InDesign CC missing fonts

I have a laptop that I use when I have to work away from home.  My laptop is a macbook pro that I recently purchased (early October 2013).  Both my iMac and macbook have gone through the recent updates to Mavericks and my iMac is working fine with Creative Cloud.  However, when I was trying to open documents I share through Drop Box on my laptop, using InDesign CC that was just upgraded a few days ago, I was told I was missing 3 fonts, all fonts that are always in InDesign.  So I turned off my computer and rebooted it, and now it's telling me I'm missing 9 fonts!  I have to go out of town for a famiy emergency tomorrow and I need my laptop.  I've searched and have no clue how to fix this.  This is a headache I really don't need right now, so any help is much appreciated.
These are the missing fonts:
Bell MT Bold
BlairMdlTCTT medium
Book Antiqua Bold
Bookman Old Style
Bookman Old Style Bold
Cambria
Cooper Black
Mona Lisa Solid ITCTT
Big Caslon Medium
And honestly, I haven't tried uninstalling/reinstalling InDesign CC - is this possible?

Are you perhaps using Suitcase Fusion?

  • InDesign CS4 missing fonts

I'll try this again.  After upgrading from CS2 to CS4, there are many fonts missing from my system, in particular the Warnock Pro family.  How do I get it back?

My CS2 Premium came withe a disk called Resources and Extras, and in that disk is a folder called Goodies. In the InDesign subfolder you'll find some fonts. Ther is also a folder called documentation, and in that folder you'll find another called Fonts which is where Bickham Script Pro and Warnock Pro are hidden.
Similarly, CS4 came with a disk labeled Content, with a Goodies folder containg a Fonts subfolder. I'm not sure about wheter you woould get those disk images with a download, but I think so.
You can install those fonts normally as with any font -- you wouldn't need to run the CS2 or CS4 installer to access them.

  • InDesign CS2 - missing font

Arial Black font is missing in my fonts menu.  I discovered that after installing Win XP SP3, the font had a problem. Downloaded a hotfix and this didn't work, then removed the font from my Windows font folder and installed the font again.  Now I have Arial Black in Microsoft Office products but still not in InDesign. I repaired InDesign installation and then uninstalled it and re-installed it. I tried suggested fixes - put the font in the Common Files folder; put the font in the InDesign Fonts folder - nothing works.  I'm getting desperate since this font is used in our logo!  How do I fix this problem?  I'm ready to try just about anything.  Thanks.

Thanks, Bob.  In the meantime I had also found that advice elsewhere, as well as advice to delete (well, actually, move to an unknown location) the file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\TypeSpt\FntNames.db - I hope that's not a problem (if it is, let me know and I'll put it back).  Then I rebooted just to be sure, and fired up ID.  No change - I could still see Arial and Arial Narrow in the list, but not Arial Black... but...
Wait!  It isn't in the fonts list when I just pull it down (with no document involved), but when I open my old document, now it recognizes the font that is supposed to be in the document, so it is no longer complaining and pink.  I don't know what of the various things I did caused that to start working, because after a few tries I had stopped opening any document when checking the fonts, concerned that there could be some legacy in the document that could have been interfering with something.
Then I wondered... if the font is now findable, how come I can't see it in the regular font pulldown?  So I got the idea to select Arial and look at the weights (which I had not been doing) - voila, there is a new weight choice called Black!  So somewhere in all the changes I did (reinstalling older versions of the fonts, deleting the font cache files, and several reboots) ID found the font again but decided that it was just another weight of Arial.  Strange, but I can live with that.

