InDesign CC responds slower than CS6 - any advice?

I've been using a trial of InDesign CS6 which ran smoothly for a month. Today I upgraded to InDesign CC.
I've only been using it today but there are detectable and annoying pauses when performing the following actions
Placing and relinking files
Exporting to PDF
Creating new files
Save as...
Anyone else experiencing this?
Using Windows 7 Ultimate
16GB Ram
64 bit OS
I have 250 GB SD drive for my software and a 3TB drive for my files.
I'm not great with the hardware so if I need to supply any other info please let me know!
Thanks
Ruth

I rebuilt all my preferences and that led to some kind of discovery. Starting InDesign CC everthing works ok (though the drawing tools are slightly slower than in CS6, creating a new page for example is much faster). All the following things mainly have an impact on drawing tools (pen tool, rectangle tool etc. placing multiple images is also affected but maybe because an image frame has to be drawn). After activating the application frame things start to slow down a bit. If I open the collapsed panels on right side things get slowed down again and the biggest hit on performance is evident when the information panel is open.
I wanted to record a screen-capture again but this is so slow that it does not represent the bug accurately. And I guess this has something to do with the user interface because all is linked to interface actions (application frame, opening/collapsing panels, showing the information panel)
Once again my system specs (when experiencing the issues half of my RAM was still free with Safari, Mail and InDesign CS6 and CC open for comparison):
InDesign CC (German)
Mac OS 10.8.4
MacBook Pro 17inch
8 GB RAM
2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
500 GB HD (200 GB free)

  • Why is InDesign CC significantly SLOWER than CS6?

InDesign CC is noticeably SLOWER in almost every aspect and functionality than is the latest version of InDesign CS6 on my computer (OSX 10.9.4, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, 27 inch iMac). I have stopped using Indesign CC and now only use CS6 to create and adjust documents.
Can any staff or special users in this forum detail ADOBE's understanding or response to complaints of this nature?
This situation does not bode well for me, given the coerced direction Adobe is taking users of its creative suite (towards cloud based subscription systems).

  • Speed of InDesign CC ist slower than CS6 – why?

    Hi there.
Start InDesign, open big files, export PDF everything is more faster than CS6.
But draging or scaling Elements (like boxes, circles or something else) is so much slow – why?
My Hardware: iMac 27" i5, 3,2 Ghz, 16 GB RAM, SSD Drive – its a fast machine!
How do I setup ID so that it is just as fast as CS6?
    Here my settings:

    Hello,
I have a slightly smaller slower machine than you do, but am experiencing the same speed issues with CC versus CS6.
Have you had any reply from ADOBE to your question?

  • Mid-2010 MBP beachballing, so slow, pretty clean - any advice?

Hello!  So, I have a similar to what other people have reported about slow system performance.  EtreCheck below for my MBP, so I created a new thread.
I have a mid-2010 Macbook Pro.  History:  Was okay but not blazingly fast out of the box.  Used it for a while, seemed to slow down over time.  Upgraded to Mavericks when it came out - didn't help and eventually got even slower.  Wiped the drive clean, reinstalled the OS and put my applications back on, seemed to be okay, but got slower pretty quickly to the point that it was so frustrating that I didn't want to use it. Now I just upgraded to Yosemite and it's worse - can't stand to use the MBP anymore.  Beachballs or delays on menu clicks or switching between apps; slow boot up & shut down; frozen browsers; couldn't even Force Kill chrome yesterday.  Also, battery only lasts like 2.5-3 hours...I watch it tick down just sitting here on Chrome not doing anything. (It's been that way almost from the beginning, from what I recall.)
Have and use essentially only Chrome, Safari, and MS Mac Office 2008 (Excel & Powerpoint).  Couldn't use Parallels due to slowness, so gave up a while ago before Mavericks!! Genius at the Apple Bar ran diagnostic checks, says everything is fine with hardware, battery and disk.  I can't figure out how a pretty clean system can be so slow.  Makes me want to revert to PC!  I ran a EtreCheck, here it is. If anyone has any thoughts, I'm interested to hear.  THANK YOU!

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Bridge CC *much slower* than CS6 - anyone else?

