InDesign CC crashing on Startup

Hi all,
InDesign CC is always crashing on me now when I start it up. I can't work out what's up. It's always at the ‘Executing startup services…’ stage. I renamed my preferences to see if this helped, but it created a new set upon opening and then crashed again.
I've also tried logging out and in again from Creative Cloud.
Additionally, the crash report has this interesting line…
Application Specific Information:
*** error for object 0x115b9e5a8: incorrect checksum for freed object - object was probably modified after being freed.
Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Turns out just uninstalling and re-installing this has fixed it.
All is well

I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice. I have deleted preferences. Nothing works. Remainder of the creative suite launches fine.

I have downloaded the patch directly. First downloaded the 8.0.1 and then was able to get the 8.0.2. This is the current error message at startup:

I have been using Indesign CS4 version 6.0 with no issues for several years. All of a sudden, it started to crash on startup. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I tried removing any documents in the recovery folder, I tried removing any settings/preferences. I can't figure it out. This is the error I receive.  (please note, I have the master collection, and my other programs load just fine)

I even contacted support and they couldnt help me. There was nothing in the forums, and everything is now for CS6 or CC versions.
    I found this:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4877
Its the update, so I am guessing that something went wrong with an automatic update, because I installed it and it is working again!
Hopefully this will work for anyone else who comes across this issue.

  • InDesign CS5 crashes on startup - Mac OSX Lion

    Hi Everyone,
I've reinstalled InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator CS5 after upgrading to Mac OSX Lion,
Photoshop and Illustrator work fine but InDesign crashes on startup.
I've followed a few threads on here, one suggested creating a new adimistrator-level user on my machine - and that works, but I can't figure out what to fix in my regular user to make InDesign work in here again...
This is the error report I'm getting:
    http://pastebin.com/a2LrMFdw
    Help, anyone?
    Thanks a lot!

I'm having a similar problem but I haven't been able to get it to work. I created a new administer level user but InDesign still won't open under that user. I've tried the other suggestions as well with no success. Please help!!!! It really doesn't help that I'm in South East Asia traveling with no fast internet to be found.  :\

  • InDesign CS6 crashes at startup after windows 7 update

InDesign crashes at startup after windows 7 update: Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\MSVCR100.dll (Microsoft Visual C runtime and update KB2538243 and KB2565063)
    Reinstalling did not help
Also Adobe Encore CS6 seems to be affected

I looked at the recovery files in:
    C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\Version 8.0\en_US\Caches\InDesign
I deleted all the files and Indesign started up fine.  feeling good I closed Indesign and restarted.
    Indesign Crashed again.
Deleted all files again and reloaded.
I went to "Edit:Preferences:File Handling:Document Recovery Data"  to:
    G:\Adobe\Indesign\Cache\Recovery
Interestingly, the Indesign application recovery files still reside in the user directory above.   But the document recovery data moves to the G drive above.
There is no clear reason why Indesign quit loading today.  It worked fine since initial installation last year.  But separating the document recovery data from the application recovery data seems to fix the problem for now.

  • InDesign/Illustrator crash at startup?

Yes, I've looked through most (if not all) of the previous threads that come close to matching my scenario, but none of the recommended solutions work inlcuding deleting preferences, launching from a different user account, removing the SING folder, etc.
I have a early 2011 MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-i7-2.3-17-early-2 011-unibody-thunderbolt-specs.html) but with a 500 GB SSD and 8 GB of RAM. I was able to run all Adobe CS 5.5 applications without problem until recently. As of today, Illustrator and InDesign quit unexpectedly before the splash screen even appears. Photoshop and Acrobat launch without problems. I did not install any software updates or modify the laptop in any way since before the apps were working.
I had the exact same problem about a month ago and after trying several of the options above, I finally backed up my files, wiped the drive, re-formatted and re-installed Snow Leaopard from scratch, re-installed all my apps and tried running InDesign and Illustrator and they worked again...for about three weeks. Now I'm back where I began.
    InDesign 5.5 crash report (http://pasteit.com/18257)
    Illustrator 5.1 crash report (http://pasteit.com/18258)
    InDesign 4.1 crash report (http://pasteit.com/18259)
When I came across the thread about the crashes with Lion on 2012 MBPs, I thought it might have been related to my issue since I originally had Lion installed. I had to revert back to Snow Leopard in order to run PTI's FusionPro 7.2 software which is not Lion compatible. But then I learned that my laptop is a 2011 model so maybe that's not it either.
Any ideas that I haven't tried? Anyone else have a similar problem? I am currently using open source software (Scribus and Inkscape) until I can come up with a solution that does not involve wiping my hard drive every 3 weeks.

