InDesign CC package "Incomplete" font

Ever since upgrading to Windows 8.1 and InDesign CC the package function shows all non-system fonts as "Incomplete."
For example, Minion Pro Regular shows Filename: C:\Windows\Fonts\MinionPro-regular.otf and Status: OK however my activated Univers LT Std shows Filename: NA and Status: Incomplete
I use FontAgent Pro 4.1 (latest version) for font management. All fonts, aside from default Adobe/Windows system fonts are saved in the folder C:\Users\MyUserName\AppData\FontAgent Pro Data\FontAgent Pro\Libraries\Fonts. As far as I can tell this folder cannot be changed and is created by the program when importing fonts to your library. Previous versions of InDesign while running on Windows 7 packaged fine while activating fonts with FontAgent Pro, so not sure if this is a new incompatibility with Windows 8.1, InDesign CC or FontAgent Pro.
Any known solutions or work-arounds? Thanks for any help!

According to their web page, FAP 4.1 for Windows was updated to support Windows 7 and CS5 (and there are newer versions for Mac). I'd say they aren't too interested in Windows users at this point and if you want a font manager you need to look elsewhere.

  • "Incomplete font" warning when packaging a file in InDesign CS5.5?

When I package a file, any fonts that appear with an "incomplete font" warning, are not collected. But these fonts aren't incomplete at all—I have installed them from the file that I purchased from Linotype (Helvetica Neue). Can someone please tell me how to make this warning go away and have InDesign recognise that the font is in fact complete?

"Helvetica Neue" ... are you working on a Mac?
I'm asking this because Mac OS X comes with a Helvetica Neue installed -- in fact it's part of the required System set. But Apple decided the font was not good enough as it was, and made a couple of changes to it to make it work "better", and in doing so they broke a couple of things that fonts need to get printed correctly. So everyone's advice is to steer well away from using the System version of Helvetica Neue on a Mac.
Which brings me back to your assertion

as I suggest you very carefully and thouroughly double- then triple-check that you are, in fact, using your own Helvetica Neue instead of the system one.

  • InDesign CC / Cloud Fonts - Incomplete Font warning, does not export font when Packaging?

I'm using a new font from the creative cloud.  I  packaged my project and the fonts showed "incomplete fonts" and then didn't export the font, into the font folder, when packaging.  There is an AdobeFnt15.lst file in the fonts folder, which I'm not sure about?  If this is the case, how will I deliver my project to my printer when it is finished?

If you downloaded Typekit fonts from the Creative Cloud (the ones available from the Fonts menu in the Creative Cloud Desktop app), they are not packaged. They are only licensed to Creative Cloud subscribers or Typekit subscribers. They can be embedded in a PDF file or in an EPUB file or in a DPS project.
So you have two options: (1) Given the popularity of the Creative Cloud, your printer should have at least one CC subscription, then they can download  the fonts you're using. In fact, it's a relatively automatic process and I describe in the linked blog post below; or (2) you can create a PDF file they can print from.

  • InDesign CC won't package my fonts?

The program says it "can not copy necessary fonts" even after I go back through and find all the fonts in the document.
My version of InDesign is up to date.
    Operating system is 10.8.4
I can't think of what else to do...

Fairfield LH and Myriad Pro (about 12 fonts total in the document)
These are Adobe font folio 11 fonts that i own and have used trouble-free
    for about 4 years.
If I open a new document, type some type, and format it with Fairfield and
    Myriad, InDesign collects them.
If I copy and paste a line of type from the troublesome document into this
new document (that did collect), it won't collect them now.
    Hmmm.
Wondering how I can tell InDesign CC where these font files are, so it will
    grab them...

  • OT: Packaging Photoshop Fonts

Okay, this is a little off-topic, but I'm updating a poster that someone created here in the past. They created it in Photoshop, and it has about 8 billion layers. I'll recreate it in InDesign when I have the time, but one thing I would like to do (for now) is to gather up all its fonts and keep them with the file (it took me a while to locate and install one of the fonts I needed to open this Photoshop file correctly). Is there anything similar to Package in Photoshop? I tried placing the Photoshop file in InDesign and then packaging it, but it ignores the Photoshop file's fonts. How do I find all the fonts? Is there a Photoshop option for that? I have the file working okay for now -- I just want to avoid problems in the future if I get a new computer or something.
I have no idea why this file was created in Photoshop as InDesign would have been a much better choice. But whatever. It's not the first messed up file I've had to work with.
    Thanks, Phyllis