We've been using bridge since CS5 as part of our workflow, and have upgraded computers along the way to support the demands of larger file sizes (we now use D800s with 36Mpix files) and software upgrades.
A typical workflow on a top-end Retina MacBook Pro or top-end iMac includes loading full screan previews in Bridge, culling, and opening to ACR and then Photoshop for post-production with a large amount of PS being batch operations. Going from CS5 to CS6 "felt" faster doing the same things we did in each. Upgrading from D700 cameras to D800 camera "felt" slower until we upgraded computers. Now going from CS6 to CC "feels" slower. Significantly. So much so I ran a test on the Retina MBP (latest OS, 2.6GHz quad processor, SSD, etc)
Open & Process Full Screen Previews for 100 NEF Files
    CS6: 4 min 15 sec
    CC: 5 min 22 sec
Run ACR Adjustments on 100 NEF files as Batch
    CS6: 2 min 15 sec
    CC: 2 min 51 sec
Run Batch on 100 NEF files with 174-Step Action
    CS6: 6 min 13 sec
    CC: 12 min 44 sec
To ensure it wasn't just the Retina MBP, I did a similar range of tests on the iMac (latest OS, 3.4GHz quad processor, SSD, etc), and the approximate ratio of slow-down in within the range of standard deviation.
Loading is confirmed to both "feel" slower as well as actually be slower. So, too, is running batches. A lot slower. We're downgrading back to CS6 for now since this is unacceptable. However, the questions remains - is anyone else seeing these slowdowns?

I have no data but it appears that every version of PS needs more horsepower and this is the case for Adobe Camera Raw as well.  Just more data to process.  And this is not all of Adobe's making as every camera that comes out the manufacturer develops a new camera raw that is "better" as it has more options.

  • My ipod touch completely shut down after i tried to update the software. It won't respond at all. Any advice?

Hi, I was updating my apple software and my ipod touch completely shut down. I got an error message that my ipod touch could not be restored. what the ????
please help. it wont start at all, no power. itunes doesn't even recognize it anymore.

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

  • Indesign cc terribly slow

hi, just upgraded from indesign cs6 to cc and the cc software is at least 3 times slower than cs6.
is there something im missing ?
    operating system 10.9
    processor 2 x 2.8 ghz guad core
    6gb 800mhz memory
    pls help ?

    Folks,
I will repeat my response on behalf of Adobe from another thread:
Adobe Engineering is painfully aware of the current performance issues with InDesign 9.
There will be an update in the relatively near future that will include a good number of fixes specifically to address performance problems in multiple areas, problems that unfortunately were the result of the massive code changes both for migrating to MacOS X's Cocoa framework as well as to 64-bit.
There are definitely issues, but not all users are encountering them. That doesn't mean that there is something virtuous about users who don't encounter the performance issues or evil about those who do encounter those issues. There are a number of variables including platform, the formatting of the document being edited, the actual content already in the document, etc. There are well over a dozen separate scenarios that have already been identified and fixed as well as others being fully investigated for fixes. Hopefully all the fixes will be integrated and fully tested in time to come down chimneys.

  • Indesign is pretty slow ..

    Hi,
    I'm Abhijeet. I am using a MacBook Pro 2.2Ghz i7 late 2011 build 4GB RAM 500GB HDD..running Indesign 5.5 on Mac OSX LION 10.7.4.
My problem is that my indesign is pretty slow ... i am working on a book of around 400 pages which is big...but when i check on activity monitor it shows only around 500MB of RAM is being used by Indesign when i have the project opened...usually i have around 1.5GB RAM free...but still my INdesign is pretty slow...any idea??

Do you have a lot of cross references?
Things that can be done to speed up ID:
Set Live Screen Drawing (in the prefs) to Never or Delayed, turn off Live Preflight, turn off page thumbnails in the Pages panel, open all involved if you use inter-document cross-references.
Make sure you are patched to version 7.5.3, and do a Save As to clear out old change information.

  • Vim in Arch slower than in other distros

Under my arch system, the vim text editor is much slower than under any distro. I wonder why this is? May it be all the colorschemes I loaded?
May it be that the arch build is too big of a bundle? (w/gvim etc.)
I just want my fav. text editor to be as fast as it is under ubunutu:/
version number for ubuntu is: 7.1.56
version number foir arch is: 7.1.228
Please, if anyone have tips to speeding up my vim, please send me some hints

Hrmm... I use vim daily (if not hourly), but I don't find it to be any slower (or faster really) than on any other distro, including ubuntu and fedora. I would almost be willing to bet though, that due to the high number of dedicated vim users among the Arch developers, that vim is about as optimized as one would expect.
Also, as for as I can tell there are no GUI components (gvim) included with the standard vim build so I'm not sure where you found that info...I could be wrong, of course.
If you have a lot of customizations in your .vimrc and/or have lots of themes, I would definitely try to remove them temporarily and see if there's an increase in performance.
PS: This thread might be more appropriate in the Workstation User category--you may not get a lot of coverage here.

