InDesign CC won't package due to "Cannot copy necessary font(s)" error.

Every time I try to package out a file in InDesign its gets about 3/4s of the way through and then shows the "Cannot copy necessary font(s)" dialog box. I have read on certain discussions it may be a font issue. When I remove ALL fonts from my computer font library and use only preset Adobe fonts, Arial Regular for example, it works fine, then as soon as I use a font say, Helvetica Neue Light, I get the error. I have only recently upgraded to CC and all of the existing fonts in my library have always worked fine and never been a problem when packaging... However due to the tests with different fonts, it seems to be a font issue and not a links/filename issue like other people have had.

I am experiencing the exact same problem/same error message as Brendan. I just installed InDesign CC; was using CS5 prior, and WAS having NO issues with the same fonts being packaged (all Myriad Pro family). In the Package dialog box > Fonts section; this is displayed: "8 Fonts Used, 0 Missing, 0 Embedded, 0 Incomplete, 0 Protected." The Show Problems Only checkbox IS checked, no problems flagged, no errors in the Preflight panel either. On the "More Info" panel within the "Find Font" menu, every one of the fonts used has "Restrictions: Normal".  Packaging with the "Report" button option selected is not helpful, (you'll get a text file with YourJob_report.txt, showing no font errors) InDesign stops packaging but creates a job Folder containing a "Document Fonts" folder with only a tmp file inside. Extract that and read it in a Text Editor. Here's what I found:

It seems MyriadPro Black Condensed MAY be the culprit in my case.
By the way, isn't it a bit redundant to manually create a "Document Fonts" folder, drag / copy all the fonts used in my file into that folder, THEN to try and "package" them— again?! What ? Isn't that the whole point of the feature, to perform that exact task?

  • "cannot copy necessary font(s)"

Using latest version of InDesign (9.1) and Mavericks OSX and get "cannot copy necessary font(s)" error message everytime I try and package. I've repaired disk permissions, unlocked all fonts in my doc, added all the document fonts to InDesign fonts folder, everything I've seen suggested...to no avail. I've spent almost two days trying to troubleshoot and up against a print deadline. Help?!

I'm using various weights of Gotham and MuseoSlab...that's it. I'm not sure about a patch but I've updated to the most recent version on InDesign CC. I've even tried converting all of my fonts to outlines and I'm still getting the error message.

Cannot copy necessary linked file ERROR.  HELP ME!! I can't make a package

What have you tried? Often, this happens when a linked file is open...perhaps at the hands of another user across a network where you can't see. If that's not the case, and you're sure you don't have it open, it's still possible your system just thinks it's open. Reboot the computer and try again.

  • InDesign CS 6 Package - " Cannot copy necessary font(s)"

    Hi,
I've recently installed InDesign CS 6 on my Mac. Everything works fine until I start to package my files. I'll get the above error message and nothing will be copied out. I've been browsing the forum and saw that a few others also experienced similar problems. I've tried some of the methods (Re-installing InDesign & Trashing my preference) but none works. I've an older version of Indesign CS 5.5 and the same document file package out fine. I'm running on OS X 10.6.8 on a MacPro. The problem does not just lie in one file. All my other files are experiencing the same problems with packaging on CS 6. And I'm only using 1-2 font type (Univers).
Would greatly appreciate if anyone could give me some directions on this. Thanks!
    Cheers,
    Jeffrey

I see this was posted almost a year ago.  Did you ever find any resolution?  I am now having this problem suddenly.

  • InDesign CC won't package my files

InDesign CC won't pacakge my graphic files with the following error; "Cannot copy necessary linked file(s).
I have recenly upgraded to CC version of InDesign, using InCopy text files, have never expreienced any issues with packaging before.
I also tried saving back to InDesign CS6 and opening in that version, also with the same error.
Any thoughts or assistance would be greatly appriiciated.
    regards
    Peter

Still working on figuring this out. But here is a summary of all the issues I am having:
    1. When I try to open an Indesign file I SOMETIMES get the following message and cannot open it. (I have correct permissions and the file is not open or locked)
Cannot open the document “filename”. You may not have permission or the document may be open already. For multi-use access, close the file and then lock it using the File . Get Info command in the Finder.
    2. When I try to package in InDesign I get the following message: (despite all images definitely being linked)
ERROR: InDesign could not package the document ‘filename’. Cannot copy necessary file(s)
    3. When I try to make a PDF in Indesign I get a  box with this message:
1 problem (1 failure) was found with a background task
IN READ below says: “Export: ‘filename’ (1)
However, SOMETIMES it will make the PDF, but some or all images in the PDF are blank boxes. (without warning me)
    5. IF I try to export a JPG, the file is blank, but I get no warning that images are not linked.
    6. SOMETIMES when I try to drag an image onto an InDesign file I get this error message:
Cannot place this file. No filter found for requested operation
So far, we have used one file to make a bunch of tests, let's call it "filename." If I simply dragged the .indd file to the desktop, it does not help at all. If I drag the .indd and all it's links to the desktop, it will PDF and package just fine. If I take the Indesign file and all it's links and put it on the server in ONE folder (so basically the links aren't all over the place on the server, but in one spot), it will package and PDF just fine...
So, I'm still slightly clueless. My guess is it may be the server, but IT does not think that is the case. Could it be a combination of issues?

  • When packaging a file in indesign - Error message - Cannot copy necessary linked file(s)

When packaging a file in indesign - Error message - Cannot copy necessary linked file(s)

Can you select all Links in the Links Panel
Use the Flyout Menu on the top right of panel.
    Choose "Utilities>Copy Links to"
    And see if that works.

