InDesign CC 2014 crash when saving

I have a random issue where InDesign CC 2014.2 crashes randomly, but I can trigger it regularly when trying to Save to network.  I've researched the error report Apple gives me, but there are no forums or solves that have worked.  I've tried reinstalling CC, uninstalling only InDesign CC 2014, trashing my preferences, I even blanked the machine and loaded all my stuff back onto it and it still crashes.  I've attached the link to the pastebin with the raw dump file.  Please help, Adobe!

Are you saving across a network? It looks like it might be losing the connection.

  • Indesign CC 2014 crashes when printing to Fiery server

This is to remind Adobe that issues printing to Fiery print servers from Indesign CC 2014 (10.0 or 10.1) on Mac have not been resolved.
A patch has been provided here: InDesign & Illustrator | Crash while printing to Fiery RIP | MacOS   --- however, the problem persists after patching. I should note that the fix at that link only pertains to Indesign 10.0. If you download Indesign 2014 from Creative Cloud you would, at this time, receive 10.1. That script will break 10.1 completely. There is no fix for 10.1.
The original thread for this discussion is here: Indesign CC 2014 crashes when printing   It's marked 'Answered' and methinks the ongoing conversation there has been over-looked.
I am bumping this topic to keep the conversation fresh. If anyone else has found solutions to printing to Fiery from Indesign 10.x either by updating Fiery directly or with additional scripts or workarounds, please share them here.
I could publish one of my 10.1 crash logs if I could be advised which pieces are most important, or how to post the unabridged without spamming the forum.
That's the constructive bit. Here's my rant...
After speaking to Adobe on the phone, they tell me this isn't resolved yet because it affects only a small subset of people. I called some peers at other agencies across my region and learned they all use Indesign with Fiery servers. We are not an isolated few! (those fortunate individuals I spoke to are still using CS6 -- and I received some jovial ribbing for having my on-going CC subscription.) I have a lot of printing to do on the Fiery now that these projects are finishing, but i'm held up while down-saving these projects to be used in CC (9.x). Its frustrating, its time-consuming, and its simply unacceptable to CC subscribers as we move in to 2015. I urge Adobe to work with EFI to solve this problem once and for all.

InDesign CC 2014 crashes when creating alternative layouts. I successfully created alternative layouts in 3 documents, now I cannot create any at all, it just crashes the program.

I just taught a class using Alternative Layouts in InDesign CC 2014 without crashing.

Same problem here, crashes when finishing printing process, never happened before.
And no - it's not the driver or Mavericks - It functioned without problems before installing CC 2014,
except the rising amount of bugs in Indesign...

  • Indesign CC 2014 crashes when duplicated pages within pages panel

running InDesign CC 2014 - mavericks 10.9.3. If I have content on say page one and within the pages panel I click and drag page one to the new page icon (something I do all the time to duplicate a page and it's content) it crashes InDesign. This is happening when I have copy pasted gradient mesh objects from illustrator to indesign. they paste in just fine, and I can copy paste those objects around, but not the whole page within the page panel

    Hello march67,
Thanks for the test file. We could reproduce the crash.
We've identified the reason for the crash in your file. The problematic object is the RSS feed icon at the top right of the spread.
We've determined a fix for the crash and it should be available to all users in one of the upcoming patches. In the meanwhile, to prevent the crash, you could use the following workaround : Cut this object onto the clipboard. Duplicate the spread. Then paste the icon back in its place (Edit > Paste in Place).
    Sorry for the trouble.
    Thanks,

  • InDesign CC 2014 crashing when I try to update the links

InDesign CC 2014 isn't responding after I updated the links.
I replaced InDesign preferences, moved the missing links into the right file (instead of relinking).  The problem is still there and Indesign still not responding. I had to press CMD+ALT+ESC to force to quit.  Never had problems when I used InDesign CC and I'm experiencing a lot of trouble since I updated to CC 2014 version.
    I'm working on MAC.
Any clue how to solve this?

    Hi Laneway,
I can't reproduce that issue. Can we get more info? FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?
    Thanks,

  • InDesign CC 2014 - crash when using links

This issue started happening right after I updated to the CC 2014 version. I am using a Windows 7. I thought it was a memory issue so I make sure to have as little browser/program activity as possible - I noticed it happened more frequently if I was streaming music for example. I'm not sure if that is the problem though, because it just happened again and I didn't have much activity going on. I saved my illustrator documents, closed all the .ai files, then went into InDesign (with only 1 doc open) and updated a link that I changed, then I tried to re-link an image to a new file, was able to browse for the file, but once I clicked open I got the same error.
"InDesign has encountered a problem..." It tries to figure it out, but it doesn't, I do not even have an error code, and then I'm forced to close the program. Fortunately my document is restored in its last state.
Sometimes it crashes before I can browse for a file. Sometimes is happens when I go to Place a new file. Sometimes it happens when I update a link, or even just click on a link.
Again, I have been using InDesign CC for months without this crashing issue, so I'm pretty sure its a bug with the 2014 release.
Please fix it soon!! It's getting really annoying to re-open the program multiple times in one sitting!

