Indesign CC crashing when I try to place a PDF.

I just installed CC day before yesterday. Today is the first issue I have had. It doesn't seem to have any issues placing JPEGs or EPS files, but it does not like PDFs. Anyone else experience this and know what could be causing it?
Thanks!

If ID is now crashing as it starts up, the recovery data is corrupt and you'll need to empty the InDesign Recovery folder. And if cropping to media is not working, either the .indd file is damaged, the PDF is damaged, or the apllication prefs are damaged.
See if you are able to get the document to open again, then try to place some other PDF. If it crashes again, try creating a new user account  an log in with that and see if you can place a PDF. Let us know what's happening.
Interesting....must have been the .indd file that was damaged or the app. prefs. I had tried placing PDFs I knew were good and it still crashed. I didn't figure the document was damaged because it was a brand new document. However, after clearing the Recovery and creating a new document, it placed fine. A little confusing, haha!

InDesign CC keeps crashing when I try to place any PDF's - I'm running it on windows 7.0
I've tried several different PDFs all with the same result
    Any ideas?

This sounds like it might have been a problem with the selected import options (for example, setting a crop option for a crop box that isn't actually defined in the PDF). These options are "sticky" until changed, so when you have a problem like this it's a good idea to try again and show the import options.

  • Illustrator crashes when I try to place .psd file

What can I do to stop illustrator from crashing when I try to place photoshop files

Happens with a certain .psd - open .psd in Photoshop and resave over the same file. Can flush out corruption.
Happens with all .psds -  update illustrator (eg:. 16.0 to 16.04) reset your illustrator preferences.

acrobat x pro crashes when I try to flatten a pdf after using typewriter to insert a date.
Has anybody else seen this problem? Is there a fix?
I wanted to download the demo of acrobat XI but it says the previous version will be removed and deactivate the license. That sucks!

Yes it is up to date.
I can use the stamp tool and flatten it after with no problems, but the typewriter tool crashes it upon attempting to flatten.

  • InDesign CS6 crashes when I try to copy a graphic

I am working in CS6 with a document that was converted from CS4. I want to move a graphic from one spot in the document to another, but when I try to copy it, InDesign immediately crashes. Has anyone else had this problem?
I am working on a PC, and I believe the original file was created on a Mac.

It turns out the culprit was a bad font in the image. I opened the image in Illustrator and converted the font to outlines. That solved the problem! Incidentally, this one image/font problem (this image is used in a couple different manuals) also was causing InDesign to crash when I exported to PDF.
Adobe people, if you read this, it would be great if problematic fonts in images were detected by InDesign, like an error in the preflight panel similar to the linking and font errors currently there. I can't see a way to detect this easily now (how to narrow down which image is a problem when working with 50+ images in a document?) Is there a way that I don't know about?

  • FM 10: FM crashes when I try to Save as PDF

I have TCS 3.0 installed on Windows 7, and have been trying to gen a PDF. In FM 7 and 8, I would always do a "Print Setup", followed by a Print Book (both in the File menu). However, in FM 10, I have tried to gen a PDF using the "Save as PDF" option, and Frame crashes every time. But when I try the Print Setup and then Print Book method, I have no problem gen'ing a PDF. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there a solution, or is this a bug in Frame 10 or Acrobat X?
    Thanks for any enlightenment.

When I try to gen a PDF from a single chapter file, FM crashes. What is interesting is that I get slightly different dialog boxes when I use Save as PDF vs Print Book.
Save as PDF gives me this dialog, which has the options for "Generate PDF for review only" and "Convert CMYK Colors to RGB".
However, when I click File > Print Book > PDF Setup..., the dialog looks like this (see below). It does not have the 2 options that the prior dialog does.

  • Illustrator hangs or crashes when I try to save as PDF

I am using Illustrator to creates designs for a Flex app. My document has a lot of symbols, rasterized images and layers (it's about 8.1 MB).
Illustrator has stopped doing two things that I need it to do:
    1) It just hangs (infinite beachball on OS X) when I try to Save As an "Acrobat Viewable" AI file.
    2) It also hangs (or crashes on my PC) when I try to save as PDF, regardless of the options I choose.
I can Save or Save As as long as I don't include Acrobat support.
    Any ideas on this? Thanks!

Started eliminating layers, one by one, and trying a PDF export.
It hung and hung and hung until I had deleted about 10 first level layers... then it hung for a bit and boom! It exported.
I went into the original doc and deleted the last layer I had removed from the test doc and it hung as usual.
My conclusion? No bad objects - just too many layers for Illustrator to handle in a timely manner. I've officially taxed the program, which was totally crashing it on my Windows machine.
Why so many layers? Since I am skinning a Flex app by exporting a .swf skin file from Illustrator, I have all of the app layouts in one .ai file. This consists of 46 first level layers, and hundreds of secondary and tertiary layers. It also includes a truckload of embedded graphics sprinkled throughout for layout purposes. Plus symbols.
It's just too much for Illustrator - a program not really designed for this workflow - to handle.
I don't want to make separate files for each site section as that'd require me to port the symbols back and forth all the time when I make a simple change, like a button style adjustment.
Any other advice on managing this better is appreciated, but nothing jumps out as an easy and scalable solution.
Thanks for the help, especially jean.