  • How to Change the (Missing) Font in Endnotes

Hello and thanks (again) in advance,
My preflight report showed that I have 170 errors: they are all missing fonts in the numbers of the endnotes.
Some of the Endnotes are in the Times New Roman Font, but for some reason, 170 endnotes are not. This is a font problem with the "number" part of the endnotes -- the text in the endnotes is all Times New Roman.
What I would like to do is to change the font from the missing one (Cambria Regular) to Times New Roman.
The endnotes were imported when I placed this MS-Word document into InDesign.
Here's what I tried, that failed:
    1. Fix the font problem when I opened the file, and InDesign showed missing fonts. (This fixed the fonts -- changed them from Cambria to Times New Roman) for all the text, but did not touch the numbers in the endnotes.
    2. Search and Replace for the number of the Endnote -- the numbers were ignored by the search.
    3. Search and Replace for the number of the Endnote, with the "Include Footnotes" button highlighted
    4. Search and Replace for Cambia Regular text (although I might not have done that correctly.) ... I left the "Find What" box blank, and in the "Find Format" box I selected Cambria Regular. ... Nothing was found.
    5. I deleted one of the numbers -- endnote 202 -- "by hand", and then retyped the number. This did change the font, but it had the bad effect of ruining the endnote numbering system: it made the next endnote (number 203) below it into number "1" and the endnote after that "2"
Also, I wondered if it "broke" the entire endnote system -- If there is some connection between the number that I deleted, and the corresponding superscript number in the text itself.
Here (below) is a screen shot of my pre-flight report.
You can see that some of the numbers in the endnotes,  (for example: 200 and 202) are in the correct font; but endnote numbers 201, 203, 204 are not in Times New Roman.
I am stuck ... Suggestions are welcome and appreciated !
    ZtG

Since ID doesn't really support endnotes, I suspect they were imported as a numbered list, particulary considering the uselectablility and find/change sympotoms you describe. Bullets and numbers in lists aren't "real" characters that can selected.
Find font should probably have done the trick if the numbers were assigned a style in the list definition AND you checked the update styles when changing all box in Find Font, so I'm also going to guess that you either didn't check the box or there is no style assigned to the numbers (and I suppose it's possible they aren't really a list).
The best solution would be, I think, to first verify that they the endnotes are a list, and to assign a character style to the numbers.

  • Missing Fonts after using Migration Assistant

I used the Migration Assistant to Migrate from one Mac to Another and now Indesign has missing fonts. I re-installed Indesign and it's still not working.
I am getting the following error - Missing Fonts The Doument "document.file" are not currently available on your system. The text will use a substitute font until the original font becomes available.
One of the font missing is ITC New Baskerville T1. But it's not only T1 fonts that are missing. I check with Font Book to make sure that this font is in there and it is. I cleared the font cache and checked adobe's documentation but I can't seem to figure this one out.

    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=328542
    Please help !

Most Adobe products seem to install fonts in 'non-standard' places. So it is annoying but not a surprise that Migration Assistant didn't find them. It is odd that reinstalling InDesign didn't fix it. Try restarting while holding down the Shift key, that will boot you into Safe Mode which, among other things, flushes the font caches. Maybe it is just confused!

  • Missing fonts in InDesign CS4 - even when 'open' in Suitcase Fusion 3

Hi all, I'm running InDesign CS4 on a Intel Mac Pro (tower), about 4 years old, running OSX Snow Leopard (all updates applied).
Using Suitcase Fusion V3 for font management.
I have a document that previously had no font issues at all.  Now when I open it InDesign throws up a 'Missing font' error.
I have the correct fonts installed and 'open' in Suitcase Fusion.
The font is available in Simpletext and Pages, but not InDesign and Illustrator.
The troublesome font was OK the other day and has been since it was installed.
I've not changed anything that I'm aware of... but now InDesign won't 'see' the font.
In the 'Find Font' dialogue box the 'Path' says it's 'Unkown or missing'.
InDesign can see the other weights in the font family (bold, italic etc) but not regular.  And yet the entire font family is in the same folder on my hard drive.
I've tried deleting all the' Adobe.lst' files.  No Joy.
I've run Font Doctor on the whole font family, its says it's OK.
    I've tried re-installing the font from a back-up.  Nada.
If anyone has any suggestions..... feel free to let rip!
As ever, I await your expertise and unstinting knowledge in these matters   And, needless to say, I'll be mighty appreciative for it!
    RP

Hi Bob, strangely... I've put the troublesome font, Dax (T1) Regular, in the Applications/Adobe InDesign CS4/Fonts folder and it seems to be working.
Never had to do that before.
Would be great to get back to 'normal'.  If possible.
Although I have many duplicates spread across back-up drives and collected artwork folders, I've also tried to eliminate any duplicate 'open' versions.  But the above solution is the only one that works at the moment.
    RP
p.s. I also tried removing any AdobeFNT**.lst files, (where ** is a number) before the above work around.  That didn't work either.

