InDesign black ink is printing grey not black on Canon MP470 printer

Just installed a new IMac computer. I have two printers available. Canon MP470 connected via USB port and a HP Photosmart 6510 connected via WI-FI. When printing InDesign documents on the Canon printer all colors print a weak color (black is grey etc.). The same document printed on the HP Photosmart 6510 black prints as black and other colors appear normal as designed. Illustrator documents printed in black on both machines print black. Have I messed up a setting?

I have had the following Preferences set:
On Screen: Display all Blacks as Rich Black
Printing/Exporting: Output all Blacks as Rich Black
and have also checked to activate:
Overprint [Black] Swatch at 100%

I have been having the same issue with the Canon iEPP app not detecting the printer using an iPhone 4S, 5S and iPad Air. I was on the phone with Canon IT support and the devices and apps can communicate with the printer when I type in the printer IP address in the Safari browser.
I have Comcast Xfinity for interner and have a Linksys Wireless-G router.
I tried about 5 different free app which support my Canon MX870 printer and none can detect the printer.
Any suggestions?

HP 5510 wil not print in black ink after installing a new black ink cartridge

My HP 5510 printer will not print in black ink after installing an official HP black ink cartridge. I see other people have had the same problem. I have gone through all the troubleshooting suggestions.
I would like to know if anyone has been able to fix this problem. I just spend money on a new XL cartridge. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are running into some print quality issues on your HP Photosmart 5510, you are unable to print in black ink.
I would like you to continue here: Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages, I understand you may have done some of these steps already but I need you to complete all steps in order to resolve the missing black issue you are experiencing.
Please note: There are three printhead cleaning stages. Complete all three stages if necessary. If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes after the last (third) cleaning stage to start the first stage of the cleaning process over again.
If you are still unable to print in black ink, I suspect the issue may be the printer and not the cartridge. Please let me know which Country/Region you are in as well as the product Warranty status: HP Warranty Checker

Black ink cartridge in my Photosmart c309g-m won't print

I have an HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m printer. The black ink was low so I replaced the cartridge with a brand new HP564 black ink cartridge (not the photo black ink cartridge). The printer will not print the black ink cartridge since I replaced it. I have replaced it with a new black ink cartridge twice thinking that perhaps the first one was bad. I have shut down the printer as instructed and waited. I unplugged the power source and unplugged it from my computer. After waiting the instructed time period, I plugged everything back in, turned the printer back on and attempted to print again. The black ink cartridge still will not print.The color cartridges and the photo black ink cartridge are printing. I have done several clean printhead routines. I even attempted an alignment (this has failed). Now since the alignment procedure has failed, the printer attempts the alignment every time I turn it back on. This procedure continues to fail since the black ink cartridge still won't print! I am wasting all my color and photo black ink! What can I do to correct this problem?The error messages that I received were Oxc19a0007 and Oxc19a00013. I could not find any other solutions for this problem.

I have the same problem as redtailhawk, however no error messages. I have an HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m printer/copier/scanner. The cyan, magenta, and photo black cartridges were all low, so I replaced them with remanufactured HP564XL cartridges from 4inkjets.com, which apparently are from LD Products, which is on the labels on each cartridge. These are what I already had installed, and have been using sucessfully for the past two years or so. The printer will not print using the black ink cartridge since I replaced the other three cartridges. I believe, actually, that I tried to put a document and only the color text printed before I replaced the three cartridges. I tried another remanufactured black ink cartridge, thinking that the one I had installed might have become bad somehow. What I have tried:1. I cleaned the printheads from the printer network page, then did a 2nd deeper cleaning.2. I performed a hard reset by unplugging the printer while it was on, after it got finished performing all tasks, then plugged it back in 30-60 seconds later.3. I verified that all cartridges were properly vented.4. I soaked the printheads in hot water and noticed that quite a bit of ink flushed out of them. However, when I reinstalled the printheads and cartridges, all my ink level went down at least 50%. Before I removed the printhead, I also noticed that there was some black ink on the printhead that looks like it had leaked from the cartridge prossibly. When I run a print quality report or printer status report, I see that the black does not print at all; the other four cartridges all displays their levels. Also, every time I try to align the cartridges, the alignment fails. I do not get any error messages, though. I am running Windows 7 (x64) and printing via USB. I also tried printing via bluetooth as well as using the web services printer, neither of which worked. I also booted into Windows 8.1 (x64) RTM and attempted to print, but I'm having the same problem. Please advise me on what I can do to fix this problem, or if I have to buy another printhead. My original computer died and I am now trying to import my ipod music on to my new computer. I got instructions to do a back up, but I can not select this becaust it is grey not black. Help please

