InDesign crashes and renders document totally corrupt.
InDesign CS5.5 and CS6 are both crashing when saving document to an Isilon server, rendering the docs corrupt.
Mac OS 10.6.8.
Isilon has said it's a bug concerning Adobe software and the Apple OS.
Crash report states InDesign.Text Editor in line 0 of thread 0.
Has anyone any information on this problem.
Doesn't seem to happen when working on desktop.
Thanks
Post the whole crash report on pastebin.com (NOT here) and give us a link to it.

When I save a CS6 InDesign file as an .idml file InDesign crashes and sends a report to Adobe.
When I restart InDesign the .idml file is in the directory as well as a locked InDesign file.
I cannot open the .idml file, instead I get the message:
Cannot open "" file. Adobe InDesign maynot support the file format,
a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing,
or the file may be open in another location.
I can however open an InDesign .idml file that was saved from InDesign CC software.
InDesign CC software is also unable to open the .idml file that I created in CS6.It seems to be a corrupted IDML file. Does it happen with every file or only with that one.
What is the content of that file? Did you embed images or graphics or did you ink them? Size?
Maybe that this would help you: Re: InDesign 6 is crashing when attempting to open a particular document. All others are opening OK. -
My InDesign crashes and wont reopen even after deleting preferences
My InDesign crashes and then wont reopen. I have already tried deleting preferances, relaunching, but the only thing that's solved it so far is rebooting which is beyond frustrating.
Any ideas?Im having issues adding the error log, here is the first bit of it though.....

Opening InDesign CS and CS3 documents Crash InDesign CS3
Hi Everyone,
When we have a CS3 document open, and we want to open a CS document simultaneously, InDesign completely crashes and will not open again until the computer is restarted. This has happened every time we have attempted this. Is this a bud with CS3??? The only work around is to close the CS3 Document and open the CS document, then re-open the CS3 document. This works, but it is a real pain, and time waster! Does anyone have any suggestions???
thanks~

When you say crashed, do you get any error message? Have you checked Task Manager to see if the application or the InDesign.exe process is still running? There are a fair number of reports that InDesign "disappears" when opening files from Explorer and this might be something similar.

InDesign crashes when scrolling/editing a corrupted page with a broken link.
Just sharing a problem I had and how I solved it (with help from adobe tech support-thanks!).
Indesign CC running on a Mac OSX 10.9.2
PROBLEM:
InDesign crashed when ever I reached a certain page in a large document I was working on. On that page was a link to an illustrator file. Somehow this file must have been corrupted, but there was no chance to edit or delete this link/page as the program crashed instantly when ever I tried to manipulated that specific page.
SOLUTION:
I opened a new, empty document; opened the broken file and moved all pages to the new document: LAYOUT/PAGES/MOVE PAGES; select Move Pages "ALL"; Move to: "Select the new document"; click OK. I went back to the new file with the moved pages saved it and deleted the corrupted link on that page which I could now edit again. Problem solved!
Hope this is helpful for anyone who experience the same problem.Did you share in the program forum? InDesign

InDesign crashing when changing Document Setup
Hi
I have an 75 page InDesign file with some text and placed files
When I make any changes in the Document Setup dialog, (Pg Sz, Facing Pages etc) InDesign crashes with the following message:
I exported to IDML, but that didn't help either
Any suggestions?
I'm running CS6 on Mac OSX Mountain Lion
This only happens to this file - other files are ok
Thanks
DavidI think maybe the style itself is corrupt. The next thing I would try is creat a new file (blank) and in that file define a new style with the exact same name (case sensitive) and then import the style into the other file using Load All Text Styles from the paragraph styles panel menu.
I'm not certain that's going to work though, so be prepared to export the text to InDesign Tagged Text, then make yet another new file. Recreate (or load from that other new file) any styles that are causing a problem, then place the tagged text. You can work from there in the new file, or you can go back to the original, delete the offending style (leaving the text without a style), then copy the newly placed text in the new file and paste it into the original to replace what's there and restore the style assignments. You might want to do all of that on a copy, by the way, just for safety. -
InDesign Crashed and Now Can't Open the File It Crashed On
I had a file open from a G4 server. I left and came back and my computer had gone to sleep losing the connection to the server. InDesign crashed with that file open and now I can't open the file at all I keep getting this error message:
Cannot open the document [document name]. You may not have permission or the document may be open already. For multi-user access, close the file and then lock it using the File > Get Info command in the Finder.
The document is not open, on the server I forced the permissions to be all read and write for everyone, I dumped my InDesign preferences. What else can I do? Has anyone had this problem before? (I am connected to the server now that I'm trying to reopen it.)
When I started InDesign after it crashed, it asked me to recover the file and I tried to but it didn't open anything (I was not connected to the server at that point which may have screwed things up) There are two files in the InDesign Recovery folder one called 'RecoveryData' and one called 'DBTmp239689402256' both of which don't open in indesign. You may want to back up your work on a regular basis. Check out Retrospect or Retrospect Light. Lots of computers come with the light version so you may already have it.