  • InDesign CC won't package my fonts?

The program says it "can not copy necessary fonts" even after I go back through and find all the fonts in the document.
My version of InDesign is up to date.
    Operating system is 10.8.4
I can't think of what else to do...

Fairfield LH and Myriad Pro (about 12 fonts total in the document)
These are Adobe font folio 11 fonts that i own and have used trouble-free
    for about 4 years.
If I open a new document, type some type, and format it with Fairfield and
    Myriad, InDesign collects them.
If I copy and paste a line of type from the troublesome document into this
new document (that did collect), it won't collect them now.
    Hmmm.
Wondering how I can tell InDesign CC where these font files are, so it will
    grab them...

  • "cannot copy necessary linked files" when trying to package files

I am trying to package files for a customer and I get the message "cannot copy necessary linked files". Nothing shows as missing or any errors.  Anyone else encountered this?

It's REALLY annoying that this hasn't been fixed...
In Sweden we use a lot of å, ä, ö. And it's never a problem to name files with these characteres (and yes, I use an Apple computer).
Before you could always copy all the files without any problems, but these days you need to rename them.
Which can a totall nightmare if you have a file with hundreds of pictures... then you need to go through the whole list of links, carefully change all the names and then update them every single picture one by one.
Which means hours of totally meaningless work.

  • Cannot copy 2010NT_Disk1[1]: Data error (cyclic redunancy check).

    Hi,
I have now twice tried to dl the Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard/Personal Edition for Windows NT/2000/XP. With the file 92010NT_Disk1.zip I get the Error message as indicated below. The dl itself takes about 3hrs with my connection, so I rather not try it again unless I know for sure it is going to work.
    - Server name: http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/oracle9i/htdocs/winsoft.html
    - Filename: 92010NT_Disk1.zip
    - Date/Time: June 27, ~6am CET
    - Browser + Version: IE5
    - O/S + Version: Win 2000
    - Error Msg: Cannot copy 2010NT_Disk1[1]: Data error (cyclic redunancy check).
    What to do?

That is what I am doing in effect. I downloaded the Collection from the trial page on the Adobe site. Then created DVDs from that download. It is when copying the files from the DVD that I get the error message. Could there be a problem with my download? If so how do I check?

  • InDesign CS5 won't package links. tried trashing pref and saving to idml. HELP

I've read some threads and tried trashing my preferences as well as exporting the file(s) to idml and going from there but I still get the error message that it cannot package the necessary links. I tested a file with just one link that I recently worked on and it packages, but the files I'm working on now, each of which has a number of links, won't package.  Don't know what else to try.

OK. No illegal characters. I opened some links to check for locked files and it turns out that all of the files are "partially locked". This includes royalty-free images, client supplied images as well as images I took myself.
I went back to the last packaged version of this file (it's a quarterly publication divided into sections) and all of its previously collected links are partially locked, yet they had collected. I opened this previous version of the InDesign file that had packaged without issue, and when I tried to package it again, I got the error message.
There are still InDesign files not related to the publication that will package, and with links "partially locked", so I'm at a loss.

  • InDesign CS5 won't package documents

I'm running CS5 and have recently had a problem when i try to package files in InDesign. The task bar runs until approx. 50% then stalls and the programme starts to 'spin'. The task bar will slowly edge up to about 75% which can take to to 20 minutes where it stops altogether and leaves you no other option than to Force Quit InDesign and re-launch.
I've read on other forums that this might be due to font issues - usually with Helvetica but the fonts i use are client specific and don't include Helvetica. As i said, it's only a recent problem and no other fonts have been added or activated in recent time.
I've reset my InDesign preferences a few times but with no result.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

    John,
    • There's no problems with printing or exporting to PDF
    • This is a screenshot of the Activity Monitor WHILE i'm trying to package something
    • Seems to be machine specific as no one else has any dramas
    Thanks for your time

  • InDesign CS6 won't package fonts or package anything after installing OSx mavericks - Client is waiting

Pre-Mavericks I had zero problems packaging my INDD files in Adobe InDesign CS6 with all fonts and links intact. Now, when I go to package the same files I successfully packaged last year under Lion, InDesign tells me the fonts can't be packaged (and doesn't package anything else either). My client is becoming very frustrated so I would really appreciate some help from Adobe in solving this problem as soon as possible.

    Thank you Willi for responding.
Which fonts are affected? - I'm assuming all of the fonts are affected since no fonts are able to be packaged.
Are all used fonts installed? - Yes
Did you have your fonts in a Document Fonts folder beside your old file and saved your new document on a different place? - Before I upgraded to Mavericks I was able to package everything for this exact same file so I do have fonts in the packaged folder (referring to my 2013 file) so even though the fonts aren't in a Documents folder (they are inside the package "Fonts" folder) so I think the answer to your question is yes.
Does your font folder have the same permession as the folder before? - I believe so because I never changed the permissions for the fonts
Do you use CS6 as part of the Creative Cloud and are you using TypeKit fonts? Or are you using the boxed version? - I am trying to avoid using Creative Cloud since I already have CS6 that I have already paid for. What I am reading on the internet, however, is that Adobe is forcing people to move over to CC when they upgrade to Mavericks due to problems like I am having now. I am not sure if this is true/untrue but I am definitely concerned. I can not afford right now to start paying a monthly fee (especially after I have already paid for CS6). I am using a boxed version of CS6 and I am not using TypeKit fonts.
