Indesign changing fonts in pdfs when imported

When I place certain pdfs into my indesign document, it is changing some of the fonts in the pdf that I am importing.  I was under the impression that since it is a pdf, it shouldn't matter if I have the font or not.  Is that wrong? Do I need to download the fonts also? Some of them I'm not even aware what they are since these are ads that are supplied to me print ready.  Working on a Mac, CS2.

I don't need the name. Just describe what's happening. When you Place the pdf, is there a font substitution? Is it still script? Is it italic but stretched out to match the spacing of the original pdf? Does the pdf show the substitution viewed in Acrobat? Is it only happening when you print? Only when you export to pdf?
I don't know if your fonts can affect embedded fonts. I would have guessed not. Just the same, I would make sure I don't have a font named Avalon loaded.

  • Can I change default crop options when importing PDFs?

    When importing PDFs into Photoshop CS3, the default cropping is Bounding Box. I change the popup to Media Box, but it reverts when I quit Photoshop. Is there a way to make Media Box the default?

    I tried it and a Scripted opening of a pdf doesn’t seem to have any bearing on the dialog’s settings.
    If You open with the same settings usually it might be possible to create a Script that opens pdfs with those settings right away – one would have to trade the comparative convenience of dragging the pdf on the psd-symbol and hitting OK for an open-dialog though, I guess.

  • Change fonts in sylpheed when composing? [split]

    Perhaps someone can set me straight on this - I too got tired of the load time required for Thunderbird and tried out Sylpheed. It is really fast, and has a decent feature set. One thing kills it though. When composing emails, there is no support for changing font sizing, color, etc. You get to select one font (and not even a color - seems to default to black) from the main configurations, and that is what is used - you can't highlight, bold, underline, change color etc. Whats worse, that seems to be just a display font. When Sylpheed sends the mail out, it is plain text. Essentially, there is no support for Rich Text for HTML. That is a bit limiting these days.
    Oddly, this makes it worse than something old like Outlook Express from way back in the Win95 days!

    split from "which mail client do you use?".

  • Blurry/ fuzzy fonts in pdf  when export from indesign

    Hello all,
    i have done alot of research/ readings via the internet (& forum) but i still can't find a solution to this:
    - I have saved my pdfs (line drawings, texts, graphics) in illustrator.
    - i 'place' them into Indesign.
    - In indesign, i click 'export', 'adobe pdf (print)', ' high quality print'.
    Result: the texts on the embedded pdfs are fuzzy. I have used 2 fonts- one is fine & editable in the exported pdf (garamond);  only 'arial' seems rasterized & fuzzy.
    What have i tried:
    - i tried exporting as 'pdf X 1a 2001' settings as it is mentioned that it is good for printing.
    - i have tried  clicking 'do not downsample' in all the 'compression categories'.
    -  i have also checked 'find font', to see if the 'arial' is true font. It is.
    What else can i do? kindly advise. Thank you in advance.
    *software:
    adobe cs5
    Best,
    Jessica

    Oh no...
    i see your point now.
    That text is from the usual font folder.
    - i checked in illlustrator: 'type', 'find font', 'arial'; whereelse in Indesign, it is 'arial regular'.
    - In control panels, 'font' folder, i see i only have 1 arial regular file, so both illustrator & indesign should have the same 'arial regular'...
    OK UPDATE: I GOT IT RIGHT NOW:
    - In illustrator file, to create pdf: 'print', 'printer: cutepdfwriter', 'output', 'printer resolution: 100lpo1200dpi' (initially it was 72lpi), and 'graphics', 'fonts: download'- 'none' (initally: subset).
    I don't know which made it work: Pinrter resolution or fonts download.
    But now i could edit the illustrator pdf 'arial' font; and when placed in indesign to export, it is not blurry anymore.
    Never knew something like this can make such a big difference, thank you Bob!
    **but can you let me know what was it i changed that made it worked as well? thanks!
    Jess

  • How can I prevent this formating problem (changing fonts, lines etc) when converting PDF to a word document.

    I have a big problem when I convert my PDF to a word document, it is a mess. Is there a way to prevent this from happening. Font changes, table and lines formatting of lots of things. I am having to spend time editing and finding all the mistake, deleted the purpose of converting if I have to retype everything.

    Hi Donna,
    Are you facing this problem with a specific pdf or with all other pdf files? Which application was originally used to create that pdf file?
    Can you send that pdf file to me at [email protected] so that i can look into this issue for you.

  • Why does a font change in my pdf when I print it to file?

