InDesign CC 2014 crashing and... why thousands of unique links?

I have issues with my version of InDesign. After working with larger files for a while, Indesign starts lagging and behaving strange and then craches. It can take 10 minutes, 40 minutes, 5 minutes - it dosen't really matter, it suddenly happens. Can this have something to do with Indesign having to deal with thousands of unique links? When I hover over the "link info" area, I typically get this message: 121 total links, 0 missing, 0 modified, 0 embedded, 3072 unique, 0 sublinks. What's with the "3072 unique" links? Are these actual links that InDesign handles all the time? Anybody else having the same problems? Any fixes?

It's the index markers in the older docs that I am using that's causing the crashing. I know that, and am already fixing. It's not that indesign crashing that's the reason for the post, it's the losing my presets and preferences and reopening to a dark interface screen that's my problem. It's just frustrating. I go to a lot of effort to get things the way I like them, which is why I want to the issue fixed.
What I need is a solution to the preference reset problem.
I have blurb book creator installed, but I'm positive this issue predates that. I believe I've had the problem since my last update, it's just now It's really getting on my nerves.

    It's quite likely that there is a problem with the User space on your computer. Please tell us whether you're working a Mac or Windows computer.
    Try creating a new user on your computer and launch InDesign from that user. On a Mac, that would be done in the Users & Groups System Preference.

    What is your OS version? Mac only is not enough information.
    Did you install it on THIS computer on the first place via migration or via Adobe’s installer?
    When you said, you deleted InDesign? Did you uninstall it via Adobe's uninstaller or did you move it to the trash?
    I see, that 6 updates are waiting to be installed. Would the problem be solved if you update your programs?

    It has been well over a month and this issue persists. There's no specific file that makes it happen. There's no particular software that conflicts, as it crashes when ID is the only thing running. Again, my job is at stake right now. Can someone please help me with why I can't keep ID CC 2014 open?   • Indesign CC 2014 crashes when printing to Fiery server

    This is to remind Adobe that issues printing to Fiery print servers from Indesign CC 2014 (10.0 or 10.1) on Mac have not been resolved.
    A patch has been provided here: InDesign & Illustrator | Crash while printing to Fiery RIP | MacOS   --- however, the problem persists after patching. I should note that the fix at that link only pertains to Indesign 10.0. If you download Indesign 2014 from Creative Cloud you would, at this time, receive 10.1. That script will break 10.1 completely. There is no fix for 10.1.

    I am bumping this topic to keep the conversation fresh. If anyone else has found solutions to printing to Fiery from Indesign 10.x either by updating Fiery directly or with additional scripts or workarounds, please share them here.
    I could publish one of my 10.1 crash logs if I could be advised which pieces are most important, or how to post the unabridged without spamming the forum.
    That's the constructive bit. Here's my rant...
    After speaking to Adobe on the phone, they tell me this isn't resolved yet because it affects only a small subset of people. I called some peers at other agencies across my region and learned they all use Indesign with Fiery servers. We are not an isolated few! (those fortunate individuals I spoke to are still using CS6 -- and I received some jovial ribbing for having my on-going CC subscription.) I have a lot of printing to do on the Fiery now that these projects are finishing, but i'm held up while down-saving these projects to be used in CC (9.x). Its frustrating, its time-consuming, and its simply unacceptable to CC subscribers as we move in to 2015. I urge Adobe to work with EFI to solve this problem once and for all.

  • New Adobe InDesign CC (2014) crashes continuously after installation, shows spinning wheel. Have re-installed 3 times now, same thing.

    We had to install the new InDesign CC (2014). InDesign CC (2014) crashes continuously. We have un-installed the app twice and re-installed again.
    We have tried to install the previous version of InDesign CC but that is no longer (conveniently for you, nightmare for us) available.
    Everytime we launch the new InDesign CC (2014) to actually do some work, this crashes. It has cost us 4 hours work since this morning!
    This seems to be an issue a lot of people are having.
    An update for any app should happen without any glitsches, otherwise your product is not fit for purpose.
    We are all paying monthly fees to Adobe to be able to do our day-to-day work.
    For that we expect to be able to use these tools without loosing time and money every time you are updating software.

    We were not able to get any crash reports - that option not available; the spinning wheel was coming on and off, but nothing would happen and nothing could be done, but re-start machines.
    Have cleared prefs files since, this a few times. Based on suggestions found from others having the same problems.
    After clearing prefs files, worked awhile , then the same happened.

    Start by telling us what kind of computer and operating system you're running. Are you having any other problems in InDesign CC 2014? Have you try restoring your preferences?

    Operating System - Windows or Mac?
    Version of CS6 - are you fully patched to the latest version (Help>Updates)?
    Do you use any 3rd Party Plugins (Help>Manage Extensions and look for 3rd Party Plugins)
    At what point does it crash? How are you exorting/printing?
    What file type or action are you doing when it's crashing?

    I take it you want to download InDesign CC 9.2 (the version before InDesign CC 2014). You can do so from the Creative Cloud desktop app. Below the list of apps you've installed, there is a menu that lists previous versions:

    yup, I already recompiled my Plugin with new SDK and also ported the HTML extension to the newer version.
    I used Inxerrorlogin sample plugin to log the error for the Crash and found the belo reason.

    Looks like Adobe has change the property names or moved it under some other parent, I am still trying to find out the documentation for this

  • InDesign CC 2014 crashes on startup

    I am encountering an odd error every time I try and start inDesign CC 2014.
    It starts loading and then an APPCRASH error occurs. The log suggests the problem lies with PlugPlugOwl.dll
    If I uninstall inDesign and remove the preferences and then reinstall I can run the program but if I quit at all or inDesign crashes, the next time I try to load it it will crash upon startup with the same error.
    As you can imagine this is incredibly frustrating. As far as I know I am not using any plugins from a previous version of Adobe CS.
    Every other CC 2014 program appears to run without any problems.
    Can anyone shed any light on this?

    Are you using any third party plugins at all? Font Manager? Does it happen if you start up in Safe Mode, or if you log on with a different user account?
