Indesign and video

I'd like to put video into a pdf for which I am doing the layout in Indesign.
Can I place the video in Indesign? Or do I have to add it to the pdf in Acrobat?
And also, what video format should be used? This pdf may be used on a variety of different computer platforms.

Don't forget to export to PDF 1.5 minimum (Acrobat 6.0) in the export pannel tick the "export dynamic elements" and choose to link all videos, unless you will have static pdf. Are there the right terms, my Indesign is in French

Plus, When I open it in EPUB reader (ibook) and Adobe Digital Edition, It shows nothing.
What I want to do is to create an EPUB which contains image, and sound. I want to make the image as a button which plays sound when I click it. I did it by setting he button to play when clicked, but again, it is not showing at all when published to EPUB.

Indesign CS5.5 and video

All programs are level CS5.5
Placing a single SWF file or FLV file with video (images and audio) on a pdf page, seem to function ok although the pdf page with the video on it is delayed by several seconds before turning to another page. This very irritating at a presentation.
But when functionality becomes a trifle more complex, it goes completely wrong. Par exemple:
For one pdf page I have 3 swf files with video (images+audio) between which the user can switch which is accomplished by a 4th swf file with the stage and action code. Make use of the UILoader component and the Create a List component in Flash. Only the swf file with the code is put on the pdf file.
Although the switching works when the swf's are run standalone with the Flash Reader, it does not work in an interactive pdf.
Now realizes that there are probably seperate flash reader engines in the Flash Reader and in the PDF Reader and the last one has less functionality as the 1st one.
When using the pdf with the 4th swf file the pdf wants to go to an obscure adobe website - not the official one - and thereafter an error tells me it cannot find the other swf files. I run the pdf Reader from the same directory as the Flash Reader.
Is there anybody who has an idea how this could be accomplished or solved?

Incopy link will not update in InDesign and XML Story files

So I have a couple of questions.
I work for a publisher and we have a standard InDesign to Incopy workflow. Recently we have started having issues with InCopy links. First some basic info would probably be helpful. We use Windows XP =(, and we are using InDesign and Incopy CS3. All of our files are on a server. When I or people on my team sometimes attempt to update Incopy links, they will simply not update. Then when we check the link it says that it is zero k in size and is pretty much fried, cannot open in Icopy or InDesign. Why this is so nasty is because if the file cannot be updated all the work in the story that was done in InCopy is lost. Then to make matters worse, if we unlink the incopy file sometimes when we go to save indesign completely crashes. Is this a permissions issue as our IT department is fairly ignorant about design workflows on servers and has been inconsistent about the permissions. Also these .xml files seem to be populating the folder where we keep our InDesign files, when we open them they have basic information on the story links. I have attempted to find out more info on these files but have had very little luck.
Any info would be helpful.

How difficult is it to digitally publish a newsletter if one knows Indesign and Dreamweaver well?

I have been asked to quote the cost of turning a newsletter produced in Indesign into a digital format for iPad and Android tablet using the Digital Publishing Suite professional edition. I have never used it but I'm very versed in Indesign and also Dreamweaver so my question is directed more towards learning curve.
From what I can tell, previous newsletters had mostly static content accessible via and index page. Some page titles were animated and there was embedded video.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

And video sharing ?

Well.. We have now the sync early access. I guess it's a good thing.
But you know, Adobe, we use your product for video. Maybe at 99%.
And as for now, it seems that the only solution to share a video to our clients with CC is to zip it, then sync, then share the .zip so our clients can download it, extract it, then review it and send us an email with all their good ideas.
So much for the integration on this one. Wetransfer still is an easier workflow as you don't have to sit on your hands watching the file being uploaded, in order to be able to send the link. AND the client does'nt have to extract a .zip to see the video. (And we are lucky our clients are mostly agencies very used to compression and video formats, but I think some clients would just call us complaining about the fact the .zip video file would'nt play, even in VLC).
So, question :
Have you any ideas on when a REAL video sharing will be available on CC ?
Something crazy like a video player on the web page !
With a crazy comments box !
(Not mentionning access monitoring and user tracking, I guess it's a 349$/m wiredrive feature)
You know Adobe, we love you so much here. We love your products, we live with them. Really all day / week / month / year long. We get used with all the little strange things you do (OMG, we can use OMF natively now !). But sometimes, we really don't get you.
I think what's REALLY irritating here is that we all see the potential of what you're trying to do. And we all WANT that. And you keep telling us it's coming, so we wait.
But every time the little things that are missing are extremely important for us, and does'nt seem THAT difficult to implement.
I mean. A video player.
Are you still struggling with flash vs H264 ? Let it go.
Please Adobe, get your * together, and help us to go on with you.
And please give us a timeline. So we can decide of what we'll do.

Agreed. My team is currently contemplating upgrading the office to Adobe Creative Cloud for Teams, and I'm the trigger man. It's up to me to convince my Creative Director and CFO that going this route would be a good idea. Unfortunately the more I read about the missing features, the more hesitant I am to champion what is my favorite collection of software.
I don't understand why Adobe got rid of Adobe CS Review. Remember that? It was almost perfect. You could upload your video straight from Premiere (or Iillustrator,Photoshop,Indesign) onto a review site, where your client could make comments and markup at the frame. Those comments would then update into Premiere and show up on the timeline as markers.
What happened to that? I remember when they got rid of it they cited that they did so because of a lack of user interest. Yet Adobe turns around and comes out with Adobe CC!? Whose whole point is collaboration, some of which happens within a browser. Kinda like Adobe CS Feview, but now without all the useful features like markup features.
Clearly Adobe possesess the ability to roll out this kind of a feature. They've already had such a feature before, and it worked really well.

