InDesign CC: Really slow scrolling, panning, editing in "Normal" screen mode

Just like the title says.
InDesign CC v.9.0
Mac OS X v10.8.4
Macbook Pro: 2.66 GHz Core i7 (8GB RAM, 128 SSD (42GB free))

Thank for the quick reply! — Info panel is already closed, and thumbnails in layers are turned off, same a dsiplay mode set to lower quality settings, but to no avail.
Interestingly it's more than just editting, the whole app is lagging as if the system is under significant load.
Even more interestingly, looking at Activity Monitor ‚ ID uses up to 90% CPU when in "Normal" screen mode, but in "Preview" screen mode, it only maxes out at 55%.

  • Strange behavior when editing in full screen mode

    Very recently, Aperture has been acting very strange when I edit in full screen mode. When I make adjustments, the histogram completely disappears. When I reverse the adjustment, the histogram reappears and if I make the same adjustment again, the histogram looks normal. After a a few more adjustments, half of my screen goes black making editing impossible. Anyone else ever experience anything like this?

    yup. this usually means your system's graphic card is low on buffer cache, for example, you're running 256MB of cache on graphic card. graphic cards will run on 256MB of cache but if you're going to do photography/graphic work more buffer cache is better like 512MB or if you can afford it 1.5GB of cache, then your refresh rates will speed up

  • Indesign CS4 really slow with CMYK images

    Can anyone help me solve this? InDesign CS4 document with a few pages, and approx 24 images on a page. With CMYK images imported the rendering and re-rending is very sluggish. The Processes shows 99% usage for InDesign. Makes it almost impossible to work on a document.
    Any ideas to fix this?
    I'm using an 27" iMac with 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 - Memory: 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3

    Doesn't surprise me. I find getting help in Adobe forums/support/community very confusing to find my way around.

  • My video is suddenly really slow before flashing a bright green screen.

    I started editing on my Macbook Pro with my FCPX free trial, then went back to edit the same project on a school computer. I've done this countless times before with no issue, but the program is suddenly running really slowly. If I try to play, the footage will start fine, but after 2 or 3 seconds it will start lagging until the video goes away entirely and is replaced by a bright green screen. Moving clips around also causes the turning wheel to appear for at least 20 seconds before I can finally continue editing, but even then I can only do that one move before the turning wheel comes back.The footage is only 3.5 minutes long, and I'm not trying to do anything I haven't done before.
    What could be causing these issues, and how do I fix them?

    Tony,
    The video is from the same camera as all of my other projects (JVC 100), but since it is a partner project, another girl filmed it (she has had no issues). My hard drive crashed on the 6th, and prior to that FCPX would not open while it was connected, but had no problem opening without the drive. I think it's safe to assume that it was my hard drive causing all of the problems, but I'm going to go in and ask an Apple employee if there is anything else that I can do to prevent this from happening in the future.
    Thanks for all of your help.

  • ImageIO image renders slow in scroll pane

    Hello all, I need some help understanding the behavior of BufferedImage(s)
    retrieved from ImageIO.read(). The problem I am having is weird .. I load
    a PNG image via ImageIO.read(), I use it to construct an ImageIcon which
    is later used in a JLabel/JScrollPane for rendering. When I attempt
    to scroll the image in the scroll pane, it is very chunky and slow.
    If I load the same image with ImageIcon(byte[]), there is no problem. The
    image on disk is 186k, when loaded from ImageIcon(), it consumes about
    10M, when loaded with ImageIO about 5M is consumed ... when I scroll,
    the memory usage increase about 9 MB, which can be collected immediatly
    to return to 5M.
    Is ImageIO doing some fancy optimization to preserve memory, if so ... how
    can I alter the settings or turn it off completly. I tried setting
    ImageIO.setUseCache(false); that did nothing as far as I can tell.
    The code to load the image is as follows, I am just using the default right now.
          // perform base64 decoding from buffer
          ByteArrayInputStream bos = new ByteArrayInputStream(decoded);
          try
             image = ImageIO.read(bos);
          catch (IOException ioe)
          }Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Cheers,
    Jody

