GB and up. The memory is not the only issue, we use a lot of multi threading, and we experience connection drops and not disposal, after 1 days working one of the application had over 100 sessions on the server. I think there is something wrong with connection pool and multi threading.
    Is someone experience same problems.
    Yesterday we went back with unmanaged provider. Now things are back to normal.

    connection drops: did you try to use "Validate Connection=true" parameter in your connection string?
    the new client was faster: are you sure with this statement? Even in 64bit environment? I got quite serious performance problems when running application under 64bit process: https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2595323

    If you build simpserv with -t, and set MIN and MAXDISPATCHTHREADS, you
    should have an example of a multithreaded server.

  • PDF to InDesign and text threads

    I have only a PDF of a 300+ page book. I tried using the PDF2ID plug-in to transfer to InDesign CS3, and it looks clean. However, each page comes in as a separate, unthreaded text block. Is there some way to thread all the pages at once?
    The book is pretty much straight text.
    Alternatively, are there other plug-ins that would do the job?
    Thanks,

    PDF to InDesign and text threads
    Hi Sandee,
    Thanks for your quick answer. I tried the trial version and couldn't get the text frames to link so I wrote to recosoft and got the very puzzling answer below. So I'm wondering how this works. Would you know or would you know the direct contact of the gentleman who spoke at the InDesign meeting in SF in January?
    Thanks,
    Gail

    Text Frame linking is only performed within a page and that also PDF2ID has
    to perform responsible Text Frame linking otherwise frames that shouldn't be
    linked will.
    A PDF file doesn't contain any kind of text frame linking information.
    PDF2ID makes this on its own.

  • Aggregate Storage And Multi-Threading/Multi-Core Systems

    Please pardon if this question has been asked before, but the Forum search is not returning any relevant results.
    We are in the process of purchasing hardware for an 11.1.2 Essbase environment. We are going 64-bit, on Windows 2008, with either 32 GB or 64 GB of system RAM. The debate we are having is the number of CPUs and cores per CPU. We have not built any ASO databases as of yet, but we plan to launch a major BSO to ASO conversion project once 11.1.2 is off the ground here.
    Historically, with BSO, we did not see performance improvements significant enough to justify the cost of additional CPUs when we ran calcs on multi-CPU systems vs. single or dual CPU systems, even when the settings and design should have taken the most advantage of BSO's multi-threading capabilities. However, it would seem that ASO's design may be able to make better use of multi-core systems.
    I know that there are a lot of factors behind any system's performance, but in general, is ASO in 11.1.2 written well enough to make it worthwhile to consider, say, a four CPU, total 16 core system vs. a 2 CPU, total four core system?

    Grand central dispatch - infancy, not really doing its job, and I don't think apps have to be specifically written for HT, but they do have to not do things that they use to - prevent threads from going to sleep! or be parked.
    high usage is not necessarily high efficiency. often the opposite.
    Windows 7 seems to be optimized for multi-core thanks to a lot of reworking. Intel wants and knows it isn't possible to hand code, that the hardware has to be smarter, too. But the OS has a job, and right now I don't think it does it properly. Or handle memory.
    Gulftown's 12MB cache will help, and over all should be 20% more efficient doing its work.
    With dual processors, and it doesn't look like there are two quick path bridges, data shuffling has led to memory thrashing. Use to be page thrashing with not enough memory. Then core thrashing but having the cores, but not integrated (2008 is often touted as being greatest design so far, but it was FOUR dual-cores, 2009 was the first with a processor that really was new design and (native) 4-core.
    One core should be owned by the OS so it is always available for its own work and housekeeping.
    The iTunes audio bug last year showed how damaging and not to implement code and how a thread could usurp processing and add a high cpu temperature while basically doing nothing, sort of a denial of service attack on the processor - those 80*C temps people had.
    All those new technology features under development and not like OpenCL, GCD and even OpenGL are tested, mature but rather 1.0 foundation for the future. A year ahead of readiness.

  • Will there be a bottleneck with 16GB RAM and 32 threads CPU?

    And if so how much of a bottleneck? Is it worth the money to upgrade to 48GB? I have 8x2GB in the HP Z820, but was thinking of getting more RAM from Mr Memory that is compatible with the Z820 for much cheaper than what HP are selling HP branded ram for. I was looking at 8x4GB for around £344 to make 48GB. Is it risky going unbranded or do people do this a lot?
    Thanks
    Costa

    HP can list that it's an option that doesn't mean it's recommended or the best way to do it without having issues. Since the ram controller was moved to the CPU, trying to run asynchronous timings on system boards with Quad channel is asking for problems. If you call the ram manufacturers they wont recommend it with their ram and likely wont support it if they have any clue. Due to how the ram market is so volatile and dimm modules change ram chips from 1 production run to the next , you cant even run 2 different sets of the same model of ram with different manufacturer chips on the dimms. The ram companies will tell you that you need to change them out. I have been dealing with all of the ram variables since tri-channel started on the I7 Gen 1 platform and it only gets more complex with Quad channel. We have our ram custom made just to ensure we have the same manufacturer chips on our dimms regardless of the production along with the same stepping of construction until the wafer has to change. There are far more timings than CAS rating and the most important to compatibility are the sub timings which the manufacturer does not list. HP also can say they only want Grade 1A ram modules for their dimms which is why they are more expensive while that ram manufacturer will use other grades for their own branded ram. Those modules will not work together most of the time if at all. Do what you will but dont say you were not warned. Much of this information is not available to anyone unless they talk to the Engineers over in TW that deal with the dram chip fabs.

