What printer? Is it local or network? Can you print if you export to PDF and print from Acrobat?

  • Since installing Lion Adobe InDesign CS3 crashes when I print.

I upgraded to Lion yesterday and, now that I am at work, I find that InDesign CS3 (5.0.4) crashes when I print. It doesn't hang...it just pops. My printer drivers (for our Xerox WC7775, with Fiery) no longer work for my other applications (Word, BBEdit). To get CS3 to work I installed Java Runtime through the automatic installer.
Upgrading to CS5.5 is not possible, as our whole office is on CS3.
Is there anything I can do?

Well, I strongly feel it is an Apple issue. Granted I should have done more research before I upgraded, but I (naively) thought that Lionwould be another instance of Apple improving their product, and enhancing its capabilities. In this I was wrong. But then why produce an OS that's incompatible with a large block of your user base?
    (1) OS-makers set the rules, and it is incumbent on them tobehave in a gentlewomanly/manly fashion. It seems inconceivable that it's in Apple's best interests to prevent Adobe products from working. Yet that seems to be the case here. It's like Bloom returning home in Joyce's Ulysses: it's dark and all the furniture has been moved.
And fellow-software makers should help each other out: when there's a flood in anoffice building (as there is here) everyone drops what they're doing to pitchin.
Maybe this was all a product of a *******-match between Adobe and Apple(recall the PDF support issues on the iPad), but from a users' perspective this is irrelevant. It's the argument that was made in the Financial Times recently about the fall of Netflix: Customers don't give a fig what your internal business priorities are, they want the products that they bought from you to work and be priced well.
    (2) The very kludgy work-arounds to this issue, involving deleting or hiding PPDs in the system library (specifically inOS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/), suggest that what is causing the InDesign CS3.x to crash is minor in nature. I.e. a patch could easily bewritten.
    (3) Adobe CS3.x applications are the first generation of "Universal" apps. Okay, maybe their implementation was not ideal (as this shows) but they were written to the rules at Apple laid out for them, rules that are still in place now. As with my first point (1) it's unfair to change the rules on Adobe after the fact.
    (4) Who could expect that the step from 10.6.x 10.7.1 (the.1 presumably meaning that some initial kinks had been worked out) would be so traumatic? We are not talking here about a step from Classic or PPC. (I remember these, but because they were structural changes everyone, at some level, was prepared for the change.) This is not about getting Rosetta to work on 10.7.
    (5) We are not talking about a minor set of applications here either. Considering the long-standing use of Macs by the design community, in print, production, and photo, the support of Adobe apps should have been aconsideration for Apple. But when you look at the list of issues with this upgrade (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/905/cpsid_90508.html) it's hair-raisingly long. And note these are CS5.5 apps: the very newest software you can get from Adobe. If part of your argument is that it's incumbent on people to keep their software up-to-date, then here's a set of OS issues that are affecting users of software that was released just this spring.
    (6) Even if Adobe CS5.5 was fully supported (see (5)), it's unreasonable to expect everyone to upgrade all of their software packages each time the OS is upgraded (as opposed to completely revised: again, as in (4)10.6.x was not Classic). All of my personal software is up-to date, but I cannot say the same of my clients and my employer: they hold to older computers and software packs as long as they can because the software was so expensive.CS5.5 Design Premium is $1900. For any organization this is a big chunk of cash to doll out regularly. My employer is a non-profit: should they replace their software because I have upgraded my laptop? Or should I stop upgrading my software because they can't afford to get CS5.5 (even if it was properly supported)?
And, what if we buy a new Mac? Presumably this will come with Lion. It's clear with this that this is no longer a $4000 proposition, but a $10,000 proposition, since all the other copies of CS3.x would have to be upgraded.

  • InDesign CS6 crashes everytime I try to export to PDF

This happens now regardless of what type of file I have open. Even if I create a new document add just a rectangle coloured box, when I go to export it crashes everytime. This is a nightmare as I have a tight dealine!!! Everyone I speak to recently is having problem with InDesign...

The crashing thread is here is Thread 25 (you have to go way down), and it appears to be related to a 3rd party plugin called "MagPlus". I don't know anything about MagPlus, but my first step would be to disable it, either by moving it out of the plugins folder by hand, or with Extension Manager:

It looks like it might have something to do with Preferences, so I would also try trashing your preferences. See FAQ: How do I reset or "trash" preferences?.