  • InDesign CS5 crashes when I try to do anything with a certain 5 pages in document (even scroll past)

I'm having issues with five pages within an InDesign document.
I was trying to export a document to PDF, but a couple of images weren't showing up on a couple of pages.  So I tried exporting to PDF in a couple of different ways to see if that would help.  It didn't.  Instead, InDesign started crashing constantly.  Turning Preflight off helped with that, and I was able to clear out any other potential problems (potentially problematic PDFs placed in the document, .eps images).  I tried exporting as .idml, but it created 4 kb files that couldn't be opened; I think InDesign was crashing before the file could finish exporting.  Now that I can get the document open for extended periods of time, I've tried exporting as a .idml file again, and it gets to 83% complete and doesn't finish.
I started trying to export as PDF again, and by exporting parts of the document, I was able to narrow the problem down to pages 162-166.  I don't know what's different about these pages.  I have the PDF that I managed to export successfully before it started crashing constantly (the one with the missing images--and to clarify, these missing images aren't on any of the problem pages, so it appears to be an unrelated issue), and from looking at those pages, I can't see what the issue is.
    p. 162 - text and a table
    p. 163 - text and an image
    p. 164 - text
    p. 165 - text and an image
    p. 166 - text
I can't even scroll past these pages.  Even in the Pages sidebar.  It crashes. Here is the crash log from when I tried to scroll past.  http://pastebin.com/B7ax4cAx
Here's a crash report for when I try to export those pages to PDF:  http://pastebin.com/E6dA1igA
I'm using CS5 on OS X 10.5.8.  When I started having these problems, I realized that I hadn't updated InDesign in awhile, so I updated to the latest.  I'm using 7.0.4 now.

    Try reseting the preferences.
or  delete Mark II folder from the location
    Windows 7/Vista: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\SING\Mark II
Mac OS: [Startup Disk]/Library/Applications Support/Adobe/SING/Mark II
    It will fix this..
This problem is pretty definitely not SING, so deleting the Mark II folder is not going to help. (It wont't hurt, though!)
Resetting prefrences is always a good thing to try.
I suspect it is a corrupt story thread of some sort. Moving pages to a new document, exporting stories to IDML, copying the file and deleting pages until the problem goes away...those are things I would try.

  • Adobe Illustrator CS4 is crashing when I try to place an object

Every time I try to place an object... or really everytime I try to do something that opens a finder window (re-linking objects, etc) the program crashes.  I have a macbook pro, should have plenty of RAM and have no idea why this is happening.
    Please help!

    Nelli:
Can you tell us how much RAM you have and what OS version you are running?
Also, how much hard drive space do you have available?
It may be only that your preferences got corrupt. Have you tried deleting your preference file and letting Illustrator rebuild it when it's launched again?

  • InDesign v 8.0.1 crashing when I try to package or pdf

I am recently upgraded to InDesign version 8.0.1, running on a Macbook Air with Mountain Lion 10.8.2. I opened a file I created in InDesign CS3. It opened fine, no issues at all except having to relink a few things and resolve some font conflicts. However if I try to package or pdf the document (64 page booklet) it immediately crashes. So it does not even start processing the pdf or the package, just immediately crashes. I tried pdfing just a few pages at a time, same exact reaction. Please help- open to any and all suggestions!!

You can try exporting the file from CS6 to .idml and open that and resave with a new name. DO NOT OVERWRITE the file you have now (in fact if you've already overwritten the CS3 version you can no longer use the .inx trick). This is not as effective as exporting the original, but it might work.
You can also try moving the pages into a new document, or export the stories to ID tagged text and import them into a new document (you'll have to place all the graphics again, if there are any).

  • InDesign CS3 crashes when I try to insert a new page

I'm working on a document that is currently 70+ pages in InDesign CS3, and whenever I try to add a new page (regardless of where I try to add the new page at within the document), InDesign crashes. I haven't experienced this issue with any other documents. After not having worked on this document for several days, I was able to insert 2 new pages today before the issue started again. I've done several searches on the Adobe forums, and I haven't come across anyone who seems to experience this same problem. But if anyone has, or has a suggestion for me to try, I would really appreciate it, as this document needs to grow to 100 pages, meaning I really need the ability to insert pages!!
Computer: Mac OS X, 10.5.8, Dual 2.3 GHz PowerPC G5
    Software: InDesign CS3
Error Message: InDesign has unexpectedly quit. A crash report has been generated....

Thanks, Peter. The problem still persisted through a new indd file created from an exported inx file though. I was able to work around the issue by setting my document to 100 pages in Document Settings. That added enough extra pages at the end of the document which I can then move to other locations within the document.

  • Indesign CS2 Crashes when I try to export a document as pdf

I'm using Indesign CS2 on a G5 using OS X version 10.4.11. As i try to export my document indesign completely crashes after I click the 'export' button in the pdf options window. I've tried saving using different pdf options and different document types but it still happens?

Does your document contain any EPS files..? If so try re-saving them. InDesign can work with native photoshop & illustrator files.
Failing that check your fonts as there may be a corrupt one lurking about...

  • InDesign CS3 crashes when I try to remove pages from my document

I've crashed CS3 InDesign when I tried deleting pages using the Page Menu. I'm using Apple OS 10.49.
PS the Options are grayed out from the Menu list. Only "Add Pages" is selectable.
Using the Pages Window, If I select a spread and try to move it to the trashcan, it crashes the program.
    Any solutions?

Does it work in a new user?
and why are you stuck at 10.4.9? 10.4.11 is much better 10.4.9 had issues as I remember.

  • Indesign CS3 crashes when I try to print in Lion

I installed Lion this morning and I'm unable to print from InDesign and Illustrator CS3. Both applications crash before the print dialogue opens. I really need to solve this problem. Everything I do as a designer goes through  InDesign.

Most of our customers use CS3...Adobe stopped supporting CS3 when they released CS5. CS3 worked fine on my non i7 iMac, when I migrated to the i7 iMac it stopped working. Called Adobe and over 2-3 weeks time they told me it wouldn't work! Re-installed from original cd works fine. Thanks for posting this tho, now I know to not upgrade to OS X 10.7!
