InDesign CC Trial won't open files

I have been using the trial for about 2 weeks. We work on files off a server at work, and our server went down today. This caused InDesign to crash and when I reopened it, it would no longer open any files. These are files I created using the trial and was just working on earlier today, and now I get the message "Cannot open the file xxxxx. Adobe Indesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application."
I have already tried the following:
Restarted my computer
Restarted InDesign
Ran Creative Cloud updates
Uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign CC trial
Had a coworker open the files on his CC trial (worked fine)
Can anyone help?

  • InDesign Mac Trial Won't Open

    Hi, I was attempting a Mac trial of InDesign, but it won't open without crashing. I deleted and re-downloaded and installed, but it still won't open. Just crashes after attempting to open. Can you help me?

    We're seeing quite a few reports that the installer is failing to set the permissions correctly on the preference folders. Log in with a new user on the Mac and see if ID will launch.

  • PSCS6 no longer recognizes my CR2 files and will not open. Using Canon 5DMark III with updated Camera Raw . It has worked before but now won't open files from this camera.

    I have been able to open files from this camera before but still checked for latest Camera Raw download. Still won't open files from this camera. Opens files from my 60D just fine. I downloaded the latest and it has worked before. What the heck is going on?

    Glad to be of help. But I'm curious (not critical of what you are doing) to know why so many people like to use Nikon Transfer to transfer their files to the computer. It is still necessary to import them into Lightroom. And, from my perspective, it seems simpler and maybe even a little quicker to use the Lightroom import dialog. I have Nikon cameras, and have never even installed the Nikon Transfer utility. What is so unique about it?

  • Adobe Indesign & Illustrator CS6 will not open files off server after Mac Maverick update.

    I updated to Mac OS X Maverick and all the sudden my InDesign and Illustrator will not open files off of my works network.  I read somewhere about installing the new Java update may help fix it, but I tried it and it did not. I have restarted my computer and reset the connection to the server multiple times, but it does nothing.
    The exact message I get is:  "Cannot open the files "xxxx.indd" Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file may be missing, or the file may be open in another application"  I know for a fact that it is not open in another application so it is not that. I have tried multiple files on the server as well.
    For Illustrator, I try to open a file from the server and it just freezes and does not respond so I have to force quit.
    Does anyone have any suggestions? Please help!

    If you had asked before you did this I would have told you not to move to Mavericks unless you were prepared for problems. I’m not a proponent of upgrade installations for operating systems and there’s no way to eliminate that as the cause.
    That said, before you start erasing the whole machine, try uninstalling CS6 and then reinstalling it. You might want to run the cleaner tool after the uninstallation.

  • Indesign CS5.5 won't open/start after a recent windows 8 update -- how to fix?

    I just had a Windows 8 auto update happen and then my Indesign CS5.5 won't open/start. When I go to open it, it gets to the usual screen but then an error message shows up saying that Windows has encountered a problem and needs to shut the program down, and will notify me if a solution exists. What to do?

    Do you see anything useful in the Event Viewer logs? Have you tired rebooting? Does it start if you log in with a different username?

  • My elements 11 won't open files, can someone help?

    I have photoshop elements 11. It was working and then I had to close the program and go do something else. When I turned my computer back on I couldn't get elements to open any of my files. It won't open Jpg or Raw. I've tried restarting my computer mulitple times and It hasn't changed. It still won't open files. It will freeze and then close out of the program. Can someone please help me? I just recently got this program for christmas and i'm really wanting it to work.

    Please try this:
    Solution 1:
    1) Close Elements.
    2) Hit on PSE desktop icon to launch welcome screen
    3) Click Alt+Ctrl+Shift on your keyboad and with all three keys pressed click Photo editor. Do not release when you will see a dialog box asking you to delete the PSE preferences.
    4) Hit ok and check now.
    Solution 2:
    1) Launch Editor.
    2) Hit File->open and choose any small file of size < 1 MB and see if it opens fine
    3) Try file->open as and choose any file and choose camera raw from file format and when shown ACR dialog box hit ok and will open file in editor.
    I hope you are not importing fron any network location which might cause the process to slow or freeze depending on network settings and secutiry issues.
    Let me know your comments,
    thanks,
    Garry

  • Firefox won't "Open File..." to my hard drive/desk top since my OSX system update yesterday -- why?