Hi,
I have kind of a weird requirement but I hope you guys can help out.
I need to extract all the custom fields used in an indesign file without referencing the dataMergeProperties of a document. Sorry if this is a weird request it is just what I've been told (our system needs to not crash when people upload a variety of in design documents to generate high resolution jpg preview documents).
I can already get all the text custom fields by looking for "<<" and ">>" in the text frames of a document but I'm having a really hard time finding the image custom fields.
I tried looking at the rectangles for a given page but that didn't seem to help (but maybe i'm missing some there). I also tried looking at the graphics and images collection of a document but this seemed to return only graphics that are hard coded on the in design document and not the custom image fields.
Any help would be appreciated!Uggg....
Found the answer after I realized I was looking at the wrong SDK (5.0 instead of 6.0)
I'm using the doc.hyperlinkPageItemSources property to get these images. It also looks like you can get the image data merge fields from DataMergeImagePlaceholder (but rememeber I couldn't access this). -
Cs4 inDesign crashes and errors on export to swf
I have exported successfully to swf on this file previously. Super it worked so now I added more links here and there. Now when I export I receive "An error occurred while flattening" on one of 3 pages (it seems to pick one at random). I've edited those images and attempt to reexport. Sometimes it crashes, sometimes the above error on page 35-36 or 41-42 of a 76 page doc. I must be doing something wrong. I at first thought I corrupted the file and recreated it 3 different ways...export to xml and rebuild, export to inDesign markup ...rebuild, tried manual rebuild with the print file... same errors/crashing. Any ideas what I might try?
I exported same file now as pdf (this file went to print so I know it was not corrupt)
and NOW (random_error_message_whileExporting_567) Error is "Error encountered while reading JPEG image. Image may be damaged or incompatible. Resave the image with different settings and try again."
any way to determine what image causes the error? its making my head dizzy! -
PP CC and OS 10.9.3 work around for crashing and rendering
A very nice guy named Anand at customer service walked me through it. I have had 35 crashes today and that has been building for days, it really got on my nerves. Deadlines and client pressure but Anand stuck with me.
First take care of Disk permissions
Second boot up secure then Go>Go to ~/Library/Caches and delete all files. Do not secure delete trash, some files are needed and you will just say continue.
Then and this is the big one know one else has told me is go to File in Premier Pro then Project Settings then General and change Rendering to Software Only. I have a 12 Core new Mac Pro since Jan and have been running CPU Acceleration (Open CL) since then but I guess the new OS 10.9.3 will not work with that.
So I have to say a big I AM SORRY TO ADOBE!! since it was not them but Apple and the firmware for the graphics card.
Well at least now I am back working and making money.
Thank you Anand you deserve a raiseFrustrating is not the word but I would get kicked off here if I used the right words. How about Adobe gives us back all the money that we pay in while this is happening. I have lost $1,000's of dollars and one client. And are we getting answers. Big corporate is not really caring about the small guy.
I have to not use warp stabilizer because you can't, I can not have dissolves or any transitions overlap which makes a lot of my editing not possible, and that is why I lost a client.
10-15-20 hard crashes a day and another 10-15 where I have to force quit. The hard crashes I have to stop the Mac Pro, go in restart, then trash preferences, then clear cache. Now do that 100 times a week and see how frustrating you get.
Come on Adobe, talk to us and please fix the problem. I had a video editor from a major university ask if they should go PP CC and I said, NO, stick with FCP. -
Seriously, who would want a service that does this to you?? I have hours of work into this file. I contacted a customer service person, and they told me to call back tomorrow??!! So, don;t worry, you file is safe with us.. not.