    I'm not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for but, here's code that works well for me:
    private class MyJLabel extends JLabel {
        public void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
          super.paintComponent(g);
          Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D)g;
          URL imageLocation = MyJPanel.class.getResource("myImage.jpg");
          Image myImage = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage (imageLocation);
          MediaTracker tracker = new MediaTracker (this);
          tracker.addImage(myImage, 0);
          try { tracker.waitForID(0); } catch (InterruptedException exception) { System.out.println("Image myImage.jpg wasn't loaded!"); }
          g2d.drawImage(myImage, 0, 0, getWidth(), getHeight, this);
    }Once I reload images using the above method, image repainting is very quick. Extend the JLabel (MyJLabel) to overwrite the paint method as above. Should work fast when you do so. You can move the image retrieving code out of the paint method and into the 'MyJLabel' constructor.
    How are you painting the icon and where are you retrieving the image? Can you post more code?

  • Indesign CS5 Slow Scrolling

    Hello
    I'm currently being affected by a slow scrolling bug in InDesign CS5 where no matter what my scroll settings are the speed is constantly slow. Is there an override in InDesign somewhere to fix this?
    This was also present in CS4 but not quite as bad and have also seen other posts in Ps forums.
    Using Windows 7 and logitech mouse
    Thanks
    Nathaniel

    Could you be more specific about this slow scrolling, and what settings are not making a difference?

    First of all, did you have PSE installed before updating to 10.10? If so, you need to do this:
    A Reminder for Mac Folks upgrading to Yosemite | Barbara's Sort-of-Tech Blog
    Also, be sure you have updated to 10.10.1. And if you have a large number of recently imported images in the organizer, PSE will be slow till organizer is through creating thumbnails for the photos.

    I'm not sure, but I know it's not recommended to upgrade to iOS 8 on anything older than an iPhone 5. I only lost my music playlists and music that was on my phone, but that music is also on my iTunes, not the playlists though, and I don't want to go through ALL my iTunes library to fix it either... But it seems I don't have a choice right now.
    Whatever you do, do NOT upgrade to iCloud Drive, keep iCloud till OS X Yosemite comes out, if your computer is a Mac. I also just noticed that all my documents on my phone are gone from Pages, BUT if I go on the iCloud website they are still there. Hopefully it will all work itself out when I can update my macbook pro to OS X Yosemite.
    If you backed up your phone and all your purchases off your iPhone prior to trying to upgrade you should be fine... But I'm not even remotely sure.

  • Indesign CC CS6 is really slow today. Updates have been done. Do you have a solution?

    Indesign CC CS6 is really slow today. Updates have been done. Do you have a solution?

    Adobe has absolutely acknowledged issues for some users with CC and there are well over 700,000 paid CC subscribers. I suggest you check your facts before posting complete nonsense.
    Where has this been acknowledged? If so it is still not fixed.
    CS6 sold 14.5 million copies. An advertisement email from Adobe stating: "Join the over 650,000 creative professionals who’ve already made the switch to Creative Cloud* and get everything you need to create, collaborate, and publish all in one place. And with a Creative Cloud membership, you’ll always have the most advanced design features the minute they become available. At the Q2 earnings Adobe stated 770,000 subscribers. Why do the state 120,000 less? Did 120,000 early adopters not continue the subscription?"
    That may be more that a few but hardly worth risking having access to the latest new bugs the minute they become available.

  • I have iMac and need a good photo editing program to use.  Reviews say aperture runs really slow with Lion, any suggestions?

    I need a program where I can remove objects and touch up dead grass, etc.