    Did an automated OSX system update and noticed after reboot that Firefox now won't "Open File..." or recognize any files (video, pdf, etc) on my computer! (Problem may not be related to update but suspicious timing!) Seems to play streaming video OK...
    Checked/updated plugins from Firefox site and reinstalled Firefox without success -- issue remains. Safari recognizes all / will "Opens file..."
    Any ideas how to fix? Thanks!

    Hello, have you tried this full route?
    This can fix myriad Mail problems...
    Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
    Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
    Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
    If that doesn't help & you can afford to redo any Mail Rules...
    Trash these files...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/... MessageRules.plist and MessageRules.plist.backup

  • Shared Content InDesign Plugin for InDesign CS4 won't open file

    Yesterday I discontinued using Adobe CC and went back to using my Adobe InDesign CS4.  CS4 is working OK but there is ONE file that won't open.  I get the message "Shared Content InDesign Plugin is currently not available on your system".  The file will not open. Is there a workaround or how do I get the required plugin?

    You get that error when the file was saved in CS5 or later. You can find out the version using the script at Adobe Forums: [Ann] Identify Your InDesign File.
    You'll need to export the file to .idml from the newer version to be able to open it in CS4. This is something I normally offer to do, but I'm not available for at least a week, so perhaps one of our other regulars can step up and volunteer.

  • InDesign CS6 won't open files

    InDesign CS6 won't open some files. No error message, simply returns to previous 'Open...' view. I've tried restarting, rebooting, resetting my InDesign preferences and re-unzipping the original zip file. I can still open previously worked on files, though. (Even in the second folder of unzipped files, it's the same files that I can and cannot open.) Any ideas? InDesign

    EditingErin wrote:
    Ooh – I just had another look to check that they are CS6 files. The are, but each file size is 0 bytes – think that may be the problem! Thanks again both for responding so quickly. :-)
    That sounds like you have the resource fork for a Mac-generated .indd file. Check to see if there is another file with the same name but a real file size in the zip archive. I suspect the "real" file (the data fork) is being unzipped first, then the resource fork is overwriting without warning and you could solve it by extract9ng the files manually.

  • Windows 7/Bridge won't open files in Photoshop CS6 (cloud)

    I recently got the cloud CS6 and installed photoshop cs6, then uninstalled CS5.5. But now, Windows Explorer cannot seem to find Photoshop. If I try to associate the default for any file (.jpeg, .tiff, etc.) with Photoshop, Photoshop does not show up on the list of programs. I must browse to find  Photoshop exe (CS6 64). I click okay, but it continues to open the file in Windows picture viewer and to associate that file type with Windows Picture Viewer.
    If I right-click on the file, it does exactly the same thing. I must browse to Photoshop.exe. But it still opens the file in Windows Picture Viewer.
    Fix 1 Try Bridge Associations: I opened Bridge CS6->Edit>Preferences and made sure the files were associated with photoshop. But, when I then try to open the files from within Bridge, I get the message Windows cannot find c:Program Files\Adobe\AdobePhotoshop CS4 (64Bit)\Photoshop.exe. (my emphasis)  But I haven't had CS4 installed for years. I did not have this problem when I installed CS5. So now I can't open files from either Windows explorer or Adobe Bridge.
    Fix 2 Fix the Registry: So, I opened Regedit and went to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\command, and changed the (Default) from "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1" to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1" . Don't know why the install left this at CS5.1. It SHOULD have changed it. EUREKA! Windows now recognizes Photoshop CS6 and I can associate files with it as usual. But I had to manually associate the native .psd file with Photoshop. along with .jpeg, .tiff and other image files.
    No Fix for Bridge: But back in Bridge CS6, it's not so rosy. I still get Windows cannot find c:Program Files\Adobe\AdobePhotoshop CS4 (64Bit)\Photoshop.exe. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. If I try File--Open with--Photoshop (default), I get the same message. Clearly, Bridge thinks Photoshop CS4 is the default, and I don't know where to change that association. Preferences does not allow browsing. So Bridge is pretty much useless.
    So what should I do about Bridge?
    Bridge CS6 still won't open Photoshop CS6. It's still looking for CS4. I thought about reinstalling Bridge, but when I try to download it, the cloud tells me it is is already installed and won't download. I am a little worried about uninstalling it and trying again. Maybe, I'll end up with no Bridge at all. I am beginning to regret my decision to go cloud. Don't know if the install mess is just cloud or noncloud versions as well. Doesn't seem to apply to all programs either.
    Postcript:
    I had to go to the registry and manually change CS5.1 to CS6 for InDesign and Illustrator as well, and then manually associate .indd and .ai files with those programs. What a pain this is. Obviously, the install program didn't change the normal associations to CS6. Left them with the CS5, and then when I uninstalled that--as anyone would normally do--it lost the association completely.

