InDesign CC on OSX 10.9 text missing when typing fast

When typing at my usual pace InDesign will lag and miss three/four letters of what I typed and when I go back through I find a multitude of errors in my text. Any ideas?

Type slower??
This happens to me too occasionally. Have not been able to figure out why. If I noticed the cursor lagging I just wait a few secs and then it usually catches up before I've made any major errors. I do check each paragraph as I go, though...just because of this lag.

  • Text invisible when typing in online web forms

    Just recently when typing into text fields on web forms, my text is invisible. For example, I had a little trouble registering for this help service as I could not see what I was typing. The cursor is visible and moving, but no text is visible. This does not happen on my other browsers and didn't happen in Firefox until very recently. I notice however that this form I am currently typing in is ok; I guess it has different coding behind it.
    Another problem that started around the same time - when I go back to previous page, it doesn't go back to last position but puts me back at the top of the page. Don't know if this is related.

    This is more likely a font problem (missing or corrupted) then an encoding issue.
    Try to disable the website fonts as a test and try a few different default (serif/sans-serif) fonts.<br />
    Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced ([ ] Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above)<br />
    If that works then you need to reinstall the corrupted font.

  • Auto orientation only in landscape modes, text centering when typing

    Hi,
    I have two problems:
    1. I don't want to rotate my app when device is in portrait position, only flip it horizontal when it is rotated to another landscape position
    2. Text is not centered when typing into input textfield with centered text (but it is ok after confirming).
    Any help would be very appreciated!
    Thanks!

    I've had to solve this problem (#1), and there are many aspects and difficulties to it. I wrote up a long email about the problem, which I'll paste here. Hope you can follow along!:
    I’ve wanted to do autorotate landscape only, and thought that I only had the choice of either autorotate to all four orientations, or no autorotate at all, but I just looked into it, and through reading three different topics here, I managed to do achieve everything I wanted. So I’ll write it up here in case someone else doesn’t have as much luck searching through the old messages.
    In my particular case I have two reasons to want to be landscape: 1. The design is a landscape one, and not one that can easily be rearranged into a portrait mode. 2. We have gameplay that involves tilting the device, and although it’s fine tuned to work in a narrow range of tilting, people keep on tilting so much that the portrait mode kicks in. With the right kind of game, you could really lose your marbles when that happens!
    Those problems can be solved by not autorotating, and finding a way to force landscape. But then that runs into another issue. If it worked that way, an iPad version would be rejected by Apple.
    There are several problems to solve (which I think also apply to Android):
    Autorotate without allowing normal or upside down portrait.
    Make it be landscape from the start even if the user is holding it in portrait as they open the app (setting that in publishing doesn’t achieve the goal).
    Allow someone to change their mind about which landscape they want to use.
    Here’s the way to solve the first issue:
    stage.addEventListener(StageOrientationEvent.ORIENTATION_CHANGING, orientationChangeListener);
    function orientationChangeListener(e:StageOrientationEvent) {
    if (e.afterOrientation=="default"||e.afterOrientation=="upsideDown") {
    e.preventDefault();
    Once you’re in normal landscape, you can only be in normal landscape or upside down landscape. The Portraits are prevented from happening, because StageOrientationEvent.ORIENTATION_CHANGING happens before the autorotate kicks in.
    Making it be landscape from the start can be done like this:
    stage.setOrientation(StageOrientation.ROTATED_RIGHT);
    but that would only work well for the majority. People who like to hold the device in the upside down landscape would be frustrated. So that can be taken care of by looking at which way the device is at the time the app is opened. Also, as it may initially be in Portrait (because the user doesn’t yet know that your app is landscape designed), you have to decide with landscape to give them. I reason that giving them the normal landscape would be the safer bet. That all comes out as these lines:
    var startOrientation:String=stage.orientation;
    if (startOrientation=="default"||startOrientation=="upsideDown") {
    stage.setOrientation(StageOrientation.ROTATED_RIGHT);
    } else {
    stage.setOrientation(startOrientation);
    That’s nearly all the problems solved, but there’s one last one, which I’ll log a bug about (once there is an iPhone beta again). If you open the app in rotatedright and then change your mind to want to use it as rotatedleft, the autorotate works wonderfully. Unfortunately, if you start in rotatedleft and then want to use rotatedright, the autorotate does not work, no matter how many contortions you do. You have to quit the app and hold it in portrait or rotateright from the start.
    This turns out to be easily worked around, by doing the counterintuitive step of setting Portrait in publishing settings. Then when you tell it to be one of the landscapes by doing stage.setOrientation, the app can tell that going from rotatedleft to rotateright is a change of rotation, because it already got kick started with a change away from the default setting of Portrait.

