InDesign CC crashes when placing text

Hi, InDesign CC updated to latest version and noticed it crashes every time i try and place a text file onto the document. I have uninstalled and then used CC Cleaner, removing preferences and manually deleting the folder. Have tried this several times but with no success.
Here is a copy of the crash log: http://pastebin.com/icXisbfD
InDesign CC (9.1)
iMac 10.8.5
Thanks

Does this happen in one file, or in all files? If only one file, it could be corrupted. Export as IDML and reopen in InDesign.

  • InDesign CC crashes when selecting text

    Hello folks!
I have a serious issue here on my Windows 7 64bit notebook:
InDesign CC (and also CS6 before) keep crashing when selecting text.
I was still on CS6 when this failure appeared first. The strange thing is, it happens not always. When InDesign is opened new it will not crash instantly (most times). After some selecting random text a few times InDesign will crash with the well known "InDesign doesn't work anymore" message. There seems no pattern while selecting text (like special characters, certain fonts, whatever).
Tried to use CC – no luck! still crashing.
After some research in the forum I read, that this is very rare issue only occuring if there are more than 1 Windows accounts with both InDesign running. Indeed I made new account shortly before the first time this happened.
But sadly even after I completely wiped the second account, all my InDesigns (CS5, CS6, CC), all prefs, and also all fonts (as recommend in a thread with people havong trouble with just the type-tool itself) and all registry thingies the problem remains. Why?
Please help, it really kills the productivity.
    Thanks in advance for everything!

Well, wonky extension seems like a good idea, but can be withdrawed because I haven't installed one.
The font issue is also equally probable. As already mentioned: The interesting aspect here is, that both InDesign CS6 and CC will crash. It happened the first time when Windows decided to blue screen and f*** up my account (I wasn't able to log in anymore, I had to made a new one). I once read in another thread that there is a problem occuring when having multiple Windows accounts with InDesign running. Re-installing InDesign didn't help. Font problem after all?
I have installed at the moment:
    MainType
    NexusFont
    Typograf
and some small others, like: dp4 Font Viewer or FontViewOk

  • InDesign crashes when placing text

    Hello.
InDesign crashes when I try to place text from a .txt-file or an Open Office document. I'm using Creative Cloud trial version and Windows 8.1. Crash log states the fault to TEXT.RPLN
    Thanks in advance.

Does this happen on a all documents, documents already created and also on new documents? If so

  • Indesign CS3 Crashes when loading text styles

hi all, i need some help.
Indesign cs3 keeps crashing when I try to "load all text styles" from one indesign file to another. the file has ten styles (character & paragraph). I'm currently working on windows 7.
thankyou for any information you can provide.

    Are you patched to 5.0.4?
Export both files to inx, re-open, Save As. (I checked, ID will not load styles from an inx)
Load just one style at a time to isolate a conflict.
Last resort, Highlight text from the source doc, paste into the new doc. I should carry in the style. It only needs to be a single charatcher.

  • In Design crashing when placing text

I'm creating a book of essays related to my workplace. I created a table of contents, preface page and placed the initial essay (all from Microsoft Word) with absolutely no problems. When I went to place the second essay on a subsequent page of the document, all of a sudden I received a message from the InDesign program that said, "Adobe InDesign CS5 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program."  I can place images with no problems and can do other things with InDesign but am at a loss at not being able to place a Word doc. I checked with our IT person and they weren't able to help. The project is due at the end of the month so I'm sweating it a little. Any thoughts?  Thanks.

It could also be some settings within your paragraph formatting within Word that causes the text to kick to the next page (overset text) - such as having a long line of text for a hyperlink and having it not hyphenate and/or break.  If a line of paragraph of text isn't allowed to break, it will try to fit in the next frame infinitely.
We work with a lot of files we have these types of issues with and, generally, it's related to a hyperlink or table that's setup too wide to fit on the page with the margins as they're setup or the hypenation setting is off.  You can also trying placing by click-and-dragging wider than the page to help determine where the issue originates within the new text.
Sometimes it's just something you would never notice until this error occurs.

  • InDesign CS3 Crashes When Placing Illustrator CS3 Art

    Hi all-
I've been having some problems over the past week with InDesign CS3. Specifically each and every time I try to place an Illustrator CS3 element, the dialog says it is importing the art. Then the trouble starts - InDesign grinds for about 10 seconds and then I get an error message stating that "InDesign.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close."
When I click on details, I see that the error signature is "AppName: InDesign.exe AppVer: 5.0.3.662 ModName: adobepdfl.dll ModVer 8.1.0.1146 Offset: 001a1fcd"
I've already done the obvious - trashed my prefs files, then deleted the CS3 Suite (Master Collection if that matters) and reinstalled - still have the exact same issue. I even zapped the dll after the reinstall, and then reinstalled again - no luck.
This ONLY happens with native Illustrator art - .pdf, .eps, .PSD, .jpgs, etc can be placed with no issues. Yeah, I can save everything as an .eps, but that will take a lot of time to convert every asset.
I'm on Windows XP, Service Pack 3, running on a Lenovo Thinkpad T61 with 2 Gigs of physical memory. Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T7300 @ 2.00 GHz.
Any ideas? Thanks for any help, here!

  • InDesign CS6 Crashes When Placing Images

    Crash data: http://pastebin.com/CaBML9zw
This problem just started this weekend, but every time I try to place an image into this file, InDesign crashes. I've exported the project to an IDML file, then worked off of it, but it does the same thing. When I try to relaunch InDesign, it often will not open again & gives a "serious error" pop-up (apologies for not having the screenshot on here).
Could someone help me decipher this please? I'm about to throw things.
I'd really appreciate some help with this. Thank you!

