InDesign CC - hiccup or bug?

I hope I can explain this ok - I have completed a 62 page catalogue and all is ok (I am no expert, but I have been using InDesign for a couple of years).
Suddenly, after trying to create a pdf to print the catalogue out for proof reading by others, now in many of the pages, if I click on an object and try to move or extend it, the page disappears and I have to scroll down for ages to get back to the page.
This is happening in around 15 of the 60 pages, so now my catalogue is still there, but certain objects are missing and I have these huge gaps between the pages (spreads) where the problems are.
I am worried about this, any suggestions?

Screen shot would help.

  • Indesign CS6 epub export bug

    I am using Indesign CS6 to export a book to epub. Having problems with automatic numbers and bullets as well as spacing issues; however, I've made some adjustments and am getting a pretty decent epub. Here's the issue: When I convert my epub to Mobi using Calibre, I get double bullets and double numbers in my lists. I used this same process to create a Mobi file a few months ago in Indesign 5.5 with no problem. So I took one of my CS6 files, exported it to IDML, opened it in CS5.5 and exported to ePub. I then took that epub and converted it to Mobi using Calibre. No double bullets or numbers. So the issue is coming from Indesign CS6.
    Anyone else had this issue. Any other ideas on how to get a clean Mobi file from CS6?

    Thanks a million.

    lotuscott,
    You should get the 8.0.1 update for InDesign CS6. It fixes several EPUB bugs including the "space before" problem and the "epub-ruby" (which is I believed intended for Japanese language.

  • Acrobat  CD Form Button Display incorrectly  when an effect  or transparency  is applied  Via indesign  Looks like a bug

    I have tested existing interactive pdfs that function perfectly in Acrobat XI and Adobe acrobat Reader but open the same files in Acrobat DC and Acrobat DC Reader and most of the documents i have designed and produces over last few years have been renderer useless
    Basically any interactive  form field wich uses  Effects,  Transparency  or  mode changes  like multiply  in every instance the  whole form element appear as a pixelated mess
    I have been posting  in an indesign Thread  https://forums.adobe.com/message/7427566#7427566  it contains  picture and a sample document
    Steve Werner has been helping  me   and has suggest  i post here too
    Graeme,
    I downloaded your PDF file. I have both Acrobat DC and Acrobat XI Pro and I can confirm that I view it the same way that you do.
    It clearly seems to be a bug. In the Acrobat beta group, most users are probably not InDesign users, and most of us who do use InDesign probably didn't create or test Show/Hide buttons using those forms of transparency. I'm sure it's not intentional, probably a side effect of some other change.
    It needs to be reported as a bug. I'd suggest using the Bug Report form here:
    Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form
    Also, there are several Acrobat forums. I'd suggest posting (if you haven't already) in the these two forums:
    Rich Media & 3D
    PDF Forms

    It's good that you'll be submitting a bug. This sort of thing has happened before, and I think it's related some to the fact that InDesign is capable of generating field appearances that you can't set up in Acrobat (transparency in particular).

  • InDesign pages turn grey, bug?

    Hi
    First time using this forum actively, but often it has provided me with valuable help. This one i haven't been able to find though.
    In a lengthy document i suddenly notice some of the pages have turned grey. The background of the affected pages appear to be gray, and colors overprinting on this color. Some links on the pages are invisible, and the page numbers appear as "PB"
    I have not done anything differently than usual when working with InDesign.
    Upon trying to export the affected pages, Indesign appears to recognise the page array, although being labeled as "PB" on the actual pages. However it doesn't export the pages, only a square, blank document instead.
    I've tried closing the application and opening it again, but it appears as though the document itself has been compromised somehow, as it is not a bug that appear on random pages.

    Hi man, thanks for the quick answer. However, i know its the pasteboard, but when 10 pages in the document suddenly decides to act as pasteboard and not actual content, that freaked me out.
    I tried removing the pages from the document, but InDesign crashed every time. Seems very much like a bug to me.