  • Text Missing when using PDF Convert but OK when using print PDF

    I am using Acrobat Pro 9 in Wnidows 7 and Microsoft Publisher 2003.
    When I use the CONVERT command to create a PDF - it is missing all of the text on the master page.
    If I create the PDF with the PRINT command - everything is OK.
    PS: The same Publisher File on another computer using Acrobat Pro 8 works fine -  CONVERT or PRINT and no missing text
    I prefer to use convert because sometimes the PRINT command drops some of the hyperlinks.

    You're posting in the wrong forum, but you already know that...
    In any case, if you're running XP (you didn't supply any info about your environment, which is critical), there's a Microsoft HotFIX patch for PostScript printers such as Acrobat to fix the missing text problem. Do a Google for "Framemaker hotfix missing text" to locate the patch.

  • Text missing when printing PDF

    We're having a problem with printing PDFs to our networked large format Canon ipf8000 printer from our Mac Pros. We have two Mac Pros, both are having the same problem. When printing a PDF through Acrobat Pro that we have created using either from Adobe Illustrator or Adobe InDesign, that contains live text information (font's are embedded as the applications do this by default when saving a PDF), none of the text will print. All graphics and images will print but text will not.
    This initially started off as an issue where the printer would print some characters incorrectly, then this progressed to printing complete gobbledygook, to not printing any text at all.
    We had thought that it may be a printer driver problem, but we recently just bought a new printer (same model, just an updated version ipf8300), and installed the new drivers for it and this issue still occurs on this machine.
    Converting the text to outline before saving the PDF and sending it to print is the only solution we have found so far to get the text to print.
    I have tried printing the same document from a PC, again using Acrobat Pro, and it has gone through completely fine, all text is present and correct, which leads us to believe it is a Mac related issue and not a printer related one.
    Has anyone else experienced this or know of a fix for the problem, other than what we are doing currently?

  • Text missing when saving GIF

    Hi,
    When saving a GIF the white text is disappearing from the dark background. All other layers are visible still. I have saved GIF's without text and have had no problems. Any ideas to resolve this are greatly appreciated.
    I'm using the latest build of PS CC only, no plugins, on a Windows 7 based machine.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Here are a couple of images. The first shows the file in PS CC with the first changed frame added, while thye second shows the same in the 'save for web' screen.
    I have only had this problem while using text in GIF's. Animated images save with no problems.
    Thanks.

  • Handwritten text missing when I create pdf from word document

    I have signed (as 'ink') a word document when using a tablet PC.  When I convert the document to a pdf, the handwritten signature has disappeared.  How can I stop this please?  It is not a digital signature.

    Please indicate the versions of WORD and Acrobat. Also, tell us just how you are creating the PDF. It may be that Deepak's suggestion works, but he has also made an assumption about how you are creating the PDF.

  • Text lags when typing in discussion forums

    While typing an entry in a discussion forum, in this case ''topix.net'', the displayed text will lag far behind the typing. Every so often it will "burp" = the display will refresh, the cursor will jump to catch up, and will leave out anything typed in the interim, causing one to have to go back and insert corrections.
    I can do the same task in IE, and there is no lag, so it is obvioulsy a FF issue. I'm "guessing" it has something to do with the spellcheck function? If I could turn that off, I could confirm.

    The two major causes of this are moving the frame over or next to an object to which text wrap is applied, or specifying that the text should align to the baseline grid and there is no grid line within the bounds of the frame (the frame is not tall enough to span the baseline grid).

  • Still have the first letter missing when typing in forms

    Thought this may have been fixed in 10.5. Anybody else experiencing the same thing?
    MBP 2.4

    I was using Firefox, not IE. Yes, all keys seemed to work just fine, as well as the keyboard and mouse, which made it so weird and hard to figure out. But it was all the mouse. I guess it had cancer.