Does it happen in other files withthe same image(s)? How about in a new user?

  • InDesign CS4 crashes when placing Word document

    Hi,
I'm having a real problem placing a Word document into InDesign CS4. It crashes every time! I have found that if I disable the "import inline graphics" it successfully places the document. but enabling that option crashes InDesign.
I've tried saving as RTF, and even doing a simple copy-paste but the result is the same: InDesign crashes.
If you have an idea please let me know!
    Thanks,
    Ariel

Yes sir! The Word file that crashes CS4 is placed successfully in CS2. The saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it" comes to mind!
The only disadvantage is that each chapter is a separate file and in CS2 these need to be placed separately, whereas in CS4 (if it worked ;-)) they could all be placed in one go.
    Thanks Jongware,
    Ariel

  • Indesign CSS crashes when placing a Word document

I can place images and other file types fine. but have been unable to place word documents, I save, save as, save as an older version of word. It is just appears to be loading, but becomes 'not responding' and I have to shut it down through task manager. I have been copying and pasting, but this is very unproductive. Please help. Thank you.

    Hello Peter,
Thank you for all your help, I did not know you replied, so perhaps the email went into my spam.  I followed the instructions here: http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/troubleshoot-damaged-indesign-documents.html and did #8. It took a while, but I eventually found the culprit was a pasted image in the document causing trouble.

  • My indesign keeps crashing when I type in a text box

    Hello
My indesign keeps crashing when ever I start typing in a text box (CS5) - I followed a similar discussion and the advice was to uninstall and reinstall - I have uninstalled but cannnot find my Master collection to re-install. I'm working on a Mac Leopard - Please Help

I'm a Widows guy with some Mac experience, so these directions may be a bit fuzzy, and someone else may feel free to pop in. My recollection is that you will need to double-click both of the .dmg files (these are disk image files) to mount them, if they don't mount automatically. You may have to decompress the first file further to get it to extract the installer (which should automatically extract the second file). If you are able to run the installer, and enter your serial number, but the number is not recognized as valid it will be because there is some sort of trap for education serial numbers.
If that's the case, you are probably out of luck on CS5, but you may be eligible to upgrade to a full commercial license for CS6, or a discounted Creative Cloud license. I'm not dead certain, but I believe the old serial number should be sufficient to to provide proof of previous license during the install. If that's the route you need to take, you need to do it quickly. Once CS7 is released, and predictions seem to be in about ten days to two weeks from now, at least for an official launch date announcement, your CS5 will probably no longer be good for an upgrade discount.

  • InDesign cs6 crashes when exporting objects with drop shadows to interactive PDF

I am using the trial version of InDesign CS6 on a mac OSX 10.7.4  I need to export my document as an interactive PDF. I have found that the export works fine so long as none of the objects within my document have a drop shadow. However, if I add a drop shadow to any object (text, images, or video) InDesign will crash when I try to export. I am adding the drop shadow by selecting the object and then choosing Object > Effects > Drop Shadow. Is there another method I should be using to add the shadow if I want to export to an Interactive PDF?

Hi Peter, thanks for the response. Yes, I have tried creating a new blank project and adding one text object with a drop shadow and then exporting to Interactive PDF, and I experienced  the same result. I tried replacing my preferences as you suggested and found that it did not have any affect.
I continued developing my InDesign document without using any drop shadows and began to experience the same type of crashing under two more circumstances. 1. When relinking assets in my Links panel. 2. When exporting to interactive PDF with interactive objects that are being clipped (I get a warning telling me I have clipped objects before I export; when I click export I experience the same crash.) I have tried exporting the same file to a print (non-interactive) PDF and experienced no crashing.
I thought I should mention that I am using a retina display mac book pro with 16GB RAM. Could my graphics cards or the configureation of my machine be causing my issue?
    Thanks so much,

    Hi,
Indesign CS5 crashes when deleting an index.
    Thanks for your help.

    allesistständigimwandel wrote:
the only successful importing the idml-file was in cs4, but there was the problem with the change of layout.
Sounds like the .idml was created in CS5 an opened in CS4. Is that correct? You'd lose unsupported CS5 features and that might result in some layout changes, but I wouldn't expect formatting changes, which you implied originally.
There are quite a few reports now of problems converting legacy files to CS5. I've not had any in my own work, but I haven't tried to update a lot of stuff. I wouldn't for example, switch versions near the end of a project, but would finish up in the original version to avoid any potential issues. Exporting from CS4 to either.inx or .idml and opening that in CS5 may give better results than opeing the CS4 .indd directly.
Since you've already done the conversion, and considerable editing, I'm not sure what to tell you. You could try exporting the text to InDesign Tagged Text, then place that into a new file. Copy/Paste in Place any graphic content.

I had a designer who emailed me last week stating she was having problems with Indesign CS5 crashing when she exported her text layer to Incopy. • InDesign CS6 crashes when I try to copy a graphic

I am working in CS6 with a document that was converted from CS4. I want to move a graphic from one spot in the document to another, but when I try to copy it, InDesign immediately crashes. Has anyone else had this problem?
I am working on a PC, and I believe the original file was created on a Mac.

It turns out the culprit was a bad font in the image. I opened the image in Illustrator and converted the font to outlines. That solved the problem! Incidentally, this one image/font problem (this image is used in a couple different manuals) also was causing InDesign to crash when I exported to PDF.
Adobe people, if you read this, it would be great if problematic fonts in images were detected by InDesign, like an error in the preflight panel similar to the linking and font errors currently there. I can't see a way to detect this easily now (how to narrow down which image is a problem when working with 50+ images in a document?) Is there a way that I don't know about?