Snow Leopard CS2 - InDesign crashes on print
Hello!
I am hoping some one can send me in the right direction in figuring this out. I have googled this problem until my fingers are sore and have yet to see anyone with this issue. I have gone through the many many documents about not being able to export to pdf and have followed all of those directions hoping that maybe there was some correlation - still nothing.
So what's happening is we open a standard document create either text or regular box then click file print and get the crash (Problem report from InDesign below)
we can print repeatedly with only a box on the page. sometimes it will allow us to view the print preset dialogue and some times it will almost allow us to create a new print preset.
it gets REALLY buggy when you click the text tool - some times as soon as you click the tool it crashes and sometimes when you click the page. The below Problem report from InDesign was from printing with text on the page.
This is a fresh install and software update to 10.6.5, fresh install of CS2 and I have not added any fonts, this also happened before the OS upgrade. Photoshop and Illustrator seem to work and do not even stutter when printing, This is only happening in InDesign. After trying to read through the badly labeled post on here I saw one almost similar post about a printing error and there was no help offered.
I have read many times that CS2 should not run with snow leopard and have seen just as many post that CS2 does run with snow leopard. If by chance you can please offer ANY advice or support it would be greatly appreciated! We are a fairly small publishing company and this software is our only option.
Thank you in advance!!!

FireWire Device: built-in_hub, Up to 800 Mb/secI can work in CS2 Indesign on my iMac running 10.6.5 with no clichés (so far), but like this thread, InDesign crashes and shuts down when attempting to print.
However, I have no problem making any type of pdf from InDesign, and my PDF's print without any problems. So, for now, I work in InDesign, and when I need to print, I make a PDF of my document and then print it. I know it's a pain, but for now, it's all I can do to keep using CS2.
I realize the solution is updating to a CS package that will run flawlessly with 10.6. (anyone have a few hundred dollars to give to this worthy cause?).
But if anyone out there figures out a way to print from Indesign CS 2 on 10.6, please let me know. My actual needs are minimal, so CS2 does all I really need it to do for now . . . if you don't count that I can't print from it. Ha ha . . . not funny.
This is an update on my progress to resolve my problem (it's now two hours later than the text in this post above). I had a copy of InDesign CS 3 that I never installed. I decided to give it a try so I installed it. It installed with no problems and I updated it using the InDesigns update feature.
I can now print with no problems using the print dialog box from within InDesign. However, my specific print features from my brother printer dialog box won't function. All said, I rarely use those features so it seems I now have a copy of InDesign (CS 3) on OS 10.6.5 printing adequately, provided I only use the print dialog box from within InDesign CS3, which suites me fine.
Good luck everyone. -
Indesign Crashes when exporting PDF
Hi,
We are experiencing an issue when exporting an .indd file as .pdf. The process gets as far as a certain page (8 out of 13) and then crashes when reading a pdf image from that page. It does one of two things - it crashes or displays an 'out of memory' message. We had task manager running alongside the program to check memory usage and there are no major spikes during the export process (it doesn't even hit 80%)
- We can export every other page in the document except this one
- The export works without marks & bleeds enabled (not really sure of the terminology so I do apologise)
The document is going off to print so the pdf image has to be of high resolution. Does anyone have any ideas as to how we can get around this issue?
The INdesign package is CS4 (32bit) and the pc has 4GB of RAM
Any assistance would be much appreciatedFriends I'm reading all the posts, but I have the same problem. My Indesign crashes exporting a document of 60 pages into pdf.
Can anybody help me please? The next week I have to deliver the project. Thank you!

Indesign Crash consistently while resizing frame
Hi,
I'm helping a company which publish a review every month with InDesign. The entire document is divided into three columns. Only some titles cover the 3 columns. That seems to be these titles which makes Indesign crashing. As soon as I resize a frame just above this kind of title Indesign crash instantly. I thought about paragraph style, links, layers, but all my tests has been uneffective, impossible to find the reason why Indesign crash. Does someone have an idea to help dealing with it ?
I'm sorry for this incorrect English and hope some will understand my issue.
BlaiseThanks IIIasss, yes, I did some research over the web to find some similar questions. I found lot of people having problems with Indesign, crashes and other issues but no one has the same problem as mine. Sometimes they report a crash when app starts, but I have never found the same problem as mine.
