Indesign CC problem with rules

I am used to work with paragraph rules when I have to to highlight text in documents.
Now, in InDesign CC, I have to deal with a strange problem – trying to select the characters in text, the selection is visible in another place. The characters, however, are indeed selected, but it can not be seen correctly.
Here is what I do step by step:
1. write a line of text
2. apply paragraph rule so that it covers the text entirely (for example, for 10pt text I would make rule about 20pt thick)
3. change the left indent to any value but zero and/or change the paragraph alignment to centred or flush right.
Now, if I try to select the text characters the text is selected as if it would still be left aligned with no indent. It means, I can not know if I have selected the text correctly. (I even tested this by selecting the text and then setting the indent to zero and alignment to left, and then the selection is in the correct place.)
I have tried to "cure" this via idml file, but it gives no result. Even when trying this in new document it makes the same problem.
My guess is that this is in some way concerned with fact that InDesign in Mac now uses system-wide text selection.
I have InDesign CC 9.1 on Mac OS X 10.8.5

Problem with rules in mail.app

I've just started having a problem with my rules in mail.app that I just don't understand. I have several rules that I've had working for quite a while now, over a year. All of a sudden beginning about a month ago, some of them -- different ones at different times -- stop working and the incoming mail goes into my main mail box and don't get distributed according to the rules to the appropriate mail boxes.
When I check the rules, all of which are basically the same: If any of the following conditions are met, From contains XXX, Perform the following actions: Move message to mailbox xxx, I see that mailbox XXX has changed from what it should be to some other mailbox name which is a valid name but not the one that I originally put in the rule.
To make it a bit more strange, the rule with the wrong mailbox name is not executed and the mail winds up in my main mailbox.
When I edit the rule and change the mailbox name and am asked whether I want to apply the rule and I respond yes, the rule executed and the mail that landed in the main mailbox gets distributed the way it should.
But then anywhere from a day to a week later the same thing happens, that is, the mailbox name in the rule somehow gets changed again.
Has anyone seen this behavior before and/or have any suggestions for fixing it?

Are you really on 10.8.1 as per your profile - maybe updating to 10.8.3 might help.
Have you tried rebuilding the mailbox? It sometimes helps sort out Mail problems:

Indesign CS5 - Problems with PDF-Export

Hello community,
we do have a problem with Indesign CS5 and exporting data into PDF. It is about that logo on that white surface, which doesnt come along with the rest after the pdf-export. What we did was: We created that white surface in Indesign itself, put an effect on it with the Indesign effect gallery and then imported the logo in the surface ... the logo itself is .psd data. So, if we export it into pdf like that, it is just dissapeared. Does anyone have had a similar problem and what can be done about it?
By the way ... if you put, for example, a simple backgroundshadow on a picture ... done also with the Indesign effect gallery, then you get just a white surface instead of the shadow, after the export into pdf. It does maybe correlate with the other problem ... not sure. Any suggestions?

I would create the entire logo, including the white background, in Illustrator, save as PDF and place that in ID.

Problem with rules after migration

After migration of some mailboxes from Exchange 2007 to 2010 we have a problem managing rules. When trying to create or look at rules from OWA we get an Mapi error (See below). Also, When checking the problem user rules from Exchange Management
Console "get-inboxrule -mailbox <User>", it fails with a Doctor Watson error (also below) Witch is similar to the one from OWA.
Any help would be much appreciated.

What kind of the migration?
If it was cross forest or involved PST files then rules rarely come across correctly and should be recreated.
If it was simply install Exchange 2010 and use move mailbox, then rules should have moved with the mailbox.And please provide more information like below:
1)Does this rule problem happen to all moved mailboxes or just part of them?
2)Would you please verify that you have successfully moved these problem mailbox?
3)Can you manage the rule in outlook for them?Have you tried to create a new rule to see if it works for these mailbox in OWA or Outlook?
Please try to move the mailbox back to Exchange 2007,then move it to another mailstore,after that migrate it again to Exchange 2010 to see if it works.

Solved: InDesign CC: Problems with text in text box: text flows around invisible object

I just upgraded from CS4 to CC. I have two problems with text in some text boxes:
The text seems to flow around invisible object that I cannot find or delete. It's as if there is a photo or other object behind the text box; but when I press COMMAND-a to select all, I don't see any such object.
When I move this text box, the layout of the text within changes. For example, when the box is high on my spread, the text flows correctly within the box; but when I move it down, it flows around that hidden other object. For another example, when the box is low on the page, the text starts at the top of the box; but when I move the text box up, the text starts somewhere in the middle of the box.
I have checked margins of the text box and the paragraph options of the text paragraphs (margins, indents, alignments). They all look OK.
If I modify the text box, checking the box "Ignore text wrap", then the problem goes away; but then the text also will not flow around a real object that I want it to flow around.
Solution:
There were objects in a hidden layer on that one spread. It seems that in CS4 when you "select all" you would also select objects in hidden layers; but in CC it doesn't.

InDesign CS3: Problem with Trial

Hello,
I have no tried installing the trial on three different machines and have gotten this message each time I have tried to launch the program and begin the trial:
"A problem was encountered while trying to load the trial period for Adobe InDesign CS3.
Click quit to see if restarting your computer or reinstalling the software fixes this problem. Otherwise, click Continue to display a screen where you can enter a valid serial number to begin using the product without trial."
All of the machines I have tried to install on are running Windows XP SP2. Thanks for any help!

The product installed OK, but when I choose "Start 30 day trial" I am simply told "A problem was encountered..."