  • Indesign cs5 Crashes everytime i try to create a new document

i'm on a mac, running OSX10.7.  No new software has been added since i loaded the CS Suite on my machine. in the last two weeks, Indesign has begun crashing everytime i try to make a new document. it will open older documents created in cs5 and earlier versions. when i try to create a new doc of any kind, the program quits... i usually fill out a report and send it, though i've gotten tired of doing this.  cs 3 still works, so i can create docs in that program for now, but that seems to be a bit of a ridiculous workaround.
Anyone have any ideas? i've tried the 'SING' fix.. to no avail... I use these apps for work, so i don't have the luxury of lots of time to mess around with this....
thanks for any help you can give me...

Please post a crash report on PasteBin.com and put a link to it here.

  • CC Indesign 6 crashes when I print. Using OS 10.9.4

Every time I try to print using CC Indesign it sends the file to the printer then crashes. I am on OS 10.9.4.
I can create pdfs without any problems but it I try to print directly from the InDesign file it crashes. I did not have this problem before upgrading. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Not to be glib, I don’t think I’ve ever printed anything directly from InDesign.
Export a PDF and print that.

  • How do I fix problem causing Indesign to crash everytime I open it?

I have had InDesign CC 2014 installed on windows 8 computer for month but recently I cannot open it as evertytime it crashed saying 'windows has encountered a problem causing InDesign to stop working' I have tried everything I can think of...please help! (I have it through creative cloud and my other programmes are fine so I don't understand why it is just InDesign?)

What happened the last time it did work? Was there a crash? You might have bad recovery data that is causing it to crash again on restart.
See Replace Your Preferences  for directions to the HIDDEN folders where your prefs are stored. The recovery folder is in the same location as the InDesign SavedData file. Empty it and try again.

  • InDesign CS6 Crashing When Dynamic Printing Mac OS X 10.6.8

This started happening a few days ago sporadically and is now happening on every document.  The user goes to dynamic print, everything looks good and then right before it finished InDesign closes and an error report pops up.  I have tried restarting the machine and am currently in the process of confirming all Mac and Adobe updates are installed.  I have thought about removing and reinstalling InDesign, but was hoping to find an answer here before taking those steps.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just finished the updates and had the user test again.  Looks like the updates resolved the issues.  Thank you for your reply though!

  • Indesign CC crashes at launch

Indesign CC crashes everytime i launch it. I have updated Indesign to 9.1 but the problem still exist. Adobe told me it must be a problem with the fonts, because also Illustrator CC crashes. And Adobe said that non-Adobe fonts are the problem. But after i deactivated all my fonts om my mac, the problem still exist. And i cant open the files i have made in Indesign CC because they are not compatible with Indesign CS6. I pay 60 euro per month, but nothing is working.  Is it time to return to Quark?

Read the link in my post #5. It will tell you where the tow folders are located in theuser libraries (these ar HIDDEN by default, so if you down't know how to see hidden files, read Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion)
You should rename the Adobe folders in the original account to _adobe, or soomething similar, BEFORE you copy the new ones to be sure you actually replace them, not just the files inside them.

  • Pages Crashes Everytime I try to Print

Sorry, I have all kinds of problems, don't I?
My macbook (which is posessed, I swear) consistently crashes everytime I try to print the document I need for tomorrow on Pages. Any other Pages document will print just fine, but this one document always results with the same message after I try to print:
The application Pages quit unexpectedly after it was reopened. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected. Click Try Again to temporarily restore the applicaton's default settings and open it again. Click report to see more details or send a report to apple.
I've tried copying and pasting it into blank documents. I've tried copying a single page from it into a blank document and it still crashes. I've tried resetting the computer. I've tried repairing disk permissions. Can anyone please help? This paper is due tomorrow!!!
    Thanks,
    --Jenny

    Hi Jenny
Firstly, back your document up - pronto!
Do you use footnotes/endnotes in your document?
If so, it may be that you have a reference in the main text area but a blank footnote/endnote to go with it. There is a bug in Pages that causes it to crash when printing documents that have them.
One other thing you can try is to print the document from another user account on the same machine.
Also, try exporting to a pdf and ask a friend to print it on another computer - the footnote bug will cause this to crash too.
Good luck on meeting your deadline!

  • Indesign CS3 crashes when I try to print in Lion

I installed Lion this morning and I'm unable to print from InDesign and Illustrator CS3. Both applications crash before the print dialogue opens. I really need to solve this problem. Everything I do as a designer goes through  InDesign.

Most of our customers use CS3...Adobe stopped supporting CS3 when they released CS5. CS3 worked fine on my non i7 iMac, when I migrated to the i7 iMac it stopped working. Called Adobe and over 2-3 weeks time they told me it wouldn't work! Re-installed from original cd works fine. Thanks for posting this tho, now I know to not upgrade to OS X 10.7!

