InDesign CC2014.1 - support Edge Animate
Hi, Please, Anyone knows if the support to Edge Animate still only to iBooks and other readers in desktop? All my animation tests from Edge Animate doesn´t work in iBooks/iPad Thanks any help Regards
Yes Felipe, this is iOS limitation at this point or rather a bug in iOS. Edge Animation works fine in other readers like Readium and iBooks on Desktop.

Typekit font not displaying in iPad DPS app (created by Indesign) in Web Content (Edge Animate)
I think I have tried every permutation to make this work, but I am probably missing something.
I am creating a single DPS iPad app with InDesign, and I am using a Typekit font throughout. So far so good.
I have created an Edge Animate project using the same Typekit font. In preview mode, it is fine as well.
However, when I place the Edge Animate project into a frame in InDesign and use the Web Content Folio Overlay (regardless of whether I use the .oam file or link directly .html output published by Animate), the Typekit font will not show up in the Edge Animate portion of the DPS app and will instead use a fallback font.
Can anyone suggest a way to make Typekit fonts in Edge Animate work when embedded in a DPS app? (For what it's worth, I have the same problem when embedding html output from Tumult Hype, so it seems unlikely that this is an issue with Edge Animate at all and probably has more to do with something in the way the DPS app is dealing with embedded html content.)
Thanks in advance for any assistance.Believe me, I understand the pain. Unfortunately there's only so much we can do at Adobe as the EULAs provided by the foundries for their respective fonts are very explicit in where you can and can not use them.
For example, packaging an InDeisgn file and sending it off for pre-press with the fonts included in the package is in direct violation of most font EULAs. In a studio environment, you're only allowed to have a font installed on n number of computers and need to have multiple licenses to accomidate >n number of seats. When creating a PDF, fonts explicitly have to be subsetted before embedding into the PDF.
That's just to paint a picture of the fragile state of using fonts in print, usage in digital mediums is just another bee in your bonnet when it comes to considering when you can and cannot use a font.
Services like Typekit Desktop are trying to make this easier by removing a lot of those pain and condierations for you, by blanketing all these fonts under a single license you're free to use for print and the web. There's still some gotchyas, but we're aiming to greatly reduce how much you have to think about it where we can.
So yes there's a bit of education when it comes to mixing embedded HTML content/fonts with DPS, but at least there's options

How do I use an Edge Animate project with SVG files in InDesign for DPS output?
Is there any way to include an Edge Animate web content using .svg files in InDesign for output to DPS?
Edge Animate works great with InDesign, except for when you're using SVG files. I've worked with SVG files on the web successfully (writing .htaccess files and such), but it seems like InDesign doesn't like them.
This is pretty important because I don't want to have to design multiple renditions on the DPS suite. Currently I have it setup as a PDF format (DPS) and that scales all of the vector-based type perfectly. It would be wonderful if the animations could also be in a vector format so that when the iPad (3) users see the designs, they will scale naturally through the PDF framework.
Any advice would be invaluable.

Hi,
There is a bug on iOS7 which does not let edge animate work correctly here. This issue will happen on iPad and not on Mac OS.

When you click on "My Snippets", it will list down all saved user snippets, which you can right-click and click on "delete" to delete it.

Best workflow from InDesign to Edge Animate for DPS
I'm working on a DPS project and want to take an article that I designed in InDesign, and bring it into Edge Animate to animate.
What's the best way to do that?There is no good way to do that but without seeing the layout it's pretty much impossible to give you any advice at all. BTW, The Edge and DPS forums would be way better places to post this.

The objective of my use is to have Edge Animate OPEN/IMPORT an SVG file with many other SVG elements then animate just one item. For example, below is a flight instrument that I want to animate just the needle. How could that be done? Or is Edge Animate the wrong tool?

InDesign, Edge Animate and SVG import
I created an Edge animation whose ultimate destination is for an iPad app authored in InDesign. To avoid any font issues and to make this viewable in all iPad flavors (retina), I imported three lines of text as well as a text logo as SVG files from Illustrator in to Edge Animate. All fonts were converted to paths:

The link above is what Edge created when publishing for web. It is indeed SVGs and they do appear as such in my desktop machine, on my ipad and on my iphone when I view it using Safari. When I pinch and zoom in, all is rasor sharp. Perfect.
Here is the issue…
I unzipped the .oam file Edge creates for import into InDesign. Just to make sure, all my SVGs are there in the images folder. Edge did not create raster versions of any of them. So far so good...
But, when I place the .oam file in InDesign and preview the app on my ipad using the Aobe Content Viewer, the SVGs are rasterized. I zoom in and they are pixelated. Not good for retina ipads.
Is there a way of importing my Edge animation and retaining the SVGs as vectors and not making them rasters? Is this an InDesign limitation?
Any thoughts?Unfortunately not at the moment. This is a known issue with Edge placement in InDesign.