Capacity of the computer to handle all programmes from Adobe - and at least: photoshop, illustrator and Indesign and a website.

My computer an Acer from 2005 with a 32 bit Ram and Window Vista - could not even download Photoshop - and I need to buy a new one - as I have to build my own Website - a newssite.
What technical data should I look after in a new computer to fulfill my needs?
Is Windows 7 the best to use for handling Adobe?

How do i share media (music and videos) between all of my devices?

i currently have (and attempt to use as much as possible) the following devices: macbook pro 15", ipad 4, iphone 6 plus 64 GB, and appletv 2.
i would love it if these devices would talk to each other correctly. first came the macbook, and i took an internal 2 tb drive cannibalized from my previous pc and transformed it into an external. that drive is desinated as my media drive, it includes all of my video and music. the macbook and the appletv talk to each other flawlessly. every music and video file on that drive is accesible to me using apple tv.
next up is the ipad, which includes some of my videos (movies), but no tv shows. music also does not show up, only options to buy from the store. but i already have a music library that includes many songs downloaded from the store that dont show up, only some stupid U2 album that i never downloaded.
finally, we get to the iphone, which i just got. i get no shared music or videos here at all.
by the way, all settings are set to share with each device in settings and itunes. each device talks to one another. i know this because there is some level of sharing on each device (ie ipad gets videos, iphone shares spreadsheets and other productivity files. appletv shares everything. i now want to sync these devices so that they can share the same data while on the same home network. i should be able to do this, right?
also, i know that i can airdrop/transfer but thats not really what im looking to do atm.

How do I use my web cam to record audio and video? I can get the video to work but no sound.

I want to record both audio and video at the same time. The video works fine but not the audio. I do use Skype without any problems using both.

You did not say what webcam software you are using...

YouCam > Right-Side Settings >
Right-Side, Lower-Right, Select a working Microphone from the Drop down list

CHECK "Capture with audio"

You can also buy (for $38 US) YouCam 5.0 from the Cyberlink.com website and it has audio/video and all sorts of other goodies, too. (They have 3.x as well, but why buy what HP already gives you?)

I am trying to uninstall and reinstall InDesign and a box shows up saying there is a file open, and I can't find it to close it. Before that, InDesign wouldn't open at all.

I was trying to open InDesign and it wouldn't open at all. So I tried to uninstall it, intending to reinstall it to see if that would fix the problem. A box popped up saying a file was open, but I couldn't find the file to close it. What else can I try?

I just uninstalled it and am waiting for it to reinstall. I sincerely hope that I have not lost everything that I worked on so hard. Now that mobile me is gone, I have not been able to go between devices to transfer things. I was merely trying to take a document I had worked on and open it in pages, but it said my version was too old. When I updated, it wouldn't load. Now I cannot do anything. I hope that the reinstall fixes it without losing everything. Please advise!!! Yes, I am in panic mode.

Please HELP! My kid wiped my iPhone5 and I need to get my photos and videos off it! I have no backup with iTunes :(( Is there a way to scan the device manually?

New to this, so go easy on me. I recently got my first iDevice - an iPhone 5. I've used it for a month now and I have to say I love it.
But, I gave it to my kid this morning to look at. It was locked, so I assumed it was safe. WRONG. 5 mins later, I returned to him and my lovely iPhone5 was at the setup /pick your language screen! Looks like he entered the password incorrectly too many times and wiped it.
Now - I thought it would be fairly easy to recover the data and the apps - but it turns out this is not the case. I was never prompted to install iTunes and sync the device - not in the manual, not on the device when setting it up - so how was I to know that that would be my backup. I checked iCloud at a suggestion of an IT pal - nothing there, despite knowing that I had a Photo stream enabled. I may have disabled it only recently, but not sure if I can manually turn it on again?
Anyway - is there a way to manually scan my device and grab my all important photos and videos?

I really need emergency iphone help- please- it has gone into restoration mode and wont come out unless i click restore- if i do will i loose all my photos and videos etc? please help!!!

i recently plugged my iphone4 into my laptop to sync, when i plugged it in, itunes told me that i needed to update my software, so i clicked up date and walked awayfrom my computer leaving it to do the rest, but by the time i came back to my laptop 2-3 hours later i had realized that it has run out of charge and because of it my phone had gone into retoration mode- and the only way to fix it was to press restore. what do i do? do i click restore or will that take my phone back to factory settings as i have a tonne of photos and videos etc that i have not backed up yet?
what should i do anny coments or ideas please let me know!

The first step in the upgrade process is a backup.
Did iTunes not create a new backup when you first connected it?
You really should be syncing your device and copying pictures off of it on a regular basis.
Starting an upgrade without first syncing and copying the pictures off is not a bright idea.
At this point, you only option is to restore.
Also, in the future, ensure your laptop is plugged into external power before starting upgrades.