Yes, FlightCheck can collect or package Photoshop fonts. Just wanted to add this postscript, to make it clear. Thank you @macinbytes
Here is an admitted long-winded video quick-tip on how to automatically find and package all used fonts along with a copy of the .PSD file (disclousre: I work for Markzware, the makers of FlightCheck):

  • InDesign CS4 Package/Collect for Output - Missing links problem

I posted this on the PC forum by mistake so I apologise for doubling up on the message for those who have found the same message twice. As far as I know this is a Mac only problem!
Having recently freelanced in 3 design studios since the CS4 release, the Collect for Output problem within InDesign seems to be widespread. I've seen this happen on a range of machines from a G5's to laptops. All have been running the latest version of Leopard.
For some unknown reason any document created in older versions of Indesign that is opened in IndDesign CS4 does not collect all the linked files when it's packaged. All preflight checks are fine, the new live preflight feature shows green light, I even tried re linking all files to a new source folder containing all links and it still only randomly collects one third of the needed linked files with no obvious pattern emerging between the files omitted, i.e clipping paths, colour profiles, file types.
The worst thing is that it happens randomly on documents created fresh in InDesign CS4 as well so I'm having trouble trying to pinpoint where the problem stems from.
This is driving people crazy, and I can see that it's going to be a major pain for numerous design agencies. I hope Adobe sorts this out quick or it's back to CS3 for most of us who charge for our time. I guess I can always send Adobe the bill for the time spent manually collecting all files for a job!!
Please no obvious suggestions on preflight settings as it's happening to people with twenty plus experience in the business.
    Thanks for reading the post.

    Hi JAD the mad,
we have the same problem on our machines here at work regarding the randomness of the Indesign CS4 package function collecting links.
The office has recently upgraded to all new Power Mac G5's with Mac OS X Version 10.5.6. 2x2.8Ghz 4GB RAM, a new server and all new Adobe CS4 packages.
Another user on the forum also has the same problem he said:
    nguyen khanh duy - 7:40am Nov 23, 08 PST (#31 of 67)
I have a problems with my document created with Adobe Indesign CS4.
I can not package the file with its links into a folder. Sometimes a few files are collected, but when I convert all the images into CMYK color space, none of them were collected.
My documents contains 70 links and 140 pages.
So when I need to collect links, I convert the document into CS3 INX file and use Indesign CS3 to collect the links.
I've tried with other document with hundreds of links and all or them are 100 pages. All the links were collected. (offcourse with CS4)
Please help me. Thank you very much
    As for our specific problem,
We have files which do not package all the links properly. Indesign only packages a random amount of the links into the new folder. There seems to be no consistency with regard to file type, size, colour profile or location. The pre-flight shows a green light and this error seems to occur randomly. It is very annoying if we are working on the local hard drive and have links there and on the server and then want to package everything to upload to the server or to work on another computer. We have to find all the links and copy them individually to a new folder.
Saving as with a new file name does not help. Also copying all links to a new folder from the links pallet does not copy all the links. The error is disconcerting due to it's seemingly random occurrence. We have tried all the simple solutions and it seems very much like a bug in the software.
Does anyone else share this problem? It would be great to hear any suggestions or similar stories.
    Regards
    Steve

  • Indesign CC packaging process fails with the error message "Unable to copy necessary file(s)"

When I try to package a file with a lot of links, the Indesign CC packaging process fails with the error message "Unable to copy necessary file(s)". I am able to make a PDF of the same file, but when packaking the process fails every time. The app does not crash, just gives an error message. What gives?
(I'm using a MacBook Pro Retina Display with 16 GB RAM, running OS 10.9 and all CC 9.1 updated with the latest patches).

@John – that's really strange… the thing with the file names depending on the file type. That could eleminate Mavericks a bit from the equation and put the weight more on InDesign CC.
    Provided:
    1. You give it a go with InDesign CS6 v8.0.2 and tests are showing it will work fine in this regard.
    2. The same composite characters are present in both file types, the ai files and the PhotoShop ones. On a Mac OSX characters for files and folders can consist of "composite" components:
ü for example is a two component one: the u and the two dots above the u. On a machine with MS Windows, this is not the case…
InDesign CC was programmed from scratch for a 64 bit architecture. So it could be a severe bug in InDesign CC.
Maybe other readers in this forum could test for these cases…

  • Does Indesign CS4 recognize missing fonts in links?