Not that I am aware of. The only special font plug-in/program I know about is TypeKit, and I've rarely used it.
As for other programs, I can't think of any non-adobe plugin that might have an impact on Adobe.
Java? Wacom Tablet Plugin? I haven't used my tablet in weeks though.
I'm working on a Dell. The only other programs I had open at the time were Microsoft Outlook, and Gmail in my Chrome Browser.

  • InDesign CS2 file crashing when saving or using save as

(This is on a Windows XP system)
I have a file that ran fine until the last few pages were edited. The file is a mock-up and has very few links and only 3 different fonts. The file opens fine and I can edit everything, and print. The actual program and document seem to work fine. However, when I attempt to save changes or export it crashes In Design and I get the "reference memory cannot be read" message (50%) of the time. Other times no error message is reported. Sometimes the changes have actually been saved and other times they are not. With the "save as function" I get a 50/50 return on a new file. I have tried re-naming the file, opening the file on another computer and the same thing happens. My other ID files are fine. Everything works fine until I try to save the document.
I've tried the fixes for my system like removing unnecessary fonts. I relinked all my links, changed my display resolution to "fast" to no avail. It truly seems to be an issue with the file not the program. Is there any wisdom on this issue? Ideas for how I might salvage or repair a damaged file so it can be saved?
    HELP!

Since this is isolated to a single file, try exporting it to Interchange Format (.inx), then open and save the resulting file as a new InDesign file.
Since the problem occurs during export, that may not be possible. Another option to try would be to copy all elements, page by page, and "paste in place" into a new document the same size. If you used layers, be sure to enable "paste remembers layers" in the layers panel menu.
This kind of problem is often indicative of an underlying font issue. You said there are only three fonts, and you should verify that in Type > Find Font... Try replacing, at least temporarily the fonts in use with something else that you know to be reliable from other documents. You might want to do this before the other steps.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 and Indesign CC 2014 crash when printing

Ever since I installed the CC 2014 versions of Indesign and Photoshop, I am absolutely incapable of printing. As soon as the print dialog comes up, the programs crash. (I don't have this issue with Illustrator CC 2014.) It's quite frustrating. Fortunately, I still have "regular' CC on my computer, so I can print Photoshop files from there. Indesign is a little more problematic because they keep changing the file structure, so i've basically abandoned CC 2014 until the printing issue is solved.
    I run Windows 8.1 x64.
Has anyone else encountered this, and if so, how did you fix it (if at all). I can't seem to find any straightforward fixes when I do search, only others with comparable issues. Thanks.

I had the trial version for a month and everything worked fine but now since I've purchased a subscription I am experiencing the same situation with Photoshop CC 2014 and have not been able to find a solution.

  • I am working on a file I created in Indesign CC 2014 and when I try to rearrange pages in the Pages menu or try to package the file, I get the spinning wheel for 20 mins. then it crashes. What should I do?

Can anyone help? I started a 24 page document in Indesign CC 2014 and have been using the file off of a dropbox acct on my two machines (desktop and macbook pro). I need to rearrange some of the pages but when I try to drag and drop the pages in the Pages menu, I get the ominous spinning wheel...for about 20 mins at times. then It will just crash. The document doesn't have a tone of images. I've also tried to collect and package the file but get the same thing.
    What should I do?? Help!

try the script at Adobe Community: InDesign 6 is crashing when attempting to open a particular document. All others are opening OK.
I'd also try moving the pages to a new file, though I suspect that will crash too. Divide and conquer might work -- tray one of your operations on half the document at a time, then repeat by dividing any piece that fails, and so on, until you isolate a page, then use the same method to isolate an object (though it's possible you have a corrupt page).

  • InDesign CC crashes when saving as .idml

InDesign CC 9.2 x64  crashes when saving  as .idml. I have triied reinstalling but the problem persists.

Adobe tech support "uncorrupted" the indd file I sent them (a file from
Adobe's Classroom in a Book series) then they saved it as an idml file.
Problem solved -- at least for that file. Thank you. It's still not clear
to me, however, whether this was an isolated incident or something more
systemic. I guess I'll find out the next time I try to save an indd file in
    the idml format.