Does edge animate support any APIs for problematically defining the keyframe transitions ?
Hi All Edge Animate Enthusiasts
While playing around with the timeline window , I got a good idea of defining keyframes and modifying css properties of elements for transitions. However , when I look at the Edge Animate JS API, I see that there are functions available only for playing , stopping timeline from specific points ( time , label etc) . This obviously means that the animation sequence should have been defined in the timeline already , but what if I want to dynamically create a keyframe transition for an element in runtime.
Does Edge Animate support it ?

-ShyamThe answer is no. But you can always write plain javascript code to achieve that, using the Edge API just for selecting various elements.
But I doubt if generating dynamic keyframes using javascript will work as per http://stackoverflow.com/questions/18481550/how-to-dynamically-create-keyframe-css-animati ons
And if you just want to add a static keyframe animations, then you can create a css file where you define such animations for a class say "myAnimation", and add this class dynamically to the html element which you want to animate by calling addClass() function.
*You can insert the css rules or link the css file in the html page, by manually editing the html page using any text editor.

Edge animate navigation in inDesign for iPad
Hello all. I am after creating a animated navigation system using edge animate but would like the buttons to go to selected inDesign pages. Is there a way to have a edge animate button that can take the user to another indesign page/document seamlessly on an iPad?

MartinOkay, I tried the above and it didn't work. After visiting this page, I made some adjustments to Martin's code:
I made a simple 5-page document in InDesign, with five animated navigation buttons on the document master page (so they appear on every page of the document). The buttons are based on Inspire magazine's "Interactive Banner" Edge tutorial.
The ARTICLE for this document is called Article1 (this is important!!).
In the Edge file, the five animated "buttons" are called Overlay_1, Overlay_2, Overlay_3, Overlay_4 and Overlay_5.
I inserted the following mousedown code into each "Overlay" button:

NOTE: the code will vary for each button -- the symbol name (sym.lookupSelector) will change based on which button you're coding for (Overlay_1, Overlay_2, etc).
The "navto" link points to the ARTICLE you want to navigate to. The number after the # symbol refers to the page in the Article you want to navigate to.
SUPER IMPORTANT: The first page of a document is 0, so specifying #1 jumps to page 2, #2 jumps to page 3, etc., etc.
** It's a little bit clunky, so I'm experimenting with the various nav actions to find the best one ("Click" doesn't seem to work that well, so I used mousedown instead) **
EDIT: I messed up on my original post. The navto code should point to the ARTICLE in the Folio Builder, not the FOLIO. -

I'm using a OAM file. Placing it as I would an image. In EA, I grouped an ellipse with a text box and then applied the fade on effect to the group. Each fades on as the timeline progresses. I hope that answers your question. let me know if not. I also tried to ungroup the two layers and apply the fade to each individually but it produced the same effect in the content viewer.

5 New Features that Edge Animate should support
I have 5 requests for a future release of Edge Animate:
01. Allow us to import entire Photoshop files with the individual layers intact and "stacked" correctly in Edge to speed up production
02. Support Z depth layer transform for 3D projection and 2.5D animation purposes
03. Include dynamic filters such as lens blur, glow, and other After Effects type filters that the user can apply to any given layer in Edge...also make the filter properties animatable
04. Be able to directly import .MOV, H.264, .FLV, and .WMV video files instead of writing code that references a video from a different location
05. Support dynamic masking in Edge for any given layer and make the masking properties animatable

-RussFor 3 and 5 the limitation isn't really the cpu. The limitation is the spec. Edge Animate is attempting to work within the HTML5, CSS3 and javascript specifications. That way when you create an edge animation it should play nicely across all modern browsers. One of the great things about using a plug-in like Flash is that any of that missing code sould be provided by the plug-in and we weren't limited by waiting for the browser to support it.
That said, I keep seeing more and more amaziing things done with javascipt. And there is already some limited filter support svg images (on some browsers) So maybe soft, feathered masks, blurs, glows, and ink effects (add, lighten, multiply) will arrive sooner rather than later. -

I've managed to make a simple animation in edge animate, publish it as an OAM file drop it into InDesign and sucessfully preview it on my ipad using the content viewer. If I come to publish it to the app store in the future using a single edition account will my animation still be supported. I'm confused but it looks like only the enterprise and professional let you add edge animations.
edge is just html, so I don't see why it would be blocked, I have published stuff with HTML and jquery overlays and they have gone through fine (granted they weren't generated with edge). p.s. perhaps i should have added: my main interest is to have the animate project imported to have it load in the adobe viewer for digital publishing. up until now I'd linked the html overlay from the standard Edge app. One of the things that caught my eye under the features for Edge animate was:
Digital Publishing support
Import Edge Animate compositions into the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite with Adobe InDesign CS6, or into Apple iBooks Author.
How I proceed: as per the help/resources:
Publish as Animate Deployment Package (.oam)
Select this export option to create a package file of your project for use in other Adobe tools. The following tools support Animate Deployment Packages: Adobe Digital Publishing Suite (DPS), InDesign CS6, Dreamweaver CS6, and Muse.
Select File > Publish Settings.
In the Publish Settings dialog box, make sure Animate Deployment Package is selected as the publish target.
Note or change the target directory.
(Optional) Specify a poster image.
Click Save to save the publish settings, or click Publish.
but all i get is
Content generation error.
