InDesign CC crashes when saving as .idml

InDesign CC 9.2 x64  crashes when saving  as .idml. I have triied reinstalling but the problem persists.

Adobe tech support "uncorrupted" the indd file I sent them (a file from
Adobe's Classroom in a Book series) then they saved it as an idml file.
Problem solved -- at least for that file. Thank you. It's still not clear
to me, however, whether this was an isolated incident or something more
systemic. I guess I'll find out the next time I try to save an indd file in
the idml format.

  • InDesign CS6 crashes when saving as .idml

My printer cannot open the .indd-file i provided, their fully updated CS6 crashes if they try.
They asked me to provide them with file saved as a .idml-file, but when I save the file as idml, the program crashes on my side.
The report (http://pastebin.com/qjQ2RPZd) says "Thread 22 Crashed" and speaks of "com.adobe.InDesign.INXCore" wich means nothing to me.
The file exports to pdf just fine and packages without problems. Is there anything I can do?
Google tells me nothing and my printer is stumped.

It looks to me like it might be text related. I'd check for a bad font (Troubleshoot fonts | Mac OS X) and if that isn't it, try a divide and conquer search to see if you can isolate a page with a problem. to do that, try to export the file as two halves, then divide any half that fails into halves again and repeat until you are down to one page, then do the same thing removing half the objects on the page at one time.

  • Photoshop & InDesign CS3 Crashing when Saving to Network

    Hi,
Photoshop & InDesign CS3 crashes whenever I try to save a file over the network to a shared computer we are using as a server.
    SPECIFICS
    I'm running Leopard 10.5.2
    - I have tried reinstalling the entire Creative Suite
    - I did not reinstall Version Cue
    - Tried deleting the com.adobe.mediabrowser.p.ist and Photoshop.plist preferences.
    ALSO:
    - If I create a new file on my computer and then immediately save it, it usually does not crash on the first save. But after I do a few things to the file and then try to save again, it hangs up.
-I am unable to force quit Photoshop; I have to do a hard reboot.
Adobe tech support believes it is a network problem. If so, what needs to be done to fix the network?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I've heard rumors of the "don't work from the server" thing from our IT department a few times but now I'm seeing it for myself. They are now using this thread as the reason our machines are experiencing so many crashes and errors again. Basically chalking it up to us working off the network is the culprit since they can't find anything else wrong. and since it's not supported by Adobe then were doing it wrong. But none of the workflow solutions we've looked seem faster than just saving to a network. So I'm a bit at a loss...
How are people dealing with the time it takes to copy files from the server to local and back again. How are people integrating this into workflow's where multiple people need to see and work in the same document multiple times a day?
A large part of our workload is sometimes thousand page catalogs, mostly our files are 15-25 meg InDesign files and might get up around 50 megs or so and be linked to as much as 5 gigs of image data in the extreme. I can't imagine how much time that would take to copy and work and then copy back, then if someone else were to copy and work and copy back, etc... It's almost like we'd have to copy each section to one computer and make everyone play musical chairs to come and work on the file when they needed too so we only had to copy it from the server once!
I've done a few catalog covers where the working files sometimes got up over 4 gigs, (and yes with something like this I was working local), but there were days where saving my work back to the server was like 45 minutes, a few times I had issues with the save and I'd be there screwing around for an hour and a half to make sure my work was backed up on the server. I can't imagine having to go through that every time I needed to work on a large Indesgn file that had 4-5 gigs of linked images.
Does everybody really work this way...? Or is there a magic network setup that allows a sane server side workflow? I know my IT people are compotent profesionals, but perhaps they just haven't heard the latest and greatest for Network CS Suite set up???
Personally, every time we get new boxes on our desks everything runs great for 6-8? months and then slowly but surely things get buggy and the next thing you know there's smoke coming out of your Dell. They say they fixed it and replaced the damage but the errors continue...
Anyway, I'm really shocked that working over the server is a no no. Unless you had a very small work group I think this must be a nightmare!!!

  • Mac, Indesign CS5 crashes when saving to an AFP share.

    Hey all,
I know that it isn't best practices to save to a share, but my users do it. We have never had that problem with CS3 or CS4.. as a matter of fact, not even all of my users have this problem.
I have one designer that crashes whenever saving to an AFP share on OS 10.5 server. It just kills InDesign. Spinning beach ball of death shows up and then claims that the network resource can't be found.. then poof.. bye bye indesign. I told her to copy the files locally, work on them, save them, then copy back to the server. But after 5 years of working off the share drive she still forgets. We are running production and she is begging me for an answer.
    Thanks.