  • Missing fonts in Windows InDesign CC'14 vs OSX

We are a school with about 500 Windows 7 machines. We also have an iMac suite (about 25 strong). We have a Creative Cloud subscription and have deployed it to all of our computer suites and our iMac suite. CC 2014 versions of the relevant products have all been pushed out, so there should be parity between the two platforms.
Our problem is that our Windows clients are outright missing 90% of the TrueType fonts that are available on the OSX (Mavericks) clients. Most of the Media classes are taken in the iMac suite, and therefore the majority of their content has been created in there, but two or three times per week the classes rotate to a Windows suite. Some students are encountering issues where fonts are missing after opening their INDDs in InDesign for Windows.
I discovered that InDesign for OSX has vastly more fonts than on its Windows counterpart, specifically of the TrueType variety. About 90% of the TrueType fonts on Windows were missing. As far as I could tell, all of the OpenType fonts matched.
Students get the follow dialogue when they launch InDesign with a missing font:
So yeah, that's my issue. I've literally spent all afternoon researching this issue to no avail and am pretty much stumped at this point.
Any help and advice will be more than appreciated!
    Thanks for reading.

Early on in the life of Mac OS X (which has been around for over 10 years in multiple versions—we're now at 10.10), Apple advertised how many beautiful fonts were available with Mac OS X. And, it's true, they do install a lot of TrueType fonts.
Microsoft provides much fewer. As far as I can tell, most of them are installed with you install Microsoft Office products.
It's just the way it is.
I guess you could show students a list of the fonts installed with Creative Cloud apps (Minion Pro, Myriad Pro, etc.). You could also teach them about downloading Typeset fonts (although they won't be able to carry those to another location which doesn't have a CC subscription).

  • Missing fonts in PDF placed in InDesign

I was sent a PDF to make slight changes to it. Since the changes were so minor and relatively few, I thought it would be easiest to just place the pages of the PDF into an InDesign document and put white boxes over what needs to change.
I just noticed the Preflight panel says I'm missing Arial and Times New Roman which I know I have. I tried doing "Find Font" to replace the missing Arial with my Arial, but "Change" is grayed out so I'm thinking the fonts must not be properly embedded in the PDF.
I'm not sure if they have the original document the PDF came from (and if they do, it might be in Word). Is there a way I can fix this either in InDesign or with Acrobat?
Or, if I don't fix it, do you think that the missing fonts will not print properly?

You might be able to embed these fonts properly in the PDF. It isn't always successful, but in Preflight, open the fixups section and use the selection as in the screen shot. Then relink/replace the PDF in ID.

  • Missing Fonts in my inDesign file...

Just recently completed an inDesign file, but it is telling me it has missing fonts.  The file was originally started in CS4 by a coworker and completed by me in CS5.  I'm confused because the fonts show up in the file, but still are classified as missing.  I tried to send this file to print, but they could not print it because of the missing fonts.  If anyone could help me out, you would be doing me a huge favor.  Thanks everyone and have a great day.

I understand how to get the fonts to work and I just received the  Helvetica font's from him and got those working but the Berthold Akzidenz Grotesk aren't working.  They can in a file with a strange icon (a grey box with green letters that spelled out "exec").
    This is the one:
It's Mac OS X very unhelpful 'unrecognized file type' default icon, and it might be anything, from an unrecognized file format (unlikely because OS X should recognize most font files) up to a damaged download.
    imjimjim wrote:
When I "find first" to see where the missing font is located, its on the first and second pages and it is the background graphics, which I think an outside party designed.  If I can't get the Berthold fonts to work, what should I do next?
That's a problem on a different level. Is this in a placed EPS or PDF, or (sigh) even a placed InDesign page? Then it was up to the original designer to embed the fonts used into the image -- or, failing that, convert to outlines (which ought not to be necessary in a moderately modern workflow). About the only way to get it to work is to actually install these fonts on your system as well and hope it's the exact same version.

  • Find the Missing font text content in indesign document

How to find and get the missing font content in the indesign documents by using the SDK. give a tips and techniques.
    Anybodys help me.

It wont answer your question, but you could have this problem too:
I have a problem in my current project where text frame having no text make the document report the usage of a font wich we dont want the project to use (times by exemple). The problem being that Indesign report usage of a font wich is in fact not applied to any text. Weird!
The easy fix is to identify those items (text frame class + no text) and reassign them as "unassigned".