    A client created this magazine in InDesign and exported it to a pdf. I preflighted it and printed it using Adobe PDF for my printer and unchecked the "Rely on system fonts" button. The preflighter did not indicate that any fonts were unembedded, but the subhead on this page changed several characters anyway. The font is Kalinga, which is a freebie font, but shouldn't the preflighter have indicated if there was a problem? Also, the font was used elsewhere in the magazine, but this is the only page that had the error.
    Here's the original file: http://www.needleandclay.com/pix/pdfs/Mountain%20View%20Feb%202015%20Original%2010.pdf
    And here's the file with the error: http://www.needleandclay.com/pix/pdfs/Mountain%20View%20Feb%202015%20Original%2010%20worka round.pdf
    I'm using Acrobat 9 on Windows 7, if that's relevant. I also have Kalinga installed on my computer, but that shouldn't have made a difference. Can anyone help me figure out what happened?

  • "Preview," how to change font size for when you "fill in the blanks" in a pdf file?

    In the pdf reader, "PREVIEW,"
    I specifically want to find out how to change the font size for "fill in the blanks" information. They're usually huge and i just simply want to make them smaller.
    As a complete aside, is there a keyboard shortcut for being on google chrome or safari, then immediately opening the window for "preview." I'm typing notes out on preview while listening to a video lecture on my web browser, usually chrome, and i'd like to switch back and forth.
    Thank you, I'd greatly appreciate any advice.

    HI Velders,
    Can't answer your first question but can offer some information regarding your 'aside.'
    Command-tab will move the focus to the most recent previous application. If repeated, it will step through the pen applications from most to least recent. In your described case, you could use command-tab to toggle between Preview and Safari.
    Command-~ runs you through the open windows in the same application. As with command-tab, the steps are from most to least recent.

    Barry

  • Signing digitally changes fonts in document when saved

    I have just been sent a couple of document to sign - something I have done many times in the past few weeks.
    When I save these documents after signing them - much of the  text in the documents changes to something difficult to read (I suspect it may be courier).
    This seems like a serious error to me as a lot of the point of digital signatures is that you sign and return a document that you can't otherwise have made  changes to.
    Is there anything I can do to stop this happening?
    I'm using Acrobat Reader 10.1.9 on Mac OSX 10.9.2 (Mavericks). The documents were created on a PC.
    I've attached a limited screen shot - although the document is fairly confidential so I can't upload most of it.

    Hi Steve,
    Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, my question was posted so long ago that I no longer have access to the documents. I printed and signed paper copies and deleted them. So the problem has gone away for me. However, I DO think this is a very serious issue.
    I am a bit rusty now but I used to work a lot with Postscript and PDF. In my day, you could only realistically modify the content of a pdf document by appending new content to the file and then appending  a new index. That ensured that, although the visual appearance changed, the underlying electronic document did not and even deleted items were still present - just no longer indexed and hence not displayed. That was a great system as it maintained an audit trail. I  assumed that was how signatures worked which is why I was surprised to see the symptom I sent you.
    I fully understand all you say about font substitution and multi-master fonts but I fail to see why it is relevant. If adding a signature is coded in a “well behaved” manner, adding it could not affect the rest of the document - including embedded or non embedded fonts. If it is not coded in that way, and some sort of active editing of the original content is going on, I am concerned that the legality of signed documents is seriously compromised as, if you can modify one bit of the original to add a signature you can edit any other bit of the document and subtly change it’s meaning WITHOUT AN AUDIT TRAIL. If that is what is happening, I for one would be wary of accepting important documents as signed PDFs instead of paper documents without thoroughly scrutinising the whole thing to see if any subtle changes have been introduced.
    All the best
    Dave

  • Can't Outline Missing Fonts in PDF When 'Illustrator Editing' Feature is On

    I've got an unusual problem with a supplied PDF File that uses fonts I don't have.
    Normally I'd place the PDF into Illustrator and use 'Flatten Transparency' with the 'Convert Fonts To Outlines' option to create vectors for the missing fonts. However this particular PDF file seems to have been saved with the 'Preserve Illustrator Editing' setting, so when I place it into Illustrator the illustrator data is read and I get live artwork - with the fonts replaced - instead of something I can work with, meaning that I can't replicate the type I need.
    I've tried importing the PDF into inDesign and resaving as a new PDF - but Illustrator is not fooled by this clumsy and desparate ruse, and again treats the file as editable artwork with the missing fonts replaced.
    How can I force Illustrator to ignore the editable capabilities of the file and just convert the fonts to outlines?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    K

    Thats quite garbled - but I think I've decoded your spasmodic keyboard mashing:
    evershowed = ever showed?
    fesature  = feature?
    red = read?
    whn = when?
    throough = through?
    questi = question?
    effeciently = efficiently?
    remarksjust = remarks just?
    becaued = because?
    injesting = suggesting? injecting? requesting??
    Now who looks 'lazy'? How old are you? I'm guessing that you are a child or a teenager?
    Wade_Zimmerman said: I'll make certain I do not help you again.
    I'm crushed. Inconsolable. I expect you'll probably have to look that last word up.
    Wade_Zimmerman said: And if you wish tutorials on typing I suggest doing a search on google.
    I know how to type and can spell reasonably well too - what's your excuse for sounding like a rude, idiotic, uneducated child? By the way, 'Google' is a special word - it is what's known as a proper noun - so it gets a big 'g' at the start. Cool eh?