  • The wireless is getting slower than before updating to iOs 6!

after updating to iOs 6, i felt the wireless got slower than before, any solution? thx for ur help guys

Hi, the last install dvd that came out for mac's was Snow Leopard,10.6.3. Lion is a download from apple. You cannot just install it over Yosemite. You would have to backup your drive to save files you want and do a clean install. You might want to look into getting more memory. You can run 8 Gig"s of memory on your Macbook Pro.If your Macbook Pro is getting really slow you might want to download EtreCheck  and then post the results here.http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck  Check out this article.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19031

  • In CS6, JavaScript Running MUCH Slower than ActionScript

    Hi All,
I am finding that in CS6, JS code runs MUCH slower than ActionScript code. I don't want to double-post here - Full details may be found where I posted them in the InDesign Scripting forum at  - CS6 JavaScript Running Much Slower than ActionScript, before I realized that this forum might be more appropriate.
The basic gist of it is that I had a Flex/ActionScript Extension, which I obviously needed to start converting to JavaScript in advance of the next version not supporting ActionScript. I converted 20,000 lines of my business logic code from ActionScript to JavaScript (grrr...) - only to find that it now runs 5 times slower than it did in ActionScript.
What has been the experience of others who have converted large Extensions from ActionScript to JavaScript?
I would greatly appreciate any and all suggestions.
    TIA,

    Matt:
Thanks for the update. It is good to know that the maintenance procedures helped. Regular maintenance and a good backup are key to computer security. Gulliver's article has a suggested schedule. Dr. Smoke's FAQ on Backup and Recovery has excellent information and advice. I part company with him on his insistence on Retrospect, which I have found to be difficult to use. SuperDuper has been shown the best backup software in these tests.
If you usually leave your computer on or asleep, it is good practice to shut down and start up in Safe Mode occausionally. I do it about once weekly.
    Good luck.

  • ACR processing in CS6 much slower than CS5

A big advantage of hosting ACR in 64 bit CS5 vs in bridge was that then ACR would process multiple images at once when saving them to jpg which would reduce processing times by 30% or more. For some reason this doesn't seem to be the case with CS6. I just did a short test and CS6 won't process multiple images at once, and was 33% slower than CS5 at saving a batch of 5dmkii images to jpeg.
Has anyone else noticed this? Hopefully this limitation is due to beta status and the final release of ACR will be fully optimized for 64bit processing.

It seems strange that their is hardly any improvement in 64 bit cs6 speed vs 32 bit cs5.    I agree, gpu support for acr would great!

Bridge in CS5 was 32 bit only, and I observed the 32 bit converter as run by Bridge (or Photoshop 32 bit) wouldn't exercise all the cores, so the way I interpret your numbers is as follows:
    1.  ACR7 is 50% slower than its predecessor (34.25 seconds when run in Photoshop 64 bit vs. 22.59).
    2.  Bridge is now 64 bit, so you're running the same code in both cases, which is why you're seeing essentially the same number in Bridge as Photoshop.

  • Firefox 4.0 freezes, crashes, closes, changes screens, does not respond, and runs 8X SLOWER than 3.6.

Firefox 4.0 is the WORST browser I have ever seen. It freezes, crashes, closes, changes screens, does not respond, and runs 8X SLOWER than 3.6. Tasks I used to do in 30 minutes, now takes me 40 minutes or more. I went back to 3.6 and immediately had a tremendous improvement.
Mozilla needs to get rid of this load of lies about a new crap program, and go back to the 3.6 version. Version 4.0 is WORST than any other program I have ever seen.

The slow / hesitant scrolling problem seems to be an artifact of the database Firefox uses to keep track of where you go, what you do, etc. It uses sqlite databases which get fragmented over time.
    There are several fixes:
Some are add-ons and work internally, such as Vacuum Places (search the addons for it).
Some are external. Speedyfox is one I just tried, and found to work quite well. I think it did a better job than Vacuum Places, but requires Firefox to be shut down before it can work properly.
Find Speedyfox using a web search.
