InDesign CC Print Progress Window
When printing, the print progress window is above all other applications (Mac OS X 10.7.5). This never happened in the CS versions. It's very annoying when printing a long, complex document with lots of art. You have to keep moving the window around so you can work on something under it. Is this a bug that should be reported?
Adobe is capturing the print progress window and distilling it into my pdf file. When I view the pdf, the print progress screen is in the middle of what would be otherwise a good pdf file. It appears Adobe is distilling what is on the screen directly to a pdf file. How can I keep the print progress screen from appearing when I print to the Adobe pdf printer? This seems to be the easiest way to correct the problem but I have yet to find anything that would turn off the print progress window.

InDesign CS5 print crash on Windows 7
Howdy, occasionally some files in InDesign CS5 crash when I try to print them... The office has recently upgraded from CS2/Win XP to CS5/Win 7. Not sure if that has anything to do with the problem but usually persistence pays off and eventually InDesign will print the document after a number of restarts of the software and/or the machine. Weird things happen along the way too like all my print settings will disappear, which force a restart or simply crash InDesign aswell.
The details that pop up when InDesign crashes are below - not sure if anyone can make heads or tails of it. If anyone has seen this before and has any suiggestions they'd be greatly appreciated, it's very frustrating...

Why won't Indesign recognize my printer under Windows 7?
I have reinstalled InDesign on my new computer under Windows 7 and it won't recognize my HP printer. On selecting the Print option, it lists the printer, but won't print It previously worked fine under XP. Can anybody advise me? Is it a compatibility issue or do I need any special drivers? .
I am using Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Standard
Thanks
Karon.KarrieKat,
Will another program, other than InDesign, recognize your printer? Are you able to print a Windows 7 Print Test Page? Have you installed the drivers certified for Windows 7 as specified by HP? Prior to migrating to Windows 7 from Windows XP did you run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor?
To determine if your current computer configuration will be compatible with Windows 7 please go to the following link: http://tinyurl.com/no4xb7
Another resource to verify compatibility is available at the Microsoft Windows 7 Compatibility Center located at the following link: http://bit.ly/1gW6Ns
Also, should you require additional assistance and feedback Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams.

Print Progress Dialog box always stays on top
Since upgrading to InDesign CC I have noticed that all print progress dialog boxes stay on top of all windows, even after switching apps. I find this highly annoying and want it to go away. Is there a preference I can change to make it NOT be on top, especially when I've switched to a different application?
(I am OP, having account issues)
Trashing preferences wouldn't help if it is a default behavior, which I think this is since it's been happening since the beginning with CC. I was wondering if this was a behavior that I can change with a preference or if I'm just stuck with it. -
CS4 InDesign not printing correctly on HP1320 LaserJet for 2-sided booklets
I'm trying to print chapters in a book, using 2-sided printing from CS4 InDesign (V 6.0.4) to an HP1320 LaserJet printer using an iMac computer. This used to work with CS InDesign (V 3.0.1) using a Dell PC and the same printer. The page prints on both sides, but is limited to 8.5 inches of the 11 in side. [My pages are 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 with two pages on one side of the page; when finished, the book is 5 1/2" by 8.5".] I've tried lots of combinations of page orientation in both the InDesign File/Print Booklet/Print Settings.../Setup and in the File/Print Booklet/Print Settings.../Printer... but nothing seems to solve this. Any suggestions? Thanks.