    Reviews say Aperture runs really slow with Lion, any suggestions?
    To add on to Corky02 answer:
    The recent Aperture release AP 3.3.x is very efficient, both on Lion and Mountain Lion. But you need a decent hardware to support it. The older Macs will have problems with the storage and CPU requirements. For good performance on large raw images plenty of RAM is important, at least 4GB, but 8GB would be much better, and your library should be on a fast disk, preferably on an internal drive. And don't let the system drive get too full.
    Many reports about Aperture being slow are due to putting the Aperture library onto slow disks or acessing  the original image files over the network, insufficient RAM, or corrupted or  ill-designedAperture databases.
    Aperture excels at all kinds of image processing that can be considered image developement - raw processing and color/lighting adjustments, but does not do compositing. If you are shooting raw and want professional image developement I'd recommend to do this in Aperture and not in iPhoto - you will have much more control over this in Aperture (after a steep learning curve). You can also  repair and retouch the image to correct minor blamishes. For graphics compositing and inpainting you can set up an external editor and send your images from Aperture to this external editor - any of the editors Corky recommended would be o.k. for this.
    To see, if you will want the advanced image processing in Aperture or the easy to use, more basic options in iPhoro will be sufficient to you have a look at the Aperture User manual, or the tutorial on the support page: Aperture Support
    But Aperture is a professional apllication, not "plug and play". You should only consider it, if you are willing to spend some time on learning to use it properly and are willing to work your way through the manual.

  • Multicam Edit Really Slow

    I am editing DV PAL and have just noticed that there is bug which is delaying my keyboard commands to switch to different cameras in the multicamera window.
    Firstly after lining up my two cameras, I exported the audio alone to a wav format so I could mix it from both cameras right. Then imported it back into my project and overlayed the audio in track one of the layered sequence. I muted the audio from both cameras in track 2 and 3. Created another sequence and dragged my layered sequence for multicam edit. Apparently when I start playing with the yellow borders around camera 1, it plays fine but when I change to camera 2 it is just instant and the border now changes to red. If I press 1 for camera 1 it responds after 2 - 3 seconds and carries on like that. At times it appears as if its no longer playing in real time. All the colour correction in the layered sequence have been disabled.  I have stopped the editing because I would like to sync some of the sections with music beats in the scene to make it more interesting.
    Am I missing something, here or its my sytem or the footage that is just too slow for the editing process? Other than that I might have to push on like that and review the edit once the multicam window is closed. This method will not produce the results I am after. I have done it before and it use to work only slowing down when its coming to the end of at least 50 minutes multicam sequence and this one is just 40 minutes.
    All the video files are located on RAID 1.
    My system configuration is as follows
    APP CS4
    HP XW6600
    Quad Xeon 5420 2.5Ghz
    Vista Business 64bit
    Nvidia Quadro FX4600 GPU
    8GB RAM
    RAID 1 esata
    250 GB C drive HDD
    750 GB D drive
    22" HD monitor.
    I have attached a pdf which showed my system perfomance at the time of the multicam edit.

    One big bottleneck for the system is the way PPro deals with the audio. For a test, try disabling all the audio.  you should see a big performance increase.  The trick now is to keep PPro from working too hard on the sound.
    Try this - Instead of placing your mixed audio track on track 1 in the source timeline, place it in track 2 of the timeline you actually use for the multicamera editing.  Then delete anything in track 1 in this timeline.  You can link the video and track 2, but pay attention when you remove material that you are cutting audio 2 as well, to keep everything in sync.
    It may still not be perfect, but it should help.  You can also disable any color-correction on the tracks until you are finished cutting, as this is a system drag in multicam.
    Multicam is overall a bit of a mess in CS4.  The delay you see is no fun.  You will notice, however, that the actual cut will be at the right moment.

  • I converted an mts file to quicktime to edit in imovie, but the video runs really slow  why is this ?

    video play back runs really slow its all stick and not smooth why is this i thought macbook pro was fast for this stuff. or will it work better
    in final cut pro X

    It was suggested I move this question to IPhoto or IMovie which I did.
    Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
    I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!