Could anyone tell me if Indesign CS4 (or any version of Indesign) will recognize missing fonts used in a linked image? We have a customer that is using Indesign CS4 they have linked images from photoshop (no fonts in the photoshop images) and .eps files that were created using Easy Barcode Creator. Indesign is not seeing that the font is missing from the eps file (easy barcode reader), nor is there an error when exporting a PDF or print a PS. Preflight in Indesign doesn't detect this either. If I open the eps in Illustrator then I get a font missing error. I don't want to open all the files (supporting links) to find out if I have missing fonts. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I've been playing with this a little, and I get what you see, too with .eps files. Find font will list the fonts used in the links, but for the most part woen't tell you if they are missing (seems to know they're missing in placed .indd files, though). Not a whole lot of help, but at least it puts the list out front where you can see the fonts, and check to see what doesn't look familiar.
Maybe the scripting guys have some clever ideas.

  • InDesign CS3 replaces unavailable Fonts

    Hi,
we have InDesign CS3 server running. The server renders Preflight PDF. If a layout uses a font that the InDesign Server doesn't know, the InDesign server replaces the unknon font with one he knows.
Is there a way to tell the InDesign CS3 server which font to for replacing an unknown font?
    Thanx for ur kind help.

I am having this same problem with the Windings font and CS3, the bullet (opt-8) does not show properly. The Bullet in Windings looks like a "Target" instead all I get is a rectangle box that is highlighted pink (highlighted pink like when a font is missing..)
The file looks fine in CS2 but doesn't when opened in CS3 on the same computer with the same fonts loaded at the same time (i.e. document is open in CS2 & CS3 side by side).
I can get the character to display properly if I use it as a Bullet (Type-Bulleted & Numbered List.)
The character doesn't display in the window but if you manually ad it as a character then it will display in the document properly where used as a Bullet but still will not display properly if used in just straight typing.
I also removed as many fonts from my system as posable, Windings was the only font activated in Extensis Suitcase Fusion v. 12.1.6. Turning Suitcase off made no difference either...
I did notice that Adobe InDesign CS3 loads fonts from this location when it starts (Library-Application Support-Adobe-fonts), if these fonts are not managed what keeps them from having a font ID conflict with another font? I did remove as many of these fonts as posable and it still made no difference with this problem though.
I had a problem like this with another font but I can't remember now what one. Thought it was a bad font at the time, although the file worked fine in CS2.

  • InDesign not packaging fonts

I have been having this issue for close to 5 months now. Everytime I go to package my files to send off to either people we are outsourcing to or printers, the fonts are not being included. All links are being accounted for but the fonts folder is no where to be found. I thought the issue might be a Quark to InDesign plugin I had installed but after trouble shooting that is no longer the case. I have done two complete uninstalls and reinstalles and still nothing. Can anyone please shed some light on this subject?

    > Including fonts in a package is optional.
And is subject to licensing issue so you'll get a pop up informing you
    of it.

  • Does an "incomplete font" warning make sense for ttf?

    Hi all,
we are getting "font incomplete" errors in the package dialog. According to the online help this "Lists fonts that have a screen font on the current computer but not a corresponding printer font."
Does that even make sense for true types? As far as I know there is no such thing as a separate screen and printer font in ttf.
To make things worse the fonts in question are Georgia and Times New Roman - both are system fonts.
    Specs:
    Windows 7 64 bit SP1
    InDesign 7.04
I can't reproduce this on my machine but that's running 32 bit.
    Should we ignore it?
Any hints appreciated - tried a forum search but didn't find very much.
    Regards,
    Mike

There is no real erro message but a warning in the package dialog (sorry but we are using the German version):
The report doesn't offer much more information:
    SCHRIFTARTEN
    (Nur Probleme anzeigen)
    17 Schriftart(en) verwendet; 0 fehlend, 10 eingebettet, 2 unvollst., 0 geschützt
    - Name: Georgia; Typ: OpenType TrueType, Status: unvollst.
    Dateiname: n. zutr.
    Vollständiger Name: Georgia
    Zuerst verwendet auf Seite: 31
    Geschützt: Nein
    - Name: TimesNewRomanPSMT; Typ: OpenType TrueType, Status: unvollst.
    Dateiname: n. zutr.
    Vollständiger Name: Times New Roman
    Zuerst verwendet auf Seite: 30
    Geschützt: Nein
We actually don't even know where TimesNewRoman comes from - I suspect it's in one of the numerous linked pdf files. But then the dialog should state which files they come from.

  • InDesign CS4 not packing fonts

I'm using InDesign CS4. All of a sudden, a new problem has ocurred. When I package files, the "Fonts" folder is no longer being created with all the fonts used in the file. The "Links" folder is here, but no "Fonts"

Are you sure you haven't converted everything to outlines?
Not sure what else you could try apart from the standard trashing your prefs or cleaning by exporting but if those don't work post this question on the Indesign forum, you'll get far more people answering there.