  • InDesign CS 4 Gradient bug

    I've been using InDesign for a few years but only upgraded to CS4 recently. I've come across a behaviour that I'm sure isn't normal.
    Create a shape and apply a gradient fill. no worries. Now apply an angle to the fill and then add a colour to the gradient by dragging from the swatches down to the gradient palette. This is where things get strange. The colour swatches that are in the gradient palette disappear whilst you are dragging the new swatch down. Then release the mouse when the swatch is in position. It places in the newly created gradient into your shape but resets the gradient to 0 degrees. Also due to the swatches disappearing in the gradient palette whilst dragging in new colours it makes it hard to position new colours accurately. I'm running Snow Leopard, I don't know if that has anything to do with this problem. Anyway does anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to get the gradients to behave as in a CS3.

    Your right, it certainly doesn't behave as CS3.
    Tested versions 5.0.4 and 6.0.4 on PC running Vista Ultimate sp2
    CS3 is not maintaining the angle of a gradient as a swatch option but colors can be added without affecting it.
    hmm, CS3 - Save a gradient swatch, select it, add a swatch to modify it, containing frames do not update...
    double click the icon from the swatch panel to edit and you can make edits which will affect all frames; CS3 & 4
    You don't seem to able to add a color to an existing swatch in either version so the only thing i'm seeing is that CS4 does reset the angle when adding a swatch to the ramp.

  • InDesign CS6 not tagging interactive PDF

    I don't know if I am doing something wrong but I can't get InDesign to export a properly tagged PDF.
    Can anybody please try the following steps and confirm the results:
    Create a new document in InDesign
    Draw a text box on the document
    Type "Text" in the text box
    Create new paragraph style called "My heading"
    Under Export Tagging in the Paragraph Style Options select "H1" under PDF->Tag
    Add the text box to the Articles panel
    In the Articles panel fly out menu activate Use for Reading Order in Tagged PDF
    Export document as Adobe PDF (Interactive)
    In the Export to Interactive PDF options window both options for Tagged PDF are checked
    Open the document in Acrobat Pro
    Open the Tags navigation pane
    Expand the tag hierarchy
    If the document is tagged correctly one of the tags should be labeled <H1> . Instead min is labeled what I called it within InDesign <My_heading>. This is essentially making larger documents with multiple heading levels inaccessible.
    Can anybody else confirm this issue or provide a fix (other than manually changing tags from within Acrobat Pro)?

    I tested in InDesign CC. (This bug would not be fixed in InDesign CS6.)
    I can confirm that this bug is still in InDesign CC (see illustration below).
    I don't know how to fix this except manually in Acrobat. (I don't normally work with accessibiility issues.)
    I'd suggest reporting the bug here:
    Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form

  • Spot Channels in CS6 wont import into Indesign and Incompatable with CS5

    File imports into Indesign but without spot channels.
    File will not open in Photoshop CS5
    By changing the spot color to Pantone Solid and resaving, I was able to open in Photoshop CS5, however the channel still did not import into Indesign CS5.
    I resaved the file from CS5 and the file imported correctly into Indesign.
    Windows 7 Home Premium 32
    AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core 2.5GHz
    4Gb RAM

    You didn't use Pantone Solid, you most likely used Pantone+ Solid (which is a new book).
    If you want to open that in Photoshop CS5, you'll need to copy the new book to CS5.
    InDesign - they had several bugs relating to spot color channels, which they should be fixing.
    But they too may need the new color book data.

  • Illustrator bug- menu bar all messed up, and it keeps crashing

    I have the weirdest bug on my trial version- the menu bar on top appears with $$$ signs and all messed up, and crashes constantly. I tried to delete and reinstall illustrator (I downloaded a trial version of the basic creative suite with Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign, but had the bug only on Illustrator. I even reinstalled Leopard (and in the first installation it was a brand new iMac), which also did not help, so I have no idea what to do. Has anyone else had the problem or knows what to do?
    Thanks!
    Dotan

    i had continual illustrator cs4 freezes in relation to the menus and some file types as well. (win 7 prof 64 bit)
    But I found it it worked in a newly created user profile fine.
    After having shelled out 3500.- eur for the masters colletion, I was rather dissapointed to find that i have to dig into my pocket for support when the software breaks. The solution is pretty simple assumabley known and could have been answered in two lines of text instead of the useless prefab answers i got.
    But first I have to join the general gripe about the stability of illustrator and flash in paticular. It is obvious that each product is created by different teams who do not share common standards. Inexplicable.
    Quark never cared about their customers while they were market leader either, remember that, Adobe?
    Their frustration became your success. It might pay to remember that part of your history.
    I solved the problem by replacing the entire settings folder with the one from the functional profile
    C:\Users\user-name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings
    save any custom color sets, etc first.
    three days of hair pulling for a 12 second solution.
    Thanks, Adobe!
    My motivation to pay another 1200.- for an upgrade is somehow shrinking very, very quickly.