I will double check her version when I get to work tomorrow. My Mac users are really good about staying up on patches.
I will let you know if I need further assistance.. thanks!

  • InDesign CS5 crashes when saving new empty document.

It also crashes when printing, saving, resaving or exporting existing files. Many are converted files from Quark Xpress using Q2ID. Never had any problems until the past few weeks. Help!
I have renamed preference files and uninstalled and reinstalled five times. Still does it.

Best practice is to always export converted files to .idml immediately after the conversion, then open that and save as a new .indd. See Remove minor corruption by exporting

  • Indesign CC with Typekit crashes when saving to IDML. Is there a workaround?

I turned on Creative Cloud and synched fonts using Typekit. All was good until I had to save to an IDML file. Indesign crashes each time I try, about half way through the process. Things I've done to fix:
    1. Quit Creative Cloud app and restarted Indesign.  No luck.
    2. Uninstalled Indesign then re installed. No Luck.
There appears to be an incompatibility with Typekit and IDML.  Even when typekit is turned off with no syncing.
    Any thoughts?

I've not experienced that issue with Typekit fonts and IDML. Typekit fonts are really nothing different except that they are licensed not to be able to be packaged. They are just regular OpenType fonts.
I'd start by restoring your InDesign preferences first just to see if that fixes the problem. Here's how:

  • InDesign CS6 crashes when exporting to IDML (OSX 10.8)

I have a MacBook Pro Retina with OS X 10.8 and InDesign CS6.
As soon as I try to save as InDesign CS4 or export to IDML InDesign crashes.
    What to do?

Okay, that may be it. I also opened your idml file and it gave me a prompt: "This command would create a large number of page items and would severely degrade performance. Data will be placed as embedded EPS."
That's a typical message when trying to paste complex vector paths. And yes, that can wreak havok if you have too many pasted vctors or comlex native ones (I had a file a year or so a go that had about 60 pages of pasted illustrations from another user -- took two hours to open and two hours to export).
If you are pasting from Illustrator, don't. Place the illustrations.

  • Adobe bridge crashes when saving illustrator files

    Hi there,
We are developing custom connector using Adobe Drive SDK for our DAM system, the integration with CS was working fine, we recently updated Adobe Drive to 4.2, and we are encountering bridge crashes when saving illustrator file. It didn't happen with older version(4.0.2) of Adobe Drive, not sure why. I pin point the part that causing the issue: in our custom connector, we have READ_XMP_METADATA capability which we need to display the thumbnails and previews, and in the ftp sample connector, this capablity is not included originally, so the issue does not happen, but if I add this capabilty, the crash issue happens as well. If we exclude this capablity from our connector, this crash issue doesn't happen.
We noticed this only happens when saving illustrator file, not photoshop or indesign, and it seems that only in illustrator, when save, and the bridge has the current file folder showing, we are seeing there are twice folder refreshes, and usually it will crash after the second time. In photoshop and indesign, we don't see folder refreshes. If switch to other folder, the crash won't happen. We tested on both windows and Mac, on Mac, this seems happen less often. Another thing we noticed is in debug mode, or we have many debug logging turned on, the crash happens less often, if it is deployed with no debug logging, the crash happens almost everytime. So we are guessing it might be some synchronization problem.
Could you please advice what's the cause of this issue?
    Thanks,
    Katherine

    Has it ever worked?
What kind of files are they and where do you save them?
Is a printer connected, set up and turned ON?
Have you already tried resetting the preferences?
Generally it's not a good idea to just save old files, because then some artwork may be automatically flattened. Illustrator will save the file to the old version file-format and if you used new features in-between, those cannot stay live in the old version file format.