You need to be sure the print dialog is set up to print the pages in landscape orientation.
-=-=-=-=-
I'd be happy to try. Here are the steps I take, but you should realize that I've done this so many times over the past several days (up to a couple of weeks) that I try different things each time.
I've got a couple of book projects that use similar formats. One is a textbook and the second is a daily log I keep (not always "daily"). Both are printed and bound to become books that are on the order of 400 to 500 pages and are 8.5" by 5.5" in size. So, I have a file I want to print and I want it to come out with side-by-side 5.5 x 8.5" pages (two on each side of an 8 1/2 by 11 inch sheet of paper (i.e., two sided printing).
In InDesign, I click on File, Print Booklet..., and here is what the window looks like: [see attached file "Screen shot 2009-12-02 at 5.51.44 PM.pgn.]
To get it to show "Booklet Type: 2-up Saddle Stitch," I had to click on "Print Settings" at the bottom and select "Setup" and then "Orientation: landscape (2nd from the left on the choice of four orientations)." I also usually go to "Page Setup..." and make sure I chose "Orientation: landscape."
Then I go to the "Printer..." button at the bottom of the "Print" window and select things so it looks like this: [see attached file "Screen shot 2009-12-02 at 5.57.44 PM.pgn.]
To get this, I had to click on the "Layout" option and then "Booklet Printing." That automatically selected "Two-Sided" printing.
As far as choices go, I think that is it.
The page that printed most recently with those settings came out with four (not two) pages on each side of the page. Further, the four pages that printed on the back side of the sheet of paper were upside down relative to those on the front side. This may be the result of using "2-up Saddle Stitch" but I'm not sure of that.
But here is the problem that has really been bugging me: the pages on one side of the paper don't go as far toward the margin as they should. Here is one example of low-res pictures of the front of the page that printed.
The page shows two full "pages" along the left top and right top, but along the left and right bottom pages, only about half of the pages printed. The back side of the sheet of paper was similar, with only half of the "pages" showing for two of the four pages on this side.
So, I hope this is enough information for you. I'd be happy to provide more if needed. And thank you for even attempting to help. I've been struggling with this issue for a couple of weeks (I'm retired, so I sure don't spend full time on it, but I sure have spent hours at it, all to no avail). -

when using my apple notebook all works fineHi jnda,
Since you can print from the Apple notebook but not from the Windows 8, I suggest using the HP Print and Scan Doctor. If InDesign's "Print Booklet" feature isn't doing what you want, please try the "Booklet SC 5.0" script (formerly "Booklet CE").
Unlike Print Booklet, Booklet SC doesn't force you to print ... instead, it creates a new InDesign document whose pages are in the proper "saddle stitch" (or perfect bound) order. This allows you to print wherever and whenever you want, or convert to PDF. Also unlike Print Booklet, graphics which span the reader spreads are handled properly.
Booklet SC optionally creates cut marks / printer marks on the output printer spreads, giving additional prepress flexibility.
Booklet SC should still work with earlier versions of InDesign, back to CS2 or so, and up through CS5, Mac and Windows.
http://sterlingcomputing.com
(Note: after 3 usages, Booklet SC starts to nag you every third time to send $10, to support my espresso habit, reward me for spending all that time writing and testing this complex script, encourage me to keep the script up to date, and help me to know who is using the script. If you cannot afford the $10, you can either live with the nagging, or continue your struggle with Print Booklet.)
The main dialog:
With an 8-page booklet, the pages are reordered like this:Hi Stephen,
Nice looking dialog. I added [Ann.] to the title to make it clear what this post is.
BTW, the dialog looks like it's a Script UI one. That will not work in CS2. Do you have a more basic dialog for CS2, or is this only for CS3-CS5?

Adobe InDesign CS4 Printing To 11 x 18 Issues
I am trying to print an 11 x 18 in Adobe InDesign CS4 however, it will print automatically to an 8.5 x 11. I have tried to set the printing preferences but It defaults back to 8.5 x 11. This issue only happens in InDesign and not other Adobe products. My operating system is Windows 7 64-bit and the printer is a Toshiba E-Studio 3530C. Could this be a pnnter driver issue with Adobe InDesign CS4.
Try this: go into the print driver (the "Setup..." button at the bottom of InDesign's print dialog box) and set your custom paper size there. Then, back in the InDesign dialog, set the Paper Size to "Defined By Driver."

Printing from Windows 8 to a shared printer on a Windows 7 machine
WE have a a user that has a laser printer on A windows 7 machine that others in the office can access EXCEPT the one person on a Windows 8 machine. We have tried everything, but cannot get her to print to this printer. Says it cannot be found. What does
Windows 8 need to see a printer on a Win 7 workstation. She does have access to network printers and her own.
Thanks. We have the same kind of problem but a bit different.
Dell Printer (used for years shared on a network) was moved to our Windows 7 machine plugged in via USB. We only use a plain workgroup with no Domain as we also have Macs on the network.
I have Macs using shared printer, a Windows XP using the shared printer, and even Windows 7 under Parallels on the Macs using the shared printer no problem.
I had the lone Windows 8 laptop using the shared printer but then it just stopped working. So I deleted it and now when I try to add it is want credentials and none work. It will not connect to the shared printer on the Windows 7 machine.
I have Windows 7 (which also has a couple shared drives that do work) set for No Homegroup and No Password for sharing - pretty much open as we are behind a Cisco Firewall to the outside. No firewalls on the pcs.
Not sure where to go from here... -

