InDesign and the Printing industry

Will future InDesign upgrades continue to support the features of preparing documents, brochures, pamphlets, etc., for prepress? I ran across a forum in the "InDesignSecrets" site and there was discussion of InDesign will continue in the direction of "paperless" only. This can't be true. Can you please clear this up? Hopefully I just didn't get the whole story.
We have been using InDesign for all our prepress needs for the last 5 years.

InDesign's core user group is the print industry, so that support isn't likely to go away any time soon, but the reality of the world is that more and more of what used to be output to paper is now going to alternate media (look at how many newspapers and magazines have gone out of business lately, or are in financial hot water), and InDesign will continue to expand those capabilities in order to remain competitive.
Add to that the relative maturity of the print workflow and you can expect more in the way of enhancements and improvements of existing features for print than major new capabilities (though if you can think of some major lack, I'm sure the InDesign team would like to hear from you).

I created a PDF file from InDesign and the printing company wants me to convert to curves...

... I don't have Illustrator, so I don't see how I can convert the file to curves and I really don't understand why I should have to. The file prints fine from my printer and when they proofed in on their printer there were no errors. So, why would they want me change it to an Illustrator file and convert to curves? This seems like the technology is going backwards instead of forward to me. Does anybody have any answers besides telling me to buy Illustrator (or subscribe to it) or telling me to recreate the document (which I don't have time to do? Thanks.

You should never convert font to outlines in InDesign, because:
You loose automatic numbers and bullets,
you loose paragraph rules,
you loose underline and strikethroug
you loose automatic follow up numbers
you loose text frames stroke and color.
Outlining is not possible with objects from the master without overriding, overiding will change the result in many cases, outlining on the master will either delete text or outline placeholders.
Outlining will be a huge problem with threads as you cannot outline the whole thread in one single step.
Peters method will not work without problems as such a preset had to be created in CS4 or earlier, it will not work with CS5 or later.
The only working method is to educate your printer.
Ask him why he wants to outline the text? How does he open your PDF? The only program he is allowed to open it is Acrobat or Reader.

This printer has worked for me with out fail at my house. I am traveling in an RV and am at the mercy of the RV Wifi. I do not have access to the router. The printer has been recycled a number of times as well as the Ipad. The printer is set up and has access to the wifi. I have a pc running windows 7. I got an Airport Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi and the printer is now plugged into the Airport. The wireless router works fine but the printer shows as offline in control panel and in word. The printer is a HP LaserJet CP1525nw.

+For now I have it set to Share Public IP address - Is this correct for my Network Setup with The Airport Extreme being the only router being used ?+
This would be the correct setting if the AirPort Extreme is connected to a simple modem (one ethernet port).
*Settings I have Enabled*
5 GHz name indicates that you have elected to use the option to assign a separate name to the 5 GHz network. This will allow you to "tell" compatible computers to connect to that network, rather than the slower 2.4 GHz network
Use Wide Channels is recommended for 5 GHz operation.
Interference Robustness often does more harm than good and should not be used unless you know you are in a area with a lot of wireless networks and you feel that your network is experiencing interference issues from a nearby network.

I just wanted to leave a note that it's working now. I'm not sure if it was the latest iTunes update that got it working or that i decided to start a new library instead of using the one i had backed up on Windows 8 (it didn't occur to me to check using the old library when i re-installed iTunes). But if anyone is having this problem, it might be worth trying again with a new installation of iTunes to see if the latest update works for you, and if not, try using a fresh library instead of a backup (by fresh library i mean discard your old library completely and start a new library, not just restore as new iPhone, a whole new library).

I'm attempting to create a pdf from InDesign and the Illustrator logo does not appear properly. The logo has a light blue color background with a black to white gradiant over it with a multiply designation set at 100%. I flattened the logo in illustrator before importing into InDesign. When the pdf is created, the blue background of the logo drops out and the only thing showing is the graduated screen of black. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

I'm on Mac OSX (10.5.8) using Acrobat 7 Professional and Acrobat
Reader 9 to view the pdf. I created it by exporting. Attached is a
screen capture of the letterhead. Since I posted, I sent a test pdf to
my partner's computer eventhough it didn't look right on my system and
she said it looked fine to her. I've restarted my computer and tried
again and still get the same results.

Why do we have to install 2 add ins for something that should be built in? Please add this to the next version or an update to this one even. We should see the full path of a bookmark when we search for it. Show Parent Folder alone isn't enough if you have sub folders, so I installed Go Parent Folder as well in case of sub folders.

No it's the same Photoshop .Photography program is just a temporary promotion pack with Photoshop and Lightroom and it can end anytime .So you can buy Indesign and photography to have Indesign,Photoshop and Lightroom .

right click a blank area of the toolbar, click Customize. You'll see the printer icon there. Drag and drop it to where you want.
You can also find this option under View -> Toolbars -> Customize.

Error The PC and the printer are connected to different networks

I'm trying to set up my C4580 on my laptop, but I'm getting the following error after the diagnostic test:
The PC and the printer are connected to different networks(237DB2A87D and 66616B65). They must be connected to the same network. This can happen when you use the manufacturer's default network name (SSID) and another nearby network is using the same name.
My setup is a Linksys router WRT546, my laptop is conntected wireless to the router. I have two other desktop computers that are directly connected to the router. Both the desktops are able to connect wireless to the printer. My router SSID name is 'Blair Office' with WPA security.
I get a internet connect fine with the laptop, but can't get the new printer to setup.
I saw another post that talked about 'Print the C45** Network Configuration Page', but not sure how to do this

This reply may be late for this user, but it might be helpful for any current users.
I managed to change the modem's IP address to match that of the printer. In my case the printer worked fine wirelessly until I moved to a new place and installed a new modem. Here is what I did to solve the problem:
1. At the printer, click on the wireless button, wireless settings, print network configuration page. This will print a page with the printer's IP address (in my case: 192.168.0.13)
2. I accessed my modem via the internet browser, typing 192.168.1.1 (this is one of the default addresses (192.168.0.1 is also common). Default user and password is admin (usually). There I changed the modem's IP address to 192.168.0.1 and the range to start at 192.168.0.13 (my printer's IP address).
3. I saved the settings (the modem will reboot and you will be offline, it may take some 20 seconds before the modem is visible again).
4. Reconnect to the modem and check if internet is still working. Then try to install the printer again.
This worked for me after I read several other postings.