  • Indesign CS5 crashes when deleting an index

    Hi,
Indesign CS5 crashes when deleting an index.
    Thanks for your help.

the only successful importing the idml-file was in cs4, but there was the problem with the change of layout.
Sounds like the .idml was created in CS5 an opened in CS4. Is that correct? You'd lose unsupported CS5 features and that might result in some layout changes, but I wouldn't expect formatting changes, which you implied originally.
There are quite a few reports now of problems converting legacy files to CS5. I've not had any in my own work, but I haven't tried to update a lot of stuff. I wouldn't for example, switch versions near the end of a project, but would finish up in the original version to avoid any potential issues. Exporting from CS4 to either.inx or .idml and opening that in CS5 may give better results than opeing the CS4 .indd directly.
Since you've already done the conversion, and considerable editing, I'm not sure what to tell you. You could try exporting the text to InDesign Tagged Text, then place that into a new file. Copy/Paste in Place any graphic content.

  • InDesign cs6 crashes when exporting objects with drop shadows to interactive PDF

I am using the trial version of InDesign CS6 on a mac OSX 10.7.4  I need to export my document as an interactive PDF. I have found that the export works fine so long as none of the objects within my document have a drop shadow. However, if I add a drop shadow to any object (text, images, or video) InDesign will crash when I try to export. I am adding the drop shadow by selecting the object and then choosing Object > Effects > Drop Shadow. Is there another method I should be using to add the shadow if I want to export to an Interactive PDF?

Hi Peter, thanks for the response. Yes, I have tried creating a new blank project and adding one text object with a drop shadow and then exporting to Interactive PDF, and I experienced  the same result. I tried replacing my preferences as you suggested and found that it did not have any affect.
I continued developing my InDesign document without using any drop shadows and began to experience the same type of crashing under two more circumstances. 1. When relinking assets in my Links panel. 2. When exporting to interactive PDF with interactive objects that are being clipped (I get a warning telling me I have clipped objects before I export; when I click export I experience the same crash.) I have tried exporting the same file to a print (non-interactive) PDF and experienced no crashing.
I thought I should mention that I am using a retina display mac book pro with 16GB RAM. Could my graphics cards or the configureation of my machine be causing my issue?
    Thanks so much,

  • InDesign CS6 crashes when I try to copy a graphic

I am working in CS6 with a document that was converted from CS4. I want to move a graphic from one spot in the document to another, but when I try to copy it, InDesign immediately crashes. Has anyone else had this problem?
I am working on a PC, and I believe the original file was created on a Mac.

It turns out the culprit was a bad font in the image. I opened the image in Illustrator and converted the font to outlines. That solved the problem! Incidentally, this one image/font problem (this image is used in a couple different manuals) also was causing InDesign to crash when I exported to PDF.
Adobe people, if you read this, it would be great if problematic fonts in images were detected by InDesign, like an error in the preflight panel similar to the linking and font errors currently there. I can't see a way to detect this easily now (how to narrow down which image is a problem when working with 50+ images in a document?) Is there a way that I don't know about?

  • Illustrator CS6 crashes when saving or printing

A couple weeks ago, my AI CS6 started crashing when saving complex line work (Rhino Make2D exports) or when I tried to check the printer setting. I've reinstalled AI and installed the latest updates. For a few days, the saving problem went away but it has returned today. I have cleared the preferences folder.
    I am running Windows 7.
Is this a Rhino/AutoCAD export issue? The saving problem persists even when I copied a small section of the linework to a fresh AI document. Simple vectors don't lead to saving problems. Thanks!

You need to provide system information or else this is no use to anyone...

  • Why does Illustrator crash when saving to a new location on my new MacPro 13" Retina Pro running Yosemite?

Why does Illustrator crash when saving to a new location on my new MacPro 13" Retina Pro running Yosemite?

That won't do. What I mean is you have to navigate to the file and make it active in pastebin and then copy the highlighted line like this

  • Flash Professional CC crashes when saving, corrupting files

My company upgraded from flash CS5 to Flash Professional CC just recently, and i was hoping for a more stable experience, as Crashes when saving from Flash CS5 happened allmost daily. Seem i was wrong, occasionally when saving Flash CC crashes, and ends up breaking my work files... I ususally manage hundreds of files during a week, so having a stable enviroment is quite important for me. Any suggestions? Other than getting rid of Flash, though this is fast moving up the list...

Yes, I allways have the most recent version.
Guess i just have to work locally again, as i was forced to when using Flash CS5. Its frustrating, as some of the files (non-flash) i produce is  edited by other colleagues on the server. And i need to sync those files back  to my computer, to keep everything up to date... Not to mention i have  to sync the files i produce to two different servers. A project consist of at least 40-80 flash files and each of them accompanied by several files... xml, images, sound, and so on...