  • Dots are missing when typing in safari

    Hello
    My boss brought a brand new desktop. When he is typing a web address in safari ( for example www.hotmail.com) he is able to type full url with dot but after pressing enter it's coming like wwwhotmailcom
    And it's throwing error. Any help would appreciate.
    Regards
    Akther

    This problem is has to do with "security" (AKA file permissions) for some of the VAB files. I am not aware of what may have caused the problem. As the USER check to see what problem files exist. Then as the ADMINISTRATOR check the "Security" tab in the file's properties and you'll find that the USER is unable to modify/read/see/etc that file. Changing the setting to match one of the "OK" DLL block files should correct the problem. Alternatively you can run the command line script that the installer runs: cacls "C:\Program FIles\Hyperception\VABINF" /T /E /G Everyone:F Assuming you installed in the default directory, you should be able to drop to a command prompt and issue this command. It will scroll the name of every file in the given directory and all subdirectories. It should reset every file.

  • Email printed to PDF, PDF appears accurate in Acrobat XI Pro, when PDF printed to paper text missing

    HELP!!!
    I have text disappear from Outlook emails printed to PDF when I print the PDF files from Acrobat XI Pro to a printer.
    Here is a sample png from the PDF file printed out of Outlook - all the text is showing.
    However when I print the PDF from Acrobat to a printer, the document comes out of the printer with text missing as shown:
    The Acrobat print window shows all of the text that should be there as does Acrobat's view of the document.
    Also, if I save the file to an image, all of the text is there.
    I have tried different emails as well as different printers and the paper printed copies of the PDF emails are always missing text.
    Additionally I have tried coverting the PDF file to a PDF/A file and printing that and the same problems occur.
    Please send some tips as to how I can fix this!

    Hello Atul -
    i am having similar printing issues with Acrobat 10.1.4.
    in my case both PDFs made by me (from InDesign files) and other PDFs made elsewhere and sent to me are missing text when printed to paper -though they look fine both on-screen and in the preview pane, as Katy noted above.
    these PDFs print fine when i open and print from an older version of Acrobat (9.5.2).
    they will also print fine from 10.1.4 if i send them to another printer in the office, (a Dell Color Laser 3110cn), the printer i have a problem with is a Kyocera Mita KM-5053 - which leads me to believe that this is some kind of communication error between Adobe Acrobat Pro 10.1.4 and this printer, or perhaps a driver issue. ?
    I don't believe it's merely a preferences/print settings problem as i've gone pretty carefully through all the dialog boxes that seem relevant and have had no luck in solving the problem. Also, the text that's missing seems arbitraty - meaning, it's not merely hyperlinks or certain layers or text in specific type faces that won't print -it's content in the same text box, where other text does print, and it's blacks and colors and various point sizes - in short there are no easily discernable unifying circumstances among the text that does not print.
    obvioulsy an easy work around is to just print to the other printer or use the older version of Acrobat, but my concern is more that other people may be experiencing the same issues with PDFs i send them. so if it is a problem in the way i'm generating PDFs (although, as i said, text is also missing from PDFs i have received from other people and printed) i'd like to fix it quickly, so that people trying to print my PDFs don't end up with critical content missing.
    i'm on a 2008 MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5, and using the Acrobat (X Pro v 10.1.4) that came with the CS6 Design & Web Premium package - although i'm looking at it online now and it's listed as Acrobat XI Pro..
    any input you have would be much appreciated.
    thank you,
    bethany