  • InDesign CS3 crashes when printing in OSX Lion

I installed OSX Lion today and when I try to print from InDesign or Illustrator CS3 applications crash before the print dialogue window appears. Everything I do as a designer goes through InDesign so I really need to solve this problem!

Andy, I suspect you did not do it correctly, it should decode to something, even if it is nonsensical.
Meanwhile, jobbydesign's crash reports are a bit more intelligable, since they have symbols:
They're both in basically the same place:
Thread 0 Crashed:: Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
    0   com.apple.CoreFoundation           0x95660a69 CFURLCreateStringWithFileSystemPath + 265
    1   com.apple.CoreFoundation           0x9566094d CFURLCopyFileSystemPath + 45

    3   AdobeAGM                           0x00476218 0x146000 + 3342872

    7   com.adobe.InDesign.Print           0x15cd0567 GetPlugIn + 455687
That is, the crash is in CFURLCreateStringWithFileSystemPath(). That's vaguely encouraging, I guess.
See the Apple CFUrl reference. Of course, it doesn't tell you why it is crashing. Well, and I guess the problem is in CFUrlCopyFileSystemPath(), which has fewer arguments, just a CFURL object and a style. Of course, this probably means that the AGM library is passing it an invalid CFURL.
I don't know why that would be...I guess you might be better off posting at https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/mac_os_x_v10.7_lion.
    I'm really not sure.
    Sorry guys.

  • Indesign CS4 Crashes When Printing to PDF

    Hi all,
I've been having an issue lately with InDesign CS4 crashing every time I print to PDF. I've never had the issue before, but now it seems to happen constantly. I am running Windows 7, and when I print to PDF, my dialog box gets to "DOWNLOADING PROCSET" and then it just freezes and goes unresponsive. If I end InDesign through Task Manager, and reopen to try and print again, the same issue happens. If I completely restart my computer, reopen InDesign, and then print, it will work fine, for a while. This is happening with multiple documents. I am trying to avoid reinstalling, but may have to try that next.
When InDesign gets in its freezing spree, I've quit and reopened InDesign, then printed to a Postcript and Distilled with no issues, but the PDF printing still does not work.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
New to this forum, but I too have had a problem with printing a PDF from InDesing. what I have found is when my dialog box gets to "DOWNLOADING PROCSET" and it just freezes, whats actually happening is the 'SAVE AS' dialogue box has appeared, but is not the active window. When I ALT+TAB through my open applications, in Windows 7 it changes your screen to 'preview' the programs you flick through, and I find it there, attached to outlook, or the internet. Upon further investigation, it appears to attach itself to which ever program I click, after the initial "DOWNLOADING PROCSET" freezing.
So now when I PDF from InDesign and it freezes at this point, I click the Desktop icon (in windows 7 its the rectangle in the bottom right corner) and it seems to 'place' the 'SAVE AS' dialogue box here, where I can actually select it and click SAVE.
    Hope this helps?
    Mike

  • Adobe Indesign CS4 Crashing When Printing To HP OfficeJet Pro 8500

Adobe Indesign in crashing when I select print. The only printer I have is the OfficeJet Pro 8500 (A909g) I am running the latest version of OS. (OS 10.10.1) I have uninstalled Indesign and reinstalled it from my disc. There is no update to the version I loaded. (There are newer versions of Indesign and Creative Suite) I reset the printers in system preferences. I have checked Software Update to make sure I have the latest driver. I am running  Indesign on my other computer using OS 10.10.1 so I doubt that is an issue. Other Adobe software prints fine. All other programs that I have print fine as far as I can tell. I have run diagnostic software without success.

    Hi,
Adobe might be a better resource to check a such, as any other application work as expected as you mention.
by checking its system requirements, it seems as CS4 is incompatible with Yosemite and that may explain a such:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/system-requirements.html#main_InDesign_CS4_system_requirements
As I can see only InDesign CC (2014) is compatible with Yosemite.
I would suggest trying InDesign's support communities below, there are more expertize users for a such:

  • Photoshop CS6 update crashes everytime I go to print. Any ideas?? Help!!!

With the lastest update to Photoshop CS6 it crashes everytime I go to print. Any ideas?? Help!!!

Have you installed all the updates for Photoshop?
And what does the crash report say?
Most of these issues turn out to be bugs in the printer driver software, but some are curable by resetting Photoshop preferences (which also resets the "last used" printer info).