  • InDesign CS6 Map export tags

    I have viewed the video on mapping which is most helpful. I have one difficulty.
    The export tags dialogue box shows only 6 heading options. Because my document was prepared for print, I have eight-nine heading styles. How do I deal with this problem?

    Thanks a million.

  • Saved InDesign files have blank thumbnails

    Ever since I updated to InDesign CC 14, and uninstalled CS6 and CC, the thumbnails of all my saved files are now blank. Also when I click on file in Folder to open it, a dialogue box with the following message pops up:
    "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing the action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."
    Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

    Sounds like you are running under Windows.
    InDesign has had a bug for over 10 years (if not longer) wherein if you install a new version and then delete any previous version, you lose file associations. A fix is supposed in the works.
    To repair your file associations you must total uninstall InDesign 10 (CC 2014) and then reinstall it.
    Yes, this is a royal pain in the tuchas!

  • Place Gun Bug

    Hi,
    the Place Gun in InDesign CS6 has several bugs. I did not found a bug report here, so here is mine.
    When selecting several images or a multipage PDF,
    - the image previews, when hitting the arrow keys do not change (the images to place are changed in background, but not the preview)
    - the little blue number indicating how much images are retaining, shows one to much after placing the first image
    - after placing one image, the preview will stay at the last placed image
    Here is my video report:

    Sorry, I forgot to mention! I use InDesign CS3, that's right!
    My problem isn't to place the 30 images on 3 different pages, as you answered. I try to explain it:
    I have 3 different pictures to place, named "restaurant", "garden" and "drinks" for example. Now I have one template page (I'm not sure if that's the right expression since I work with a german InDesign CS3) with 30 picture frames on it. I load my 3 pictures "restaurant", "garden" and "drinks" into the place gun and want to "shoot" them into the 30 picture frames, 18 times picture "restaurant", 8 times picture "garden" and 4 times picture "drinks". Sometimes it worked, but I don't know how it came to this, that the picture "restaurant" kept being in the place gun as long as I didn't press the ESC-Button, so I could place the file without going to the placing dialogue for 18 times, and after that, I pressed the ESC-Button, and the second picture, "garden" came as next file in the place gun, which I could place then 8 times, ... I'm not sure, if that was a program bug, or if I can get this via a shortcut, but in many projects I work on it would be fine to have this function working! Any idea if it is a bug, or if I can get this function working intentionally?
    Thank you very much for your help in advance!
    Best regards, René

  • [CS5/JS/ScriptUI]: All contents is removed from tabbedpanel when showing alert box or other Window.

    When I open a new window (an alert box, another scriptUI window, or an old style InDesign dialog) from my non modal ScriptUI interface, the contents inside all tabs on the tabbedpanel of the window disappear completely, and the last tab is selected.
    Other controls, outside the tabbed panel (but in the same window) are left untouched.
    I suspect the error has to do with the tab control. I have been able to recreate the error in an extremely simple window, and I attach the code below.
    #targetengine 'test'
    var Window1 = new Window('palette','Test',undefined);
    buildWindow();
    Window1.show();
    function buildWindow(){
        Window1.tabMain = Window1.add('tabbedpanel',undefined,undefined);
        Window1.tabMain.minimumSize= [450,170];
        Window1.tabMain.Tab1 = Window1.tabMain.add('tab',undefined,"Tab 1");
        Window1.tabMain.Tab1.Static1 = Window1.tabMain.Tab1.add('staticText',undefined,"Text on tab 1");
        Window1.tabMain.Tab2 = Window1.tabMain.add('tab',undefined,"Tab 2");
        Window1.tabMain.Tab2.Static1 = Window1.tabMain.Tab2.add('staticText',undefined,"Text on tab 2");
        Window1.tabMain.Tab1.btnTest = Window1.tabMain.Tab1.add('button',undefined,"Test");
        Window1.tabMain.Tab1.btnTest.onClick = function(){alert('btnTest_onClick')};
        // Trying with calls to layout . (This button is not affected by the alert showing - only controls inside the tabbed panel)
        Window1.btnLayout = Window1.add('button', undefined, 'Window1.layout.layout()');
        Window1.btnLayout.onClick = function(){Window1.layout.layout()};
    The interface works well in CS4, and also if I make the window modal (by creating it as a "dialog").
    In CS5, the result is this:
    Calling layout.layout() or layout.resize() doesn't do anything.
    If someone else would like to try my code, do you get the same effect?
    Is the behaviour known?
    Is there a way to prevent this from happening for non modal ScriptUI windows?
    Best regards,
    Andreas Jansson