My old computer crashed so the only place I have my music library is on my ipod. I am trying to copy my old music into my library in itunes but can't find instructions on the internet that work. I can not back up my device because back up shows up as a npt selectable item in the menu (grey not black). I can not copy my old libray over because the old computer crashed. Any suggestions?

Backlighting very grey not black

Hello just wanted to ask someone about backlighting i received anew ipod and the contrast is very light grey not black like my other ipod is this normal ? they are both 4th gen. but one is brand new one is older the new one looks very grey not black and not much contrast, could it be defective or something? does anyone know? Screen Sharing not Working Grey not Black

Can't seem to find any posts that are helpful with the problem. Was using Screen Sharing with my Inlaws the other night to help them, but now it won't let them share their screen with me. I can share my screen with them but not the otherway around. Has anyone run into this same problem and successfully resolved it?

Do the files you're trying to open have this extension: .dvdproj ? How are you attempting to open them?

It sounds like the features are working through the USB connection rather than the wireless connection since it is still not seeing the networks.
Everything points to a hardware failure since the steps provided through the private message did not work and the wireless test showed it had failed. Sorry.
You do have some options at this point.
If it is under warranty, either standard or extended, you can contact HP support at 1-800-474-6836 to have it serviced under warranty.
If it is out of warranty, you can still contact HP support to find out all the options and the cost of each option. However, it is my opinion that this money would be better spend being applied towards a new printer.

Report printer was not valid, switching to default printer.

We are using a Crystal Report viewer in Tomcat. Everything works but sometimes in the Tomcat log we get the following error:
ERROR com.crystaldecisions.reports.reportdefinition.ReportDefinition - Report printer was not valid, switching to default printer.
Is there a way to stop this error from being reported? If not, is it safe to ignore since everything appears to be working fine?

Generally safe to ignore, unless of course you want to print to that printer
Just means report was designed connected to specific printer which is not available where you are now publishing report. YOu could try going into printer set up and selecting No Printer.

It depends on exactly what printer you have. For example, if you have an old Epson printer that is not AirPrint compatible, there is an iPad app called Epson iPrint that will allow you to print from certain selected programs (e.g., Safari, photos).

Thanks to searching the community I have got a result. Power off and reboot (press front home button together with top right button) = air print is now recognising my Canon air printer. This reboot is useful for clearing similar types of problems.

Printing square picture. Outside area prints grey, not white

I have been printing from Ap for years, and just noticed a new problem. I'm printing some square photos (cropped from rectangular), and when printed on my Epson 3800 the remainder of the rectangle is grey. This is NOT the case on my Canon 9000 printer, which prints a square pic on a white background. Oddly enough, the Canon has the same problem printing from Photoshop; the Epson prints perfectly from PS. Can anyone explain where there is a setting for the background color outside my cropped image?

Have you tried more than one type of printer? I have seen this happen as a result of the drivers used for a particular printer. Also is the modified color table being passed to the control that's being printed?
Could you post your code (in V6 format) along with one of your pictures?

This is because HP has not provided network USB drivers to allow scanning when the all-in-one is connected to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme.
HP has only provided drivers to allow printing when the all-in-one is connected to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme. To be fair, other manufacturers who offer all-in-one products do the same thing.
If you need to scan documents, you will need to connect the all-in-one to the USB port on your computer....until HP offers full featured network USB drivers. Check with HP Support for possible progress in this regard.
If your all-in-one happens to offer wireless connection options or wired Ethernet options to connect to your network, you should have full functionality that way.