Unable to debug indesign cs5 plugin in windows
Hi, again. Originaly posted here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/766469?tstart=0
We are having some problems with an indesign sc5 plugin, it works perfectly in macosx but in windows it causes indesign to crash. Anyway after some trouble shooting we tried running it in debug indesign. Problem is that the debug version of indesign wont even start, it fezzes in the splash screen on "Registering xxx plug-ins". It hangs before we can write anything in log files and thatching a debugger gives nothing. Closer inspections
revealed that all the indesign treads is in "waiting" state. Waiting for what? Don't know. Killing one of the threads allows indesign to start but it will not have loaded the plugin and we are back on square one unable to debug.
Anyway I installed the osx version of debug indesign and starting it gives an assert like:
No translation of key 'com.adobe.rc.operationalmessages' to British string.
BreakStrToDebugger
ASSERT_FUNC
Examining the stack of the indesign main thread in windows gives pretty much the same thing:
0, ntkrnlpa.exe!KiDeliverApc+0xb3
1, ntkrnlpa.exe!ZwYieldExecution+0x19ae
2, ntkrnlpa.exe!NtWaitForSingleObject+0x9a
3, ntkrnlpa.exe!KeReleaseInStackQueuedSpinLockFromDpcLevel+0xb14
4, ntdll.dll!KiFastSystemCallRet
5, kernel32.dll!WaitForSingleObject+0x12
6, PMRuntime.dll!ClientShowAssert+0x8d
7, PMRuntime.dll!BreakStrToDebugger+0x15
8, PMRuntime.dll!ASSERT_FUNC+0x117
9, NETAPI32.dll+0xbe86972
(as reported by the ProcessHacker process viewer)
So the win version is trying to show an assert window but fails, locking indesign in the splash screen? Stoping indesign before any plugin execution?
As we cant get any debug information out we don really know what the problem is, making it rather hard to debug. We have triple checked the build and linking options. Studied the plugin exports. Inserted an ridiculous amount of trace statements in the code, doesn't work in the debug version but anyway.
Have anyone had a problem like this or know what might cause it?
What happens in the indesign startup process, what does the “Registering plug-ins” actually do? It's not executing any plugin functions and the the initialization of the plugins doesn't happen until later. You are correct in that none pf the plug-in code is executed during the "Registering ### plug-ins" phase. What is done here is simply loading the plugins by reading from their resource definitions. For example, if you try to load a CS4 plug-in in InDesign CS5 or if you try to load a release plug-in in debug version you will get errors and popups here and your plugin will not load and be available (these are just example errors and may not be relevant to your case). As far as I know InDesign should not crash just because there is a problem with your plugin, but there could be bugs.
I would recommend:
1. Remove your plugins and verify that InDesign debug starts properly without any 3rd party extensions.
2. Compile one of the SDK sample plugins (debug target) and make sure that InDesign still starts properly.
3. Create a new project using DollyXs, compile it and make sure it loads in InDesign.
4. Remove the template files and add your own source files except the basic .fr file and make sure it still loads in InDesign.
5. Keep changing things one at a time in your .fr file and verify it still loads until it looks exactly like your original .fr file.
Good luck.
Note: "No translation of key 'XXX' to British string." errors is in general quite harmless. It's only a problem with the string translation and should only affect string output in menus/dialogs etc. They should of course be fixed, but can generally be ignored for a while unless an infinite ASSERT loop prevents you from debugging. -
Error Installing InDesign CS3 Server on Windows Server 2008 R2 64BIT
Hello there-
I'm trying to install InDesign CS3 Server on Windows Server 2008 R2 64BIT (x64) Edition, however, we get a failure indication on the installer. Before, we have installed it properly on Windows Server 2008 R2 32BIT (x32) but some how we cannot proceed on a x64 box.
Is there any limitation on this sense? Any documentation about it?
Thanks and appreciate your answers.

larger than 30 MB. This is a default limitation of IIS. You can increase the maximum file size by
setting the parameter maxAllowedContentLength in the file ApplicationHost.config.
The following command can be used to set the parameter from the command prompt, please
change the directory to Windows\System32\inetserv and then execute the command.
appcmd setconfig /section:requestFiltering/requestLimits.maxAllowedContentLength:150000000