    Thanks Marijan, for testing and letting me know!
    I filed a bug report now. We would perhaps have to "force" a couple of our clients to an upgrade from CS5 to CS5.5 in order to beat this bug and get it working, unless Adobe acknowledges it quickly, which I don't count on.
    No good news then... I took for granted that the interface would work in CS5 if I made it in CS4.
    (The thing that I was mostly concerned about was a tree view which I tested in Mac/PC and on CS4/CS5. Not the "tabbed panel"...)
    Andreas
    Adding this answer I got from Adobe:
    Monday, November 21, 2011 2:21:03 AM PST
    Hello Andreas,
    I was able to replicate this problem with InDesign CS5. This bug seems
    to have already been fixed as a side effect of some code change within
    InDesign CS5.5.
    I have logged this under bug # 3050997. This will now be worked upon by
    InDesign engineering and should be fixed soon.
    I'll keep you informed about updates on this bug.

  • Spanning Columns, Messes TOC Order

    Hello
    I have earlier posted a thread with my problem. See: Re: TOC Problem, Wrong Order, Connected/Unconnected Text Frame
    Now when the problem is tracked down (spanning of columns) I choose to create a new thread hoping that someone has encountered the same problem and has a possible solution. (Using CS 6)
    The problem:
    I have chapters (H1) with sub-chapters (H2). The text is flowing freely between the chapter text-frames, until a new chapter (H1) starts. The chapter title (H1) spans over all columns, defined in its paragraph style.
    When creating a TOC I have found that if a sub-chapter (H2) is above a new chapter (H1) the spanning column function messes up the TOC order. See chapter 1:4 in my example.
    The problem may be bypassed by doing one of the following things:
    Disable the column span of H1. E.i the chapter heading in a single column messes up the original layout.
    Connect all text frames. E.i, flow text thru all text-frames, may become a problem when rearing the chapter order.
    Remove the text-frame connection of the text-frames….
    None of these solutions are sufficient. I have never during my 13 years with Indesign encountered such showstopper/bug.

    Thanks for your replay.
    The numbers is written text to make it easier to comprehend the example. These are not auto-generated.
    In the other thread I had got some response:
    "When the textframe flows from an even page number to an uneven page number the problem (like from page 2 to page 3) the TOC is incorrect.
    But when the textframe flows from an uneven page number to an even page number (like from page 3 to page 4) the TOC is correct."
    Which does not make any sense at all.

  • Import Photoshop Spot channels as Overprint

    Hi,
    I've had a few issues with this recently, which has led me here... When you have a Photoshop file with a Spot channel, it works in Photoshop as expected...
    The spot channel Overprints the rest of the image (well, the CMYK remains unchanged). This is accross the whole image, Solid areas and transparent areas.
    But when it's imported into ID it knocks out all the areas which have transparency.
    Could it remain Overprint by default, and it be up to me to mask the knock outs within Photoshop?
    OR have a similar option to Object Layer Options which allows control over Photoshops Spot channels?
    Asking for a bit much there?!
    Cheers
    Tom

    You didn't use Pantone Solid, you most likely used Pantone+ Solid (which is a new book).
    If you want to open that in Photoshop CS5, you'll need to copy the new book to CS5.
    InDesign - they had several bugs relating to spot color channels, which they should be fixing.
    But they too may need the new color book data.

  • Printers: Postscript vs Adobe PDF

    ID CS2. I'm exporting an ID file to PDF (a book) per printer's instructions by printing it as a postscript file, then running it through distiller. This produces a whopping pdf of nearly 20 mb. Now, if I select Adobe PDF as the printer in ID, I can select the very same settings as when I printed it to ps file, but the pdf comes out about 1/7 the size. Why is that?

    The PDF file bloat is due to a bug in InDesign 4. The bug is fixed in InDesign 5; the resultant PDF files are much smaller in size.