  • InDesign (CC 2014) crashing every time I try to run a spell check

InDesign (CC 2014) crashing every time I try to run a spell check, I was wondering if anybody has had this before.  I'm am also experiencing a delayed response, specially when I try to type, I get the colour wheel for about 5 to 8 seconds every time I click on a text box. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Where are you saving?
What exactly is in the file?
What exactly is in the pattern?
Are you svng a library or an Illustrator file?

  • How do I get inDesign to quit crashing when I try to open a damaged document?

Alright, I'm in a bit of a pinch and behind on deadline because of something completely random and out of the blue happening with inDesign. Here's what happened:
I was working on a magazine layout and printed out a PDF draft. The draft looked normal. I saved, shut my computer, walked away, and came back 30 minutes later to find that 9 pages had gone almost completely blank - even the locked layers were gone. I checked the layers and they were still locked. I thought my content had gotten erased somehow. Then I looked again and saw an overseer text symbol in the middle of one of the spreads. I clicked it and was able to enlarge it somewhat. Doing this gave me the spinning color wheel of doom (I have a Mac running off of Maverick now), and every little zoom and mouse movement gave this result that lasted about 3 minutes at a time. I tried saving again (got the spinning color wheel of doom), then shut down inDesign, and tried again. Same thing happened, only this time I got an automatic recovery notice when it opened. Everything else looked normal. I noticed that the content that had been squished was actually also at a skewed angle as well, like it had been rotated at some strange 3D plane. The story board would also expand to 10 times the normal size every time I tried to move the skewed, overset content. I shut everything down again and restarted my computer. Only this time, whenever I tried to open the problematic document, it would give me the auto recovery request, then promptly crash when I clicked "Yes" for auto recover. I tried multiple times now to open the document, thinking maybe I could just wipe those pages and start over again, but it crashes every time.
Nothing like this has ever happened to me before. I have no idea how this happened, and now it seems like I'm going to loose the entire document, about 40 hours of work. As far as I know, nobody else was near my computer in the 30 minutes it took me to shut it and open it back up again.
    Help!
Can anybody shed some light onto this situation? Honestly, I'd be happy to just be able to open the document again so I can erase those problem pages and re-do them... I took screen shots of what inDesign was doing before it crashed:
Here you can see that the "P" in the upper left is all twisted, the same way my content is:
This is a zoomed-out image of how big the storyboard would become when I tried to tweak that overset text/ content...

You can try opening the file "as a copy" from the open dialog. You can also try the blind export to .idml: Adobe Community: InDesign 6 is crashing when attempting to open a particular document. All others are opening OK.
and there's a tool for Windows you can try, if you have access to a windows machine: INDDRecovery — a program for restoring corrupted InDesign documents
After that, it's a question of how much money you want to throw at it. Markzware.com has a paid recovery service that will probably work.

  • Adobe bridge crashes when saving illustrator files

    Hi there,
We are developing custom connector using Adobe Drive SDK for our DAM system, the integration with CS was working fine, we recently updated Adobe Drive to 4.2, and we are encountering bridge crashes when saving illustrator file. It didn't happen with older version(4.0.2) of Adobe Drive, not sure why. I pin point the part that causing the issue: in our custom connector, we have READ_XMP_METADATA capability which we need to display the thumbnails and previews, and in the ftp sample connector, this capablity is not included originally, so the issue does not happen, but if I add this capabilty, the crash issue happens as well. If we exclude this capablity from our connector, this crash issue doesn't happen.
We noticed this only happens when saving illustrator file, not photoshop or indesign, and it seems that only in illustrator, when save, and the bridge has the current file folder showing, we are seeing there are twice folder refreshes, and usually it will crash after the second time. In photoshop and indesign, we don't see folder refreshes. If switch to other folder, the crash won't happen. We tested on both windows and Mac, on Mac, this seems happen less often. Another thing we noticed is in debug mode, or we have many debug logging turned on, the crash happens less often, if it is deployed with no debug logging, the crash happens almost everytime. So we are guessing it might be some synchronization problem.
Could you please advice what's the cause of this issue?
    Thanks,
    Katherine

    Has it ever worked?
What kind of files are they and where do you save them?
Is a printer connected, set up and turned ON?
Have you already tried resetting the preferences?
Generally it's not a good idea to just save old files, because then some artwork may be automatically flattened. Illustrator will save the file to the old version file-format and if you used new features in-between, those cannot stay live in the old version file format.