    Thank you David__B! Your suggestion worked perfectly. All the files are correctly associated in both Explorer and Bridge. And it didn't take all that long, mostly uninstalling. The Adobe App Manager very efficiently installs several different programs with very little fuss.
    I am not sure, but I think it may have been an old plug-in to Bridge back in the CS4 era that I didn't even know I had that was causing the Bridge file association problems. Uninstalling CS5 after installing CS6 seems to be causing Win Explorer problems, not just for me.  Based on this experience, I would recommend that anyone with several previous installations of Adobe CS do the following:
    Save your plugins and preference files in a back up file.
    Uninstall all the old adobe software.
    Run the the cleaner you suggested. (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html).
    Install CS6 programs from the CCloud or wherever.
    Add your plug-ins back in as you need them one at a time to be sure they work.
    If you have already installed CS6 and are having file association problems, just uninstall everything and start at step one. You probably won't save time trying to fix the registry and manually associate file types--- yada yada yada.
    Steps 1-6 will give you a nice clean install and salvage only  good plug-ins.

  • InDesign CC Server 2014 app.open() File does not exist.

    I've set up InDesign CC Server 2014 trial on a Windows Server 2008 R2 and trying to run a simple script that converts a idml to PDF.
    Here's the code
    document = app.open(File("C:\inetpub\wwwroot\presentation\Documents\Resumes.idml"));
    document.exportFile(ExportFormat.PDF_TYPE, File ("C:\inetpub\wwwroot\presentation\Documents\file.pdf"));
    document.close();
    I'm running the script in ExtendScript Toolkit CC and it gets hung up every time on the first line, open() method.
    I've verified the path and permissions are fine as other scripts work that write output, such as this one.
    //HelloWorld.jsx
    //Create a new document.
    var myDocument = app.documents.add();
    //Get a reference to the first page.
    var myPage = myDocument.pages.item(0);
    //Create a text frame.
    var myTextFrame = myPage.textFrames.add();
    //Specify the size and shape of the text frame.
    myTextFrame.geometricBounds = ["6p0", "6p0", "18p0", "18p0"];
    //Enter text in the text frame.
    myTextFrame.contents = "Hello World!";
    //Save the document (fill in a valid file path).
    myDocument.save(new File("/c/HelloWorld.indd"));
    //Close the document.
    app.documents.item(0).close();
    No problems at all with that script.
    Please help!

    Figured it out. Path for app.open() needs \\ instead of \.

  • InDesign CC 2014 won't open.

    Just installed Adobe InDesign 2014 CC yesterday on a brand new MacBook Pro. Today it won't open "because it is not responding." I tried uninstalling and reinstalling...no go. It is also preventing my computer from being able to shut down. I had just been transferring some CS 5.5 files from my old computer and converting them. I suspect it is a font issue, but not really sure. Totally at a loss as to what to do now. When I Force Quit, nothing happens.

    Hi jesslucia2,
    Are you facing issue opening files created on CC2014 on CC version, If yes then you can follow the following article. You have to save the files in IDML format in order to open them in older versions.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/save-indesign-files-previous-versions.html
    If you have CC version installed , you can also try to upgrade to CC2014 version from Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App and open the files without any problem.
    Thanks,
    Nikhil Gupta