  • I cant place a pdf in Indesign because of missing fonts

I am running into a problem with a pdf add I am trying to place in a booklet. When I go to export the Indesign  document it tells me it cant because the pdf I placed in it has a font I don't have. I always thought you could place and print pdfs without having all the fonts. I thought it was only if you wanted to edit the pdf that you needed the font. Isn't that the point of a pdf? Does any one have a good solution for this? I am using Indesign cc 201 on a mac. The pdf is secure so I cant run any sort of preflight or flattening on it( at least as far as I know).

Is the export really failing, or are you getting a missing font warning and cancelling? The ad may not look good, but you should still be able to export, I think.
But bottom line here is that you need to educate the folks who send in the ads so they always embed the fonts.

  • InDesign CS6 + Yosemite + Copy/Paste = Missing font

We use ITC Franklin Gothic throughout all of our pieces; it's installed and it's the default font setup. New and existing files have opened without issue until now. I opened an advertisement that needed to be resized, from our shared server and copied the contents. In a new document, I pasted the contents suddenly the font says it's missing. The images retained their links to the packaged folder on the server, the fonts just stopped working. I closed InDesign, then disconnected from the server in case there was some kind of conflict between the local font and the server font override from the packaged fonts folder (packaged from the local font installed, I made the source ad this same way). Loaded the new file, and got the expected missing links dialogue, but unexpectedly the fonts were still missing. I reviewed the missing fonts, and it was the entire family. I opened Suitcase, verified the fonts are active. Still no fonts in InDesign. Okay, disactivated font in Suitcase (maybe it needs an update), installed the font in Fontbook, need to get the ad done and I don't have time for this. Verified font works by opening a different file, making a new document, but as soon as I opened the ad with the missing the fonts, fonts go missing. I then changed the fonts to a different family, and tried changing them back, but the font doesn't even show in the list of fonts. I can't figure out why this particular method of copy and paste breaks the font. I've opened and created other files with this font family active, while this copy/paste file is open at the same time in another tab while it still says "no". The only work around I could use was to copy the entire packaged folder from the server to my desktop and just change the document properties to the size I need, then adjust the artwork to fit.
I'd like to find a resolution as to why copying and pasting broke this font even though the same missing font works fine simultaneously in a different document. Any suggestions/questions/thoughts/solutions would be very welcome.
    System specs:
    27" iMac (Mid-2011) 3.1 GHz i5
    32 GB RAM
    1 GB Video
    10.10.2
    Adobe InDesign CS6 8.1
Update: Looking through the font list, Franklin is being listed as a different font. Though the character palette, the font selected is ITC Franklin Gothic Std Book; the font listed in the Type drop-down menu is Myriad Pro, and once that was deactivated, Helvetica.

i don't see how that could be the case because I originally installed the font, created and packaged the ad, and the font is available for typesetting in a new document while this problematic document is open without being connected to the server.
I upgraded to creative cloud 2014 and this particular document is still a problem. This font issue is limited to this sole document. I'm guessing it has something to do with the copy and pasting. Tomorrow, I'll try replacing the font to something else and then copy/pasting it in the same way if it recreates the same problem with a different font.

  • Indesign missing fonts, please help!

    Hi!
    i
I just switched from windows 8 to a mac mini. I had indesign CC trial on the PC and now that I switched to a mac fonts are missing n my document. Both versions of indesign were up to date. How do I get my fonts back please help. The font I really need is called "Onyx"
I dont know why the fonts were working on the PC using the same indesign trial but on the Mac i download the indesign trial the font is missing. Please help!!!!!!

    On behalf of Adobe ...
Onyx is not a font provided by Adobe with InDesign or any of the Creative Suite or Creative Cloud offerings. It is installed on your Windows system when you install Microsoft Office.
Likewise, if you have licensed and Installed Microsoft Office on your Macintosh, Onyx is installed on your system.
If you have not licensed and installed Microsoft Office on your Macintosh, you can license the font at http://www.fonts.com/family/248141/onyx.

  • Missing Fonts InDesign 5.5 WIN

InDesign 5.5 WIN create problems with the fonts when I open a file from version 5.0. The font-installation in the windows font-folder is ok. The fonts are there, but InDesign doesn´t find it. Funny: When I create a new file, I can fix the "missing" font. It works well. Where is the problem?