  • Text missing from PDF

    I am a long-time and very experienced user of FrameMaker, Acrobat, and all associated tools. My XP-SP2 system is thoroughly debugged and fully updated.
    When I create PDFs in Frame, sections of the text come up missing. The document remains correctly formatted and organized - there are simply missing sentences, paragraphs, etc. in no discernible pattern. I have tried every fix I can think of and all those I have found by searching online - to no avail.
    These documents are created from scratch in Frame 7.2p158; I have updated the installation at least once without solving the problem. The PDFs are being created by every known process: print to Distiller (7.0) within Frame; Save As PDF; print to generic PostScript and pass to Distiller. The missing text remains consistent within all processes.
    The fonts involved range from junk of unknown origin to (most of my fonts) true Adobe Postscript. Changing fonts does not cure the problem, although it sometimes changes which parts disappear. There is no particularly complex formatting involved (no equations, no unusual character overrides). These documents are mostly contracts and other simple but rigidly formatted documents. None involve imported graphics.
    I have tried all variations of saving to MIF and RTF and re-importing. This sometimes changes the faults, but does not cure them.
    This problem occurs ONLY with FrameMaker. I can export perfect PDFs, some from very complex source documents, from Word, InDesign, CorelDRAW and a dozen other tools, using any fonts on my system.
    (I am dismayed at how hard Adobe support has gotten to use - as the owner of nine of their most expensive apps, I should be able to get better online support without calling in and begging permission!)
    If anyone can point me to a known bug, a known fix, or a good starting point for unraveling this problem - or confirm that they've seen a similar error - I would appreciate it!

    Sherman - I've tried every possible path from FrameMaker document to PDF, including hand-cranked processes using a variety of PS print drivers and reducing the resolutions to dot-matrix levels. The fix is very hit-or-miss.
    Bernd - your situation is similar to mine. I finally got my critical document to print by using a different PS driver (a Xerox RIP, can't recall exactly which model at this moment.) Then I went to print out a companion document a few days later... same round of problems that I could not fix.
    So I went to reinstall Frame 6 on my system... and ran into the "too much memory" problem. I reset the virtual memory down to ridiculous levels (100 MB) and still got errors.
    So - I installed Frame 6 on my new system, a dual-Opteron monster with not 2GB, but 4GB of RAM. Perhaps it's the better memory management of that system (with Windows XP64) but I had no problem and printed the document (via print to PS and manual processing to PDF) just fine.
    Then I zipped up the Frame 6 installation and dumped it on the older system, where it works fine except for the persistent registry warnings - which I'll fix when I have a moment. However, THE SAME DOCUMENT, when saved from Frame 7.2 into v6 format, and opened in Frame 6, caused the same missing-text problems through several approaches.
    I might be stating the obvious, but this is a major, major bug and it lies wholly within Adobe's product circle. It should not have existed with the final release or at least should have been fixed early on... yet here we are more than a year into it with no fix in sight (except a crappy, half-effective workaround).
    And I have discovered, to my frustration and dismay, that InDesign makes a very poor substitute for Frame when doing long documents. Part of it was unfamiliarity with things like flowing text over multiple pages, but after an hour's work I still had nothing that looked like my relatively simple Frame document... and I had to spend two hours on the above process to get the stupid thing to PDF so I could get it to the client.
    I realize FrameMaker is a minor product and an unwanted stepchild, without the glitz, glamor and recognition of Photoshop or Premiere, but really, Adobe... this clusterf*ck is beneath you!

  • IMac 20-inch on OSX 10.7.4 running iphoto 11, my photos from my iphoto library have been deleted. I have time machine but the iphoto library file is missing when I access time machine, help please.

    I have an imac 20-inch Late 2006 model on OSX 10.7.4 running iphoto 11, somehow the application ccleaner has deleted my photos from my iphoto library. I have time machine but the iphoto library file is missing when I access time machine.
    To restore photos I have followed the steps below
    Quit iPhoto.
    Connect your Time Machine drive.
    In the Finder, open the folder containing your iPhoto Library. Unless you've moved your iPhoto Library, it can be found in Home/Pictures/iPhoto Library.
    Enter Time Machine.  (Time Machine can be found in the Dock or in the /Applications folder.)
    Choose your desired backup. The timeline on the right side of the screen displays a purple tick mark for each of the backups stored on your Time Machine drive.
    Select the iPhoto library you would like to restore, and click the Restore button.
    I dont get the option in step 6 as I dont have an iphoto library file to choose? Does anyone know why?

    Hi Barry
    Thanks but as mentioned all is intact, even at step 3 I can see the current library in Home/Pictures/iPhoto Library which has no photos, but when I access time machine any point before the NOW option the iphoto library in Home/Pictures/iPhoto Library is missing from the finder window.
    As you can see here it is
    and now its gone. I have no explanantion.
    How do I go about moving this question as you suggested.