  • Change font in PDF

    Hi,
    I have converted one list output to PDF and sending it through mail.
    I want to increase the Font Size of the PDF file which is generated.
    Let me know whether it can be done. If yes, then how to do that?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I think you can achieve this by changing the layout in print parameter of the FM 'GET_PRINT_PARAMETERS'.
    CALL FUNCTION 'GET_PRINT_PARAMETERS'
        EXPORTING
          line_size      = 132
          line_count     = 65
          layout         = 'X_65_132'
    You can get the list of formats in the table TSP1D where TYPE = 'L' (List).
    we don´t have many options for setting the font type and size in an ABAP list. One option is that you print the output using either SmartForms or AdobeForms, where you can control font type as well as size. This one requires additional work.
    Another option is to use the instruction Print-Control:
    NEW-PAGE PRINT ON.
    PRINT-CONTROL FONT 1 SIZE 1 LPI 6 CPI 10.
    WRITE: /10   'FONT 1 size 1 LPI 6 cpi 10'.
    SKIP.
    PRINT-CONTROL FONT 1 SIZE 5 LPI 6 CPI 5.
    WRITE: /10   'FONT 1 size 5 LPI 6 cpi 5'.
    SKIP.
    PRINT-CONTROL FONT 2 SIZE 5 LPI 6 CPI 10.
    WRITE: /10   'FONT 2 size 5 LPI 6 cpi 10'.
    SKIP.
    NEW-PAGE PRINT OFF.

  • Name of track changes to modified date when importing mp4

    I have two .mp4 files: (both names listed below are the filenames)
    Valentines Day Torin.mp4 with a modified filed date of 02/15/2010
    Phoebe Confirmation Entrance.mp4 with a modified date of 03/18/2010
    When I import the Valentines Day Torin file, the filename stays the same.  The "Name" field is also the filename. This is what I want.
    When I import the Phoebe Confirmation Entrance, the filename stays the same. The "Name" field is changed to "Mar 18, 2010 3:52pm".
    Anyone know why?
    Also, does anyone know how to get iTunes to stop changing the modified date on files when you change any info in the "Get Info" area.
    I find it quite hard to import a lot of home videos into Itunes.  File name length limitations, changing of modified dates, just can't figure this out..
    I have all my videos in order according to the modified date since titles can't be more than 36 characters, but can't figure out an easy way to sort chronologically.
    Thanks,
    Derek

    Check the file withEXIF Viewer or Reveal to see what the EXIF Capture Date is. iPhoto uses that for photos from digital cameras.

  • Upgraded to 10.4.6 now books chang fonts and sizes when imposed

    Hi,
    I upgraded the OS to 10.4.6 aday before yesterday, edited one of my books today, and tried to impose it for printing.
    The InDesign 4.0.2 book imposed okay on InBooklet but came out with some pages in a different font and some of the different font areas highlighted in pink.
    Times 12pt was changed to Garamond 11pt after about20 pages of a 75 page manual.
    This is a big deal for me because I have quite a few years worth of books and what was once a thoughtlessly easy thing to do has turned into a new and unusual problem every week or so. Sometimes it might be Adobe (as in agonizingly slow printing).

    Have you tried downloading the latest MacOSX drivers from the Brother web site? They might have updated the driver for that printer since you got it.

  • Change font to webdings when composing

    Hi there,
    I'm trying to set up an e-mail signature that has the "Think before you print tag line" with the tree that is the letter 'P' in webdings shown in green before it.
    If I'm not being entirely clear, there's an explanation of what I mean in the third bullet point here - http://infinitas-it.co.uk/greenit/tips.php
    The problem I have is that though I can change the font size and colour, as well as changing the 'P' character to other fonts, when I try to change it to webdings, it remains a standard Roman character (of an unknown font).
    Webdings appears to be installed ok - I can make the symbol in other programs fine, but when I copy the symbol over to Mail it always becomes a Roman character.
    Any suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong would be much appreciated.
    (As an aside, I've been able to make it work fine on my old 10.4 Powerbook).
    Many thanks,
    tim

    when I try to change it to webdings, it remains a standard Roman character (of an unknown font).
    The webdings font in 10.6 is Unicode and not the old symbols-mapped-to-Latin variety. To input it you have to use Character Palette (Edit > Special Characters), View = Glyph, Font = Webdings. Plus set the font in Mail to Webdings.
    Whether it will be seen at the other end is not guaranteed.