  • A problem about event-driven and multi-thread ( maybe?)

    I am thinking of doing a piece of small software. I am going to write a server, storing some dynamic information. and each client (surely in different threads) has a JList, which is supposed to update itself with server, such as adding an item, etc.
    a straightforward example is an IM software, each client stores a list of online buddies, and if a new client logs in, many other clients have to update the buddies list.
    What is a good approach of doing that? I am thinking of adding a public method, addItem() into the thread handler, which adds a new item into the JList. but is it a good design to have a public method other than "run()" in the thread handler?
    Or do I have to define a new event of new item needed to be added?
    Thanks.

    Actually I am just asking for how to design a good communication between the server and the client...
    so just as a client A logging in, the server knows that the client A has logged in, and A,B are friends, B's friend lists should be updated, which means adding A to that list. so I am thinking have a addItem() method in the thread handler of B, so I can call ThreadHandlerB.addItem( A ) in the code of the server, since server knows that A has logged in.
    or is there any good approach? And most importantly, is it a safe way to have a public method in the thread handler?
    Thanks so much!

  • Mutli-Core and Multi-Thread Clusters?

    I have created Quick-Clusters in Compressor, but whenever I try to encode using one, it fails.
    Not sure what to do here.

    There are a few simple things that I would start with.  I was able to get Compressor 4 working on all my cores and even able to "oversubscribe" if you will.  I was even able to do it with Compressor 3.5 installed still.  Not meaning to intentially, but when going to the app store and purchasing Compressor, you dont have much of an option to move it to another drive or partition with ease.
    Start by installing and restarting your computer. Not sure if this is neccasary, but it seemed to clear out a few processes that were running.
    Second, go to preferences and go into apple qmaster.  Stop sharing all services.  You wont be using this anymore.
    Launch Compressor 4.  Go to apple Qmaster within Compressor 4.  Click on Share this computer.  Click on quickcluster.  You can then click the next two options for renduring and compressor and then you can control the number of instances started by clicking on the options tab.
    Once you import the video and add setting click submit. Select the name of your quickcluster and share monitor will pop up.  The rest is history, just like old days with 3.5.
    Hope that helps.  Its a simple process it just took a few minutes to figure out.  The documentation for setting up a quickcluster really sucked.
    Oh, once downloading and starting up Compressor 4 for the first time, you should go get updates, looks like there was a patch for some of the video formats.
    Cant promise it will fix everything but I couldnt even find a simple setup doc or thread.

  • Are anonymous classes reentrant and multi-thread safe?

    Consider the following code. Please let me know how does this code behave wrt to reentrancy and MT. My main confusion is with the "static" keyword.
    Appreciate any inputs. Thanks in advance.
    public abstract class AnAbstract {
       public abstract int abstractFoo();
       public static AnAbstract AnAbstractImpl = new AnAbstract() {
          public int abstractFoo() {
             //do stuff here....
             return 0;
       public static void main(String [] args) {
          System.out.println(AnAbstract.AnAbstractImpl.abstractFoo());
    }

    static has nothing to do with threading.
    Nor is there anything special about anonymous classes.
    As implemented the class is safe.
    However, given that the class is going to do more than the code that you posted the actual implementation might not be safe.

  • Multi-threaded video decoding problem

    I have simple AIR 3.8 application with 2 VideoPlayers:
    <s:WindowedApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
    xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
    xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"
    applicationComplete="init()"
    showStatusBar="false"
    >
    <fx:Script source="MultiVideoPlayer.as" />
    <s:VGroup width="100%" height="100%" >
    <s:HGroup width="100%" height="100%" id="row1" >
    <s:VideoPlayer width="100%" height="100%" source="assets/2.mp4"/>
    <s:VideoPlayer width="100%" height="100%" source="assets/3.mp4"/>
    </s:HGroup>
    </s:VGroup>
    </s:WindowedApplication>
    Both videos are H.264 Full HD samples.
    I launch application and multi-threaded decoding works fine - all cores are involved and CPU usage is around 70%.
    When I replace source of VideoPlayers with exactly same files programmatically - videos are reloading, but they doesn't play smoothly and multi-threaded decoding isn't working anymore - CPU usage drops to 10%.
    Is there any way  to force use of multi-threaded video decoding when videos are loaded dynamically?

    After some hunting I found a Twitter post confirming that StageVideo on AIR 3.2 is not supported on Desktop.
    But one of the notable features of Flash Player 11.2 is Multi-threaded video decoding.
    Does this mean that standard (non-StageVideo) implementations of Video are now automatically using a separate CPU thread?
    If so, this would be a reasonable workaround for smooth video on Desktop.
    Here's Adobe's description of the feature...very vague.
    Multithreaded video decoding (Windows, Mac OS, and Linux) — The video decoding pipeline is now fully multithreaded. This feature should improve the overall performance on all platforms. Note that this feature is a significant architecture change required for other future improvements.