As a side note, the last time this occurred, I went so far as to uninstall Adobe CS and reinstall. The result was the same -- crash on startup for InDesign and Illustrator but not for Photoshop and Acrobat. When I wiped the machine, reinstalled the OS and all my apps/data, it worked again. For three weeks. As best I can tell, neither Adobe or Apple has updated thier software on my machine since the last time I had both apps working.

  • Adobe CS4 (64bit) Potoshop, InDesign, Premiere crashes on startup

I am in need of some major help.  I have a user who only on his profile Adobe Potoshop, InDesign, and Premiere crash on startup.  I've tried most of the basic trouble shooting but still not working.  Any Ideas?
    Computer Specs:
    HP z400 Workstation
    Intel Xeon W3520 2.66 8MB/1066
    6GB of RAM
    ATI FirePro V5700 512MB Graphics

I was going to suggest resetting application preferences, but with multiple applications crashing, perhaps the problem is with the system...
First, I think I'd look to see if there are any updated display drivers available for the user's system, from the web site of the maker of the display adapter (video card).
You can try to see if disabling OpenGL support in Photoshop restores operation:  Edit - Preferences - Performance, uncheck [ ] Use OpenGL Drawing.
If you do want to try to reset Photoshop preferences back to defaults, which is known to correct a lot of problems, have the user do this:
    1.  Press and hold Control - Shift - Alt immediately after starting Photoshop from its shortcut or menu item.
    2.  When the prompt "Do you want to set preferences back to defaults" comes up, confirm.
    Best of luck.

  • InDesign CS3 crashing on startup

    Hi
One of our plug-ins is causing InDesign CS3 5.0.3 (release version running on Windows XP) to crash on startup. This is only affecting one customer, on all their PCs, but we can't reproduce it in-house. It happened before, to the same customer and the same plug-in, a few months ago, and we 'fixed' it by reverting from the 5.0.3 SDK to the 5.0.1. However, now the problem has returned.
This isn't much to go on, but can anyone suggest what might be causing this?
    Thanks,
    Charles

Well, I finally fixed it. It comes down to an issue with Visual Studio: that programs built with it will not necessarily run on a target PC that doesn't have VS. You have to run a Microsoft file called vcredist.exe on the target PC, which provides it with the missing DLLs etc. We knew about that, but it turns out that when we decided to service pack VS2005, we should have downloaded a new version of Microsoft's redistributable program.
Why only this customer was affected remains a mystery. At a guess they have installed some other piece of software that included incompatible versions of some DLLs, and running Microsoft's installer fixed things as a side effect.
The crash I was getting on one of our own PCs a couple of days ago now looks like a completely different bug introduced by my diagnostic code. I'd investigate further except I'm already sick of this problem, and all I need to do is remove the diagnostics.
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

  • Indesign CS5 crash during startup - problem with Graphics.rpln

I work in an architectural company and already several of our computers have experienced this very rare and unusual behaviour. During start up of Indesign (not clicking on any file but just launching Indesign) it crashes with the following error:
"Adobe Indesign CS5 has stopped working"
We use Windows 7 64bit, so the first step I did - I went into Application Log which says, so appears to be a problem with Graphics.rpln.