The software was installed on a fresh PC 2GHz, 1Gb memory, with win XP.
It is totally frustrating that not even a trial can start. At least Quark gets that one right.. I truly understand people that search for a key generate online. All I needed was a trial while I wait for my paid copy to appear.
Btw: InCopy will not even install, here I am simply told: "You can only run one installer at a time".. although InDesign was already completely installed.
Shame on you, Adobe installer team. Shame on you.

Indesign CS4 Problem with weird characters HELP!!!

I am rather new to Indesign, but have been using it for several months with no problems. I design our church bulletins and my youth group bulletins using it every week. I don't know what happened but I opened previous documents tonight and when I tried to change the text with the text boxes, it shows the text being changed, but when I hit space or click off the text it turns into boxes instead of the text characters I typed. I have tried opening other docs and even other text boxes within the docs and everytime it does the same thing. When changing numbers it brings up a little box with numbers and chinese looking symbols next to them. This is really confusing me and google searching has come up with nothing to help. Can someone please help me before I lose my mind???

Read everything.
If that doesn't solve the problem, it sounds like a font problem. Are you having any other problems in other applications? It's possible you've selected a differnt fron than you are used to using.

InDesign CS3 problems with selecting links

I have a Mac user on OS 10.4.11 using InDesign CS3 5.0.4.
They have one particular file that whenever they select a link from the links panel and then move the mouse to the bottom of the panel to select either 'relink' or 'go to link' the selected link becomes unhighlighted so those two buttons don't work. A similar problem is that if they select one link from the links panel and then try to scroll, it will keep jumping back to that selected link but then it will be unhighlighted.
There does not seam to be any other problems like this in any other application and I have tried different mice and keyboard to rule out a faulty key making InDesign think that something is being held down while selecting.
I hope someone can help me resolve this.

Indesign CS6 Problems with OS X Services

With Indesign CS5.5, services work, but not in CS6 on Snow Leopard. What I mean is, if you select some text (in my case Tex text), go to the Indesign menu, select Services, then select something like Typeset LaTex Text, Indesign says the service cannot be used, and the reason revealed in the Console is this:

This error happens for all Services listed.

No issues so far on my 2012 Mac Mini but after using this new system for 2 days I find no improvement or features that I would use from ML version. Probably more trouble updating than it was worth.

Problem with rule file ,not able to create a new column

I am trying to create a text temp in column 53 and trying to join with another column54.A new column temp is created but some filelds are blank instead of temp.I donot understand why it is happening like this ,what is the reason behingd this .

Problem with rules

I want to create a rule that under certain conditions copies a message to one mailbox and then moves it to a second mailbox (removing it from its original mailbox). However, when I do this and set up the corresponding actions the Rules Preferences insists on reordering the actions so the move happens first. Surely this will mean it's not then available for the copy ?

I thought I made it clear in my original post, but this is what I mean -
1. I go into Mail/Preferences/Rules
2. I select any for the if statement
3. Next line I have Any Recipient Contains "My String" (a particular sequence of characters)
4. After "perform the following actions" I have 2 actions. The first is a copy to a specified mailbox. The second is a move to another mailbox. However when I click OK the two actions get resequenced so the move becomes the first action. Firstly, is this correct behaviour, and secondly, am I right in thinking this will delete the message from the source mailbox thus causing the second action to fail ?
Also, what I really wanted to do was 2 move actions, leaving the original mailbox unaltered, however the Rules Preferences doesn't seem to allow this. After doing one move and then adding another action the move option becomes greyed out.

Indesign CS4 Problem with Fonts

Hello,
If I select to edit a font from anywhere other than the top menu (the bar) the app crashes. If I go to the tabs click the font menu, it scrolls for 2 seconds then bombs.
What can i do?

You have not provided any proper system info or other details. The obvious answer is that you have a "bad" font on your system that causes the crash when rendering the font previews and need to remove it...

Indesign CS6 on MACs with OS 10.8 are having problems with links

Indesign CS6 on MACs with 10.8 are having problems with links. All links to other files have to be updated when opening a file although definitely nothing has changed to the linked files.
We can rule out our company's networking and the system hosting the files (HELIOS software on RedHat Linux VM). This happens with newly created Indesign files and with old ones. E.g. we create a file on Tuesday, save it and open it again on the exact same MAC on Wednesday and all links to other fiels (.indd, .png, .bmp, etc. nothing uncommon) have to be updated as they all show the yellow triangle + black exclamation mark symbol next to them. Has anybody else experienced this, What can we do? We have tried absolutley everything and updated all software from MAC OS to CS6 itself but nothing seems to help on the long run.

We actually noticed that there also seems to be something wrong with the timestamps:
If we open the infos via the MAC finder to a file (.psd e.g.) which is linked in one of our indesign files, it states a certain date of creation.
If we then switch to the Indesign file we just opened in which we had to update all links and open the infos to exactly the same file we looked at in the finder, a different date of creation is stated. So there also seems to be a mistake here (hope it's clear what I mean).
We are ruling out our network as the error cannot be "re-enacted". We have created numerous test files in Indesign (simple white page containing one link to a .psd file which is also used in one of the supposedly defective files) and have opened them on various MACs with various OS versions over the past days/weeks but unfortunately the files open without any notifications or errors.
Just as a background: a few months ago, the problem seemed to occur between MACs with differing OS, 10.6 - 10.8 at first. A file which was created on a 10.6 MAC could not be opened without updating all links on a 10.8 MAC. That is why we updated everything to 10.8. The error did not occur for about 2-3 weeks but then reoccured again.?
Have you heard anything similar?

Problem with signing in to folio builder, indesign.

I have created an app that I would like to publish, but I can not sign in via the folio builder. I have done this many times before, but today I only get the grey weel when I try to sign in. Im am stuck an can not publish my app. How can I get this to work?