  • Multi threading under single file channel

    Hi,
      We have File-Proxy scenario .
    We are using fCC sender channel and using
    recordset sequence as varaibale
    recordsets per message was 250.
    When large size file like 2GB was processed, PI is taking 45-50 min to process the file and from proxy end its taking 8 hrs to process this file.
    we are using one channel and 250 recordsets per message by chunking file and process to target. We are following EOIO for sequence for these chunk files.
    with this approach in PI target system proxy is taking huge time to process.
    experts suggested using multi threading and multiple channels are the ideal solution for this issue.
    am expecting with multiple channels and multi threading  will cause issue for receiver proxy  because of more objects and current approach is fine.
    Please suggest any other alternatives we can acheive in PI with respect to this issue?
    Note: I checked blog for file chunk option under Adv parameters and I cant use that here as FCC and Mapping is there .
    Rgds,
    aman

    Hi Aman,
    We had file to proxy interface and the XML payload of the proxy was around 400mb...to reduce the time taken in PI in mapping step we reduced the XML payload of the proxy by cutting the XML tagnames.
    for example an xml field <firstname>Anand</firstname> was converted to <f>Anand</f>
    with this we were able to achieve about 40-50% reduction in XML payload the file and a good improvement in the time taken by PI mapping to process the file.
    Hope it helps,
    Thanks,
    Anand

  • Connection Pooling in OCCI Vs Multi-Threading.

    Hi,
    I am working on an application in which I am using OCCI( Oracle C++ Call Interface)  and multi-threading concepts.
    My application is having different clients( Ex: Client-A, Client-B) and I am offering a set of operations( functions that trigger the Stored Procedures of DataBase ) which are common to all the clients.Each Client can send asynchronous requests of any number.So, is there any chance of using single connection( not connection pooling) to the Data Base for all the clients to manage their requests ?
    Note: Multi-threaded requests are also allowed from each client.
    How can I co-relate multithreading and Connection Pooling in OCCI?
    Can I you multi-threading without Connection Pooling? If so how?
    Will the connection pooling is needed if there is no multi threading concept in my application?
    Please help me on this. Very urgent.
    Thanks in Advance..:)

    Connections are resources that the application uses and a fewer connections can be used by multiple threads if the threads are not always busy with the database activity only, and are doing other work too. This sharing (pooling) can be implemented by the application or the application can leverage the connection pooling features offered by OCI/OCCI (recommended).
    Be aware of connections vs sessions and sharing them (refer to :
    OCI Programming Advanced Topics
    OCCIConnectionPool is to pool connections and OCCIStatelessConnectionPool is to pool sessions. Please see the differences in the above link and apply as appropriate.

  • Analysis for Office support multi thread?

    Does Analysis for Office support multi thread/core? If so, what verison? I tried searching around this site as well as note 1466118 - Hardware & Software requirements for Analysis, edition for MS Office but was unable to find an answer.
    I am on an Intel dual cpu with hyper threading turned on so it essentially looks like 4 cores. When I execute an Analysis View, I rarely see the EXCEL.EXE process go above 25% CPU utilization. I have plenty of RAM and hard drive space.
    64bit Windows 7
    32bit Office 2010
    AAO 1.3.5.2288
    Thanks

    I found the following info at:
    Excel 2010 Performance: Performance and Limit Improvements
    Large Data Sets and 64-bit Excel
    The 64-bit version of Excel 2010 is not constrained to 2 GB of RAM like 32-bit applications. Therefore, 64-bit Excel 2010 enables users to create much larger workbooks. 64-bit Windows enables a larger addressable memory capacity, and 64-bit Excel is designed to take advantage of that capacity. For example, users are able to fill more of the grid with data than was possible in previous versions of Excel. As more RAM is added to the computer, Excel uses that additional memory, allows larger and larger workbooks, and scales with the amount of RAM available.
    In addition, because 64-bit Excel enables larger data sets, both 32-bit and 64-bit Excel 2010 introduce improvements to common large data set tasks such as entering and filling down data, sorting, filtering, and copying and pasting data. Memory usage is also optimized to be more efficient, in both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Excel.
    Multi-Core Processing
    Additional investments were made to take advantage of multi-core processors and increase performance for routine tasks. Starting in Excel 2010, the following features use multi-core processors: saving a file, opening a file, refreshing a PivotTable (for external data sources, except OLAP and SharePoint), sorting a cell table, sorting a PivotTable, and auto-sizing a column.
    For operations that involve reading and loading or writing data, such as opening a file, saving a file or refreshing data, splitting the operation into two processes increases performance speed. The first process gets the data, and the second process loads the data into the appropriate structure in memory or writes the data to a file. In this way, as soon as the first process beings reading a portion of data, the second process can immediately start loading or writing that data, while the first process continues to read the next portion of data. Previously, the first process had to finish reading all the data in a certain section before the second process could load that section of the data into memory or write the data to a file.