I have tried everything I could think of - removed and reinstalled Adobe CS5, manually removed Adobe folders under %Appdata%\Local and %Appdata%\Remote folders (why can't Adobe delete those things during uninstallation is always a total mystery), changed video adapter drivers, cleaned Temp folders, everything I knew...
None of the other apps like Photoshop or Illustrator CS5 malfunction - only Indesign. What is going on?
Can it conflict with other software we use? We have Bentley Microstation, 3D Max, Office 2010, Kaspersky Antivirus and LOGMEIN installed on this computer...Any clues, guys?

Looks to me like you've never installed any of the patches. Last patch for CS5 was 7.0.4, so I'd start with that and see if ti helps.

  • InDesign CC crashes during startup process

When InDesign CC launches, it gets to a certain point before it crashes every time at the same point.  It is the 64-bit versions only, the 32-bit will still load but it is so much slower and terrible to work in for me.  I am running Windows 7 and have all the latest cloud InDesign updates installed.  I have tried exiting the CC launcer application so the TypeKit fonts wouldn't load on startup with no avail.  I have tried using msconfig to use a Selective startup, not loading any startup items and restarting and again, no dice.
Here's the complete text of what you see in the problem details in that window screenshot above:

So here's what I've done now.  I uninstalled the 32-bit version and tried to update the 64-bit version but the CC app wouldn't give me an option to update.  Then I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it said it was updating at the end of installation process, and now I have both 32 and 64-bit versions installed (I don't have an option, the CC app installs both and I don't know of any other way to install) and here's the versions I have now that it installed by default:
    32-bit (9.2.1.101):
    64-bit (9.0.0.244):
And of course, the 64-bit version is still crashing in the same place during launch.
Salah, you mentioned to "Try to run indesign cc 64-bit from windows start menu and install the latest update" - I actually have been launching the two versions of InDesign from the start menu throughtout this entire process.  How do I go about installing the latest update for the 64-bit version?  There's no update that appears in my CC app for me to install.
Maybe it's just the CC app that's messed up?  I did notice in the apps list that it says Lightroom 4 is installed and gives me the choice to install 5, but I uninstalled that a while ago and have been running version 5 on my machine.

  • InDesign CS4 Crashes at Startup Windows 7

I just moved to a new computer at work (Windows 7) and installed CS4 Design Standard. All programs (PhotoShop, Illustrator and Acrobat) except InDesign will open and work fine. InDesign crashes when the startup panel shows "Starting up Service Registry..."
When I login with my local administrator user profile (no server access) InDesign opens with no errors however anytime I try to open it using my main user profile (also an administrator profile but without access to our server) InDesign crashes at "Starting up Service Registry" and will not open.
I am nearly ready to pull my hair out. Your help is appreciated.

I have just learned that Adobe DOES NOT provide support for CS4 without payment! Adobe, you received payment when I bought the software. Now you want more? I could understand if I were on a relic (CS3 or heaven forbid CS2) but 1 version back and no support!? Well, thank you VERY much Adobe.
Working for a small non-profit that cannot afford to upgrade each time a new version comes out we expect support! What does it say about your customer service and your confidence in your software that you don't support the previous version?!?
I try to be an understanding person, but I cannot understand this.

  • InDesign CS6 crashing at Startup

So I installed Windows 8, and now we re-installed Adobe CS6 inDesign but whenever I start up inDesign it says "The program has encountered a problem and needs to close", the thing is though if I run it as an administrator everything works fine and no crashes. What's wrong/happening?

Well, it should be working (obviously). Did you activate the default Administrator account and have success with that? It sounds like you did.
I have no idea why it isn't working. I'd uninstall, run the clean tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) run MSConfig and turn off all non-essential startups and services, and reboot, then try the install again. You can run MSconfig again after to restroe normal startup.
